If the rumours about the club having tabled a bid for Wilfried Singo are true, then it's not a bad move at all. He's tall (190cms), fast enough, can dribble, can play with the ball, and get around people. I don't see him as a backup for TAA at all. Klopp has a "thing" for such players. A winger / wingback, who can backup the right back position. Take over from Shaqiri (Klopp loves offensive players who can defend) . And even backup the right sided CB position (if they can coach him into it) . And it doesn't yet spell the end for Neco Williams, either. More and more we are seeing why a full multi skilled squad of 25 is needed to face all the possibilities. A squad of 15 "favorites" just doesn't cut it anymore.

Wilfried Singo (RWB/RM) Available for €30M which was about three times what Crystal Palace were looking to pay. Another who would be off to AFCON as well.}

Question for Ed002. Are the club still trying to sign Ugurcan Cakir? I know you mentioned we were interested 12-18 months ago but we ended up signing Adrian on a free.

Seems a bit of an odd story now as we have a good young keeper in Kelleher to serve as understudy for Alisson, but I hope you can clear up whether the interest we hold is current or recycled news.

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Ugurcan Cakir (G) Leicester have shown an interest as a Kasper Schmeichel replacement. At the start of January West Brom asked after Cakir making a permanent move but was not given the assurance of a starting place and they took Lonergan on loan instead. Brighton have recently enquired after Cakir but it is unclear if he would be first choice. Mr Mourinho is a fan and Spurs are keen on the player as Hugo Lloris is getting no younger but they have a preferred option. Prior interest of Sheffield United, Bordeaux, Schalke, Monaco, Genoa, Reims (who opted for the well thought of Predrag Rajkovic instead) has gone or can be discounted. His agent has linked the player with several other sides who are not looking for a first choice option. I am not aware of any approach by Liverpool but he would be a very good replacement for Adrian - but would he want to be second choice?}

29 Mar 2021 17:00:50
Thanks for that Ed002, appreciate it.

I agree, it would seem odd both for him to come to us to be second choice (I don't believe the club nor the fans want Alisson replaced), and for us as well - why would we spend money (however much it may be) to replace Kelleher?

Do the club still hold Kelleher in high regard? Or are either they or the player looking to part company (whether permanently or on loan)?

{Ed002's Note - Caoimhin Kelleher is one of only two club developed players in the senior squad, which is why Liverpool has a smaller Champions League squad than other sides. My expectation is that Kelleher will step up to replace Adrian and a decision needs to be made over Grabara.}

Cakir is an amazing keeper.

29 Mar 2021 18:22:14
Thanks Ed002, I hope for the same.

KB, he may be a good keeper, but from all accounts, he is not better than Alisson, nor that much younger, so it would be an odd move by the club, imo.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The club are not looking to replacing Alisson but he would make a great replacement for Adrian - but he would be second choice.}

I think Kelleher is perfectly decent as back up, proved every time he played that he was up to the job. Not sure that spending that sort of money on Cakir is sensible for us nor good for his career.

ed002 I don't see why we should buy a new goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has done very well this season HG and would cost us nothing and am sure if we did sign Ugurcan Cakir he would be on a lot higher wages. Is there any chance that Kamil Grabara could come back as well and fight it out with Kelleher for back up role and would he be classed as club developed or just HG.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He is certainly Home Grown but there was a discussion about him just missing out on being club developed. The expectation certainly was that he would return and I agree that Kelleher should be given that opportunity.}

30 Mar 2021 11:31:43
Ed002, I’ve been really impressed by Kelleher this season, stepped up in tough circumstances and showed he’s really come on leaps and bounds.

{Ed002's Note - I agree he has done very well.}

31 Mar 2021 13:08:37
i guess the question is will he be happy being second fiddle? i guess he will get the cup games and is cover for Aly but at that age he might want to be playing 40 games a season.

Kelleher is fine as No 2 for me and we have a bunch of very young promising keepers. As an (much suffering) Ireland fan I was gutted that Caoimhín missed out on this batch of internationals. With finances the way they are I could only see us going for a cheap Adrian replacement.

Ed's has there now been any contact or development for Ibrahima Konate as people are suggesting?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained repeatedly about the interest in Ibrahima Konate.}

According to the Athletic Liverpool are in the process of finalizing a deal for Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

Absolute beast of a CB. Just hope his recent injuries are due to growth or bad luck.

Seems to be all over social media and news outlets, could be BS but there looks a lot of places running the story.
Fair play to this site and the Ed’s they said Konate when all the rumours where of Upamecano and other players and I think Ed2 is a big fan and said he was the one he wanted us to sign?
On a side note the fee is susposidly 33m just over the threshold of the 32.5m bet!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no that was me who wanted us to sign him, a couple of years back now before his injury problems. He was a very good right-back then too.}

Thunderbird it’s starting to spread now all over the internet mate.
BREAKING: Liverpool working to finalise deal for Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig. Not done but significant progress made + LFC pursuit of 21yo French centre-back now advanced. Likely his ~€40m release clause will need paying.

Ornstein has reported it and he’s normally very reliable. Not sure adding a defender with such bad injury issues is the most sensible thing in the world, but no argument about his ability when fit.

Interesting signing. Definitely has all the Jurgen Klopp key characteristics of a centre back. Hopefully his injuries will curtail. I wonder what we will do with the other options if this gets completed. Davies, Kabak, Matip, Gomez. I assume Matip will be moved on and maybe Liverpool won’t take up the option of Kabak?

His injury record is similar to VVD's prior to when he joined us.

He's had one big injury with torn muscle fibers that's kept him out for an extensive period (almost a whole season) and since that an Ankle injury which he has recovered from.

Provided he's over his long term muscle issue I think he could be a shrewd signing.

Ed I hope we keep matip too then!

Why have you listed Gomez as one of your ‘moved on’ players Champs?
If there’s one CB that doesn’t fit the Klopp profile it’s Nat Philipps?

29 Mar 2021 10:24:05
So could be VVD and Konate as starters.
Gomez, Phillips and Davies as the back ups.
Probably Losing Matip, sending Kabak back and sending some of the kids on loan?
Looks good to me on paper at least.
But I suppose the back ups depend on if a club can be found for Matip, if Phillips wants to leave to get game time and if Davies wants to stay or not, or if we even want to keep him. Then we have the option of keeping Kabak as well in that case.
In any case I would want us to be slightly overstocked at CB for next season, VVD and Gomez have been hit by serious injury and will take a while to get up to speed, plus Konate has had his fair share, so would make sense to have an extra back up in my eyes.

I don’t know much about him but I know he’s rated!
Then I read he’s missed over 40 games in 11 months he moves Matip and Keita out of the spot light at that going!
Is he over the injuries does anyone know?

Agree6 Disagree0

29 Mar 2021 10:50:09
He had torn muscle fibres which kept him out for a season pretty much, listed as 3 separate injuries because it was recurring (think he was rushed back) .

Since then no muscle issues but recently was out with an ankle injury, 9 games missed, but has since recovered.

29 Mar 2021 11:10:58
We won't touch him with a barge pole.

Those injuries will keep him at RB for a few years until he can prove he's overcome them. They are redicously substantial and in areas that will reoccur.

90-150 days each time.

He is quality but I just don't believe for one second we will take a risk. Not unless it was a really cut price deal. If, however, we have 40 million available for a cb then i think we will go elsewhere. Just to caveat that 'cut price deal' it might be a Jota style one, 40 million but over many years. Then I could see it happening.

We are always quick to call players injury prone but when you look at it he has one serious injury. If he is available for the money mooted he could be a great buy.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Mar 2021 13:05:53
Hey the Juicer, I wasn’t suggesting we move him on, I think more likely that matip, Philips, Davies or Kabak will be moved on. It may reduce playing time for Gomez unless Klopp goes against his usual formation and changes to 3 at the back (highly unlikely IMO)

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Mar 2021 13:11:13
phillips, matip and davies to move on.
leaving us with virgil, gomez, kabak, konate.

does any one think with 4 decent CB's we could move to 3 at the back?

Konate and Jules Kounde are the French U21 centre backs. What brilliant players to have at that level.

Jordz. What do you mean one injury?

Like same injury over and over. Or a prolonged one that he hasn't gotten over yet? Because if you mean the latter then you are wrong.

The guy has has some really long and serious injuries. Yes he is growing, fast and young. It might well straighten itself out but you can't pay 40 million for the risk. I would rather pay 70 million in 3 years knowing he has been injury free for that time.
