Ed did suso get promoted to melwood again? someone said it on the official site's forums but I've been searching and no one else has said anything. is it true?

{editor: He and Sterling have now got 1st team numbers so I guess so.}

any chance we will see either of them on the bench against Chelsea?

{editor: I doubt against Chelsea, I wouldn't be shocking if one was on the bench in the Europa League though.}

Sorry if this has already been asked, but does one of the Eds or any other readers know if Suarez is taking, or is going to take lessons in English? I'm sure he will but I haven't heard anything about it yet.

{editor: I would think so yes.}

I read on "team liverpool" app that Pepe Riena is possibly looking to move on.

Rumours of Manure and Arsenal are "planning" a bid in the summer.

Any truth? or just to far away to assume at this moment.

Dan from Can

{editor: Riena won't be leaving anytime soon.}

1 member of the squad apparantly spoke to i think it was the daily mail about torres"s attitude do you know who it was {ed's note - I don't, I haven't looked at the Mail in years to even know what the story is mate sorry. I will see if I can find out, these kind of things are normally common knowledge.}

Just working backwards here, the players who have been here since Torres arrived are Agger, Skrtel (from jan), Stevie G, Carra, Reina, Lucas, Spearing, Kuyt and Fabio Aurelio.

Most likely not Carra, Stevie G or Reina, from the way the player speaks about them leaving 6 players - with a slim possibility of Babel (i stress the word 'slim').

So who do you think it is from the list of: Lucas, Spearing, Kuyt, Aurelio, Agger or Skrtel

We need to forget about Torres, We are like some Cleveland Cavaliers fans!
Lebron James left them last summer and they still slag him off, If you follow the NBA you will know what i mean.
It don't help lads, talk about our own player not others unless their linked with us ;)

And on a side note, I have a question ED, maybe a stupid one or a good point, some posters say Torres was approached last summer? Do you think he rejected the move knowing H & G would of taken the cash and paid the debt?
And now knowing there is now new owners willing to invest the money from transfers in players he decided he would go now knowing the club would spend it, he gets "his dream move" (yea right) and we get money to spend on players who appreciate that liverbird on the shirt? ?

Corkpoolred! {ed's note - no, it was not for the club's benefit in any way, it was because he was given promises that he would get what he wanted.}

I see Torres is still filling up this page. I'd rather have Carroll and Suarez to be honest. Let it go folks

I quite agree = good deal - forget about Torres we have a far superior strike force now.

I know one thing thought the turd was an honourable man till friday. then he shows his true colours. he didn't love the kop it traditions. we stuck by him but he screwed us big time. only man i will trust is king kenny.
and if masch had any bxxxs he wouldve stayed instead he sat on bench sucking off messi. sorry for the language but i just hate mercs like them.

My guess is Kuyt - it is someone who has been there since before Torres arrived, get's on with Stevie and Jamie (and they would like him for the effort he gives), and he has never appeared to be close to Torres (in the way Stevie used to be when things were rosey). LIVERPRES

January may not be a good time to buy. NESV now have plenty of time to negotiate the signing of quality Left Back, Right Winger and Left Winger. LFC had long negotiations over the transfer of Suarez (to keep the price down) and probably as a result ran out of time. Then we paid over the odds for Carroll - I am very happy to have him - in a desperate/ panic scenario. Otherwise it would have been a PR disaster for NESV to have just swapped the chelsea new boy for Suarez and kept the change. Exciting times ahead and hopefully further strengthening of the sqad in the Summer!

What we all need to realise (mainly those saying FSG have only spent a small amount etc) is that money didn't matter. Carroll passed his medical and signed for us BEFORE Torres passed his medical. It would not have been a great surprise had Torres failed his medical, all things considered. We would still have had Carroll and Suarez and Torres would have been warming the bench, watching two players who wanted to play for the team doing just that.

Fair enough Torres left, we can all accept that. If it would have been to Barca, Madrid, Inter, AC . . . We would all of course be sad to see him go, wishing him luck and thanking him for what he done for our club, he would have got a heros welcome when he returned.

The fact of the matter is he thought he was bigger than us, and NO ONE is bigger than Liverpool Football Club. He said was it 1 - 2 months ago something along the lines of 'Dont worry i am under contract with Liverpool until 2013, i intent to honour my contract, i would not move to another premier league club as i have too much respect for Liverpool and the Liverpool fans.

A month or so later he hands in a transfer request and moves to Chelsea, exactly the opposite of what he said he wouldn't do. Then he comes out saying 'i have moved on and up, there is no one bigger than Chelsea, i have always liked Chelsea and im happy to be here, if i am called upon to play against Liverpool and i score i will be happy'

Thats just rubbing it in our faces, even when he has been playing so bad this season we have still been standing there (or well jumping) singing and supporting him, idolising him and he throws it back at us with no commitment, no desire to try, half hearted performances and then a transfer request.

Now on his return to Anfield he will not have a heros welcome, quite the opposite i think.

To Chris Bower,

I can accept not having Torres IS a loss. I can accept he only stayed as long as he did because the previous owners fed him falsehoods and lies. However, I can't accept how he has conducted himself post NESV's arrival. If he was anywhere near as decent & loyal as we all (wrongly as it turned out) believed, why didn't he put the effort in this season? And WHY did he not give the new owners a chance to prove to him that the future is as bright and the turnaround in success is every bit as tangible as it has been for the Redsox under John Henrys stewardship? We can continue to doubt and second guess the intentions of our new owners, or we can do what LFC is all about and support them. It's been a long time since I've been so excited at the prospect of every upcoming tie and I'm nearly 40. To look back over the last year and see how far we've come is so inspiring. What's more, we seem to actually have a voice (new fans commitee, even sites like this being looked at by Fenway/ NESV). I believe we will spend big again in the summer. I believe we will win the league again within 3 years, and the icing on the cake is that we play exciting football. Torres doesn't deserve any more of our time, it's counterproductive and again that isn't what we should be about.
P.S. Great site Ed's, sorry for harping on but I don't feel compelled to post often.

Sorry but i never read any further than this, you miss the point, people are not unhappy that he left we are unhappy at HOW he left, it was disrespectful and his attutude since leaving and the statements he's since made have been shocking. Look at Babel, he was not loved and adored like Torres was but has been great and spoken fondly of Liverpool and the fans and has shown he has much more class than that Spanish fool!

So in summary, its been a political & PR masterclass by LFC with Torres the villan in the fan's eyes. I love KK but I'm not happy by the club's portrayal of Torres. He isn't to the blame for this sorry saga - the Club is.

Torres is the only player who did not try his best all season long. Then he turns around and leaves without even acknowlodging the fans on his last game. The club committed to him by paying his huge wages and he did nothing to earn them all season. I loved the Torres of seasons 1, 2 and 3. But the sulky player of this season was a disgrace. I don't care what he thought he was promised, but he acted like a gutless, spineless punk. And by the way, Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Essien and Chech are the heart and soul of Chelsea and all of them are at the wrong ends of their careers. So, why did he join them? Man City, Arsenal, United (maybe), Spurs and Barcelona have all brighter futurs.

This will annoy many LFC fans but Masch has a point. As an ardent LFC fan who was gutted to see him leave, I am annoyed about the subsequent vilification of Torres and this is why:- Torres wanted to leave last summer having not qualified for the CL and with Rafa on his way out, the club up for sale and some of our best players sold in recent years (Alonso, Arbeloa, Masch, his mate Benayoun) can any of us hand on heart blame the lad for feeling disillusioned and wanting out of a mid-table selling club in crisis? - LFC didn't want to sell him last summer because they knew it would devalue a club about to be sold. So Torres was fed more lies by Purslow about investment in the club, new players etc & loyally agreed to stay (when it would have been easier to go) only to see average players like Jovanovic, Poulsen and Konchesky arrive under a manager in RH that was out of his depth and with the club languising in the bottom half. - I hear on very good authority that Torres didn't want to leave his departure until the end of the transfer window but LFC stopped it going public sooner and hushed everyone up because they thought it would push the price of Suarez up (ie LFC have known about Torres departure for weeks now). What riles me is that the Club have come out of it smelling of roses with the fans with talk of big investment, statements of intent etc etc. Fact remains theyve invested a net £0 and simply cashed in on a player they themselves disillusioned over several years. Am I the only person to question why the owners were reluctant to spend anything when the Torres pot had run dry (ie no Adam, no much needed winger or defender) so where is the evidence that Torres has made the wrong decision? So in summary, its been a political & PR masterclass by LFC with Torres the villan in the fan's eyes. I love KK but I'm not happy by the club's portrayal of Torres. a load of rubbish!

Suarez was coming regardless of the sale of Torres. As far as I am concerned, that was a net spend of £22m. You may think it's a "political & PR masterclass" but come the summer, if £50m is not spent, questions will be asked as to where the Torres money went. .Or at least the change from the Carroll acquisition.

Torres could have handed his transfer request at any time. LFC couldn't stop him going public. He could have acted professionally during the first half of the season and bothered to put performances in rather than sulk in front of those that paid him his millions.

Also, Eden Hazard has said he would like to play for a top club where h would be a regular starter. Well we are a top club and he would certainly be in the starting

i don't rate eden hazard hes to flimsy an light weight an don't think he could handle the prem, sanchez on the other hand in my opinion is the best right winger on the planet i'd pay 40m if it guaranteed us gettin him the boy is sheer class

what dya think ed ? {ed's note - strange how you see lightweight as a problem for Hazard but not Sanchez who is probably lighter. Excellent player though Sanchez.}

Please please please do not go for marko marin! . .he's is not good enough! sanchez, hazard, turan, adam johnson or even ashley young r a must this summer!

03 Feb 2011 21:01:52
To chris bower - mate you are TOTALLY missing the point, the point being torres made the request with a couple of days to go and leaving us with no time to replace him, he had also previously stated that he would remain until the summer maybe giving kk time to change his mind. he clearly had his head turned by chelski and all the money(and being tapped up) so it is the fact he f***ed us over so quckly and cheaply that has pissed everyone off, am i not right ed?

03 Feb 2011 20:58:27
Have you thought about supporting another club? We now have two quality strikers who want to play for Liverpool. By your own admission he wanted to leave earlier so why should we now support him?

Yes there are points there but let's be plain on this OUR FANS did nothing but treat Torres well, make excuses for form etc which performances especially for the individual is HIS responsibility. Players are here to play full stop. The fans didn't deserve his comments end of and Mascherano has no need to comment. We are better off without both.

Spanish or Spanish speakers = Suarez; Maxi; Pacheco; Suso; Ayala plus several coaches. . . but it's probably a pointless discussion anyway! Does Kuyt want to leave because he's the only Dutchman left, now that Babel and Brouwer have gone? What about Kyrgiakos being the only Greek, or Skrtel the only Slovakian? I really don't see it being much different for a Spaniard and particularly one so comfortable using the English language. They are all grown up professional footballers and whilst fellow countrymen can always assist in attracting a player to a new club and help them to settle in, it is rarely a reason for them wanting to leave! If Reina does want out it, his motives will be very different.

kuyt will be ok saurez fluent in dutch just needs to learn to speak english

This is not meant as an assault on anyone on this site as I think you do yoemans work. What I would like to know is, what happened to the Liverpool way? There were no surprises until Torres/ Carroll. We knew about Suarez and Adam. Were there potential surprises that did not happen for whatever reason? {ed's note - there were, such as the move for Micah Richards, who knew about that in advance?}

Ed is it true that the money fr carroll was out of the owners pocket? i thought they paid just to cover it til the torres 50 came in? but im readin now that the torres 50 is ALL going into summer transfers! i know we face competition for hazard, but despite what other teams argue, (and torres), liverpool is a big club, and dalglish commands respect in the football world. i think we have a solid chance of signing him, especially since were on the up! also , would love to see honda signed! and maybe van der wiel for right back? i would sell agger and skrtl and try to sign per mertesacker? please post as id like your views ed aaswell as others! {ed's note - the money for Torres will be there to spend in the summer.}

03 Feb 2011 20:43:10
Arite, just thought i'd update people on the Torres scenario. Him and Benayoun held talks with Chelsea in the summer (100% true source). They both said there goodbye's but we couldn't get hold of a replacement in time so Torres was convinced to stay at least for another season. Gerrard and Carragher were not happy at all which they will tell you if you speak to them at melwood. Carragher has just had an interview uploaded on talksport which confirms my information, i recommend listening to it. Also Mascherano said the club didn't convince them enough to stay but in real fact they both wanted out the season before.

Looking towards the future, Joe Cole is injured (AGAIN) and will be out for two weeks even though we don't need him anyway. Seriously bad decision by the board, Yossi Benayoun offered alot more. Also Joe Cole will be gone in the summer as Daglish knows he only came for the money [90k a week {ed's note - if he only came for the money why didn't he choose Spurs who were offering more?}

03 Feb 2011 20:40:49
I am going to stick my head on the line and back Dalglish to get the job after the summer. Also Jamie Carragheris 6/ 1 to be the first to foul Torres on Sunday. . If he hasnt split a hair and isn't fit to play. .

03 Feb 2011 20:11:15
Just wondering, did i miss it but doesn't Liverpool usually thank and wish good luck to players that have recently left. Not seen anything mentioned about Torres!

Can we read anything into this?

Editor just a quick one for you. . . . .

I know everyone loves Dalglish (And I do too) and I believe he is the perfect manager for Liverpool a legend and is secure enough in his own mind.Confident in his abilitys something I believe Rafa wasnt I think he was slightly insecure.
But I don't think enough credit has gone to Steve Clarke for the way Liverpool have been performing I mean it would be lovely to think its all Dalglish but I believe the coaching of our team has improved greatly since he arrived what do you think.

RED WILLY

{Editor's Note: Steve Clarke is an excellent coach in his own right, and an excellent communicator. Perhaps when he has had time to settle at Anfield and found the coffee machine etc., he might be considered for the role on a full-time basis.}

If we can sign these two lads, both our flanks will be sorted for the next decade or so. They would be quality additions to our squad.

I would love Hazard but let's get a reality check. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manure and Real will be leading the chase for this supreme talent. Try for him by all means but more realistic targets would be Turan and Honda. Would also like to see us go for Pjanic, who is quality and Lovren who is a brilliant centre half

Ive been watching eden hazard on youtube which i know isn't the best place to assess players but i think he is going to be world class and is the next bright talent coming through , everybody is interested from liverpool , chelsea , arsenal , real madrid. i personally think we have a good chance of getting him , comolli rates him highly and his french connections could give us an advantage , also eden hazard quoted as saying this:

"Recently, the press have been writing about interest from Liverpool, and it is nice to hear your name being mentioned everywhere, especially with the best teams in the world.

"If I do leave at the end of the season, I don't want to go somewhere I will be on the bench, and it will be difficult to break through in a team like Real, where Ronaldo and Kaka will be my competitors.

As you can see he is already a fan of liverpool , and he himself has ruled out real madrid.

REASONS WHY HE MIGHT JOIN US:

1: He would start on our right wing every week
2: the influence of kenny dalglish could be a big factor in his decision ( if kenny stays)
3:comolli can speak with his french connections and give us an advantage
4: the owners will back us if we want one of the brightest young talents in the world , even if it is (£20m-£25m)
5: if we can win europa league he will see we are capable of winning trophys

at arsenal they are packed with attacking midfielders ( nasri , walcott , rosicky , diaby , arshavin ) wheres room for hazard? also with chelsea they have malouda anelka drogba torres kalou sturridge , all attacking players. the only difference is they will probably offer champions league football and we wont.

Ed i would appreciate your opinion on this one , do you think we have a chance?

i know he prefers arsenal but i think if we go in for him were in with a good chance , my only concern is that theres two wingers who we are guranteed to make a move for ashely young and arda turan , i want turan but not AY , would prefer eden hazard any day ! {ed's note - I don't know enough about the lad to make a really informed judgement, but I doubt he would reject a club on the up that would give him a chance to play every week.}

Cheers mate on AGGER info. Love the player.Ed, if you were to put monry on it what winger wil we sign?

{Editor Note: If I was a betting man I'd put my money on Ashley Young. We tried to sign him in January and in the Summer I think he only has a year left on his deal, so I think he'll cost less.}

Liverpool have targeted Eden Hazard, and Ashley Young for either wing for in the summer. Liverpool pursued both players in the last transfer window but were told they have no chance of signing these players at that present moment.

Liverpool also made an enquiry for Ajax's Nicolas Lodeiro who was once a Benitez target. He was not for sale though, as they had already lost Suarez they didn't want to weaken the team further.

The full £50 mil from Torres sale will be made available in the summer, plus any other player sales. The Carroll and Suarez funded by the owners. Exciting times ahead for Liverpool.

Q: When Yossi travelled down to have talks with Chelsea in the summer, who was in the car with him?
A: It was Fernando Torres

And I am led to believe Torres discussed personal terms then? someone could back me up or correct me if I am wrong ?ya you are wrong its a stupid rumour cos torres was in spain with his wc team mates so stop posting crap and talk the truth

{editor: Torres had an extended break so he was not in talks with Chelsea at the same time as Yossi.}Didnt Yossi hold talks with Chelski before the end of the season? I remember reading that he signed before Benitez left and it was too late to change his mind. If I remeber correctly it was around late April early May he held those talks. Rafa didn't want him so he was allowed.

03 Feb 2011 02:14:58 Liverpool Rumours Seen some reports we are interested in Marko Marin.

The club showed interest in him on several occasions during the Benitez years - and very intensely for a few months around 2 years ago. That seems to have rapidly dropped down now to just an 'overwatch in general' situation since Benitez left.

I'm wonder that if our worst nightmare came true and the league came to a two way shoot out between The Scum and Chelski who would our fans like to win it ?

The dilemma we have is that if The Scum win it they'll hold the record for league titles (althought it will only be for one season ;-) ) or if Chelski win it The Traitor will think he has being proved right by leaving us (although he'll realise that he was very wrong next season)

I'd personally say Chelski cause I know that The Traitors smugness would last for long. Fingers crossed that neither of them win it

Keep up the great work lads.

Summer targets? Where do we need strengthening?
Left Back- Is Glen J doing well enough to keep him there? If not I'd like to see us really push to get Taiwo on a Bosman.
Poulsen- needs upgrade. Although not classically a defensive mid, I'd like to see us get Marveaux on a Bosman
Centre backs- assuming Kelly stays at right (wing) back and we keep 3 at the back, I'd like to see us bid for Cahill as Soto and Carra can't last forever
Cole- clearly no future under Kenny, replace with Honda.
Pacheco in to the squad.
OUT- Poulsen, Cole, Maxi, Jovanovic, soto
IN- Taiwo, Marveaux, Honda, Cahill

03 Feb 2011 13:31:16
My thoughts on a summer clear-out, I've listed who I'll think will go and in rough order of the need to get them out:-
Konchesky - 2m
J Cole - 4m
Jovanovic - 3m
Poulsen - 3m
Aquilani - 12m
Darby - 1m
Irwin - 1m
Bruna - 500k
Degen - 1m
El Zhar - 1m
Insua - 2.5m
Mendy - 250k
Saric - 500k
Johnson - 10m
Agger - 8m
Skrtel - 8m

This would give us roughly £52m to invest in new players, and reduce the wage bill massivley.

I reckon we need a CH, LB, CM and a Left forward, as well as cover at RB. If we can get these postions filled with genuine class players, then we will be challenging for the title next year.

My preference for each need is Subotic, Gibbs, Banga/ Lass Diarra, Turan and Onouha

Answering the question about Torres attitude covered by the Daily Mail it was Aldo that had a go at him on behalf of the fans now that's what you call a loyal striker! !

Liverpool: Hi lads, how much for Carroll?

Newcastle: 35 million, lol j. .

Liverpool: Done.

I will see if I can find out, these kind of things are normally common knowledge.}

I think this is the story you have mentioned. I google it and found the story
I have cut and paste this from the website

Liverpool plays describes Fernando Torres efforts this season as laughable
Now a Liverpool player, whose identity hasn't been revealed, has added his voice to the ones that are slamming the Spanish striker's behaviour.

"His efforts for the team this season under Roy Hodgson made everyone notice [that he wants to quit Anfield], " the unnamed player told the Daily Mail.

"On the pitch, he would definitely play for himself rather than for the team. Even the real pros like Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher noticed that.

"But, when Torres is in top form, you would forgive him for anything. He has always been a complex character. He is so naturally gifted that he has always been totally self-absorbed.

"For the first year, we would put his quietness down to lack of fluent English. But then, he would come with some perfect words - which made you realize that he understood what was going on all the time!

"He's always been admired by his team mates - but not loved. He hasn't endeared himself in the way that Pepe Reina has, for example."

03 Feb 2011 13:11:55
Hey ed is it rite torres and carra fell out wen we played at goodison god torres must of caused alot of trouble {ed's note - I am not sure about that specific one, but I would be very surprised if they hadn't fallen out then as well.}

03 Feb 2011 13:11:30
"Dont want to put a dampner on things guys but i saw a few shots of our legend pepe reina at tonights game and he didn't look happy at all."

He had nothing to do all night, but certainly does his duty when called upon though. That one-handed save after Suarez made it 2-0 was fantastic. And he scooped up the rebound like he was on the training ground. He has a calmness about him and the ability to start a fast break that is something to behold and admire.

I expect him to stay, I think he was frustrated with Roy and the state of things like all of us were, and don't think his frustration level is that of the girly boy mercenary.

Ed
A few thought on the last 30 days:
1. We are undoubtedly finally have the right manager. Pass and move is coming back. Everything he says and does reeks quality and inspires the fans and players.
2. Kelly and Shelvey are being well and truly blooded by Kenny.
3. Players are being played in their natural position (save for G Johnson who is being asked to do a short term job for the team). Just look how Raul is thriving.
4. Carroll and Suarez replacing Torres who has clearly not been committed to our cause for quite a while will represent a huge improvement at no extra cost and adds more depth to the squad.
5. Suarez looks to have it all including a willingness to sweat and chase down when necessary (a la Rush).
6. Carroll has huge potential. He already frightens the life out of opposing defenders. As he matures further he will be unplayable.
7. Its the perfect time for Carroll and Suarez to join. They will have the rest of the season to bed in.
8. We have the best set of youngsters in a generation including Kelly, Suso, Sterling, Coady, Robinson - thank you Rafa for giving us Rodolfo and revamping the youth set up. We also continue to purchase gifted youngsters
9. We have no debt.
10. Kenny will have at least £60m to spend in the summer (the transfer window showed the owners were willing to spend £30m plus add to this monies from the sale of Aquilani, Insua, konchesky and the fact that our profits are no longer being used to service H & G's debt).

I have no doubt that Kenny will use his summer funds to buy 2-3 quality players for those key positions that need strengthening rather than half a dozen mediocre player in quantity. By the beginning of next season we will have a formidable squad. In my opinion Torres has defected for what will be no more than 6 months of benefit. By next season we really will be contenders and will be doing it the Liverpool way, with elegance, style and teamwork.

People are talking as if there are only two options regarding Aquilani; Juve buy him or we take him back in to the squad. If Juve don't stump up enough cash then we'll just put him up for sale on the open market. His performances in Italy have restored his reputation and he will be much in demand. It'll probably convince Juve to stop quibbling and pay up though. He's too soft for the EPL so I can't see KK wanting him here

Ed do you have any info on how the rest of the squad reacted towards torres when he handed his transfer request in? and also i heard from sum1 whos a lfc season ticket holder that torres hade it clear he wanted his own physio at the club? {ed's note - to be honest he had made himself unpopular with his attitude, the feeling I get now is relief he is gone. There was certainly no surprise when it happened. You know you must be a pain when a bunch of primadonna footballers describe you as a primadonna!}

03 Feb 2011 11:53:38
I agree with what Mark Wright said on LFC TV last night. . .I would fear for Kuyt's long term future at LFC (unless he was happy with a super-sub role). . . I think our main targets will be a world class wide left and a top left back. . .I think G Johnson's future is at wide right, and I can't see a future for Cole either. . . . I would love to see Hazard but really can't see anyone but Arsenal get him. . . Likewise, I think Lukaku is only bound for Chelsea. . . .I think we might add to the strike force, but our main work here is done ( ie we will not be spending 'Carroll sums' on a striker - though maybe elsewhere on the pitch. . . . therefore I would be delighted with Mata, Toivenen and maybe Coentrao. . . .we only spent circa 3m net in Jan. so we have NESV investment + sales (already 12 and 3 for Aquilani and Insua), so I can't see us being out bid ( unless of course it involves silly bids). . .

. . . . . . . .Reina. . . . . . . . .
Kelly. . Skr. . . . .Agger. . . Coentrao
. . . . Gerrard. . . . . .Meir. . . . . . .
Johnson. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Mata
. . . . .Suarez. . . .Carroll. . . . . . . .

+Toivenen, Carra, Shelv, Pacheco, Wilson, Lukas, Kuyt?, Adam?, another CB?. . .

Thoughts?

I'v heard alot of rumours that Lucas is likely to leave in the summer and i for one hope not. Last night i was watching him quite closely and can only remember him misplacing one pass, he held his position and was always offering himself to get involved in the play. he has got alot of stick in the past but i think he's really maturing and is turning into a quality player.

Ed have you heard anything about him leaving and what do you think to him as a player, also do you think there will be investment in the summer in the squad although it was good to see how quickly the owners reacted to the torres situation there hasn't yet been any actual investment just put the money we made on Torres and Babel back in? {ed's note - I think this rumour has started purely because we went for Adam, not with any real basis. Gerrard is not a young lad any more, I wouldn't expect Lucas to go unless two central midfielders are brought in as he is needed as cover. I think Poulsen and Spearing will be out of the door long before Lucas.}

Ed, surely there is no way barring a catastrophic end to the season that NES can replace Kenny in the summer? The man in only a short space of time has unified what was once a fractured club. There is no doubting the man possesses some sort of magical qualities, but more importantly gets what it means to manage and play for Liverpool.

Morning, folks!
Fantastic result last night.Didn't watch the game, but by all accounts, it was some joy to behold.
Made up for Luis.It doesn't get any better than scoring for LFC at the Kop end on your debut. Brilliant stuff!

Compliments are also in order for Raul. Always knew he was a top player and would be a major "star" for us. I reckon if it hadn't been for Hodgson's "35 year's worth of wisdom", Raul would be on round about 10/ 12 goals now. A top pro proven at international level with Portugal, his will be a massive contribution to our quest for glory.

Lastly, a question to ed/ Macca. Was it the real Macca that posted about us being "close to signing Benzema" for the summer? If so, could Macca or you ed tell us a little more about that. He'd be a terrific addition, provided of course he burns a couple of kilos.
A forward line of Suarez, Pacheco, Carroll and Benzema is as formidable as it gets. The strength in depth would be mouth-watering.

=Silver Song=

{editor: What I can understand is that Mourinho doesn't want him. The only thing is, is that Jose may not be at Real Madrid for much longer. I know Comolli is a big fan of his.}

03 Feb 2011 02:55:13
I think for summer we can start by looking at who we were still bidding on in this window. By all accounts we were trying hard to get Ashley Young. Which seems to me like Kenny wants a pacey player to put up front with Carroll and Suarez. I think not getting Young could be a blessing though as there should be better players availible in the summer. We also were obviously going after Charlie Adam which to me means Kenny wants another creative midfielder to put in a triangle with Gerrard and Meireles. So Id expect a bid for Adam or another player like him in the summer.

This is why I think its funny when people post lineups in a 4-4-2. We werent bidding on Adam to not play him and we certainly aren't going to not play Gerrard or Meireles. Kenny wants to play a 3 man midfield.
