Afternoon Eds - I was just wondering whether someone could shed a bit of light on the Delli Ali debacle. I was under the impression that an agreement had been made in principle with MK Dons during the summer. Apart from Hendo, we have no box to box midfielder, we now effectively have 4DM's in Lucas, Can, Allen and Rossiter emerging, 2 creative mids in phil and Lallana and 1 box to box in Hendo. This guys a red, his heros Gerrard, he's 18, undoubted quality and at £5 mill surely ticks the transfer policy criteria. Is the lack of activity a clear indication that Ted and the committee can no longer be entrusted with a cheque book? Or does any activity moving forward hinge on shifting Borini, Balotelli, Alberto, Aspas, Coates, Enrique, Lambert and Allen?

{Ed002's Note - There was no agreement in the summer but there was interest from Liverpool. And no offer was made. This past couple of weeks MK Dons and Newcastle agreed the sale of the player with a loan back to the end of the season. At some subsequent point before contracts were signed, the player opted out of this - thereby opening the door for a move elsewhere.

The summer will see much depend on the sale of players - and they may decide to sell some before the end of June to improve how the accounts (FFP) look for this season. Liverpool cannot afford to abuse FFP any longer.}

Allen isn't a defensive midfielder, he can't tackle for starters, not actually sure what his actual role is?

Can and Hendo are box to box midfielders, Lucas is a defensive midfielder and Allen is [supposed to be] a playmaker.

In my opinion we should sell Allen and replace him with someone who brings more to the table. Someone who can do more than just "recycle possession". Schneiderlin for me, brings defensive qualities and ability on the ball and could either play centre midfield or defensive midfield.

Henderson, Can, Schneiderlin, Lucas and Rossiter would be a sufficient number of players competing for 2 places.

Please excuse my ignorance but who is or what is Ed? I've seen it used frequently by posters. Thanks

sorry ed2 i'm referring to the above post by Ozone. "Is the lack of activity a clear indication that Ted and the committee can no longer be entrusted with a cheque book?"
Thanks

{Ed002's Note - He is referring to The Nose.}

We already need a DM by the looks of it. If we're selling Allen, then i'd leave that spot for the youngsters instead of going for a new one.

Liverpool are not ignoring the FFP as Ed002 says. They are well within the rules.

{Ed001's Note - no they are not, you are quite simply wrong.}

Eds, don't shoot me down in flames but it is strange how yesterday's events seem to have increased the chances of Ings arriving at Anfield in the summer .

Consider this. Rodgers knows Dyche extremely well from their time at Watford. If Ings moves to Sociedad or any foreign club, Burnley get buttons, if he moves to LFC or any English club, Burnley get £4/5 million in compensation.

The player is said to be desperate to move to Anfield, there is even talk of a deal being struck in the next week so that the player can concentrate on playing for Burnley until the summer. Such a deal would not breach Premier League rules . Interesting !

Believable9 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Firstly it is nothing to do with Watford. Secondly, Rodgers does not have any involvement with negotiations for transfers. Liverpool cannot speak directly with the player without the permission of his club. As of June 1 or whenever he is released from his contract (typically at the end of the season) then Liverpool can talk with the player. It is clear that the player wants to move to Anfield in the summer, and if Liverpool want the player then I am sure agreement can be reached.}

Ed002 then can you explain why Tony Barrett is writing that this is exactly what LFC are trying to do

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea who Tony Barrett is or what he is saying.

If he is suggesting that Rodgers is striking some sort of deal by talking to the player with the complicity of Dyche then it will be a tapping up charge for the club - and with charges to Burley as well.}

Ed, I read an article on this whole situation likening the move to Smallings move to Man Utd, quoting a rule u8. Can you shed any more light?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Smalling's transfer happened during the transfer window. Perhaps Liverpool are stupid enough to believe the regulations from five years ago or so apply then they are in for a shock. You all seem to be pretty sure that this Barrett chap has said Liverpool will be tapping up a player from another club. I have explained what can be done in order to obtain a deal for Ings. Is Barrett on of the posters here? It would be interesting to have him justify all of this nonsense he is being accused of saying about Rodgers and Dyche conspiring to make an illegal approach.}

05 Feb 2015 04:39:08
Ed002 maybe you should talk to Ed001 about Tony Barrett. The Merseyside reporter for The Times, amongst fans he is considered the leading expert (along with James Pearce of The Echo) on what is happening at Anfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that is not what he is, he is not an expert on what is happening, no one is. Nor is he leading anything. Pearce is worse, he is just saying what he is told to say, which is why there are so many inaccuracies in his stories.}
