Hi eds hope you're all well.
first time poster so be gentle!
just wondered what your thoughts are on Essien? Read today that his agent says he could move on, surely would be worth a punt though strengthen up midfield? Shed loads of experience and knows how to tackle! Also are we in any shape or form interested in Pato of corinthians? Last but not least El Shaarawy, remember reading a few weeks back that we were linked with him is there amy truth in this? Think these are the kind of players we need to be signing if we are serious about getting back into top four.
what are you thoughts lads?
all the best for new year keep up the good work.

{Ed001's Note - Essien was once a fantastic powerhouse midfielder, though a bit rash, but injuries have robbed him of most of his power and pace. Not worth a punt any more, he needs to go to a slower league, he just can't hack it in the Prem against the top sides.
Pato is injury prone and not very good, he went back to Brazil because no one is interested in him at the wage he was demanding. Since going home, he has done nothing to inspire or create demand for his services.
El Shaarawy is a different kettle of fish, but his sale is only to raise funds to rebuild, similar to the way Everton sold Rooney to strengthen the team. They are looking for a big pay day.}

Essien is ready for a last payday in US/Qatar/Abu Dhabi etc, no where good enough for the prem anymore.

{Ed001's Note - the reports are just jumping the gun hoping to be proven right later, right now no move has been made for either.}

There is major interest in Salah, and moves have been made behind the scenes. His agent knows what is on offer contract wise and Salah is keen to accept as of today. No actual offer has been made to his club, but talks are going on. Tello was enquired about, along with three other Barca fringe players, but he is no longer an option.

Tello is no longer an option for the January window, he will review his options at the end of the season.

I think it was an auto-correct for Agger

Agree1 Disagree1

If that happens it should be perfect to get us top 4 ynwa

Agree1 Disagree0

Think auto correct changed agger to after, just my guess?

Agree1 Disagree1

Are we the new Arsenal of 7 years ago? Buying players and youth from Barcelona - Luis Alberto, Tello, and Montoya.

Nice Joke mate.

Wish you a great 2014.

Agree1 Disagree0

Agger's not leaving, not with Sakho out now anyway!

So apparently the salad deal is nowhere near done, his agent has said today that Liverpool are yet to agree a fee with Basel it seems we only value him at 7m where they want close to 14. He also said two other clubs are in the running now.
Sounds like we may loose another target due to haggling with the fee again.

Believable43 Unbelievable10

He's a proven goalscorer in Europe and would fit our system perfectly. All due respect but if Luis Alberto and Aspas were £7 million the board are in dreamland if they think they'll get Salah, an international with European pedigree, for £7 million.

Agree2 Disagree1

I no mate, when I read the 7m deal a few days ago I didn't believe it, but now his agent has said the same thing so it must be true, don't no what the club is thinking. Another thing that I've noticed is that any transfers we've made over say 10m have come through player sales and that money being reinvested. Seems we have real trouble getting funds together otherwise.

Agree1 Disagree1

Lets hope they haggle up as needed - good player

Agree0 Disagree1

Salad deal? Sounds like a feta-compli! Reckon we should have gone for Seamus Coleslaw or Chicory Flores, or maybe that Romaine-ian. (Sorry, this is just the tip of the Iceberg.)

Agree1 Disagree1

The £7m figure was the figment of some London journalists imagination mate, ignore prices you read in the press.

Agree1 Disagree0

Wasnt people on here complaining that we never spent silly money on eriksen, now at Tottenham. Look where that would have got us. I know he will come good cause class is permanent, but we need players who will push for starting places and make us better straight away not just come to get used to style ready for next season which I think will be the situation with salah. But would like to be wrong on this

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope there is some nice Steak with that Salad?

Although info a couple of weeks old, was told that we still hold a strong interest in taking Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea. Wondering if any of the Eds have heard anything. If there is interest do you think he would be an improvement to what we already have?

Thanks.

Believable6 Unbelievable12

{Ed001's Note - we did enquire, but so far that is as far as it has gone. I do think he would be better there than shoving Agger out at left back, probably an improvement on our other options too, though he needs a run of games to really be sure.}

31 Dec 2013 14:16:33
Are we still in for Andre Ayew? I know we enquired for him in the summer and he's injured right now, but he's the perfect player for us on his day

any news on alonso? could we be in for him?

Believable10 Unbelievable34

Maybe it's just me but though I am fairly sure we won't get Alonso even if we were interested, I can't help thinking do we really want to revisit a previous player or find someone young and exciting to build from that position?

I thought Alonso was great for us and a truly brilliant player, but IMO past his best possibly and not convinced he would be a great answer for us anyway now.

I think what we really need is the patrick Veira or Yaya toure type who has strength and ability and is able to muscle out stronger teams.

I also rate Lucas highly for us but I see him as much more a defensive midfielder that harries and tackles and plays the simple balls not quite the same as a toure like figure

Anyway, I may be way off but for me would rather see a younger talent play that role that seeing Alonso back, not that it will happen anyway

Agree1 Disagree1

For me Alonso would be the perfect signing for us. Its still possible he could join, but he has been offered more money to move to London. ( I personally see him staying in Madrid and moving to LA in the summer) i'd love him for at least the next 18 months, Jordan Rossiter would learn so much and probably be ready to step up by then, have another season rotating with Xabi. i'd give him a 30 month contract now. Well in 2 hours and 2 minutes :)

Eds,

Do you consider tello to be a viable option or do you feel salah is more viable?

Also what other players do you know that we have an interest in that could result in a bid during the window?

Thanks and hope you had a really good Christmas and New Year.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - Salah is more viable, leaving Barca, even when only a sub there, reduces your chances of a Spain place.}

Surely playing a regular role and shining at Liverpool would be better for his international prospects than playing a bit part role at barca and likely getting overlooked for want of game time. If I were tello I'd take the offer in a blink

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - not when you are Spanish it isn't. They only seem to think Madrid and Barca exist.}

Why who is good enough out side of barca or real I can only think of Silva mata thaigo navas all 3 will be in the squad??? Maybe I just can't think of anyone else because there not in the squad

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Negredo, Villa off the top of my head and there are more in the other teams that will never get a look in because of who they play for. Atletico and Bilbao have had some fantastic players over the years that struggled to get Spanish recognition because they didn't play for Real Madrid or Barcelona. Xabi Alonso was never going to get into the Spanish side regularly while at Sociedad, even playing for us he was in and out of the team and had to go to Real Madrid to make a place his own.}

True true

Agree0 Disagree0

Pepe Reina always got in Spain squad when he played for us

Agree0 Disagree1

Pepe was there for his sense of humour and team leader qualities, he was never going to play in important games.

Eds do you see it possible or likely for us to sign both Salah and Tello? Or more likely just the one winger?

Also out of Rakitic and Hughes who do you see as being more likely?

Believable3 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - more likely one. Hughes is more likely in Jan, if either join then.}

Would the likelihoods of Rakitic and Hughes joining in January be zilch and slightly above zilch respectively?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - slightly above zilch and ever so slightly above slightly above zilch respectively, I would say.}

Hughes wouldn't play now to young yeno

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair enough, I thought as much. Cheers.

Ed002 I saw u say that we have enquired about tello. DO u think that would be as well as salah or an alternative? Also is there an update on midfielders that we might be interested in? thanks

Believable7 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - I think it will be a case of keeping options open. There remains interest in Hughes.}

31 Dec 2013 05:21:35
Hello eds and fellow Reds. Are Liverpool interested in Diame or he is not good enough? I think he would be a decent addition. On another note a pschcic prophet in Zimbabwe has predicted LFC to clinch the title. He has predicted quite a number of results correctly.

Believable7 Unbelievable21

{Ed002's Note - There is no interest from Liverpool that I am aware of.}

01 Jan 2014 14:54:14
Yh I heard about this guy, he also predicted tight man u to win the title, chelseas 2-1 fa cup win and the date of Mandelas death. let's up he is right again. YNWA

Hi eds,
I was just wondering whether anyone has enquired about Jackson Martinez and Quintero both of fc Porto? Also is there or has there been any interest from Liverpool? Two very good promising players? Thanks in advance hope to hear back soon!

Believable3 Unbelievable9

{Ed002's Note - There has been interest from elsewhere, but not LIverpol.}

I hope so mate.

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Basel winger Mohamed Salah when the transfer window reopens.

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers insisted on Sunday that no arrivals were imminent, but Sport-Express.ru. claims that the Anfield club have secured the 21-year-old Egyptian on a four-year contract.
