Liverpool to sign Johan Elmander? (The Guardian)

ED thoughts? {ed's note - I don't know mate, I can see the thinking, a good foil for Torres who would be cheap but I just don't see him as good enough. He doesn't seem to have that technical ability that Comolli has targeted in the past while at Spurs either.}

Ed what is your take on the frank de boer and luis enrique rumour think it has legs and do you know what there style of play is like i've never heard of them ? {ed's note - I didn't think either had ever been in charge of anyone's first team before? I have certainly not noticed them being in charge of anyone to know what kind of play they like their teams to play. I very much doubt this rumour to be honest.}

Strong rumours in holland are suggesting that a managment team of frank de boer and luis enrique both ex barca players and both hotly tipped to be the next big thing in management with luis enrique already barcelona b head coach and frank de boer assistant manager of dutch national team according to reports in holland is that these 2 guys have been contacted by our owners to take over the running of the team in january in a 1 and 2 position with luis enrique taking the top job and frank de boer his number 2

I reckon this could have a chance. Bit out of left field but this might be the NESV way.

Highly rated midfielder Keisuke Honda could be on his way out of Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow as the Army Men have made it clear that they're ready to cash in on Honda if a good offer comes in.

"We do not plan to hold on to our players against their will. We will respect the players' wishes. We're ready to discuss a transfer if the price is right, " a CSKA spokesperson was quoted as saying by Sankei Sports.

The 24-year-old Honda joined CSKA Moscow from Eredivisie minnows VVV in January 2010 for a reported fee of €9 million. The playmaker has since developed into a key player at the Europa League hopefuls and his good performances haven't gone unnoticed elsewhere.

Honda was heavily linked with a move to Milan after the 2010 World Cup, but the attacking midfielder eventually stayed at the Moscow side.

According to a report in Sports Nippon, Premier League side Liverpool are now sitting in pole position to secure the services of Honda.

I REALLY HOPE WE GET HIM, , , I HOPE WE R IN TALKS WITH THEM NOW AND HOPEFULLY SORT OUT THE TRANSFER B4 JANUARY WE SHOULD OFFER THEM £16 MILLION NOW GET HIM QUICKLY ROYYYYY! !

Question for macca - you said rijjkard won't be manager which you seem sure about, so who do you think it will be? Is A V Boas of Porto a realistic possability?

Jim

Hi Jim,

No idea who the next manager will be. I personally think Roy will stay till the end of the season.

the club found info on Rijjkaard in the summer that they thought would not be in the best interests of the club if it ever came out.

I promise this is the absolute truth.

"About 2 weeks ago a few old mates i know from cuba told me that jesus navas wants to move to liverpool in the summer. (they know some of his family apparently) i thought this was rubbish and told them as much, now i see sevilla being linked with lucas. could this be a player plus cash deal?"

its only been in the last year or so that navas has been able to play away games and to join up with the spanish national team because he suffers from such bad home-sickness! hes aparently gettin better, but i cnt see him moving to england anytime soon!

Right i mentioned Navas around 2 months back and got tolf he wouldn't move cause hes home sick or something i though he looked like a decent option for us, on Alonso i don't blame him for moving, Benitez was cold hearted an never showed players love , you think about it Gareth Barry for Alonso makes you laugh when you look at how average Barry is , if alonso came back i don't think he would until we changed manager Roys tactics wouldn't suit the way Alonso used to play at Liverpool

Frank Rijkaard almost certain to be the next Liverpool managerReports are starting to come in that Frank Rijkaard is almost certain to replace Roy Hodgson as the next Liverpool manager.

Money has flooded in to some bookies in recent days and now William Hill go massive odds on that Rijkaard will be named as the next manager at Anfield.

Money forces prices down and there is no way that Hills would have such short odds unless significant money had been placed on Rijkaard, add this to the comments from Rijkaard's agent about managing Liverpool and some reports in the Dutch media that meetings have already taken place and you have a scenario building that has the writing on the wall for current manager Roy Hodgson.

Another factor is that the new owners will be loathe to give a manager money to spend in the January transfer window if they are going to let him go and despite improved performances in recent weeks Liverpool still find themselves stuck mid table.

The end game for Hodgson now looks to be in play and with the bookies, media and agents all more or less stating that Rijkaard is to be the next Liverpool manager it does appear that it is now just a matter of time.

About the Alonso / Rafa / Barry story .
It was all down to money, At the time Alonso was not performing but could get 20m for him, Barry was at the top of his game and could've been ours for 8m , would have left Rafa with ~ 10m to spend else where . but at the last minute owners pulled the plug as they did many times, and you lot must admit, we did see a far better Alonso after this saga, his last year with us was his best .

I know most of you won't believe this, you are only interested in "Rafa was stupid stories" , just like the press want you to think .
I am not saying he got everything right, he did few things wrong , (Keane situation for one).

He wasn't very clear on that to be honest, but he did mention a few times that African players have been asked to do just that. He said that it had actually prevented deals going through in the past when the player was unwilling to miss out on the African Nations Cup.}

There is no chance of us chasing central defenders this January; if anything, we've got too many already. Hopefully Wilson will play well in the Europa tie and then be rewarded with a run in the first team. In fact there won't be any defensive players sought whatsoever until the summer, when it's possible Johnson will head off, with either Kelly taking the role or a purchase, and a top class right back will be brought in, with both Aurelio and Konchesky being shipped out and Insua used in rotation. This January, if anything happens at all, which it may well not, will be about width and goals, nothing else. I expect Honda as the only signing to go into the first team.

Sorry, that should read 'a top class left back will be brought in'. And I reckon it should or will be Contrao.

Liverpool aim to real the two stars in at anfield by promising silver wear for this season, (not sure how it would work for them both as of cup ties?). . also In the summer liverpool looking to sign Stephen Pienaar on a free transfer along with michael owen. .

Ed, what's up with all of the sudden Xabi Alonso-talk? Is he being linked with us again? I doubt that he'd be coming back, playing regulary with Real and everything, even though we have a new manager. I'd like to see the tw*t that joins a club because of a man like HODGSON! {ed's note - he is only being linked because he is likely to be replaced at Madrid by Schweinsteiger. But that might not happen and then even if it does we would have to stump up the cash for him and convince him to return.}

I never said he fell out with his team mates. Maybe the unrest was Rafa's fault, but why would Rafa want to get rid of one of his most influencial players on the pitch?
I heard the story differently, maybe then wrongly.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

It all kicked off before we played Inter Milan at the San Siro a couple of years ago (when Torres scored).

Xabi Alonso's wife was close to her due date for giving birth and Alonso didn't want to travel all the way to Italy incase she went into labour or something (and apparantly she was feeling ill also).

They had an arguement about it and then Benitez tried to get rid.

I would side with Alonso personally. I wouldn't want to leave my wife so close to her due date especially if she was ill. Rafa should have put himself in Alonso's shoes.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
RAFA WAS A STUPID MAN AT TIMES. HE'D STILL BE MANAGER OF LIVERPOOL IF HE HADN'T BEEN SO STUBBORN. RAFA NEVER HAD DECENT RELATIONS WITH INFLUENTIAL PRESS AND MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES. ALONSO WOULD STILL BE AT LIVERPOOL IF RAFA HAN'T TREATED HIM SO BADLY. ALTHOUGH LUCAS HAD ONE OF HIS BEST EVER GAMES FOR LIVERPOOL AGAINST INTER IN THE SAN SIRO IN 07/ 08.

But Ajax, theres many options there, if Reina is leaving theres Stelekenberg, if Johnson leaves theres Van Der Wiel, or Babel leaving with Suarez coming, thoughts anybody?

Skysports.com understands Birmingham defender Scott Dann is a target for Premier League rivals Liverpool and Tottenham.

Dann has been earning rave reviews for Birmingham this season and has been tipped for an England call-up after a number of eye-catching performances at the heart of the Blues' backline.

A number of clubs are thought to be tracking the former England Under 21 international, who will get another chance to impress in Wednesday's Carling Cup clash with Aston Villa.

Liverpool are believed to be ready to step up their interest in the 23-year-old in the wake of the injury to Jamie Carragher.

The versatile defender has been ruled out of action for three months with a dislocated shoulder and Liverpool-born Dann is thought to be on Roy Hodgson's wanted list in the January transfer window to cover for Carragher's absence.

Spurs are also keeping a watching brief on Dann's situation at St Andrews with Harry Redknapp keen to bolster his defensive options due to the ongoing long-term fitness concerns over Ledley King.

Birmingham are determined to keep hold of Dann with the player establishing himself as a key member of Alex McLeish's squad since his arrival from Coventry in the summer of 2009.
Flattered
Dann admits he is flattered to be linked with a move to the likes of Liverpool and Spurs, but he is keeping his focus on his football.

"Obviously the speculation linking me with some top clubs in the Premier League is flattering, " Dann told skysports.com.

"Ultimately it is my ambition to play at the highest level with a major club like it is for any player, but for the time being I am happy playing at Birmingham and I am focused on doing my best for the club."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

On Sky Sports. Linked with us and Tottenham.

I'd be really pleased if he signed. I think he's as good a player as Cahill or Shawcross and would maybe cost less.

I think him and Rodger Johnson are brilliant for Birmingham and never get any credit for it. (Although Johnson gets a lot more credit than Dann.)

Before you post any rumours concerning mediocre players consider the following:

- Roy's long-term position at the club is uncertain.
- Comoli's job is to advise not Roy, but NESV on
possible reinforcements.
- NESV want to restore Liverpool's top 4 status
- NESV won't waste money on players with no future or resale value
- NESV have not spent any money yet on a player, so they will want their first buy to be . .eh not Calton Cole
This means that C.Cole, Elmander, SWP amd anyone else of that caliber won't be bought.

Also, Roy better show ambition by suggesting talented players or else he might be sacked as well.

Konchesky and Poulsen are mistakes. I think that Roy realises that by now. Meireles could be a hit. Roy knows that he won't be able to win with players he liked in the past and that he has to adapt to a bigger club with more ambition.

{ed's note - what unrest did he cause? Are you sure you are not thinking of Arbeloa? After all it was his attitude in forcing a move out of the club that led to Carra and him having a bust up on the pitch towards the end of the season.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Agreed Arbeloa was a t* t, but Alonso had been forcing Benitez hand at the time as he really wanted the Madrid move. This caused a few bust ups between him and Alonso which resulted in Benitez refusing to speak to him. Now surely that would cause unrest if players were witnessing this? Mascherano did exactly the same thing except he was more public about it.

MUSHROOM {ed's note - that was Rafa's fault - he alienated the lad in an attempt to force him out of the club. Xabi left on very good terms with his team mates.}

He's a future England defender I think but it's depends on his price if he's worth it. I don't think we need to go after a cb. Your thoughts on him ed? {ed's note - I don't see anything special about him, he is very poor on the ball and no improvement on the youngsters we have. It should be remembered that he plays in a team that are defensive and give a lot of protection to the back four, that makes it easier for him and Johnson to do well. Having said that, I do think he is a decent defender, just not top class.}

More and more stories coming from people close to the club about Alonso. He's not happy with Mourinho and as we all no he loved it here. Not going to start saying that he is definately signing as I couldn't back that up but he is in contact with friends at liverpool and I think if at all possible this deal will be done but prob not till the summer. Paper talk is of Sweinstiger a target for Real so this would be a replacement for Alonso in my opinion.

I really can't see Alonso coming back. I, for one, wouldn't want him back. He could not wait to get out and caused a lot of unrest before he went. Do you people have short memories? Alonso is not the answer.

MUSHROOM {ed's note - what unrest did he cause? Are you sure you are not thinking of Arbeloa? After all it was his attitude in forcing a move out of the club that led to Carra and him having a bust up on the pitch towards the end of the season.}

The odds of Rijkaard are now at 2/ 5 to become Liverpool manager with William Hill
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The bookies know no more than us. The only reason this has happened is because they've had an influx of bets, obviously caused by some false speculation.

Surely there must be some legs in the rijkaard being our new manager , because why would william hill have the odds at 2/ 5 that is massive favourite and why would people be putting loads of money on just a rumour? Somebody must have inside info?

To the guy who "Lives in Doncaster and attends a lot of the matches" you *should* know that O'Driscoll wasn't behind their "Meteoric rise to fame from the Non League" He took the job in 2006 when Donny were in League 1.

He also wasn't in the post when they played Arsenal in the QUARTER FINAL (not Semi) of the League Cup. That was Dave Penney, months before O'Driscoll took over.

If you're gonna make up lies, at least do your research. Come on, it only took *me* 2 minutes!

From . .caughtoffside.

Liverpool will turn to former Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill as new owners NESV look to replace Roy Hodgson. The under fire Anfield manager is thought to be nearing the axe after a poor start to the season and the 58 year old Northern Irishman is apparently seen as the man to take over the reigns at the Merseyside club.

Roy Hodgson had appeared to be steadying the ship after a series of positive results, including a win over Chelsea, but one win in his last four Premier League games has heaped pressure back on the Croydon born veteran and it appears he may be heading for the chop.

Frank Rijkaard is the marginal favourite to be the next Liverpool boss with some bookmakers but some sources believe that the former Barcelona man may be looking to take a break from the game following his recent sacking by Turkish side Galatasaray and could also be hoping for a job back in his native Holland in the short term. Fellow front runner Martin O'Neill has been out of the game since he left Villa Park in early August and is thought to be very keen on taking the Liverpool job.

Liverpool's new owners are thought to be keen to make any managerial changes by January at the latest as they would look to any prospective new manager to invest any transfer fund injection and not Roy Hodgson. The club are currently in 10th spot, some seven points from a coveted top four finish.

From talksport,

Arsenal and Liverpool's defensive frailties will not be improved by the signing of Philippe Mexes

The two Premier League clubs were reportedly interested in the French centre-back but Roma are now set to extend his contract, according to reports in Italy.

Mexes has been highly thought of around Europe for a number of years and clubs were on red alert this season as it appeared Roma were not able to meet the players financial demands.

Unicredit, the Italian club's shirt sponsor, however, have stepped in to help secure the services of the 28-year-old.

The new deal will keep Mexes at the club for a further four years and earn him up to £3m per season.

Does anyone for one minute think that england have tried to bribe anyone for this world cup? ?
the whole game is full of payments backhanders. there was a report about unnamed english teams that have evidence about them fixing games in this country champions league and all over Europe sent to Scotland yard about 3 months ago. . lets see if anything comes of that investigation. the whole game needs to be investigated from top fifa to every FA in the world and pass to enter into big comps. that's why they don't want uptodate technology involved in the game because the b* tards can't make money from it all then. yes it will make crowds drop if it was found to be true but it will be clean slate and start all again. if nothink comes out of Scotland yard in say next 6 months then you know just how high it goes, it was supposed to have been banned to rights evidence of certain clubs match fixing. round of applause to that journalist on panorama last night.i think he deserves a night hood

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is hoping to strengthen his weak squad in the January transfer window, and one of his main targets has emerged as young Belgian international Eden Hazard.
The 19-year-old winger plays for Lille in France, and has been identified by new Anfield director of football strategy Damien Comolli, who was an admirer of Hazard when he was working with St Etienne.
The winger already has 20 full caps for Belgium even though he is still a teenager, and he starred against Liverpool playing for his French club in the Europa League last season.
Hodgson will make a firm bid in January, in an attempt to head off interest from other clubs who have been watching the player, including the likes of Real Madrid and Arsenal

Lets hope this is true, add a forward to help Torres and things will look good.

"Strong rumours in holland are suggesting that a managment team of frank de boer and luis enrique both ex barca players and both hotly tipped to be the next big thing in management with luis enrique already barcelona b head coach and frank de boer assistant manager of dutch national team according to reports in holland is that these 2 guys have been contacted by our owners to take over the running of the team in january in a 1 and 2 position with luis enrique taking the top job and frank de boer his number 2"

Interesting rumour. Could make sense. Louis Enrique & Frank De Boer both been or are at Barca, both used to a Director of Football, both would know Rodolfo Borrell and Jose Segura. Speaks continuity as if they were the management team at the top they would compliment completely the guys in control of the youth set up, both ex Barca also. Interesting?

Ok, heres a biggy for you all. I live in Doncaster and attend a lot of Doncaster games, its a smallish town so you see the players often in and about the pubs, a mate of mine works at the club and he says that the board are tenatively looking for a new manager as they exect Sean o' Driscoll to be tentaively approached by Livrpool in January as the new assistant manager. Apparently the plan is for Roy to see out the season with the board having time to run the rule over O'Driscoll's abilities, if up to it he'll be offered the job full time next season ( Pending roy not reaching cl) if that happens O'drscoll will saty on as assistant with the view to being the long term replacement. Commoli was aparently really impressed with the league semi final performance aginst arsenal a couple of seasons ago, when rovers very nearly caused the upset of the century.
Now I know a lot of you are critical of an appointment like O'Driscoll, but honestly look at Donny's meteroric rise since he's been in post from non-league to prmotion cadidates in the championship, playing the best passing football in the division and doing it by spendng next to nothing. He may not be a big name, but trust me he makes a mockery of most other big name british managers in terms of tactics and wisely using resources.Plus its well known in Donny that players love playing for him, he's a true football man through and through. Now don't discount him until you've actually seen donny play.
Bad news however is taht O drscoll is unlikely to take the no.2 job, as he believes Donny will be promoted this season.
Still its very interestuing that NESV are taking a more holistic view of future replacements rather than going for mediocre overpaid managers whose only succes has come at clubs with unlimirted budgets ( Rijkarrd)
I for one hope if not O'Driscoll then a similar canddate is considered to drive us forward in a way which is meaningful to the fans.

All that said who wouldn't love hiddink, but I don't believe that he will ever manage a club side again.

Till it happens I'm behind Roy and the lads, come on liverpool

I know its only paper gossip but just read we are interested in bringinging Djibril Cisse back to Anfield he is having a cracking season in Greece for Panathanikos
"Cisse remains a solid purchase, and although a price-tag of more than £10million could put off several potential suitors, his goal record in Greece of 35 goals in 39 games makes him an attractive prospect"

What are your views Ed?

Coolhand LFC {ed's note - not worth it, he is not good enough.}

I SAW HIM LAST WEEK AGAINST BARCELONA IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND HE MISSED TWO VERY EASY CHANCES. HE IS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND ALTHOUGH HE HAD HIS INJURIES, HE BLEW HIS CHANCE FIRST TIME AROUND.

obviously you have the right of free speech and can say what you like but all im saying is that by you referring to the rest of the users of this site as gangsters affects how credible what you have to say, sounds. I didn't mean to be rude but its obvious.

The only reason c. cole didn't sign for liverpool is; i try and get as much info from the capital clubs as poss mostly from spurs though, and the reason given regarding babel is spot on! app liverpool tried with pavlyuchenco but he refused point blank so liverpool switched to c. cole! and app the deal will still go ahead come january and joining him if fit will be jamie o'hara

People seem to swiftly forget that things have changed, and that our transfers are now decided by a committee and that every transfer Liverpool make will be closely analysed by the three people in the committee. And we're spending more wisely now. No more wastes of money in regards to both fees and wages.

We won't pay £10m on top of about £60,000 p/ w wages for that big donkey. No bloody way. And to even suggest that we would give away Ryan Babel as part of any deal for C.Cole is actually quite shocking. Babel is already a better player, with bags and bags of raw potential. C.Cole's potential never started, because he never had any.

Liverpool are considering a bid for Japan's standout performer from the World Cup, Keisuke Honda, who is thought to be available in the January transfer window after suggesting he wants to leave CSKA Moscow.

Sankei Sports reports that a CSKA director has said of the situation: "We will not lock our players in. If the bid is fair, we respect the players' will."

This after Honda's agent, Kees Ploegsma, told Sport.co.uk: "When a big club comes in he will want to leave but at the moment that has not happened."

However, Sports Nippon have claimed that: "CSKA and Liverpool already started the
negotiation."

It seems that if a big club make a bid for Honda in January, he will be likely to leave, but Liverpool face competition for the midfielder, with AC Milan also reportedly interested.

Jamie Carragher to undergo surgery on his dislocated shoulder imminently. My best mate is an Orthopaedic Surgeon, he says not to expect Carra to be playing again anytime soon, usually takes 3 months to fully heal.

Taking that into consideration and with Agger's recent injury record, I wouldn't be surprised to see a cenre half being signed in January. Phillipe Mexes has been strongly linked, personally, I'd rather see Gary Cahill or Ryan Shawcross.

The only reason that Carlton Cole isn't already a Liverpool player is that a last ditch deal involving Ryan Babel going in the opposite direction couldn't be agreed in time on deadline day. There is no reason to believe Roy won't move for him again in January.
Cole's poor form so far this season is due to him sulking about the deal falling through. Unless Roy is stopped by the board he will attempt to sign him for £8 million once the window opens.In the summer Roy was playing under different rules. I would be very surpised if C.Cole was the type of player that Liverpool will go after. New owners with the future of the club there main interest and C.Cole will not fit into there plans.

{Editor's Note: Any transfers will need to be agreed between Roy, Comolli and others before the board (Tom Wener) are approached to release any money. So any fouled up transfers from now on are not going to be the fault of the manager - certainly not alone.}

What i said was that if Madrid where to ever sell him, which i don't think they will, is that i know he would come back to Liverpool, he really loved the place, the fans and our great club.

Just to reiterate it will never happen.
