Players looking most likely to sign

1) Henderson - Doubt we'll have much competition. United need someone more established to replace Scholes and City seemed to have lost interest. Around 15 - 16 mil should do it.

2) Wickham - Seems likely that he's the third striker we're looking for, good young player with plenty of experience for his age. Tottenham were main rivals but seem keen on the young Brazilian forward (can't think of names). Likely to be 10 mil with add ons.

3) Phil Jones - Amazing talent for his age and lack of experience. Centre backs commonly develop over time but Jones is already a stand out and a season with Liverpool is likely to get him in the England squad. (Upson past it, King and Woodgate knackered, Carra retired etc). Likely to cost 15 mil but seems keen to leave and may force a move. Arsenal may prove strong rivals but seem to favour height and power in Samba.

With those free costing £40 or so mil I imagine we'd have another 15 - 20 mil possibly including player sales. Marveux would be free, we'll probably keep Maxi so that's two cover options for the wings. We have Kuyt who will play more often than not and then potentially Downing, Young or Mata if we're feeling flamboyant. We also need a left back, unless we trust Johnson but judging on the fact we've bid for Enrique means that we're probably likely to buy someone.

Personally I would be happy with Young to add to the three above. Noteable departures if we can get rid Joe Cole (hoping Pacheco is alowed his place), Jovanovic, Poulson, fringe or loaned out players like Degen, Darby, El Zhar etc and potentially someone higher profiled like Agger.

Mata's new contract contains a buy out clause of 60 million, but that will always be negotiable if both the player and the club are willing to listen to offers.
What is clear is that Valencia expect an offer at some point and so far City and Liverpool seem to have shown the greatest level of interest in him (more visits from their scouts to Mestalla or more contact with his agent, for instance). was on ladbrokes betting site to do bet on the derby (get your money on recital) and saw the transfer betting . we are odds on for mata , downing, dann, adam and joey barton . are these in line with wot you know or have heard ED? personally id have mata and downing all day long. dann is a decent player . adam i only a squad player but he may be the key by bringing something else to the team when we struggle to break teams down like we have in the past . but joey barton !!! think this would be bad news i know people deserve 2nd chances but how many does this guy need . wouldnt want him wearing the red. wat are your thoughts ED {Ed001's Note - the Barton stories all came from his agent trying to get his contract sorted with Newcastle. I hate rumours like this but 3 of my mates from Granton Road, close to Anfield in Liverpool have told me the same thing now... They've heard that Liverpool are to sign an English International on Monday and will be confirmed at a press conference in Anfield at lunchtime. I'll take it with a pinch of salt and believe it when I see it.

I would prefer Vertonghen but I'm unsure if reported interest is genuine. I read a couple of weeks ago we had enquirer about him, but could just be paper talk.

To all the Vargas lovers he does not have the pace to play in the premier league. Look at how left backs like Dossena and Kolarov have done in the prem proving how poor a league Serie A is. Yes Vargas is technically gifted, has an unreal cross and a frightening free kick but he plays all of his football on the left wing for Fiorentina. He is not our answer to the left back problem. 20mill is also over the top. On an aside Jordan Henderson will sign for 16mill.

to the fella before speaking about juan vargas being a good option, well i totally agree, and with the uncertainty at the direction fiorentina is taking i think all offers for vargas will be heard, at 27 would give us 2-3 years , and in the meantime bring on the likes of robinson, who i think is gonna be a great wing back, plus vargas is a feisty bugger, not a nasty but more like suarez he's got fire in his belly, i for one would love to see vargas wear our colours.

Delighted to hear the news about Henderson as it looks less and less likely Askley Young will sign. Also the eds seem pretty sure Moussa Sissoko is likely to join so good times ahead. Now, scorn if you must it is only what I've heard, but Robbie Keane may be back on his way to Anfield. He'll definitely leave White Hart Lane this season but we will only sign him if he'll take a drop in wages (heard we're looking at paying 30k p/w tops).

I've just been down my local swimming pool doing lengths, I'm up to 50 now, on the way out I was talking to the maintanance guy and he told me a rather pleasing story, he was cleaning a small blockage from the drainage system of the pool when he came across a couple of pieces of paper, being the creep that he is he put the paper ontop of the aircon ducting in the plant room to dry out so he could read them and try to get some dirt on the customers, to his surprise he found some very official looking paperwork that turned out to be a Liverpool contract signed by none other than Sergio Kun Aguero, I didn't believe him at first but then I seen 2 magpies on my way out, everyone knows this is a sign for joy so it must be 100% nailed on, apparently Tom Werner is always down the pool working on his back stroke and he must have accidentally let the contracts slip into the pool, so you heard it here first Aguero will be at Liverpool next year.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if we signed him. The new liverpool regime of KK and DC run a tight ship. I imagine in interest of not pushing prices up most of the signings will be done with confidentiality in mind.

I have a friend who lives just outside of Madrid, great guy got me and my brother into the champions league match with them a few seasons ago. Not a great lover of Mourinho but has hear a rumour that if Lorente signs Higuain may be used in a deal to bring Gerrard to Madrid this would make sense as the manager is a great admirer and we are certainly capable of performing without him.
If we had to offer £10m on top i would think this would be an excellent deal for both sides and give a great servant of this club the opportunity to shine again in Spain.

Posted the bookies odds earlier, I have also heard that gerrard could be on the move. Not to real Madrid but AC Milan. I know this was on the rounds a couple of seasons ago, but looks like its on the up again. The bloke is a legend but we played decent football without him in the side. I just feel the pressure is off the lads when he isn't watching their every pass. What do you think eds, any truth in this?? Great site

Just to keep yee up to date on prices of transfers,
Mata now cut in from 6/4 to 5/6, Joey Barton still at 2/5 why i dont know, Adam 1/2, Downing 1/3...i would take Barton if it meant getting the other 3 centre half and another striker, i would be happy enough with that.
Also we are 2nd favs to land aguero Madrid are favs where i think he likely to land might pave the way for Higuain or Benzema..Who knows????????

Newcastle football club have targeted 3 LFC players in a swap deal with Jose Enrique coming our way. The three players are Ngog, Spearing and Joe Cole. Price rumoured to be 6 mil + 1 player or two of the said players, swap for J.Enrique. Believe what you will :)

Why is everyone wishing are players away such as Suarez and Gerrard? We have the money now to buy players without swaps, or selling. Rumours are, Mata deal is on the horizon and Ashley Young deadline has been set, not sure of date, but assumed to be end of next week. Hi Guys, just been speaking to a fringe player at Newcastle who tells me that Lucas is moving to St James Park for £8 million. Liverpool will then sign Jordan Henderson from Sunderland. Would be a great piece of business for LFC.
Newcastle has also enquired about Shane Long but have been told a deal is done with LFC for £5 million and will be made public next week after the internationals. Great third choice striker.

Talking to one of the managers from an english shop, weve been told the Juan Mata to liverpool deal is all but done just a payment structure needs to be agreed! My brother lives in the same road (a nice leafy village in the Midlands) as Ashley Young. He had a nice conversation with Mr Young earlier this week (before he joined up with the England squad) who said he was very much looking to continuing to play with Stewart Downing next season, and that they enjoyed switching flanks as a tactic throughout a game.

Hey ed, what do you think of a swap deal with aquilani going to inter and santon coming to Liverpool? I know swap deals are very rare but inter could keep cash for their big name purchases and liverpool would be a getting a great young player that gives us options in both full back positions. I've been reading this site alot over the last few days and haven't posted as yet - However I must say I generally agree with everything the 'Ed's' have said. And I have to say I would like to see Aquilani given a second shout as per Ed002(?). I think all the posts about Agu ro are quite dumbfounded, as much as I'd like to think he will be in Liverpool colours, I can't see that happening unless we offer Champions League football. Young is Man Utd bound if an offer is tabled everything about his attitude and him as a player suggests that's where he is better suited, he is not humble enough for Liverpool. Henderson will not be wearing our colours as long as Bruce is in charge of Sunderland (he will make it as expensive and awkward as possible), people seem to forget they roll over everytime they play Man Utd, I'm not saying it won't happen, but I'm saying it will cost. Downing is more likely, but Villa's valuation of him is far too high in my opinion. I'd love to see Mata come but I think we're probably second in line for him also. I think Perotti is a viable target as well as Marveaux (with regards to foreign talent). I'd love to see Sakho sign for us but I think Danne is more likely. Anyway I just thought I'd give my two cents on the discussions, people have their heads quite high in the sky at the moment, but don't forget - we have just signed an absolute gem in Suar z, no need to rush two many overpaid, underperforming superstars into a nice balance too fast! (Am I along the right lines here Ed, Edd and Eddy's?)

ed, you say mata has not signed, but do you know of any progress or any planned talks? {Ed002's Note - This was simply a spoof on Twitter. The situation remains that there is certainly interest in Juan Mata, and Valencia are preparing for next season without the player.

However, whilst there is known interest from Liverpool I suspect he may end up elsewhere as interest is also being shown by Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United. Barcelona may well also become interested at some point and if they do show their hand I feel he could move there. Manchester City were reportedly heading the queue but had an offer rejected. As such, it would not be entirely out of the question that Liverpool could push for the player and make a concerted effort to match any other offer; and then there is a chance Mata could join.

In order to get the best deal, Valencia may want to wait (a) to see if Barcelona show an interest; (b) until after the Under 21 Championships where he could well put in a very good performance.

So the player is away with the Under21 squad at the moment.}

Well at least it is not just the British Media! Below is translation of article yesterday from Italy - "corrieredellosport".

They are re-quoting what the Daily Mirror is printing!!! :

LONDON, June 2 - Juve have offered six million pounds, slightly more than seven million euro, to Liverpool for the card of Alberto Aquilani. This was revealed by the Daily Mirror, under which it would propose Marotta Reds to eight million pounds less than the original agreement between the two clubs which provided for the surrender by May 15.

According to the tabloid, Liverpool is seriously considering the offer because it would get rid of the Italian midfielder has another three-year contract to 80 thousand pounds a week and take the Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson.

I personally would be happy with just Adam signing and a CB and a Winger. I think Adam can really help us push for champions league. His set pieces are second to none and with Carroll i could see a lot of goals coming from them. Also we've seen him in the PL so we know he can cope.
Do any eds know if we are actually interested in Adam and if we are, is it looking possible ?

Juventus then spent two days with his representatives and whilst we don't know whether they came up with the right package for the player, but they did make an offer to negotiate a fee with Atletico Madrid, but that was rejected. I don't see Chelsea going back with another package for the player just yet. I would not yet entirely rule out Real Madrid regardless of what has been said. Again I am not so sure Manchester United have completely removed themselves from the equation after failing, like Chelsea, to put an acceptable package together for the player. I think, after we off-load some of the deadwood in the squad we could use these plays along with the quality players we already have to further the potential of the better younger lays in our squad.

Liverpool keen on both Charles Nzogbia & James McCarthy from Wigan in a deal that could be worth a combined £24m. As I mentioned in a previous post Wigan have been told they can have Pacheco & Ayala. Both interest Wigan and their loan spells have helped put them in the shop window. I know swaps don't happen often but the right conditions exist - we want one or both of their players, our players aren't on big wages, won't have to uproot and have also had experience of the British game. Haven't a clue on valuations of our two but I'd guess Dani @ £4.5 and Daniel @ £3.5 with us putting sell-on clauses in place. Potentially two good recruits who would be closer to our first-team at a combined cost of c. £15-16m. Decent business I'd say.

He had a good season last season and it means we can spend bigger on wingers, centre midfield and defence....easy peasy !

Very reliable news from a Melwood insider, Liverpool will be signing 1 player from Aston Villa and he's........guess who, it's Marc Albrighton. KK has dropped the plan to sign either Young or Downing and going for the younger prospect in Albrighton. But only problem is Villa will not approve any deal before they appoint a new manager.

Liverpool along with Spurs, Everton and Sunderland have all delcared their interest(s) in Charles N'Zogbia. Personally I believe he is an excellent player and still at an excellent age.

The Henderson rumours I share with many Liverpool fans are a little bewildering. A good player, maybe for the future but I think the consensus is we need a little more proven quality at this moment in time. So a little disappointed at the minute.

My only beam of optimism is Pepe Reina was impressed with the plans for the club, he decided to stay. I do not believe he'd decide to stay if the big push for the top 4 was Scott Dann, Henderson, Marveux and Stewart Downing. So my feeling is there may be bigger players on the horizon. Here's hoping.

Hi Ed, with the lack of European football this season does this mean the recruitment policy might have changed slightly? What I mean by that is, with fewer games to cope with, the squad doesn't need to be as big as it would have if we were playing European football and playing every Thursday/Monday. So will that enable us to focus on fewer, but major/quality signings this season with a view to further strengthening maybe in January and next summer when Europe is back on the agenda? I saw on the Chelsea rumours that LFC were interested in Pastore at some point, but would struggle with the price.......could this situation lead to us landing a Pastore/Aguero for instance?

As much as a rate Henderson as a Sunderland player I can't see him being a successful Liverpool player. I personally have heard nothing in respect of any action other than keeping track of him at the moment. I personally think this rumour has a lot to do with press speculation. Obviously Liverpool are keeping track of a huge number of players at the moment.

I see we have had a bid for Henderson turned down by SAFC according to reports, while I have to admit this young lad is talented I am unsure if he is ready for a big move.
Lee Cattermole is also rumoured , he seems to have this tag of being a dirty player which I think is unfair.The reason he gets booked a lot is cos he gets stuck in while others stand off (maybe be looked at as a DFM breaking play up)

There is certainly interest in Juan Mata, and Valencia are preparing for next season without the player. However, whilst there is known interest from Liverpool I suspect he may end up elsewhere as interest is also being shown by Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United. Barcelona may well also become interested at some point and if they do show their hand I feel he could move there. Manchester City were reportedly heading the queue but had an offer rejected. As such, it would not be entirely out of the question that Liverpool could push for the player and make a concerted effort to match any other offer; and then there is a chance Mata could join.

In order to get the best deal, Valencia may want to wait (a) to see if Barcelona show an interest; (b) until after the Under 21 Championships where he could well put in a very good performance.}

Less than 36 hours after the window opens and KK, DC and FSG are offering £13mil for a 20 year old! (without the media knowing!) Gone are the days of watching other clubs take the best players leaving us with the best of a bad lot come mid August before we even make an offer. I agree he wasn't given a chance to prove himself. in first half of season Cole&Babel were pushed forward, when KK took over he forgot about him. Jovanovic was scoring in international competion. Every continental player needs at least a year to adapt to english football if player doesn't get a chance will need even more time to adapt. LFC is keeping N'Gog, Insua, Lukas for more than 3 seasons and they turn up average players. Babel was kept almost 4 years result? Torres couldn't score for 4 months should Chelsae get rid of him??!!They are not that stupid. Why would CFC let Joe Cole for free- because they knew his potential. Jovanovic had a chance to move where ever he wanted( Real Madrid, Vallencia, Lyon, AC Milan and others were looking for him) and what he did he stayed unessery year in Liege because he wanted to come to Liverpool as he promissed to Rafa. ToEd013 Jovanovic is payed 40k per week. Do you really think it's a lot comp.with 90K per week for Cole.{Ed013's note - At the moment he is costing us 120K a week as we are still paying his signing fee and to me that is way too much but joe cole has to go. You have a friend here mate. I was quite excited when I herd his signing last summer, but unforunately he was not given enough chances to prove himself. We all know it takes a little while to prove oneself in a new league and a new country. I hope atleast this pre season he will get some chances and show KK that he can atlease be a good option as back up striker. Maybe save us some money in the striker department that can be spent on the more pressing winger/LB/CB requirements.

I agree he wasn't given a chance to prove himself. in first half of season Cole&Babel were pushed forward, when KK took over he forgot about him. Jovanovic was scoring in international competion. Every continental player needs at least a year to adapt to english football if player doesn't get a chance will need even more time to adapt. LFC is keeping N'Gog, Insua, Lukas for more than 3 seasons and they turn up average players. Babel was kept almost 4 years result? Torres couldn't score for 4 months should Chelsae get rid of him??!!They are not that stupid. Why would CFC let Joe Cole for free- because they knew his potential. Jovanovic had a chance to move where ever he wanted( Real Madrid, Vallencia, Lyon, AC Milan and others were looking for him) and what he did he stayed unessery year in Liege because he wanted to come to Liverpool as he promissed to Rafa. What LFC did for him? {Ed013's Note - I thought he would be good and still do but he needs to take a pay cut first}

Lol its funny how many people with their 'facts' start writing about us buying Henderson AFTER skysports and the rest do...where were you before?! Anyway believe it or not, my cousin is in the know with all his footballing links to agents and some ex-players. The Henderson rumours are supposedly true. Stevie, Raul, Jordan and Jay are the desired 4 main CM, with Coady playing cameos. Shelvey will be loaned out; meaning no space for Lucas who will be sold for as close to £12 million as possible.
Other supposed ins - Sakho, Cissokho, Mata, Marveaux, Perotti and possibly a young striker (no Aguero).
Other supposed outs - Kyrgiakos, Degen, Konchesky, Insua, Aurelio, Poulsen, Aquilani, Cole, El Zhar, Jova, Ngog.
All information is from my cousin, but EDS this sounds viable right?

Calm down calm down Henderson rumours are a smokescreen...we wont be spending 15 odd million quid on potential. We have been rejected by canales and Mvilla but Henderson from snippets of info I have got is a two fold. Firstly as a smokescreen for the real target who is Javi Martinez and secondly to wind fat head up for all his vitriol towards us under Rafa! We may go in for Canales again as he is surplus to requirements at real after Sahins arrival. Also Banega is a contingency plan. Mata will sign for Chelsea as Maloudas replacement sorry to burst your bubble guys! Ive been tellin you for weeks Downing is a done deal you better believe it! We are buying British because Commolli couldnt attract the best french/continental targets. He wont be at LFC after euro 2012.
