BeinSport claim Liverpool are close to signing Real Betis’ Algerian centre half, Aissa Mandi. Only “minor details” need to be ironed out to complete the deal
Any truth in this?

Can see this one happening. Fee of around 10 million. Decent business for a player that will likely be 4th choice.
Haven’t seen much of him so can’t say whether or not he’ll be a good signing.

I read the same, earlier in the day that we bid £9m but Betis want £10m for him. I know very little about him other than that he can play all across the back four.
Betis conceded 60 goals this season (the second most in La Liga) but I guess he's only one piece of that defensive unit.

I have only seen highlights. Looks much better for Algeria than he does for Betis. Certainly looks a decent 4th choice for £10m and apparently he can play both full back positions too.

Looks like its going to happen, he has 55 caps for his country, and can play all across the back four, so he could cover VVD, if needed,
not sure on Matip, heard about a big offer coming in for him, he is a great defender, but very injury prone, and we could use his transfer fee on another centre back,
money seems to be a problem, so selling Matip could give us more options, maybe Ben White, English and doesn't miss many games, he would be my shout .

That's probably 3 starters and and 4th/ 3rd choice C/ B missing.
White makes more sense from a H/ G point of view, obviously if we can ship out matip.
4 cb's we could probably be able to have.

Jamesred. The next AFCON is in January 2022. It was initially rearranged for January 2021 but it's been put forward again.
It's not something we should be worrying about right now.

Why would we use one of the quota of foreign players up for a 4th choice CB?
Lloyd Kelly and Carlos to replace Lovren and Matip would make the most sense.

I asked this yesterday OP and got told to RTFP mate. If you search there is an explanation that basically he could be an option. No idea if we have approached Betis or how much truth there only being minor details to iron out.
Imo I doubt we will sign him, he seems average at best in a poor Betis side but we will see I guess.

I would contend that Salah and Mane are going to be huge misses when they do go on AFCON duty in 21/ 22 as they score the bulk of our goals, so we do need to use the time between then and now to find suitable replacements or we will have a five/ six week period in the 21/ 22 season when goals will be hard to come by, but time is on our side to get Elliott and Minamino ready.

Just to confirm 6Times, it was originally planned for Jul 21, then in Jan 20 it was moved forward to start Jan 21 due to the weather in Cameroon in the summer.
Then on 30 Jun 20 it was pushed back to an unconfirmed date in 2022 - likely again to be Jan/ Feb 22.

Even though the Fat Kid From Bolton has said that Liverpool have some sort of pre-contract with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho to move next summer, it is quite simply a lie - like everything else he says. I approeciate that many Liverpool supporters hand on his every word but none of it is true. There are clubs other that Manchester United interested in Sancho but Liverpool is not one of them. He will not be moving to Liverpool.}
