What press?

Its on the Echo site and appears to have come from Marca.

Given that Marca ran the interview with Salah earlier in the week, its clear what they are trying to intimate!

However, I would be very pleased with Depay on a free. Entering his prime, very pacey and can operate on the wing or through the middle - what's not to like (other than 2 years being misused by them boys at Old Trafford)

A free? Is he really out of contract in the summer? Surprised koemen doesn’t go for him if he is.

Not actually bothered that he played for United and failed to make it for them, Peter Beardsley was on their books and didn’t make it and he was brilliant for us.

@jordz, I think Barcelona is his most likely destination, but he may be swayed by Klopp (if we're in for him, of course, and this isn't just idle press speculation)

What are your thoughts on delay eds? Likely to happen?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Memphis Depay (F) the chances of him agreeing an extension are dwindling and offers are being considered. Interest from Barcelona remains after coming very close to signing him last summer. Juventus, the Milanese sides (who I would discount)and PSG all have declared an interest. May get his desired move to Juventus to replace Ronaldo if they decide to sell this summer or Morata if the option is not taken up - but PSG may just look to Depay if they cannot add their preferred option. The player has said he would also welcome a move to Barcelona. Comes with baggage which could prove disruptive. I am not aware of any approach by Liverpool but he is available as a Free Agent.}

He was supposed to sign a few years back when untied were trying to sign Firmino. We got the best of the bargain at that time.

I don't see Klopp having the stomach for Depay but who knows at this point.

01 Apr 2021 13:23:06
I rate him, didn’t realise he’d only just turned 30, I thought he was nailed on for Barca? I think he’d be a success here and can play across the frontline.
His career path would be quite similar to Salah although as has been said he’s known to have been a nob at times and it seems that his failings at Utd sit firmly on his own shoulders.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed077's Note - I think you will find Depay only just turned 27,not 30. I dont think you can blame his failings at Man Utd just at him. He didnt help his cause but we didnt manage the situation correctly either.}

01 Apr 2021 14:44:52
Sorry I meant he’s only just turned 27 and I had in my head he was around 30.
I believe he was a bit of a Billy big balls at Utd and thought he’d made it on joining the club and wasn’t willing to knuckle down, graft and become better. I can remember a few stories coming direct from ex team mates.
As I say, I’d take him, it looks like he’s matured now and improved as a player.

Let's hope we miss out on Memphis Depay.

Watch a fair bit of french football. decent player for lyon to be honest. if he's free Nd not wanting ridiculous wages I'd give him a go. But french football is hardly the best league in the world. Remember cisse banging them in for fun. Struggled for us.

Ed is Donyell Malen an attacking option we are looking at for the summer?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Donyell Malen (S/F) Arsenal want to resign the player to replace Lacazette - but it seems very unlikely he would want to return and Arsenal may well turn their attention to Patson Daka. Borussia Dortmund have him on their list of potential Sancho replacements. Milan are also keen on the player but finances are in a rough state and it may prove difficult. Juventus see Malen as an option to Memphis Depay who they have probably lost out on. He would make a fine replacement for Roberto Firmino at Liverpool but I am not aware of any approach to PSV at this time and the club has not spoken to Mino Riaola about him at this time - but he has been watched.}

Wow one I haven't heard of, interesting!

Talking of Sancho Ed - is he somebody that Liverpool may be in the market for or is he way too pricey?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Jadon Sancho (RW/F) The amateurs at Old Trafford knew the situation yet still wasted everyone’s time last summer. Reputationally, another disaster for them left the club looking at other options and not resolving the matter. His agent (and I use that in the very loosest of terms) has some extreme demands and has been trying, for the past year, to persuade Chelsea and Real Madrid to meet them. With Salah getting older there will be a push to look to Sancho as a replacement – but the cost of agent fees on top of the transfer fee may put the club off - else, I would not be surprised to see Liverpool looking to strike a deal for Sancho this summer but the on top fees are potentially huge, even if the transfer fee has dropped.}

“The amateurs at Old Trafford”, lovely stuff there Ed.

Think Malen just misses out on being home grown, would have been almost perfectif he was.

Ive been told Sabizer is our number 1 target should Gini leaves as is looking very likely.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 Mar 2021 08:03:14
Wouldn’t mind sabitzer, quite a nicely rounded player. More attacking than gini but I suppose it’s the role gini plays for us that limits the attacking aspect of his play.

Sabitzer has a good shot too, could comfortably play in a 10 role in a 4-2-3-1 so would give us the option to switch the formation up.

If he were to come surely one of ox or elite would have to leave as well. Keita + cash for Konate and sabitzer? Wouldn’t be a bad but if business imo.

Why would Leipzig who are chasing Bundesliga, are in Europe and probably one of the few clubs who are still well to do despite C.V. sell their two best players?
And if they do why would they do it for cheap?
Id expect they'd be looking for a lot of money and money straight up to let any of their good players go.

For me, Leipzig's two big players transfers have flattered to deceive.
Think we should look elsewhere from we have really bought some best players i. e. from the lower end of premier league.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - because their players only join to move to bigger and better clubs later. They are built around that system, hence the general tendency to use younger players that can be sold on. They sell players because forcing a player to stay rarely works out and just causes tension and issues within the squad. Then it becomes more difficult to convince the next youngsters to join as well.}

31 Mar 2021 10:45:15
While writing it i also thought the players might want to move. And i read somewhere leipzig is not a very well liked club in Germany.
But their last two big players keita and werner really haven't worked out as of yet so i am bit vary of konate and sabitzer rumours.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed077's Note - RBL aren't a popular club with the German fans because having big corporations and billionaire owners isn't the norm in Germany. Clubs generally operate with the 50+1 rule whereby most clubs are fan owned.

31 Mar 2021 11:12:49
Good versatile utility midfielder imo. Sabitzer would be a solid signing without breaking the bank. Konate, Sabitzer and a versatile forward (Raphinha, Thuram, Neto) and it will be a very good summer.

Oh yes i read that. Thanks ed i forgot what it was. Thanks.

Neto is the player I'd sign in the summer if we could.

31 Mar 2021 13:08:51
We infuriated RBL over Keita, and it feels like we could be going down that road again with Konate too. I can't imagine them being willing to work with us in good faith unless we're willing to overpay for Sabitzer. LFC aren't in the habit of paying what they view as a premium for a player.

I love Sabitzer though and have thought for years he'd be a great fit in our squad. I'd love to see us be able to work something out, just am unsure how realistic that is considering all this.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2021 17:42:19
I don't remember any issues over the Keita transfer, and I'm not sure how we could be going down the same road with Konate when all you can base that on is rumours and speculation.
Bit of a leap for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I suspect it was about multiple illegal approaches by Liverpool for Timo Werner.}

31 Mar 2021 18:26:34
I have heard we have a great relationship with them and that is how we knew about takis release clause. So to say we have a bad relationship isn't right according to what I have read. Of course I may be completely wrong lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Minamino wasn't an RBL player.}
