Eds with Phillips signing his new contract is there any talk of a loan being sorted tonight?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No, Williams will go and I will expect him to stay after Liverpool failed to find a buyer.}

31 Aug 2021 20:01:20
ED02 - do i need to stay up until 11pm or later to watch a late transfer in going through. I could do with the sleep.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I rather doubt it at this moment in time.}

31 Aug 2021 20:10:29
I imagine with Phillips it’s a case of protecting his value and hopefully find a buyer for him next summer.

I really like him, but thought last season would be the perfect springboard his career onto another PL team.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 20:44:38
But if he doesn't play his value will only decline. Sounds negative but its the truth.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 21:13:53
It depends on where your priorities lie.
Considering how short we found ourselves last season (hopefully a one off) I think having Philips on board is a sound idea. He's at his dream club, I don't think he'll be worrying too much about his value dropping.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 22:33:18
Very very disappointing window for LFC.

Agree11 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 22:46:29
Yea, instead of being short/ light at the back we’re now short/ light up front. I seem to remember the front 3 struggling at least as much as our defence last season. Seems like we’re willing to gamble on this season like we did last.

Agree4 Disagree0

01 Sep 2021 01:55:29
You don’t think that part of the problem was the lack of a defence - the supply from the back dropped in quality and frequency?

Or that our two most effective midfielders were forced to play as makeweight centre halves so that not only the defence and I’d field were both weakened?

Or that one of the front three had C.V. (maybe long C.V.? ) and that Jota took a while to settle in and had an injury or two himself?

Easier to say they are all past it I guess?

Agree4 Disagree0

01 Sep 2021 07:50:30
This will give minamini and ox to get some much nedded gametime.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Sep 2021 09:09:40
I think we have what it takes to 'challenge' in all competitions, provided we do not have major injuries like we had last season. That being said, most of our main competitors are strengthening but we just added Konate. Yes, we have Elliot, we have Ox and Minamino back. but the problem is we're not sure if they will step up or not, even if given the chance to play. Hopefully they will and it'll be a masterstroke by Klopp and FSG. Otherwise, we'll regret not signing another attacker or midfielder this window. Oh well. there's always that January transfer window if we really need someone.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - van Dijk and Matip back too.}

01 Sep 2021 09:53:12
I distinctly remember Mané and Firmino struggling to put away the most simplest of chances. That has nothing to do with defenders missing or midfielders playing outta position.

Jota didn’t take a while to settle in. He hit the ground running and was one of our best players early last season. His injury knocked his momentum. Don’t see how that impacts Mané and Firminos finishing ability and decision making in the final third which at times was appalling.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Sep 2021 14:12:37
Firmino's finishing ability is mid-table capability.
Without Salah's contribution, Liverpool will also have be mid-table, juts like Firmino.
Often said that Firmino's greatest contribution is linking up play, and not necessarily scoring.
The same was said of Heskey, linking up playing, holding the ball, occupying the defenders, defending from the font.

Bottom line, no.9 need to be like a no.9.
They need to score goals, like a Haaland.
If he could fetch us some money, I would have upgrade on him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - and yet Owen will tell you that playing alongside Heskey increased his goal tally massively.}

01 Sep 2021 14:28:51
Waynechai, Salah himself has said multiple times along with Mane that without Bobbie facilitating them over the years, they would not be anywhere near the players they have become so how has Bobbie done all he has done if he was a mistake player?

“A goal scorer needs to score goals” if that was the case then your beef is with Klopp who discarded Benteke and let Studge go and chose to keep Bobbie? And comparing a true baller like Bobbie to Heskey sums up your rant perfectly.

Lastly, I propose you read the response Ed01 made to your comment. Priceless.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Sep 2021 20:20:36
Mid table capability striker who scored the goal that finally bagged Liverpool the World Club trophy.
Wayne if you think Liverpool should be ditching Firmino in favour of a "traditional no 9" then you've got no idea of how Klopp wants his team to play.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2021 22:48:00
A lot of people forgetting that the disjointed nature of defence meant the midfield (missing fab for most of it) was pulled back to provided added cover. Same for the front 3, they were often dragged back to create openings which made our attacks slow, predictable and ineffective.

It’ll be much different this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2021 09:57:50
Our 2 full backs were covering 2 inexperienced centre backs instead of joining the attack, that definitely had an impact on the front 3.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 17:03:26
Nat Phillips has signed a new long term deal at the club. Incoming loan announcement?

Believable6 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2021 17:15:19
Apparently it’s Rhys going on loan and Phillips stays to compete as 5th choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 17:16:12
Was his contract up in the summer?

Big fan but I feel likes he's far away from the 1st team and he's 24. surely a loan incoming and then they're in a solid position to sell him after.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 17:22:28
I think he was contracted until 2023, from memory.

I always remember Mike Hooper - 137 years on the bench, 2 appearances, but loved his time here! Divock in the same boat. Maybe Phillips too?

Or, more likely, could be a loan for the season and look to sell next year when financial constraints may be a bit less of an issue for the majority of clubs in Europe.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 17:31:49
That came out of nowhere? I mean I'm happy that he stays but as well kinda don't get the new contract. I was all in for him staying for the next 6 to 12 months, but new contract?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 17:49:34
Love there time here? happy not to play? What are we, Butlins?

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 17:51:36
Phillips is better than Rhys. It’s a good thing.

Agree5 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 17:56:46
Happy for Nat.

He is a good player and he seems to be a great guy.

Agree4 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 18:11:13
Yep it’s a good thing. Our defence is super strong.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 18:18:53
Jadon Havertz, you do realise that there’s no point having training games against our under 18s all the time. Having a large-ish squad with experienced, half decent second choice players like Phillips and Origi will mean our training sessions are always at a decent level and help keep our first choice players on their toes. There’s a place for this type of player at the club, especially if they are happy and settled.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 18:18:59
A good thing for Nat Mark? not good for the club either, needless wages running into the millions being paid when were supposedly broke.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 18:25:45
Ah, so Philips did sign a new contract then? I wonder now will he go out on loan to a PL or Bundesliga club and it will be the first thing I've ever got right on transfer day?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 18:35:20
Saul to Chelsea done.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 18:40:49
Traing games? give over will ye, four senior centrehalves been helped out with the clubs best kids when injuries occur have always being enough for this club. For all Premier league clubs, especially one that will NEVER play 3 at the back. i get it, we all like Nat i like Nat myself but this is overkill and bad for the blokes career unless its setting up a loan.

Agree4 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 20:36:24
Another embarrassing Liverpool supporter, still sporting a hilarious username made up of two players who will never play for the club whilst slagging the club off for extending the contract of players who probably add to our problematic homegrown number AND helped us to land 3rd place last season which looked lost at one point. Nat thanks you for your support….

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 21:17:22
JH, have you ever considered what Philips wants?
Because at the moment it's all about what you want.
The club is happy, Philips is happy, it's only you that seems to be unhappy. Why is that?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 22:07:25
Also could see joe be a cover right back, and Phillips cb. Reserve back four being gomez konate phillips and kostas.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2021 01:57:53
It’s a bit like Bez at the Mondays eh?

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2021 06:46:36
Embarassing that someone actually gives a f%$k about a username on a rumour site, probably care how many followers you have on the twitter-verse aswell. Look, just because someone disagrees with the narrative it doesn't make them wrong or embarassing. Phillips done well last year, the huge chances are he won't get the chance to do a fraction as well this season and his value will further decline. i'll leave it at that.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2021 07:48:00
Naah mate, don’t give a monkeys about Twitter so you’re wrong on that point too. And I stand by the username thing, it’s easily changed, why would a Liverpool supporter use a name made up from Chelsea/ United players, it doesn’t make sense. But you carry on slating the players if that makes you happy.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Sep 2021 08:06:59
Keep it up and i'll change it to Christiano Niguez! Say that'll totally infuriate ye. And your not slating players the minute you say the slightest thing negative.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 13:08:55
So, apparently Rhys Williams is leaving on loan to Swansea. If that is the case then I cannot see Phillips leaving in this window.

When you consider Van Dijk, Matip and Gomez's long term injury issues last season, not to mention Konate's issue with injuries himself, we need an able bodied player to fill in when needed, and give players a rest.

Cannot see any other activity taking place, however. Fingers crossed this does not bite us on the ass.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2021 13:17:27
I will be Happy if Phillips stays, we will need him. We need 5 cbs this season as you say.

Agree8 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 13:23:06
Good move for him.

I think we could still get away with Phillips leaving to be honest.

VVD, Matip, Gomez, Konate + Fabinho and youth CBs is plenty under normal circumstances!

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 13:36:33
VVD seems to be much more robust, only we know Matip and Gomez are made of crisps. There is always a risk but life is a risk.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 13:42:52
Glad that it’s championship level and not league one or two. He showed that he can step up and hopefully the lad will have a great season.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 13:46:35
I like Nat and I would be happy for him to stay a while longer.

He did a solid job last season and I don’t think he would let us down if called on.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 13:59:43
I think to plan for all your centre backs to be injured because it happened once is over kill. If we do not suffer 3 injuries at the same time then there is a good chance Phillips won't get no game time.

Agree4 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 14:04:50
Apparently interest is growing in Nat Philips.
He may move yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 14:09:57
Matip and Gomez won’t last the season …that’s guaranteed. Phillips around would mean more weekly wages for FSG to pay …happy with that.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 14:36:19
We need at least 14 centre backs. If we don’t then what will we do if 12 of our centre backs get injured?
We also need those kind of centre backs that are worlds class but cheap and they must also not want to play, but be hungry and ready to play when we lose 12 centre backs.

Agree11 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 14:48:07
I think Phillips needs to go on loan to a Prem side if no offer to buy comes in. He can't even get on the bench at the moment. Keep his value up.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 15:23:39
To the post above regarding we have fabhino as cb cover too! Just no! Did u not see the effect of taking from Peter to feed Paul had on the middle! Fabs isn’t a cb I don’t care if he played there when he was 4!

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 15:29:10
How many goals did Williams cause last year. very average at best sell him if anyone would buy him and keep Phillips. a good old fashioned centre half.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 16:16:15
I’m sure the club has worked out the fitness levels of our CBs to see what shape they are in and if they are likely to break down or not.
4 senior CBs of VVD, Konate, Matip and Gomez is extremely strong on paper. That’s 4 players who would start in the majority of teams in the prem. Philips isn’t getting a look in there.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 16:47:53
If Phillips wants to go then he's got every right and with our thanks bit I think players like him give a team some soul, don't know why, I'd be very happy to see him stay.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 17:01:21
Phillips has signed a long term contract, so can't see him going anywhere, unless it's a loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 17:04:36
Nat Phillips just signed a new deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 20:17:28
I’ve never heard so much negativity over a player signing a new contract! NP is never going to be as good as VVD, but he did a great job for us last year when he finally got a change and he fully deserves a good contract as without him last year we wouldn’t have got top 4.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 20:55:45
Why0Why, you had Kevin stitches with that one, man 🤣🤣🤣.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 09:38:54
Eds,
Thank you for keeping us all updated throughout the transfer window - and especially to Ed2 for his insight!
Should we expect any movement today of players and if so, who should we keep an eye on/ who is most likely? I’m thinking more of ins but outs too!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new I am aware of. I think everything I know of has been discussed.}

31 Aug 2021 10:23:36
I’m surprised the likes of Phillips, Ojo and Karius haven’t been moved on yet.

Agree4 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 11:32:38
Ed is Renato Sanches on loan to Wolves possible? I know he's injured but a loan could be a low risk option. Any chance Liverpool could 'swoop' in and 'hijack' the move? ;)

Happy deadline day to one and all!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Renato Sanches (CM) Lille are happy to let the player move on due to the constant muscle injuries he suffers; they wanted €20M cash or €30M with payments spread out although that could increase if Jorge Mendes can find multiple bidders or if there is no sale before the season starts. Klopp has praised him in the past and he would be a more affordable replacement for Wijnaldum, but not the preferred option for Liverpool. Barcelona has a sustained interest and he would prove to them to be financially viable whilst they work their financial issues. There has been a discussion with Arsenal and he will likely be offered to Spurs as well. I had thought prior interest of Wolves would likely have left with NES but they could take a chance on him joining on a loan to buy deal after his recent injury. The concern would be injury issues and, although talented, he is inconsistent. His agent says there have been further talks with both Liverpool and Barcelona. Milan may offer a deal similar to Wolves.}

31 Aug 2021 11:57:03
Interesting, thanks a mil Ed002.

Haha, so at least we've got the exciting possibility of signing an inconsistent, injury prone and currently injured player to get the pulses racing on deadline day. LOL.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 12:06:36
Smokescreens are part of Edwards tactical approach. You only need to look at the amount of bids that have been thrown about, 50m for demiral last jan is one example.
On that note, what do the Ed's know of his imminent departure next summer?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Edwards will leave at the end of his contract and explore new opportunities.}

31 Aug 2021 12:25:47
Edwards is wasted at Liverpool, if he goes to a club that gives him decent funds he will do great things, again.

Agree4 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 12:28:51
Markp08 - think you get the award for most negative poster on here! I yearn for the return of negativeredwalter so you can have a good ‘moan off’….

Agree13 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 12:36:28
Does Jones fit Klopp's tactics? Maybe Jones wants to play more often seeing as Elliott appears to be ahead of him now.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 13:07:44
Just a realist John, Edwards obviously feels something isn’t to his liking as he is off. Great news on Hendo btw. Wish Salah would sign as well, then the window might not be seen as so bad after all.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, he is coming to the end of his contract and will want to try something new.}

31 Aug 2021 13:29:27
Salah is going to be very difficult and expensive to replace. I can’t think of many wide players who regularly score more than 10 goals a season, or even look like replicating his levels.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 16:17:28
I reckon mark08 is negative Walter. Nothing nice to say, say nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 18:00:49
Mark, Or Maybe Edwards who has been instrumental on our success not just with the recruitment or data analytics but with other ventures (stadium expansion project, AXA training facility, Nike deal etc. ), needs to move on and explore new challenges after being at the club for a decade. But hey, what do I know, right?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 09:06:05
I was suprised to read about Curtis Jones as a possible transfer out from Liverpool?
Is there any truth in this?
Hopefully its just craptalk. Cause he is a future great player.

Origi can clearly cover that though in FSG eyes, no problem.

Agree11 Disagree0

If it’s a hamstring I doubt very much it would be 3 months. It would of had to have been a complete tear and he wouldn’t just have walked off.

And just maybe find out what the club say before coming to the negative conclusions in the firs place?

Rumours coming out now that it's only going to be a couple of weeks. How quickly the Word According to Twitter changes, eh? If that's the case, with the international break eating up one week, he may only miss Leeds and Milan. I'm sure some people are devastated.

Let's see what the club say.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 16:31:22
Something red, if you have been watching us over the past 4-5 years (basically under the klopp era) you would know that when they say ‘he’s out for a couple weeks’ it’s a complete lie and the player will be out for longer, that’s one constant with Liverpool nowadays, we never get the actual accurate extent on an injury, usually when it’s worse than we think. Firmino will most likely be out for more than a couple weeks if that’s what the team has said. It’ll be announced after the transfer window as well for obvious reasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 18:03:47
The club has not announced officially for how long Bobbie will be out for so let the chaos and conjecture begin cos clearly, some know a lot more than the club is willing to reveal.

Being reported by a top Belgian journo that Origi has made it clear he wants to leave Liverpool in Deadline Day.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2021 06:56:47
This mess should have been sorted earlier in the window. Why are we laving this until the last day of the window?
This reminds me of how Spurs operated under Harry Redknapp and Wenger towards the end of his time at Arsenal.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 07:35:44
To be fair this should of been dealt with last summer. Never been good enough for us barring the goals against Everton and barca. Get what you an and get rid.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 08:10:34
I'll be really, really annoyed if he suddenly changed his mind and decided to leave with 1 or 2 days left to replace him.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 08:18:11
It shows how easily led some are when they believe a story that Origi all of a sudden wants out on the last day and then start with the player and club slagging.
Never mind that it sounds like total crap, just instantly believe it.
Amazing.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 09:34:55
Putting aside rumours from Twitter and voices people seem to hear in their heads and Origi does leave why is there a need to replace him?

As Origi made a minimal contribution last season what’s the need to replace him? Do we need someone to bulk out the squad photograph? Got to be worth spending £ 30 - 40 m on a brainless panic buy. So, come on all you brainless out there - panic and shout out random names.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 10:34:35
The lad obviously doesn't want to play football. Happy to collect his big salary. But it's OK he's seen as a hero on here.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i suspect thats not true..

31 Aug 2021 10:41:42
That doesn't really work like that though West does it?
Origi has barely played as he isn't good enough, another quality option when its obvious a natural finisher is often needed is what we shoukd be looking at, the glaring amount of chances wasted up front is crazy at times.
Do City have rotation in their front 3? Of course because they trust the lads in the squad to do a job, Klopp clearly thinks Origi does not, that's why he's not been used not because we don't need the option.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 10:58:54
And of course, natural finishers grow on trees and are dirt cheap because they're so available.
And will be happy to spend time on the bench.
It's a fine balancing act to achieve. City can afford to pay their players staggering amounts to get splinters in their hoop, we can't.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2021 18:07:52
Not sure the rumor is even true anyway but many seem to know a lot about Divvy regarding his motivations and state of mind are (prolly without ever meeting him) just cos he won’t do what they like him to do and except any off gold or bad, to leave. The guy has earned everything he has received in football so why would he do what other people want?
