Eds,

Anything in Strakosha of Lazio? Seen it on the echo website that LFC are in for him.

Cheers.

His agent is pushing for a move to LFC, but he wants to stay at Lazio.

Ed’s, have we shown any interest in Alderweireld? I think with the addition a player of his ability the title would be a real possibility.

{Ed001's Note - no.}

United bound apparently. unfortunately we missed our chance before Tottenham swooped.

Hasn't he hardly played for Spurs this season though? must be a reason for that.

{Ed025's Note - injured for a lot of it johnny mate..

29 May 2018 18:56:34
The reported 60m seems expensive for a 29 year old who has a dodgy injury record and only has 12 months on his contract.

Fabinho was united bound last summer 😂😂
Just saying.

Thanks Ed025 - still not convinced given the age/ cost, I'll let United waste their money on him ;-)

I reckon he's up there with vvd as the best in premiership and would love him to partner virgil. I can't see spurs selling for anything less than 75m. The same fee as vvd.

Agree7 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - he doesn't have long left on his contract, hence the sale. I doubt they will get that much for a player who is 29 and is going into the final year of his contract.}

Long time reader first time poster. Thank you Ed's (esp. 02) for all of your realistic responses, better to have these than wildly optimistic comments people want!

The rumour: Fekhir is done, not sire if Lyon prefer the announcement is made after the WC or not but it may be the case.

Source: Make of this what you will, my mate has a contact who sent him a badly taken photo. The comment received was that a deal has been done with Lyon for Fekhir. The photo was of someone who looked like Fekhir in a Liverpool shirt, with a green screen behind him. A typical photoshoot setup.

The Guardian reporting Liverpool are in advance talks to sign Fekir. Doubt this has any truth in it at the moment due to the Lyon president's and also the player comments. Guessing that this is just the newspaper trying to get some readers.

Why do you doubt it? Fabinho signed without his own mum, dad and wife knowing so do we expect to be tipped off about everything before it happens? Yes, if you want to alert the world to what you are doing. I reliable paper who has close to zero history of fake/ Twitter/ sensational stories posts and we dismiss it.

Hearing we have bid 60 mill for alisson think karius is going to be leaving the club after saturday still prefer him over mings and would like to see him stay and fight but think there is more to it than just the errors any one else heared these or is it simply click bait my mates reading?

Believable17 Unbelievable3

29 May 2018 11:19:17
If Karius gets sold I will be sick for the boy. What happened to YNWA? Klopp is loyal and won't sell him. All the papers are saying that we're going for Alisson but the eds are saying it's very very unlikely to happen so we will have to wait and see how've that turns out.

Agree17 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - when was the last time we signed a player I was desperate for us to sign? Sadly.}

I remember an Ed said that Fabinho was a fav of him, last summer.

29 May 2018 11:49:59
I know what you mean Ed1 mate it's the same with me, every time I get excited about a player it never comes off. So now I just pay no attention to what is said until it's done, unless of course one of you Eds were to say a deal is close with X player, then it's time to get a chufty.

If we get one of Fekir or Alisson then I'm happy, if we get both I'll be gobsmacked. Personal choice it'd be Alisson before Fekir for me.

29 May 2018 12:04:03
Keepers make mistakes and lose there positions unfortunately, and sadly for karius he dropped 2 big clangers in the biggest game of his life (and his teammates) .

He has to go.

Agree19 Disagree21

29 May 2018 12:30:00
The problem is as a keeper its virtually impossible to regain the fans after such an event. Strikers can bang a hattrick in the first game after missing a game changing "sitter" or a midfielder can play out of his skin and take a vital game by the scruff of its neck in a cup game and the fans are all of a sudden back on side. a keeper would have to keep half a seasons worth of clean sheets and saved a penalty every game to get the fans back . hardest position in the world, I feel for him. but equally think he has to renounce his No.1 shirt to a new keeper, if he's got anything about him hell stay and fight/ learn with whoever comes in.

Agree16 Disagree2

29 May 2018 12:37:25
Personally I still think Karius has potential, I'd bring in a new #1 and try to persuade him to stay as #2. He's very young and a year or two with us to build him back up could be good for both parties.

Either way, he's been pretty solid all year bar the final, and helped get us where we are.

Agree16 Disagree3

29 May 2018 12:44:22
Maybe the solution for Karius is to go on loan to a Bundisliga club. That way he can get game time to build up his confidence in his home country and avoid the inevitable barrage of abuse from opposing fans over here.

Agree13 Disagree1

29 May 2018 12:45:15
Perhaps this will be your lucky window ed and Fekir and Alisson will sign. I think you're overdue one of those windows tbh.

Although we got Firmino a couple of years back so that may well have been your lucky window;)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - fair point, that was probably all my luck used up. Though I had thought all my bad luck was used up when I got unlucky enough to meet Ed0333, judging by the weekend I still seem to have plenty left to spare.}

29 May 2018 12:53:21
I don't believe karius has to go at all. I am more than happy to see him as our keeper next season. He has been pretty good since he took the top spot from mingolet. I absolutely don't think we need to discard him after one bad game. All keeper's have bad game's at some point. I think our support is warranted for another season at least.

Agree14 Disagree10

29 May 2018 13:21:48
The thing with Karius is he looks like and is a mistake waiting to happen. If you look at him from his Mainz days, you can see there is a fundamental flaw. Diving on a ball he can just pick up, punching when he should be catching, trying to come for a ball that he should never attempt to come for.
I watched a few of his performances back then and I was really worried when Klopp signed him. However trusted that I might have got it wrong. Every other top team in England has a steady eddy keeper, the worst is cech. We need an upgrade.

Agree10 Disagree3

29 May 2018 13:24:14
Sometimes we have to take our rose tinted glasses off. although karius has done better since coming back there has still been a lot of near misses from him that he's been lucky to get away with.

All the top teams have "world class" keepers and karius is not at that level.

Agree7 Disagree1

29 May 2018 13:37:46
Brisbane I feel for Karius I really do. The goalkeeper is the most important position for me. If there is any chance of getting Alisson we've got to go for it. I wouldn't bin Karius but he'd definitely be relegated to No.2 . Both mistakes on Saturday we're unacceptable for me 1. He's got to look for the easiest ball to play and in my view that was Robertson he chose to play a riskier option. 2. No top level keeper should be beaten from that distance. 3.He made at least 1 error in both legs against Roma . These are the 3 biggest matches he'd played in his life and he showed, for me in my opinion that he's not got the concentration to be a world class keeper. I don't blame him for losing by the way all my vitriol is saved up for Ramos.

Agree6 Disagree0

29 May 2018 13:44:27
Based on what I have read and seen of Klopp in the last 2.5 years, I would tend towards him backing and keeping Karius. Klopp simply does not seem to be the knee-jerk reaction type of guy (the Caulker loan, aside) . However, he's not a one-man show when it comes to decisions. There are people above him and below him that will have an opinion that he may or may not listen to. If Karius does leave, then I think it will be more his own decision than anything else. It's been a few days now. And still very little show of support from his team mates, from the moment the game ended until now. Far more support from non-LFC sources. Why stick around in such an environment?

Agree2 Disagree0

29 May 2018 14:08:54
I think sometimes you need to be ruthless in terms of decision making. Whilst I feel bad for Karius, this isn't the first error he has made and we need to be able to rely on our keeper going forward.

He was lucky that the Kolarov shot never went in against Roma and has made a few errors in the league, I think we were relieved that we got rid of Mignolet after 4 years, but is Karius much of an upgrade? Unfortunately not.

We need to go all out for Alisson.

Agree6 Disagree0

29 May 2018 14:27:26
Eds I have absolutely no clue really how to judge a keeper other than i notice when they're doing stuff badly. Everyone, including yourselves, seems to rave about allison being almost up there with david de gea though so i was wondering what makes hime so good? i've only seen a couple of youtube clips and one thing i noticed was that he seems to palm quite a lot of shots into the middle of the area?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - positioning, agility, speed of coming off his line, dealing with crosses etc. All keepers palm the ball back out these days for some reason.}

29 May 2018 14:29:16
Honestly I really like Karius, he has the worst luck as that will probably be the worst match he ever plays and happens to be a CL final.

Think he has potential though and i thought he was good in the prem, It hurt yes but we move on and YNWA.

If he leaves I hope its down to his own personal decision and not the club kicking him out that would be horrible.

If he stays ill be happy and has my full support, would love for him to prove all the people talking sh*t about him wrong. If he leaves i still hope he has a good career and proves people that he can be a top class Goalie!

29 May 2018 14:50:19
Fans talk like this was a one off with Karius. He's had about a dozen games like this. He was out the team for a year because he kept making blunders. It wouldn't be a knee-jerk reaction just the final straw. He's had half a good season but made more mistakes than I would like. Yes he's young but I don't see a GK that will save you games when I see Karius. It has to effect the defence too when they're unsure which Karius is behind them.

Agree4 Disagree3

29 May 2018 15:01:43
Another quick point on the importance of the goalkeeper. Our last 2 European Cup triumphs were won by our keepers Dudek's double save and Grobellar's antics on the goal-line during the shootout. Both men showed bottle composure and concentration huge attributes for a keeper at the time it was needed most.

Agree5 Disagree0

29 May 2018 15:19:00
Get Allison keep Karius and Ward Migs and Bogdan to go.

Agree5 Disagree0

29 May 2018 15:35:58
And dudek was terrible 😁 but yeah I think if we are to go for a keeper a loan move would probably be the best shout for Karius. He will be massively under the spotlight with us if and until he has established himself as a consistent top quality international keeper. He is very young and does have potential but at the same time does not seem ready mentality as much as anything. His reaction to this is massive. It will either break him or make him. Learn from his mistakes.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2018 15:37:55
We need to strengthen the squad elsewhere, our game plan should not change because of one player goes off like Salah. Instead of working out the 70m on Allison, I would prefer we go sign some players to add some depth. Karius made some amazing saves along with two amazing errors. He is 24, Allison is 25 and will be turning 26 this year. Let Karius have one more year and see how he develops. Mistakes are good learning opportunities let's see how Karius progresses.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2018 15:39:04
In reply to OP. No bid for him has been made.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2018 15:53:56
After Karius came back in our defence improved but that has to be weighed up by the VVD effect. Yes I think Karius is better than Migs, but he’s error prone and when your fighting for trophies and titles you need a keeper that can win you points/ games not cost you them. How many points has De Gea won for Utd.
I’d like us to sign a keeper who gives me confidence rather than give me a heart attack every time he comes for a cross or something. Yes they will cost a lot of money, but money well spent IMO. Karius or Ward as #2.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 May 2018 16:26:52
because of the swerve and movement of the new ball most keepers are now taught if you can't get your body behind it then parry. karius would have parried that shot had his confidence knocked. you could see him in two minds. im not sure what achterburg is upto but he was awful at tranmere.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2018 17:00:49
I don't slate players but for me Karuis should go. Not because of one terrible performance but for me i have never seen evidence he is good enough. That would be fine but with exception of the final he doesn't seem to care enough about the mistakes he makes. YNWA is great but shouldn't be a hindrance.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 May 2018 20:57:55
Lerchy, whilst I’m personally of the opinion that no keeper has significantly improved under Achterberg’s watch (unlike De Gea wih United for example) and that keeper coaching role should be under the spotlight, the performance of a coach in their playing days is insignificant surely? - Look at Klopp, average/ poor player by his own account and now arguably the best coach in the world. I know Klopp seems to like and trust Big John but his coaching credentials have to be re-evaluated sooner or later surely?

What happened to this GK director (? ) we brought in Eds, I know it was said that Big John was still running the show, but does this new guy actually have much input in the first team keepers? Cheers.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2018 23:07:51
while I wouldn't want any other manager at Liverpool right now, as we are on an amazing journey,
Klopp needs a 2nd man with him who is not a yes man,
the way Klopp messes up with his subs is very poor most of the time,
maybe he is still learning, but we could have won at least another 4 or 5 games, had he made the right subs, the Chelsea game springs to mind,
but, like I said, its Klopp who is the man taking us on this amazing journey,
may it continue .

Agree0 Disagree0

30 May 2018 17:03:14
I don't think anyone is surprised it happened just surprised it manifested itself in the CL final.

What we need costs mega a good keeper has 15-18 clean sheets a season Karius had 10, our GF with Mo and Co covered a big problem Liverpool shouldn't need to score over 2 goals every game which was the case in far to many games last season.

An investment of £75-£80 for a keeper is a big hunk of change or is it, we are Liverpool on the lookout for a keeper so you're getting your pants taken down, it is what it is, add in the age of the keeper and the reluctance of his club to sell, our competitors would / will pay it if needed.

If it works out that the backbone and stability of our defence which gets VVD Robbo TAA and Dejan all singing from the same hymn sheet costs Liverpool £15/ 17 million a year virtually guaranteeing CL football every season the investment of £80 million in a first class keeper shouldn't be a problem it's a necessity.

Hi Eds,

Any update on Grujic or Allan? As only one can be LFC player due to special talent quota that LFC used.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I expect both to move on.}

29 May 2018 11:20:34
Ed1, do you see us actively trying to sell one of our other midfielders? (I'm guessing it wouldn't be Ox) Maybe one of Milner, Hendo, Lallana or Gini? Only I see it getting quite crowded with the arrival of Keita, Fabinho, a potential no. 10 and Chirivella returning.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Lallana is looking for a move.}

29 May 2018 12:42:37
Anyone interested in Lallana? Maybe a return to Southampton?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - dunno mate, Spurs were interested but his season out has left it difficult to know who would be interested now. It is not like they will have had him scouted when he is not playing. I am not convinced Saints fans would welcome him back.}

29 May 2018 12:54:35
Any reason why he wants to leave? We can't be blamed for his injuries last year and he was important the year before? Or do you think Klopp has told him he can go?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he is getting on, he is no longer a key player and he wants to be a key figure. Returning down south is also something he would like to do. I would not be surprised if money was a factor as well, a nice payday move after years in lower leagues with the Saints will settle his future.}

29 May 2018 13:04:12
Eds would Wolves or Fulham be interested? Would be sad to see him go, thought he would be a key player this year after the friendlies, sadly the injuries have pushed him out.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I doubt either side would be interested. He is not a Mendes client, so Wolves are out and his wages are too high for Fulham.}

29 May 2018 14:07:04
Thanks for the in depth reply Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - welcome.}

29 May 2018 16:51:16
Ed001, I see Lallana going in January, when Oxlade-Chamberlain is fit and match ready. Could we really see Fabinho, Keita, Fekir, Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum as our squad depth in midfield next season? Could Alexander-Arnold be moved into midfield and a right back be bought?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - Fabinho can also play right back. With Gomez there too, do we really need another right back?}

29 May 2018 18:08:00
Ed001 you said a right full was priority?

And Gomez isn't a great right full think personally he needs to move center half or move on for himself.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - you aren't the person responsible for picking the squad or team, so your thinking is irrelevant. Someone to cover right full back was a priority and one was signed. What exactly is the point you are trying to make?}

29 May 2018 20:03:34
I wonder if West Ham would be interested in Lallana. That would give him his move back down south and West Ham would be improving their team.

Fabinho Joins.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

29 May 2018 06:19:17
Very very pleased, not because I’ve seen much of him, but because we finally have a proper alternative to Hendo at no.6 at last. I think this gives us a huge amount of flexibility to control games we might have struggled in in the past.

As a bonus he can also cover effectively for Trent.

If we can get in Fekir now to cover wide attacking positions (and AM), and can bring in a top GK I think we are 95% of the way there.

I think this is a big big statement that Klopp is positioning to be more tactically flexible, and learning that closing out scrappy games in the Pl is a critical part of winning the title.

Excited already for the new season.

Agree19 Disagree1

29 May 2018 08:53:36
Yep I'm thrilled about this one as well. Not just a replacement for but an upgrade on Emre. Along with Keita and Fekir (or whoever) this will add great depth and flexibility to or midfield. The English lads and Gini will have a job just to get into the team now. He's young, versatile, hard-working, scores goals, not going to the World Cup and of course he knows Bobby from Brazil and who could think of a better guy to help you get settled into life on Merseyside? Great signing and a lovely surprise to wake up to this morning. I really think he'll help us make that step up to the next level.
