liverpool considering heskey... no joke {Ed062's Note - I was tempted to take away the 'no' part of that sentence}

Do we only go for strikers that don't score?

Play the kids

Not gonna happen, already said there will be no short term fixes

I heard liverpool considering Kenny at no.9..lol

Ed62 what do u know.. If you use google it may be confirmed for you {Ed062's Note - what???}

Sure fire way to make us look even more incompetent. At this stage in his career he's like a less effective andy carroll, how stupid would we look signing a player like that?

If they are looking at free agent strikers, I doubt highly that Heskey is near the top of the list.

Hope we don't re-sign heskey, he's awful

Ill be honest at this point I dont think we can look even more incompetent. I live and work in Manchester and even the United fans have stopped giving me grief. I guess they no longer see us as competition.

Please no! That is just a joke surely!

I reckon Robbie Folwer could still do a Job.

Owen and Heskey reliving the history. Rolling back the years

Let's just get Drogba. He is the only top quality free agent around

Who said Heskey is bad? Yes, he doesn't have a great goal scoring record but he is a team player.

When you need someone to run down the clock, who do you look to? When you need someone to draw defenders away, who do you look to? It's unfair to say Heskey is a poor player.

However, we don't need him now. We need a killer, one with the killing instinct, not a team player.

You see whats happend there Ed's is that the end of the sentence was going to read ' as the new car parking attendant' but the poor lad hit send to soon.

Hi Eds,

Have any of you heard on the grapevine whether or not an out of contract player could be signed before the January window. {Ed062's Note - I doubt it mate, none of them are good enough to be honest}

DEL PIERO HES CLASS.HESKEY WOULD BANG UM IN ASWELL ,jesus its only some one for the bench anyway

Heskey and Owen for me. Seen as Drogba's wages are do high

What about Somen Tchoyi (ex-WBA) ? Should be fairly cheap...

I don't think it matters if they're not good enough, we need numbers full stop.
If Suarez gets injured next game what we are gonna do!? As long as it's not that pri*k owen!

Ed what is good enough though? Many of our signings that have taken place in the transfer window haven't been good enough for more than a decade

Why pay these players ridiculous wages when we're already paying players just as capable and their our future so why not giv e them a chance?

Cudge

Will people get over it. We are to good as a club for heskey and he can't bang them in, and we couldn't welcome Owen after his time with the septic tanks, he's always injured and drogba's wages are too high.

Tchoyi is available? Don't know that he would improve us necessarily, but he seemed decent when I saw him play for WBA last year.

Michael NGoo deserves a chance at least on the bench over that donkey Heskey anyway

Dodge

Give Morgan and Yesil a game rather than wasting money paying players who expect a fat cheque each week

Ngoo is a donkey

Heard Klasnic was being considered. We are also monitoring the Barios situation. Both offer limited resale (very limited). Owen is very unlikely for multiple reasons; wage demands, injury record, fan backlash etc.

Do you really think BR and the owners would be worried about a backlash, these people are thick skinned, they know it would eventually die down, especially if owen scored in his first game back

There would be a definite backlash, whether he scored or not, the man is a not welcome here, i'd rather we put the kids in. Have some dignity and moral fibre for f***ks sake.

David

If they were to be signed then resale value wouldn't be an issue as they would only be signed on very short term or even rolling contracts.

If they were to be signed then resale value wouldn't be an issue as they would only be signed on very short term or even rolling contracts.

Get ready for a relegation scrap this season folks, dont think we'll go down, but we could be in for a few early scares, we'll probably end up finishing 12th, bad times {Ed062's Note - did you get that from 3 games ?}

Barrios was top scorer for Dortmund for 2 seasons before his injury ano Lewondowvski started scoring the goals. He would be the ideal partner for Suarez and a natural goal scorer. Maybe a long shot at this time but if FSG could pull a deal off then they would redeem themselves.

Heskey out of contract and rumoured to be on list of short term signings.

You guys are in the sh+t i fully expect relegation battle make the most of thursday nights it will be long time before you in europe again

Barrios is currently playing in China for Guangdou Evergrande

Hi Eds, please don't crucify me? But I had a idea.. Why not play gerrard as the third striker role?? Please before you dismiss the idea. Gerrard can play in a front three with suarez in the left. Borini down the middle, and gerrard on the right.

Amin

Owen was only on around basic of £15K per week at Utd, so I doubt wage demands would put him out of the picture!

I think we should go for del piero...ive always admired him top class player no matter how old he is

Klasnic could be useful I think. Get him in I say. Owen's a non starter - only interested in coin not the badge on his shirt , what a fall from grace...really sad. Liverpool made him! {Ed062's Note - hes gone to Mainz}

I'd just go for Drogba he is the only real quality free agent

Ed002, am I right in saying that Walcot and Llorente will be in the final six months of their contracts in January, should they not renew? Would we be able to raise enough from selling Downing and augmenting that with the £6m or so we've just made this summer to buy those two.

Also, could Jack Butland be a possibility in Jan?

I know it's still too early, but Brendan surely must have one or two in mind. Perhaps he could go back in for Sturridge seeing as we clearly were interested.
Big question, though, are we going to be faced with the same reality of having to sell to buy?
Ed?

BARNEY {Ed002's Note - I would think Walcott will renew. I would not expect Llorente. Butland I don't know. Liverpool were only interested in a loan for Sturridge - and he was only available for a sale.}

Ed why would llorente not be an option? we are clearly going to look to buy a striker and we can afford him {Ed002's Note - I am not opening this matter of what Liverpool can afford up again.}

No llorente big player wont want toplay at anfield how much do you think downing worth i think 8m tops gget real should be looking at grant holt or carlton cole

There is a long way to January

I'd love Butland. Reina is shocking at the moment

Starting to make Rafa look good really. Embarrassing

Llorente would need a big contract plus a good signing on fee as clubs will be throwing them at him come January.

but with that said there is no reason why we can't compete financially, but most probably he would be itching to play Champions league football.

nevertheless he would want to be first choice starter and at liverpool he would do that. he also wants to play in England and he is Reaaaallllly good friends with Pepe.

if we can convince him that we can compete next season and that we will invest in the summer then he might be temped to come, plus he isn't the type to want to live in a big city environment like London being Basque an all.

Ed's answer me this... Why are so many posts on here ridiculously naive and uneducated?

People are still asking who we are going to buy in Jan and throwing big names around¦.. Have they just missed what has happened in the transfer window where at the end (after Borini and Allen money) we could not afford £5mil for Dempsey¦.. Now we will look to sign Walcott and Llorente in January¦..

Please, please wake up to the new Liverpool over the next few years¦¦ No big names will be joining.. They will spend wisely and hope to find a gem that has sell on value (i.e. Assaidi “ clearly spelt wrongïŠ).

Sinister Red {Ed062's Note - i think people still think of liverpool as one of the 'top 4 clubs' but in reality we have finished 8th}

I don`t believe this, we had no chance of signing llorente,walcott and sturridge before the transfer deadline because we don`t have the funds, in january we will still have NO FUNDS to buy these players, why bring it all up again, and next season we will have no european football so even LESS FUNDS, we will only be getting in loans, get used to it

Let's not forget our esteemed owners don't feel the January transfer window offers any value. Expect another frustrating window followed by another raft of excuses!

Ha ha . no one else left to sell

Even if Walcott did become available, he would not sign for us. Why would he leave a team in the Champions league for a mid table club, which is what we are now.

One player we should snap up in jan is guiseppe rossi....i would risk buying him..if he gets fit fast after his injury hel be back on top

Hha rossi why would he want to play at anfield you all need to get a grip nobody wants to play for lfc anymore there a team going backwards wont dont have champions league and wont be in europe next year get a grip and get used to slugging it out with swansea, norwich and west ham

Mid Table no hopers if we're lucky, seriously I see us flirting with relagation, then who knows, if one or both of our two GREAT goal getters are injured where do we go then!
DONT Expect any signing of quality in January FSG will not fund it, as was said in John Henry's open lettter, basically were shafted!

Ed, Now that we haven't got the players we hoped for is there any news as to how we are going to address the situation, either by free agents, youngsters or just stick with our current two forwards? Also do you think that the onwers now realise that Liverpool fans are not happy with their ways in trying to play hardball over transfers?

Cheers

Barry {Ed002's Note - Dempsey was the only loss. I suspect the most likely situation is to use the existing players. If there is someone out-of-contract who is available and if they could improve the squad, then perhaps they could come in.}

The owners arent stupid they know the fans are not happy but they are running the club like a business not a rich mans folly ie manc city what they save in wages they will have to buy a decent player in jan and no mortgage the club to the hilt its gonna take time we have taken a step backwards after the poor over valued players k.k signed they know they got burnt with that one so once bitten etc

Gerrard can play the Dempsey role better than Dempsey if he gets plenty of rests (just play him in league games). gerrard is a good goal scorer, get him in the right areas. Shelvey has shown that he can play the gerrard role in midfield, with hendo as good back up. Sahin needs to work on his fitness and we need lucas back. Joe Allen is top drawer.

Owen and Drogba?

The actions or should I say non actions in the transfer market have ruined any remote possibility of finishing in the top 4! We have no striker. I cannot believe this has been allowed to happen. I can only suggest you get Michael Owen in on a short term contract and pray his legs hold up. You thought 8th was bad!

I/ve been a Liverpool fan for a long time and I would rather we went without a striker than got screwed over the price.
Unfortunately that is the view we should have taken with Carroll. My bigger concern is that the owners ethos appears to have changed very quickly from the 'we just wanted to net £15m from the sale of Torres, whatever' when we should have netted £35-£40m to not being willing to spend an extra £1-2m on a player.

03 Sep 2012 11:17:59
Hello eds, are we in talks with any free agents? Cheers {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

Yes, Michael Owen and Didier Drogba

Err, and how do you know that? {Ed019's Note - Drogba is not a free agent anyway}

03 Sep 2012 10:42:35
Drogba will join

No he won`t

No he wont why would he want to come to Liverpool?

Didier Drogba will not join Liverpool.

Want a source? Check out JW Henry's letter to fans. He will never again mortgage the clubs future on inflated transfer fees and WAGES.

You can also take that as proof Rafa Benitez will never be LFC manager again.

This will not happen and you are simply stating what you would like to happen rather than an actual rumour of it happening. The entire summer has been all about reducing the club's wages bill. It is highly unlikely the owners will undo all that good work by bringing in Drogba on huge wages. In addition, both Drogba and his advisors are not stupid...in other words, they will know about the club's transfer failings on deadline day and how desperate they need a goalscorer which will push up the signing on fee and wages etc. Michael Owen is arguably a more realistic and financially viable option.

Yesssss. Hope your right

Says who? Or are you just plucking it out of the air, hoping it will happen, then you can claim your the best thing since sliced bread?

Drogba wont join! as for the john henry's letter, its hard to disagree with most of what he has written although if his whole plan works around all other teams getting in line with these fair play rules i hope he is not holding his breadth.

The mortgage comment by Henry (as referred to above) gave me confidence that FSG are looking after the club in the right way. However, I do feel that they need to do something ASAP whatever the short term cost (e.g. Drogba £200k a week until 30th June 2013* is £8.6m) to get top 4 and secure champions league. They need to do this because management appear to have let down BR after failing to secure a replacement for AC.

Of course, Drogba was only an example of a costly solution!

*(I think that one of the EDs mentioned yesterday that a deal would have to be until 30th June 2013)

Oh god I hope not. After the hard work BR has put into reducing the wage bill, I wouldn't want that 30-something drama queen diving all over the place when things aren't going his way, all the time draining us of £200k+ a week. Of course he never got a ribbing for it whilst at Chelsea, but if he brought his amateur dramatics to LFC it would be a different story...

No he won't!
He's on a kings ransom in China n we couldn't get close nor should we. He's a money player like Owen n they're everything that's wrong with the modern game sadly.

To be honest liverpool need to go for a few of the free agents even if it means going for owen or drogba. We have fallen short in the transfer market and we will struggle til jan with only suarez and borini. its not fair to put so much pressure on young morgan and sterling. they are developing nicely and don't need to be rush. We must bite the bullet and our pride and try to get one of these guys for at least a year.

Why would drogba want to move to a club with no champions leage football, and also we can't afford his wage demands!

Think about things before you post them

Drogba is nearly 35 years old and earns £200,000 a week.

Aye on your game of football manager

So we are not paying inflated wages. That means three obvious outcomes. 1. Top players will join other club who do pay top wages. 2. Top Liverpool players will be tempted away to earn more. 3. We will never be successful again. FFP only works if ALL clubs abide by it. Clearly most do not.

I would just play suso instead, and morgan, and assaidi and the new striker from germany

alright we might not do anything special this year but they will develop quickly

Yes we will not pay £5 mil for Dempsey buy pay Drogba about £150k a week in wages....

Get Real everyone.

Drogba is 10 times better than dempsey if we can get him we definately should do for a season , he could be4 what were missing a big powerfull striker who can score goals an can play football

The Chinese league ends on 3rd November so it may be possible to get Drogba on loan from Nov. until the Jan window.

To the one who said drogba wont come because we dont have CL. Are shanghai shenwa in CL? THe risk is despite bringing DB on high wages he doesn't score. But removing Cole & Andy wages it make sense to pay drogba his demands. After the contract expires he can be sold for 3-4 M. If a player can get us onto CL its worth investing. Drogba is a solid player I think in the final box he is very strong only referee can deny him his chances.

Arun {Ed002's Note - You cannot sell a player after his contract expires. Sorry.}

Eds is Lucas Barrios available on a free transfer? If so would we be able to bring him in outside a window? What would his wages be like? More importantly is he what we need?
Cheers YNWA
Alves {Ed002's Note - No, Barrios is not available.}

I've just been reading that he mite given a free transfer as his unhappy at his new club maybe a load of rubbish but at 27 and 39 goals in 83 games would be a great signing

Adriano's on a free but his a bit of a d**k but a great player when he wants to be

Last night Liverpool and Michael Owens representatives made contact..

As I stated 2 days ago I believe Owen would jump at the chance to return and Rogers is keen..

I will post again when I know more..

Cheers..

Davis93

Owen coming back never thought i would see those words on any Liverpool site.

Hi Eds how serious are we looking at Owen & possible Drogba to come in? I hope we don't screw that up!! {Ed063's Note - I seriously doubt we would have any chance of Drogba even if we did move for him. If we signed Owen I would be seriously disappointed because I feel Morgan deserves a chance more than Owen}

If Owen is to return short term, no matter what anyone thinks, we are now in a 'needs must' situation. If he returns he is capable of scoring goals. We all know that, but if Morgan is deemed to be a goalpoacher like Owen, how invaluable would it be if Owen, playing or not, was in a position to coach Morgan on a one-to-one basis. I think the benefits are there for all to see.

Owen to coach morgan? first off we need to be sure that Owen is motivated to help a club, or whether he is motivated to ensure his final paycheck....I would think the latter is more likely.

having said that, an able body as an extra option is what we need. And Adam Morgan is that able-body. but bloody well play him up front none of this earn your stripes on the wing nonsense.

Desperate times, desperrate measures, another good mid table finish for the second best Team in the city of Everton.

Hi Ed063. I had the same thought as the last poster who commented on the extra value of Owen coming back temporarily or otherwise for some of our up-and-coming strikers. I think his impact upon Morgan's game could be immeasurable and in all honesty even Borini might benefit. When the possibility was first mooted I was against it BUT I admit I'm now warming to the possibilities. By the way, I agree with you on Morgan possibily coming good THIS year (Yesil as well) but we can't underestimate how important a mentor system can be on development and the speed of that development. {Ed063's Note - I understand your point of a mentor mate. But if thats the case why not bring Fowler back in a coaching role to help the likes of Borini, Yesil and Morgan?}

Yes, Morgan is a goal poacher. But if BR put him on the right like he did with Hearts, he won't get much goals. Morgan needs to play central striker.

Probably true, but I think you will find that Rodgers is desperate not keen!

Hi eds, have u heard any news?

Confirmed as real Davis93 :p

No they didn't , you're a liar

LFC need a goalscorer, period. There is no time or space for all the sentimental bullshyte of fans now. Get him in, we need him.

Hi ed063, fowler had been with us in the USA tour, is he just a guest in the tour? {Ed063's Note - I honestly don't know}

Id rather have robbie fowler making a return matter infact I'd rather have Heskey than Owen... Michael Owen is the worst kind of them all... Do not want to see him at Liverpool at any cost... We should give chances to the young guns Morgan , ngoo... Even try the new lad yesil out

Fergie let him go .enough said ..

Owen to score winner against united in a few weeks time. Brilliant

If we sign owen we are going to be a laughing stock. the mancs are gunna love it

Who cares what the mancs think? we've got enough to worry about, without worrying about them muppets.

I would prefer Lineker to Owen!

If micheal owen gets signed by liverpool it would be a big mistake, we need a player we cab rely on owen has a worse sick record than a council worker

Davis93 is simply cutting and pasting from Twitter and pretending he has a source

Reading through all your posts very mixed feelings on Owen returning to the club, I agree that the young lad Morgan should be given a chance, to be fair thats how Owen ended up in the team to begin with 7 don't think that his position & development should be put in jeopardy by a short term what we can now call a "journey man". That being said i think every club needs at least 4 Strikers, maybe even 5 with the way we play, I think the Owen situation is a tricky one, yes he left us in the lurch, yes he went to our deadliest rivals & yes his injury record is one of the worst, but as much as it pains me to say it when the guy is fit he still is one of the best finishers in the game & at the moment we lack goals, even 10 goals of him this season would be a massive help plus his experience to help the kids may add another few goals from them, I think the best soloution would be a 1 year pay as you play deal with an option for another year if things go well. that way if he's crocked or on the bench he doesnt get paid & with no transfer fee & I imagine his signing on fee wouldn't be that big due to his age & injury record then financially it would not be a bad move, it could see us through til January.

Suso,morgan **** owen the rat

Michael Owen was never greatly admired by the fans, at least not compared to Fowler and one of those reasons was, due to the fact that he ran down his contract and left for 8 million. Then just to compound the situation, he joined Man Utd. The vast majority of fans would never have him back, the owners know this, so it will not happen. ( God knows they don't need any more bad PR)
Mick68

Someone said it earlier, desperate times, desperate measures. Never thought I would want MO back, but haven't seen enough of Morgan to suggest he can step up. Even if he could, we are still light in that department.

Owen should be put out to grass

rodgers got rid of bellemy ,kuyt, carrol all people who could score. even adam who no one seems to like led the team in assists and was a threat to score. i agree rodgers deserves a chance but i think he has made a mistake in not giving dalgish players a chance. i think jealousy clouded his vision.

You forgot maxi...

I imagine he's quite jealous of the 100M+ Kenny got to spend.

Rodgers got rid of bellamy? are u kidding?

Its not at all Rodgers fault,Bellamy wanted himself to move to Cardiff,so did Kyut & Carroll was loaned but Rodgers was assured by FSG to get him atleast couple of striker,so tell me where is rodgers fault.

I think you're an person!

Bellamy wasn't going to get regular play time hence his departure.
Kuyt was never going to be prolific and was at the stage where it was time for him to move on.
Adam was a slow lump in the middle of the field that couldn't tackle if his life depended on it!
Maxi was a super sub that managed a few goals but was not consistant enough.
The only one hard done by is Carroll and is the only one I would still want at the club.

Jealousy did you say ?? why would anyone be jealous of players like adam , 5 yard pass henderson and carroll who couldnt score 20 plus goals in 35 apps ?? if anything they should be sold , too many players sitting in the club to get paid and not doing anything ( j cole ). i think we should get behind BR coz its still early days but also i think even if dempsey did come in i think we still have problems

He got rid of them because he always played with a smaller squad, believes in giving youth a chance and was told he could sign replacements. How can you blame Hume for that.

Jealousy of what exactly...?

Stupid comment really

Congratulation! This is the most ridiculous post Ive seen in years.

Say this one more time for persons to comprehend FSG have made him slash the wage bill and made him get rid of such players! If FSG can't even sanction a simple clint Dempsey transfer then how is that Rodgers fault.
Disgrace! FSG OUT!

Wow! Stunning ignorance. Kuyt and Bellamy both wanted to leave. Adam was 8th choice CM. Carroll didn't fit BRs style cos he's a gorilla but he would have kept him if he knew how unprofessional the people he works with are to leave him with 2 strikers.

Hendo and Downing are both KK's signing. They are in the squad, right?

Ive had enough of this 100M+ spend from Kenny. All the people that mention these comments forget that it is the Net spend that matters. Kenny's was about £30m - £35m so far Rodgers is £20.5 (dont forget the £5m for Sahin should be added).
We are now at the start of the premiership season with only 15 players that would need to be registered with the premiership. Of those 3 are goalkeepers, one is on loan and one is long term injured. That to me does not look like Rodgers has done anything other than reduced the standard of the squad. I will admit that Joe Allen is class, but who would not say that Kenny could not have bought him if he was given the further 20.5m.
I bet now that we dont put in a squad of 15 players to the premiership and pad it with players that are on the cusp of the 21 year old rule. {Ed062's Note - The fact of the matter is that. Kenny and co spent 100 million on average players there was far better value in the market}

I believe Brendan Rodgers was given a remit to reduce the wage bill and trim the squad of players. "Getting rid" of Kuyt, Bellamy, Maxi, Carroll, Adam etc was all, in my opinion, necessary business. The players that Brendan has brought in will all need time to gel. Admittedly results so far have not been what we hoped for, but the bigger picture is far more important. Give Joe Allen, Borini and Nuri Sahin time to shine and they will all prove their worth. In previous windows we've dragged in a load of new players and it's just not worked...we need to make changes but wholesale changes are just too risky. The squad doesn't lack depth, it lacks experience up front but i'm excited by the prospect of seeing how Raheem Sterling, Samed Yesit and Adam Morgan all do, now that they will be given more 1st team opportunities. I'm convinced that the "disaster" of the January transfer window is not as bad as people are anticipating. We're not a train crash waiting to happen, we're moving the squad forward in a logical, necessary way. Well done Brendan...you have my full support!

It was was more than That the man is to PIGHEADED but is being walked over as a yes man with Henry

03 Sep 2012 11:21:46
@ 100M+ we could have got atleast 10-12 new gud players its KK's deeds that are haunting us,So all KK's moaners & BR's Opposers think again when u comment.
holy_red.

03 Sep 2012 11:23:04
@ "I think you're an person" writer.

A few of your facts need adjusting: 1] Bellamy left for family reasons!; 2] Kuyt was told he would rarely start and would most likely be third pick...so he left for Fenerbace where he's been playing and banging in goals!; 3] Adam...well Adam had the highest number of assists in 2011/12! Finally; 4] KD had to be asked by the owners why he under-utilised Maxi who consistently scored when he played.

Yes, most of us believe AC was hard done by but only because we never got in a replacement. This was definitely poor backroom planning that appears to have even shocked BR.

I think you are right that he did not give the Dalglish players a chance. Adam played ok when fit last season and Hendo is a player developing. Had he gone with these 2 he would not have to have signed more midfielders (Sahin and Allen) and could have concentrated funds on strikers

Bellamy is badly missed you'd think that he would fit in perfectly. Kuyt was a supers sub work horse. And well Carroll was an excellent plan b

I agree, he didn't give kennys signings time to prove him otherwise. Selling Maxi for nothing, Kuyt for 800k, Bellamy for nothing, Adam for 4 million and giving Carroll away on loan were all huge mistakes. He basically removed all of the top scorers / assist makers last season with the exception of Suarez. But FSG made the biggest mistake hiring an unproven manager like Rodgers when they should of brought Rafa back, or went with Van Gaal.

Kenny didn't even buy Maxi or Kuyt

Every kenny signing was a poor one bar bellamy kenny made a mess of club along with benitez and houllier in a mess wont be top 10 going backwards fast

"Say this one more time for persons to comprehend FSG have made him slash the wage bill and made him get rid of such players! If FSG can't even sanction a simple clint Dempsey transfer then how is that Rodgers fault.
Disgrace! FSG OUT!"

What am personic comment. Dempsey was not worth the money Fulham were asking. Why would you pay more for a player when you believe he isnt worth money....or are you Damian Camolli?

First of all j w henry talks poo .. the club have made a massive mistake not getting a striker they are saving 600k a week on wages why not sanction a 6million for dempsey .. who could we buy in january we maybe still in relegation zone with our strike options . ps think these owners are like the old ones milking our great club

Not jealousy but arrogance, wants his own legacy, let's just hope he can be half the legend that is the King
