Good afternoon to you Eds, I hope you're all feeling good.

A quick and probably fruitless question: are there any circumstances at all whereby Kolo Toure receives a new contract from the club? Due to Sakho's lack of form and Skrtel and Lovren's bizarrely lengthy injury lay-offs, he's been our best defender this season.

Is there room for him still, maybe as a backroom candidate? It'll just be sad to see such a popular, charismatic warrior ride off into the sunset.

Cheers,
TSP.

{Ed002's Note - No, even with the manager is scraping the bottom of the barrel to bring in Caulker on loan until the summer Liverpool have already added Ilori and Matip and remain overrun at centre back as they are everywhere else. And there is Wisdom to return.

I have no idea why a player who came toward the end of his career to provide cover with no coaching experience would be a "backroom candidate" let alone "charismatic warrior". If Liverpool want to do well they need to get people in who can do the right job not just a rest home for retired player.}

Cheers Ed. Not much cash on the way in. Wage bill will go down. Will be very interesting to see how Klopp does in the summer. A perfect summer would be three or four new faces that most people have never heard of who turn out to be superb. A healthy return from injury for Gomez and Ings. And more progress from the likes of Can and Origi who are both still kids but could have big futures ahead of them. Have a good one.

{Ed002's Note - I did not say anything of the sort about money.}

Joker, with Ings and Gomez coming back from injury. Grujic and Matip already coming in for the summer and some loaned players expected to stay. Markovic and maybe a youngster or two.
May I ask what positions you think should be replaced with incoming players?

Goalkeeper.

Totally agree Ron. Where else would you like to see improvements bud?

Right winger, another experienced CB, and a striker to replace Benteke.

02 Mar 2016 19:28:37
Gazza the rest for me really depends on who goes. If we offload ballotelli and benteke I could see the argument for a striker. Bar that squad wise we are set obviously any player such as coutinho Moreno sturridge to name a few if they move on they will need to be replaced unfortunately Moreno is the most likely I was a big fan of his coming in but hasn't developed anywhere near enough defensively to be considered a long term option. Only thing that might happen bar that is a wide forward we already know we went for teixera at an exorbitant figure so I believe if klopp sees a "star" player he wants for that role I think the club will make it happen personally. However the first few weeks of the window will be key cutting that wage bill asap to allow planning for incomings.

Gazza : Goalkeeper. Defensive midfielder. Right Back. AM. - to replace/ cover Migs, Clyne, Henderson, Milner, Allen, Markovic - who will be sold, imho.

What we need for summer is a goalkeeper a experienced/ good CB and a right winger. But we need to sell a lot of other players to make way for them. firstly Bogdan and minolet has to go.
If we can get rid of Skrtel, Sakho (if we can recuperate around 17 mil) and the obvious toure. That's leaves us with lovren, matip, new cb and then the " messiah" and Gomez.
In the midfield Allen and milner should leave. in this way we have Can, hendo, lucas, gujic, steward for two position.
Attacking Mid- all we need is coutinho and firminio and should sell Lallana.
wingers- markovic, ibe, and praet is enough with kids like ojo and canos.
forward - origin, ings, and anew forward if we can sell striddge and benteke.
we don't need to have 4 stikers for 1 postion. the 3 we have (including firminio) and may be someone like Lacazette would be more than sufficient.

GK to Replace Bogdan, not sure where that leaves WARD, as i don't see Migs leaving. after 5 year contract.

RB : We have Clyne and Flanno and Randall, we don't need a lot.
LB : Enrique to leave, Moreno should be sold or moved to a winger role. Gomez as understudy, we need some one here

CB: Toure to Leave, One of Skertel/ Sakho/ Lovren to be moved and one of Ilori/ Wisdom to leave. (loan/ Sell not sure)
Even then We will have 4 CB with Matip, 2 Other Senior Pros and one of Wisdome/ Illori .
If we can get a Class First team centre back i see another one of trio to leave. Or we may see Lucas as our 4th CB.

DF : Need one here, Lucas is only 1 good enough for the role and even he may be moved to CB.

Mid : Hendo/ Can / Milner 3 will do, Allen to be sold.

WF : Ibe is only one we have now. Get marko back and sign another one.

AM : Lallana to be sold, Tex moving on, Couts and Frimino are more then enough.

Striker: Stru/ Origi / Ings are more then enough for 1 Striker role we have.
Sell Benteke, Sinclair, Balo to leave.

So IN for me
A GK as competition t Migs
A CB if more then 3 leave
A LB who can defend
A WF who can score goals.

Outs:
Bogdan, Enrique, Toure, Moreno, 2/ 3 other CBs, Allen, l. Alberto, Tex, Lallana, Benteke, Balo, Sinclair.

What a goal. What about Brad Smith as left back?
Can as our holding midfielder, defensive mid?
I agree that a new keeper is a must and I don't see it for another striker either. Origi is shaping up okay, with Ings to return and Firmino being able to play there we are well equipped
I think Skrtel and Sakho will go. Matip, Lovren and Illori with maybe Lucas playing some games there if another centre back can't be sourced with a decent price tag.

Buy Pogba for Midfield. Play Flanagan in Midfield.
Ibrahimovic up front. Sell Henderson to Paris or Juve.
Make Emre Can the captain.

Adoma - I was treating your comments as serious until I read you want to buy Ibra. Why on earth would we would we pay a fortune for a guy who is on astronomical wages and nearing the end of his career. Plus he would come with considerable baggage - if Klopp can get him to press even half seriously then he is an even better manager than I think! Plus he is never going to play in the EPL - he's smart enough to know he wouldn't be able to handle the physical demands.
Although i'm interested to know why you would put Flanagan into our midfield.

What-a-goal, I think you're talking a bit of sense there - you must be on the wrong site haha.
I'd be in no rush to sell lallana though. Plus this plan's fine to say, but there have to be teams that want to buy those players from us, and they need to want to go. We've already seen with enrique that certain players would happily run down their contracts training with the reserves rather than leave for a smaller wage.
The chasing of A Tex in Jan makes me fairly sure that Klopp will look to bring in another goal scorer too.
I guess we'll have to just wait and see.

Reports in a daily rag that shall forever be used as toilet paper seem to put Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal chief execs in a "secret" meeting in London about a new break away league as the Eds have suggested in the past. From what has been said in the past it would seem Liverpool were never in the mix for the new Pan European League but if this meeting with American Ross - who put together the ICC is to be believed - then we seem to be a front runner. Or is this just someone who is trying to take advantage of UEFA's turmoil with their own idea of a Pan European League to make a lot of money?

Believable2 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - This is the original counter proposal backed by UEFA to try and save their own skin which is soon to be tabled that I mentioned before. This is an option to the breakaway as everyone now knows the reality of it. The proposal is to rename and change the format of the UEFA Champions League to make it an elite closed-shop pan-European league with a fixed number of teams – and these would be the same teams every year. It would then require the restructuring of the Europa League and the possible introduction of a lower-tier European competition. Although they have yet to flesh out the detail and there is now a major concern that the impetus for this is not coming from Europe, one major Football Association has given their support and discussions have also been held with the leading clubs from England (Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal). The American backer, Stephen Ross of the Miami Dolphins, has requested a meeting with an extant group of sides considering the pan-European breakaway to discuss his proposals. They have yet to respond but having identified the source of much of the funding (and that raising a concern) will wish to discuss it between themselves first. However, UEFA are now considering yet another proposal that would see some places in the CL fixed (probably to previous winners) and then see it supplemented by Champions and second place sides each season. This complicates matters again as it means the re-introduction of a third competition or the significant restructuring of the EL.

02 Mar 2016 10:33:31
Sounds very complicated. I guess it's wait and see now. Thanks for the input Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - This has been dealt with in great detail here over the past three or four years - search on breakaway.}

02 Mar 2016 10:44:23
This is scary.

Agree3 Disagree4

02 Mar 2016 10:48:00
If this said meeting was regarding a proposal backed by UEFA, then how is the original European super league idea any different to this counter proposal? From what I see, both proposals pitch an idea of an exclusive, pan-European league with a fixed number of teams.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - It is radically different in terms of the teams that might be involved, the running of it and the people looking to fund it. UEFA gave this support, as they are doing with another proposal, to save their own asses.}

02 Mar 2016 11:51:01
HI EDS if this does happen what will happen with the other comps like the F. A. Cup.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - It will continue without any clubs who leave the league.}

02 Mar 2016 12:35:42
To me the scariest thing would be places being fixed for some teams - the top comp should always be earned. As much as I love LFC, imagine if this had happened a few years ago and we had spent the last 5 years getting in over Arsenal who had never won it? Would be a killer for the sport as the competition would be so uneven, there wouldn't even be a point in fighting for the prizes and the whole concept of every team being in it to win it all dies.

Agree4 Disagree2

02 Mar 2016 12:36:22
A European Super League also begs the question.
How much more money will the supporters of these teams be screwed for, to watch televised matches?

Agree4 Disagree1

02 Mar 2016 14:32:38
I'd be very interested to see this develop further. From the bits of info I've read on here (and I'm not pretending to fully understand it all either) this would allow the most marketable teams in the world - of which we're still one - to better access that revenue. Without other details it's daft to suggest that it'll be a bad idea anyway. Plus anything that gets us back at the top table with Barcelona etc ought to be explored.

Agree2 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - god no. It is purely about greed and money. Places in Europe should be earnt by winning, not by virtue of having a big name. It is like the moronic thinking that sees the world stuck with monarchies that offer no use or value but get to be there purely because of who they are, not because they deserve anything. Everyone and everything should earn what they get.}

02 Mar 2016 16:17:51
Imagine the cost of following your team every other week across Europe, that's just not sustainable. Wouldn't it result in half empty stadiums?

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Mar 2016 17:17:37
Would possibly be home fans only accept the few odd away fans who could possibly travel now and again but at least anfield with soon to be over 50 000 fans would be pretty awesome :p.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Mar 2016 18:50:10
I would imagine the away tickets would be supply on demand up to around 10% of the capacity of the stadium or something?

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2016 02:42:02
As the premier league is the currently biggest earning league is there any chance that it's actually in the interest of English teams to remain the premier league? One could imagine that over time the higher earnings generated by premier league teams would increase the wealth gap between themselves and the rest of Europe. What I am asking I suppose that if the premier league is currently "winning" why change anything?
Also agree with the poster above who thinks that attendances would be s concern due to travel costs. I for one hope this never happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it would be very much in the interest of the Prem teams in the short term. The issue is whether that is sustainable in the long term or whether a super league would eventually begin to gather up the less avid fans and the new arrivals in the long term.}

02 Mar 2016 07:14:29
Hi eds, is there anything in the karim belaradi the bayern leverkusen winger. Is there any intrest from liverpool? Thanxs.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Bayer Leverkusen's Karim Bellarabi's was previously looked at by West Ham, Montpellier and Chelsea but interest from those sides went when he signed a new long-term contract last year. Both Arsenal and Manchester City made their interest known to Bayer Leverkusen both in the summer and leading up to the January window. It is possible that Arsenal could try and get further talks going.}

01 Mar 2016 23:16:47
Sorry ed2 i meant dembele of rennes in my last post.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has not shown any interest in Renne's Ousmane Dembele who is seen as one for the future. He has attracted the attention of Marseille, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Seville, Leicester, Spurs, Lille and Manchester City.}
