Chelsea have agreed 15 million for Isco... and we payed 12 million for sturridge... why aren't we signing these players?

HBRed

And his wages are??

Jesus, for the 1000000th time: because we are not in the champions league

Also being mooted that spurs have agreed a fee for moutinho? its now down to the player to decide!

UCL, obviously. We've been outside the top 5 for 3-4 years. Give BR a year or two, we'll be back there, then we can attract top top players like Isco. Otherwise it's top kids like Mirin and hoping they turn early promise into proper class.

Why would we sign isco he is a quality player but he is at oil rich Malaga his wages are already rediculous and he will be on even more rediculous wages at Chelsea

Because we are not in the championsleauge places

Do you even know what position isco plays.why dont you go support chelsea, u seem to enjoy all there transfers

Where did you hear this
not true

We needed and got a proven striker and you lament we should have signed a midfielder?! What's wrong with you?

Singred

And why would he choose us over chelsea patience please

mayhem 1981

How can chelsea fit isco and oscar in the same side unless they are going to 4-3-3 with one holding mid behind them both?
an t see either being happy wiht too much bench time, add to this they have moses marin de bruyne lukaku

this is depressing me
tom1975

Oh god it's tiring reading people bang on about the price paid for Sturridge.

Chelsea are already out of CL. So how can CL be bargaining chip for them. If they get Isco then money will be the only factor.

GoanRed

Then he will be one more rotation player, with all the players they have in his position - hazard, mata, oscar, kevin de bryne, piazon, marin, moses, ramirez and now luis in the midfield too. It will not happen. maybe its 15£ for isco, then his wages and signing on fee. he will not come cheap anyway. maybe we payed 12£ for sturridge, but still his wages is maybe the half og isco.

We cannot afford to buy and pay every decent player around. Chelsea can. Money rules I am afraid. Thank goodness they can still only play 11 at a time.
CR

Poor Isco, does he have a choice who he will talk to, it's quite simple he is a footballer but a human being, he will make a descion about his future because its his, and it's soo flipping clear we are re building so we will simply not attract the cream of Europe we have to create a percent of the cream of Europe while striving for a top four place.

Liverpool are in good shape.

All our top players are glued to long contracts, so worst case scenario we get top buck for our players, we are not reliant now on being in champs league financially, one negative I'd like to see happen is we go out of Europa league as I think we could push hard for top 4 now, seems like spurs are benefiting from it.

I think we have got the better deal ! 3 million pound cheaper, less in wages, and proven in the epl ant

Sturridge is 3m cheaper and British. We have better deal!

because we are not Chelsea and we go for players that suit Brendans plans and not Romans whim

Interesting line in L'Equipe claims that Queens Park Rangers want to sign Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila, who has been a target of Arsenal in the past. QPR are reluctant to meet Rennes' €10million (£8.1m) asking price - a fee which Zenit St Petersburg are rumoured to be prepared to pay. However, M'Vila is unsure of either a move to the Premier League's bottom club or to Russia.

-----

Eds at that price do you think we would be interested as he is a perfect cover player for Lucas and if Sahin leaves as expected than we mite be looking at a replacement.

BigD {Ed002's Note - No. Spurs, Inter Milan, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Newcastle, QPR, Zenit, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Juventus have all shown a interest in M'Vila over the past year and it was thought that perhaps even PSG and Barcelona would become interested as well - although the well publicized issues have probably put pay to that. However, he was there for the taking of Arsenal should they make an offer that is acceptable to Rennes but his recent issues with his National coach has made Arsenal think again. Spurs put an offer on the table - a 15M euro bid which was rejected, something Rennes now regrets. Zenit is another club who remain interested and QPR would look to attract him to London. If he were to be available to move this winter, there is going to be no shortage of interest but I suspect he would still be happy with a move to Arsenal.}

How is it that Newcastle are always linked with the top players comparef to us who are always linked with the mediocre kak.

I've seen this fella play. He cannot pass for toffee. In fact Sissoko passed the ball better.

Guillaume Hoarau but will miss out on the Paris St Germain forward, according to L'Equipe.

He is expected to sign for Dalien Aerbin and he is now expected to travel to China to undergo a medical on Monday before signing a contract.

Just reading some of the previous posts on here regarding Villa and Sneijder.

I believe it was Ed02 that said, regarding one of these players, that "their value, wages and insurance costs are too high for these players".

Now Villa is 31 and Sneijder is 28. Some would argue that players are at their peak between 27-32.

Manchester United spent £20+ million on a player who has a history of injuries, would more than likely demand high wages and is 29; a year older than Sneijder, 2 less than Villa.

This player has, so far, single handidly won them the league.

Not having a pop at Ed02 as you are by far my fave Ed, but surely if players that are 'world class' which, let's face it, we all consider Villa and Sneijder to be so, become available, we need to make an approach for them. If we sign Villa for 16million and he has 1 and a half seasons of excellence and gets us into the champs league, then that is money well spent, same with Sneijder, if he has only 2-3 decent seasons left in him, but those seasons fire us back to the champions league it is money well spent.

It is a risk that they may flop or become injured but I refer again to RVP. Huge risk joining utd but it has paid off. If it does pay off, we potentially get back into the CL, have extra revenue and can sign/attract more world class players.

Would be interesting to see what people think.

SMC

Have to agree . Liverpool have enoughquality in their youth players and most will come.good. But I've said before we need experienced players . I for one would take a chance if that player shot use up to 4th within two years it would be a cheap investment .
Marker

As much as I agree your missing one small problem their world class players who want to play for world class clubs and face facts where a long way from that status right now but gerrard & Sneijder running the middle would make us a very scary thought to play against

ramytheman

Gargantuan applause my fellow pool fan! I completely agree. I very rarely respond to posts however i completely agree with you. It doesn't mean villa or sneijder will be the success that rvp is but calculating risk; managing the risk and cost benefit analysis would surely amount to a not too significant outlay for sneijder at least but maybe not villa or both.
But a point well made SMC.
Even though I'm feeling slightly more optimistic than I was 1-2 months ago, I do not feel that Liverpool will be signing either of these players. I hope I am wrong on that front!

Think you are deluded and talking bollox mate... that is all

We just don't have the money to compete for these players anymore. Get over it.

Why would Villa or Sneijder want to come to Liverpool FC over the many clubs who are above us and would also be interested in their services?

Although in pretty good form, we're still a mid-table team at present. In all probability and likelihood they would have/will have more desirable option available to them.

Add to that the immense costs of their respective wages...

= No chance

Not all players are all alike, if that's the case lets get Beecham and ronaldinho :/

Anyone remember Gary Mac?

I agree. Speculate to accumulate in a way.

Crowman

Very reasonable post. There is the problem of the players wanting to come to an 8th placed team, even if it is Liverpool. If they have one or two years left they would rather have both guaranteed in champions league.in the other hand villa and sneijder would have guarentred firs team places and could help to make something special happen. A succesful Liverpool is always us something special.

I imagine we probably do ask these players an they just say no. We are in a position were we need to add value to players and the team and then get ourselves higher. "Build it, and they will come"

Eleichda!

I fully agree with you. I get fed up with listening to the edds saying that we either can't afford such a player or they are too old. Our squad has been severly depleated to reduce the wage bill and we sign so-so players in the hope that we can get a Europa League Place. We are Liverpool Football Club and as such, should be looking to sign players who will get us into the champions league, regardless of their age or cost. Only then will we be able to attract younger world class players. My question is this, what has happened to the money we were promised from the Standard Charted sponsorship and Warrior shirt deals? We were told that the money would be used to significantly strengthen the squad. And for those who say that we have spent a lot on players, if you look at money we recouped from player sales (Torres for example) then we haven't actually spent that much at all. Until our owners do what they promised then I am afraid we will stay a club scratching around in the middle of the league.

TEll ya what mate ya talking a bit of sense

Ur all mad money talks at the end of the day and don't tell me FSG have no money they haven't spent a penny if u want the players u can get them but your owners have to spend I blame king kenny and comolli for that stupid Carroll deal that scared FSG off and that's one of the reason they won't spend ther own money every penny we spend is made from sale and sponsorship aswel as all these partnerships they (FSG ) have one moe window in the summer to show ther spending power because they do have plenty of Money ther problem is they don't feel confident doing so {Ed002's Note - I remain astonished how ignorant certain fans are of the club's finances.}

If spurs can afford sneijder then so can we. Look at the unbelievable impact of Van Der Vart in 2 seasons at spurs.

Difference between RVP and these players is that he was playing very well every week for Arsenal. He was on fire villa and sneidjer is not and are playing almost no football.

Massive gamble

So you would pay one player almost as much as our captain and top goal scorer combined? That is the kind of wages Sneider would be comanding coming to a team as ours in 8th place with no CL!
Think about it, we may not be there now but we will be with A TEAM, not a bit of a team a couple of champs and some fill ins.....

It's all very well saying we should be signing these players. But say we got villa and paid him 160k a week and paid barca 16mil for him. What would all you lot be saying then if a) he got another injury to keep him out for another 12 months or b) he never got back anywhere near the level he was 2 years ago. I imagine 90% of everyone who replied to this would be saying " I knew it was a waste of money and we should have signed a young lad". We have just got rid of cole and other dead wood. Lets look to the future and try to find the next "villa"

So they can experience europa league, bad food and cold weather. You'd need to offer them some wages. I'd say stick to the carols and studges of this world can't go wrong, I think John Oshea is available

The big difference with rvp is he has years of prem experiance. He can ride the dirty tackles.

Basically a good post - they would both be amazing signings, but why can't people accept LFC can, and will not pay £200,000 a week wages, if you pay one player that amount, then other players already at the club and further prospective signings will demand more.
We only have a 45,000 seater stadium, massive overheads and owners who are trying to balance the books after saving us from administration.

I must say i have to agree. lets think about it for a second on an economic level, it will cost allot to buy one of the 2spoken about players and the wages would be astronomical but.... everytime a player signs for a club then there is shirts sold and other merchandise but.... everytime a world class player signs for a club there is ridiculous amounts of shirts and merchandise sold! that is where we want to be signing massive proven names that can mingle in with the top class youth talent weve got coming through. if you begin down this road then league titles will come, the champions league will come and more importantly we will be as we should be spoken about at one of the biggest clubs in the world and not just because weve got history. i say lets go down this road and get back to where we want to be. YNWA van shep

06 Jan 2013 09:04:55
The big problem is wages mate, yeah if they fire us into the champions league i'd say get them.

The problem is when players are on huge wages and dont deliver, they become very hard to move on(as Inter Milan are finding out).

It's too big a gamble for a club that spent 12 months reducing the wage bill.

If we knew they'd perform, then yeah i'd say go for it. If they don't, we have a serious drain on funds going on.

In Uniteds case, they have the money to gamble, and Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck as back ups.

WelshBoyDave

Yes, I agree. Lets be honest we have spent enough money wastefully in what managers believed to be young emerging talent. Lets spend money on proven world class players who will benefit the youngsters that BR is bringing through. Also why no response from EDS? {Ed002's Note - No response about what? Sneijder? Try the search function.}

Completely disagree - given our current income and money available to spend it's a huge gamble. United might have taken a risk with Van Persie but given the size of their stadium, continual qualification for the Champions League and huge revenue generated by sponsorships, global commercial sales, etc etc that risk was one they could afford.

We should not take those sort of risks given the state of our finances and stadium - i'd take long term security over short termism like spending huge quantities of money on players that give us no guarantees. I disagree with a number of things FSG has done but their sensible approach to finance is to be commended - we've been run badly for 20 years+ now, we need to be run properly, hopefully FSG can deliver this.

Post lost all credibility with the line "Single handedly won them the league" in reference to RVP. Good grief! How long have you been following football. " You can't and will never win the league in January" ffs!

edds just read something guiillem balagues has wrote negredo avalible 20 million euros and higuian 25 million euros surley we should of been looking at these two i mean higuian would be a huge signing top quality and te out and out forward we need and for wat just over 20 mill£ not saying sturridge wont be sucessfull but id no who i would choose wat u think edds

grego {Ed002's Note - Negredo is certainly available but BR took the Sturridge route. I would not get your hopes up over Higuain moving to Liverpool in January. Perhaps a thought for the summer if the price is good and he is available.}

Higuain for 25 mil should be our number 1 target for Jan or the summer. Devastating player who would dominate with Suarez and Sturridge/Sterling/Ince up front. A creative CAM who can put the ball in the back of the net like Erikson or Boateng should be priority 1a for the summer.

YNWA from the soldiers in Afghanistan!

Cheers edds yeah didnt think he would ha woould be nice in the summuer though. balague seems to tinnk that falco will end up at real madrid hense higuain making way u heard anything cause i thought chelsea were favs for him? also have we ever had interest in higuian cheers

grego {Ed002's Note - There are several clubs interested in Falcao, including both you mention.}

Ed do u think higuain could realistically come to lfc in the summer then? {Ed002's Note - The summer is a long way off. It would depend on interest from elsewhere, if Liverpool has the money, if the manager wants him etc..}

Higuain, oh god here we go again, llorente, cavani, mata, hazard!! It ain't happening.

Aldos tash

Common sense suggests that we would look into buying a player like Higuain only if Suarez were to leave. The thought of them playing together is wonderful but I can't see it happening.

Eds in terms of Holtby agreeing a Pre-Contract with Tottenham, In General terms, not suggesting Liverpool will look to sign Holtby, but can they be broken? By that I mean if Tottenham fail to qualify for CL & say Arsenal, Everton or Liverpool did and one of them was interested, Would they be able to attract Holtby to their club successfully? {Ed002's Note - The thing about a pre-contract is that it is contractual and unless specifics are included it would be a matter for the courts unless both parties agreed to tear it up subject to Force Majure. It has happened on occasion but my advice would be to add him in to the list of players Liverpool has missed out on.}

Didn't something similar happen with Didi Hamann? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he sign a pre-contract with Bolton, when he left us, but Man City wanted him an he went there? {Ed002's Note - You cannot legally sign a pre-contract to a club playing under the same FA.}

Would have been a good signing him, Shame. Thanks for answering my question Ed002

Its odd you say that ed because i saw him today getting off the phone very annoyed and ripping up some paper..... Guys its back on!

If he fails a medical, he is available again.

Piledriver

Who would want him? He has shown no loyalty to his club. He choose spurs for money and nothing else. any player Liverpool have got on a free in recent times have back fired look at the wages each week for Cole and jocovice (excess the spelling ). I fir one only want players at this club for the rite reasons . And that's to play and win for lfc not to be made for life abduction pick up the money each week. Br laid down the law by not giving in siggerson which is now on the bench at spurs picking up a rep a week

Sorry didn't sign above post. marker

Hi ed002,

I know it's unrelated to Liverpool but it is at least better than another post about ince or gamiero. But I saw that barca are likely to sacrifice Sanchez and villa in the summer. Who do you postulate may be their replacements? Neymar perhaps?

Thanks,
Jason {Ed002's Note - Barcelona need to raise some funds through sales but it does not mean like-for-like replacements arriving. They are looking to strengthen in several areas and will also be bringing players through (like Tello) that have been getting experience in the B team, although they do accept some of the B side (e.g. Deulofeu and Roberto) have attracted interest from elsewhere and could be let go. Thios is a little off-the-top of my head right now, and the summer remains a fair distance away, but in defence they have certainly declared an interest in N'Koulou, Hummels, Dede and Chiriches. In midfield I understand that Kovacic, Goetze and Muniain continue to be in the forefront of their thoughts. They have also been watching both Martinez and Oliveira closely for a potential forward role in the squad.}

I can't understand why they would let Sanchez go... He's young and talented. NorthWestBest

05 Jan 2013 18:21:38
has any1 heard about young, spanish starlet iker muniain. he is a great talent, has any1 got any intrest in him. {Ed002's Note - Muniain was touted around the clubs on behalf of Bilbao last January - and the two clubs in England that were approached were Chelsea and Manchester United. The asking price was 40M euros. They won't get it because I don't think clubs would risk half of that on a player who is young and has had some off field issues. If the price comes down to a reasonable level (20M euros might be an acceptable figure) I can see interest from several English clubs including Manchester United. Lyon, Bayern Munich, Napoli and Roma have sustained interest which is still there but I could not see a cash deal involving Lyon as possible at this time. Rumours abound of Juventus and Palermo interest - but perhaps an eventual move to Barcelona beckons.}

Eds do certain teams have like good relationships with other clubs that affect transfers? Like Swansea say br and the owners or the chairman get on well would that affect it? Not saying getting players from Swansea just using an example?

Thanks :) {Ed002's Note - Plenty of clubs build relationships and sometimes that is beneficial for loans, and perhaps transfers on occasion. Chelsea has three players on loan at Vitesse Arnhem at the moment and have had a similar relationship with loans and sales to Hamburg in recent years. Manchester United has sustained a relationship with Royal Antwerp, so yes it happens.}

We used to have a relationship with MTK of Hungary, hence Nemeth, Poleski, Gulacsi and Adjoran coming here

06 Jan 2013 01:21:52
we have a rwlationship with charlton in which we loaned them players and we signed shelvey

05 Jan 2013 18:05:04
Quick question Eds, If Sahin were to leave this window, would we be then allowed to bring in two more on loan or just the one? Thanks in advance.

Brian from Birmingham {Ed002's Note - Two.}

Hey Eds, great site! Shot in the dark here, but any chance of Kevin-Prince Boateng? He's allegedly considering his future in Italian football due to racism and I think he'd be an ideal long-term replacement for Stevie. Presumably out of our price range but perhaps with some sales...cheers! {Ed002's Note - I really can't see it. Perhaps he will have changed his mind if he heads to South Africa and gets some time away.}

"I really can't see it. Perhaps he will have changed his mind if he heads to South Africa and gets some time away."

Ed 02, can you tell me WHY ON EARTH he would go to South Africa, are you telling me that KPB is South African??...btw i am South African!.. {Ed052's Note - ACON?-}

05 Jan 2013 17:48:07
Seeing that we have reduced the wage bill significantly over the past six months (Kuyt, Maxi, Cole, Adam, Bellamy) to name a few. Surely we are in a position to afford David Villa's or Sneijder wages. We need to start attracting big players again to Liverpool and stop signing second rate players such as Borini. I believe Sturridge is a quality signing but we need a landmark signing to put Liverpool on the map again. Ed what are the realistic chances of either Sneijder or Villa signing for us? {Ed002's Note - The Sneijder to Liverpool story comes from an Italian source speculating that Liverpool would be willing to pay Inter 10M euros for Sneijder and the player 240k eruos (a little over £200k) per week to give him 120M euros per week net. This was seemingly added to Twitter by a "journalist" that summarises current rumours on hs Twitter account. I have no confirmation if it is true that Liverpool has approached Inter (or more likely Sneijder's agent) at this time - but suspect that if anything could happen there would need to be very significant movement over his wage demands. The Sneijder to Spurs story comes from a journalist speculating that a sale, not a loan, to Spurs may be possible - but I have no confirmation that it is true at this time. If a move for Moutinho cannot be put together by Spurs - most probably due to financial constraints - an approach to Sneijder does make sense. PSG and Fenerbhace remain two most likely destinations for Sneijder at this time although Schalke 04 have been packaging up an ambitious bid and Bayern Munich has been, I understand, discussing the player in-house. Anzhi and Spartak Moscow retain an interest in him but chances of a move to Russia seem to be near zero. I don't know of any remaining interest from Manchester United. There is a very slim chance that he could make a surprise move somewhere else and discussions have been held with a club on a different continent, but I would supect that is something for the future.

Arsenal are certainly interested in David Villa but I am not aware of any agreement at this time. Given Villa has never wanted to play outside of Spain, is 30+ and no doubt be expensive in terms of insurance and wages, I am not so sure it would be a great move by any EPL club. Whilst he and Sanchez will be sacrificed, I suspect the summer is the more likely time for a move.}

Cheers for reply! I think we should keep our cash for the summer so! We should start looking for one or two top top quality players instead of wasting money on second rate players. On the players we spent big money we have generally got it right (Torres, mascherano, alonso, Johnson etc) with the obvious exceptions of Carroll and acqualini. Cheers Ed

Ed002 "If a move for Moutinho cannot be put together by Spurs - most probably due to financial constraints - an approach to Sneijder does make sense"... how much is Moutinho asking for if the Sneider move would make financial sense for them? {Ed002's Note - The transfer fee being asked by Porto for Moutinho is very significant - 40M euros - and the club would need to make a considerable reduction if anything could be done. Porto of course have a history of seeking significant amounts for players and coaches moving clubs. But Spurs are still pushing for Moutinho.}

Totally agree with the original post it's 100% nailed on. Borini was a complete waste of money and we need to stop settling for average players such as Borini or we will remain a massive club stuck in a mid table pos.

Kalou 0%!

Not really a rumour just an opinion. I do not expect this fella from PSG to sign for Liverpool. All I can say is look at Gaston Ramirez who was 'nailed on' last summer. I expect a move for Thomas Ince and that's all.

Tom

I spoke to Ramirez via a Spanish friend at a party in Southampton and asked why he chose saints over us....apparently Liverpool never approached him at all.

Thats exactly what Im getting at - the club themselves categorically said at a press conference that there was no interest in Ramirez and they had no idea where the rumours were coming from. It's just twitter going mad as usual.

Then when we don't sign them, we get accused of 'missing out'. Its unbelievable

05 Jan 2013 17:12:31
Kevin Gameiro will mostly not be coming to Anfield as Ancelotti has promised him more game time this year. I dont think PSG are ready to sell him or loan him out.
Ince chances of joining us this window have become bleak after he has become cup-tied.
So looks like there will be no more signings this Jan.
Hey eds is there any other player we would be interested in?
Looking at our current squad 6th-7th is looking realistic target at the moment. {Ed002's Note - Being cup tied makes no difference at all to what happens with Ince.}

How does being cup tied have anything to do with the transfer of Ince? Some people amaze me sometimes. So because he can't play for us in the FA cup means he is not needed. Silly logic.
Dani

Gameiro will mostly not be coming to Anfield! Does that mean a bit of him will?

The Plank

Jesus! Who are you you negative mug?!

05 Jan 2013 16:51:33
eds are we anyway intrested in Stefan de Vrij, or is it just wishful thinking

simon hill. {Ed002's Note - Feyenoord's Stefan de Vrij was the subject of interest from Arsenal and Newcastle in the summer and a number of clubs have taken a look at the player this season including Spartak Moscow, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool. Whilst there may be speculation about a January move, a move in the summer seems far more likely. He is club captain where he is and I would think unlikely to want to move anywhere to find his opportunities of playing are reduced.}

05 Jan 2013 16:30:21
hi eds,
hearing that gameiro has agreed to join us, and its all up to psg to say whether they want to let him go or not, have you heard anything in relation to this? would appreciate a reply

cheers
glin b no.9 {Ed002's Note - See earlier answer.}

Isn't that tapping up just a little bit

05 Jan 2013 16:14:05
Surely we must have interest in gameiro! There's too many people claiming we've agreed terms last night, were just waiting on psg. Ed, I know you said you haven't had confirmation but do you think we're interested? {Ed002's Note - From my perspective all of the people who are saying to you that an agreement was reached over terms last night are wrong. Sorry.}

Yes but do you think there's interest for a loan deal in January? {Ed002's Note - See previous answers.}

To help you, the answer is is very very unlikely hes coming .3 0ut of 10 chance 30% chance basically, in simple English he isnt coming.

grim reaper {Ed002's Note - ".3 0ut of 10" is actually 3%.

05 Jan 2013 17:31:44
Sorry thats incorrect! Check you're calculation one more time

.3 out of 10 is 3% like Ed said. however what you were trying to say from what i understand is 'the answer is very very unlikely he's coming. 3/10 chance is 30%'

05 Jan 2013 13:47:44
Ed is it true that madrid have told alonso he can leave? {Ed002's Note - I would not expect anyone to be buying Alonso in January.}

05 Jan 2013 13:21:09
Hi eds, just wondered if u know any info on neymar, as things have seemed 2 have cooled off with a host of clubs after his signature, particularly chelsea and real Madrid, do u no if a move/bids will b made for him in the summer, would love 2see him in the prem
Cheers {Ed002's Note - At present it seems it will be a matter addressed in 18 months time.}

05 Jan 2013 15:20:06
if both gameiro and ince both arrive, expect downing to leave. the money from downing transfer will then be used for a young LB. shennikov being looked at.
lfc77

Neither are coming .....Meanwhile, with Hoarau on his way to China, Carlo Ancelotti has vowed to play Kevin Gameiro more, and ince has just started for blackpool

05 Jan 2013 14:33:29
first time poster but have infomation from a very very reliable source that Liverpool is Tom Ince's first choice

Ince starts in FA Cup today, so will be cup tied if he signs for Liverpool.

This has been going round for ages mate

That's because he only has one choice

Perhaps the eds can tell me but I hadn't heard of any serious interest in Ince other than ours.

The Plank {Ed002's Note - Manchester United also enquired.}

Liverpool were Clint Dempsey's 'first choice'

Whats the point of being the first choice if there is no bid from the club!

05 Jan 2013 14:25:55
we have agreed terms with Gameiro just depends on if PSG are will to loan him to us
Murton Red

The club would have to agree first in order to be able to talk to the player

Gameiro would be a class addition to the squad and could prove some of the best business Liverpool have done in years if it can be pulled off.
He is everything we need fast skilfull instinctive and can finish from a wide forward area IMO would be something of a coup . Would give Rodgers more time to blood the youngsters in a more gradual fashion

Well obviously theyve got Ibrahimovic

05 Jan 2013 13:34:02
First of all the site ist great and Ed002 is brilliant :D your latest answer was epic.

IMO i dont see Gameiro coming in because

- BR said there will MAYBE one more coming in and he was certainly talking about ince

- Gameiro wouldn't be set in first squad ( sterling and downing and borini and sturridge are still there ! ) so could stay at his club PSG anyway

- Nevertheless I think our Squad is good enough for 4th place right mow we need just one more striker to have the deepth in the attack we need for 4th place.

Ince or Gameiro both would fit great
YNWA
blackREDgold

He wasn't talking about Ince, he will not be signing in January.

Adam

Liverpools squad good enough for 4th as it is, you gotta be dreaming mate. Tottenham, Chelsea, Everton, surely better by miles

The squad is good, but not quite 4th right meow.

5th place we will finish

I can see why ppl say it is good enough and that it isnt... when we play good, we can beat any one, we win 4-0, 3-0 and play good football, but we are capable of playing really really bad and get poor results like against aston villa, i personally think we've turned a corner, dowings playing well, suarez is bein suarez, gerrard is starting to play great again, even renia! and with new blood in the shape of struridge this could living things up, i useually have a good feeling about games, i useually guess right when we lose agaisnt small teams, but ive a feeling we can beat utd... :)

I wouldn't say it's good enough for 4th challenging 5-6th I think that's where we are at the moment. To the poster above I would say our squad was better than everton's but that may just be me being biased :P.

Rk

Borini? youve gotta be joking. he signed as a striker and hasnt looked anywhere near like scoring apart from when he hit the post

To the above poster - everton have a strong starting 11 rivalling us but their squad is far from miles better!

And to the borini slater what about his goal v gomel i think it was? don't write players off so soon..

Hi eds have we looked at james mccarthy.surely he should be our top target for the summer.good tackler box to box energy and has an eye for goal.the next stevie g.also whats the story with carroll if w ham stay up are we guaranteed 17 million. {Ed002's Note - No recently as far as we know.}

Hopefully James McCarthy will arrive in the summer, all the attributes to be a Liverpool player
Paisley's genius

West ham have chamakh now

Really like the look of this kid reminds me of a young gerrard.

He's got the potential to be a top player, but would be massively expensive. Whelan doesn't give his players away. Not even to his buddy Taggart.

05 Jan 2013 13:15:40
Hi eds, do u no wot the situation is wiv newcastle and availability of moneyb2spend in this window, as ba out, debuchy in, are they allowed 2put a bid in for big AC if interested?, and if thy haven't got alot of money available 2spend would they be open 2offers for either ben arfa or cabye? + do u no their situation wiv their contracts, how long left and do theybhav any clauses in them?Can u see liverpool being interested in either of these players? Also did we show interest in holtby or put a package together for him, or was it jus spurs that tabled an offer?
Keep up the great work, would love ur feedback
Cheers {Ed002's Note - Carroll is on a year long loan-to-buy deal of some sort at West Ham and I really don't see him moving to Newcastle this month. Equally, Cabaye and Ben Arfa are not going to be moving to Liverpool. Newcastle have been looking at strikers (Austin, Bony, Aubameyang, Hooper et al) and will likely press ahead with a deal for Loic Remy.}

05 Jan 2013 13:11:44
Also rumours suggest we've finished dialogue with PSG on Kevin Gameiro now the ball is in their court on whether they wish to sell/loan. Not sure what we've asked for.

05 Jan 2013 13:10:56
Lille striker Salomon Kalou says Liverpool and West Ham have both been linked with a January move for his signature

05 Jan 2013 17:59:14
If we sign kalou we don't have a clue! Not good enough

All kalou has said is that he is flattered to be linked with a move back to the premiership. That's It!,
the same way aguero, turan, loic remy, gaston ramirez and many more have said.....and none of them happened.
pure speculation and completely unfounded.

05 Jan 2013 12:12:53
Ed02, could we see Isimat Mirin, Gameiro and Ince all arriving this window? Two, who's in pole position for Inan right now?
Lastly, in your opinion, how long do you see it taking us to get back to Champions League?
Thanx. gogoshi {Ed002's Note - (1) Ince I can certainly see arriving. Mirin perhaps, if Coates were to leave. I would not be so sure about Gameiro. (2) I don't think there is anyone in pole right now but Liverpool, Rubin Kazan and Tavriya Simferopol are interested. (3) Liverpool will scrape 4th spot after Shelvey scores an offside goal in the final game of next season. The goal, in the 76th minute, will be allowed to stand - and that provides a return to the CL.}

Haha #3 i hope so ed002 are you the orikal of matrix?

bigW

05 Jan 2013 13:54:30
If number 3 happens ED002 becomes the new Socrates, Nostrodamus and Mayan Empire rolled into one.

Lol lol greatest answer ever haha

Ed you forgot to mention the goal will be against Man U at Old Trafford with Howard Webb a referee.

Quality answer lol

The goal shall cause Chelsea to drop out of the top 4, leaving it with a top 4 of Man C, Man U (realism) and Arsenal, and Ed002 will curse Ba's dodgy knee as a mid season injury crisis leaves them with Torres the only senior forward, leading to their 2nd to 5th place drop in the second half of the season :P

Ska-oop

Not dramatic enough, i predict a man city-esc finish to the season,
two goals in injury time and some fantastic commentary/analysis by Garry Neville, although he is still a prick

05 Jan 2013 17:11:27
Going to have to argue with point (3), Ed. As much as I like your theory, the chances of Shelvey scoring will always be greatly diminished until he learns something about first touch. His is flinchingly poor.

I suspect your crystal ball is just a little off, however, because your scenario sounds right, but rather than watching Shelvey lose the ball and fail to score, I'm optimistic that it'll be Agger potting from offside during a post-corner kick scramble.

I now have a fiver on this at my local bookmakers. I'll let you know how it goes ed, thanks for the tip

RDW

05 Jan 2013 22:47:59
Socrates...didn't he play with Pele ?

On the last day of the season we're at home to QPR I believe.... lightning could strike twice..... {Ed002's Note - You are a season out.}

05 Jan 2013 11:57:57
The Germio deal is reportedly very close, I think he will go through the Premiership like a virus !

Sounds like its gon threw you aswell !!!

05 Jan 2013 13:20:46
I hope nothing like the virus Brendan had

I'm not talking it up but kevin Gameiro reminds me a lot of Bellamy. I cant say i've seen a lot of him this season. But last season when I watched him play I thought he was quite good. Pacey, good finisher and works hard. For a loan signing he wouldn't be have bad. Can the Eds shed some light into if we are interested?
Cheers boys
Jackson8787

He certainly will if he is a germio. Is that an Italian germ?
(I know that he is French)

05 Jan 2013 11:48:52
I've just been told that Liverpool are close to finalizing a deal with French club Valenciennes for the 21 year old Defender Nicolas Isimat Mirin. The deal should go through anytime soon.

Obviously Sebastian Coates will be going out on loan. Once the loan agreement has been arranged everything can be finalised.

05 Jan 2013 11:41:05
Jus a quick one for EDs002, do you think Suarez staying at lfc depends in us achieving a top 4 finish this season or is it more about us showing ambition & seeing who we buy in summer? {Ed002's Note - Macca hinted that the CL qualification would be important and I suspect he is right. Whether or not it would lead to him leaving is another matter.}

I could see Madrid coming in for him as a replacement for Ronaldo.

Hope he stays though, irreplaceable.

Adam

05 Jan 2013 17:32:50
I think it's our form from here that will decide, if we climb into 6th/5th and finish strongly he'll probably see enough to stay (don't underestimate the power of our fans in that decision, we've stood by him through some tough times and he appears to appreciate it). If we continue to flop around the middle of the table I think he'll consider offers in Summer, but it will need to be a club that is willing to build around him and neither Barca or RM are going to do that - PSG may be of interest to him but I can't see how he'd fit with Zlatan.

I would be gutterd if Suarez left I dint think he will this season but if it dose we should demand at least 60-70 million and invest it all bk into the team.

05 Jan 2013 11:38:51
Hi eds, now that Kevin Prince Boateng is contemplating leaving Italy, do u think he could be a possibility to fill the more advanced midfield role in our lineup?

Cheers {Ed002's Note - No, I rather think Suso will play there when needed.}

Is this move possible though?

Suso is good but wait until Texeira gets a chance, this lad is potential world class.
IMHO one of the best prospects I have seen.
Feet have to be firmly fixed to the ground though.
Ibe looks as good if not better than Stirling and a bigger frame

05 Jan 2013 10:24:36
Ed002, the thing i don't understand is that at the start of september everyone was saying how thin our squad was including owners/BR, but based on the expected transfer dealings eg ins:sturridge, ince, foward on loan outs:cole, coates on loan, sahin contract cancelling we are hardly adding anyone to the squad. Surely if we are able to cancel sahins contract we must look for another midfielder? otherwise we have not actually added numbers to what even the manager said was an extremely small squad {Ed002's Note - I think if you look to the central midfield there are plenty of players on the books who could play there in addition to Sahin. Henderson, Lucas, Gerrad, Shelvey and Allen spring to mind. If Liverpool do want to somehow let Sahin go then unless agreement can be reached with Real Madrid, the player and another club, Liverpool shall remain responsible for a large proportion of his wages. I suspect many folks had very high expectations for January and are feeling frustration that they have not been met.}

Ed002, i agree with u about expectations. i think it largely comes from what werner said a few weeks ago when he implied that the fans would be very impressed by what the club do in the jan window. When in actual fact at the end of the summer we were trying to sign sturridge and dempsey so all we are really doing this jan seems to be playing the players we should have got at the end of the summer, which is very dissapointing for the fans? {Ed002's Note - I have always encouraged supporters to avoid hanging off every word uttered by club officials. They don't think as much about what they are going to say before saying something as folks think about what they have said after the fact.}

Not me i think now would be the wrong time to go mad its january so you will pay more finally our flops are starting to play..so once players can be rested when necessary.we will be alright! That said..if the summer comes and we get fed this tight budget crap il be pissed off they gave kenny and commoli the torres money to blow the fans didnt blow it and neither did the players.apparently there buisness men.take it LIKE MEN and move on

Also we can always call back Jay Spearing from his loan. Can't we?

Dont start with jay spearing, id rather have connor coady step up han him

Thin is brilliant. It allows him to develop players like Hendo without depriving top notch players.

05 Jan 2013 10:20:43
Blackpool winger Tom Ince is on the verge of completing his move to Liverpool, reports . The Championship club have lowered their price tag from £8m and a deal is expected to be completed at around the £5-6m mark. Liverpool had an offer for Ince rejected last month.

05 Jan 2013 10:19:55
Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates will be allowed to leave Liverpool on loan if the club can find adequate cover.

According to the Liverpool Echo, manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed the 22-year-old is in need of regular first-team football and would be happy to allow him out of Anfield on a short-term deal.

Carra keeping Seb out of team! Seb on loan - ok - but we must not sell him. He has settled in with Lucas and Suarez socially. Still only 22 yo.

05 Jan 2013 10:16:48
hi eds,

is it true arsenal have agreed a deal with barca for villa, 12.5mil?

and if so, were liverpool in for him or was it all paper talk?

j {Ed002's Note - Arsenal are certainly interested in David Villa but I am not aware of any agreement at this time.}

05 Jan 2013 10:06:09
Hey eds,
heard a couple of rumours that ricardo quaresma is now a free agent, and his agwnt has offered him to liverpool and a couple of other clubs? Do u have any information on this? im sure he'd want 100,000 a week, but liverpool gave joe cole that sort of money for gods sake! {Ed002's Note - Quaresma has struggled somewhat since leaving Porto where much was expected of him when he was younger. Since leaving Porto he has been much lower profile and has had a number of clubs but not really settled. As he has had his contract with Besiktas cancelled he is a free agent and will probably be heading back to the Iberian peninsula - I will take a shot at saying with Porto but there is interest from Valencia as well.}

I wouldn't go near quaresma there is obviously an issue with his attitude & doubt he is going to suddenly change at nearly 30 years of age, it appears that Tom ince wants to come & wants to play, was not exactly impressed with some of his fathers antics while he was at the club, but should judge Tom on his in merits if or when he comes. Keep red y.n.w.a jft96
Paisley's genius

The only consistent thing that queresma has done since leaving porto is eat cakes!!
makes neil ruddock look like a svelte ballerina.!

Hi ed(s) is there any intrest in Ruben castro of real betis. He looks like a real talent {Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any interest and he must be well in to his 30s now.}

05 Jan 2013 09:22:08
Mirin, Ince, Gamiero(Loan with a view to buy), should all arrive.

Moves will be made for Butland if other clubs do so but we are hoping to wait till summer.

Expect movements for Walcott late on if contract is still not sorted.

Coates will go on loan to West Brom and Sahin will go to Dortmund.

Cheers Eds,

05 Jan 2013 11:47:21
No nobody else will sign

05 Jan 2013 09:16:43
Hi guys,

There are rumours of downing being reunited with his ex manager martin o neill at Sunderland. .they are looking at season loan with Liverpool holding for permanent move..downing himself is not sure but his people advising him to move on..if he moves can see us replacing him with another winger..no idea who but would love isco from malaga

Harry Oldbury

Downing is in brilliant form!

05 Jan 2013 08:54:37
Ed, Any interest in Carlos Bacca? He is scoring for fun. {Ed002's Note - Not that I am not aware of from Liverpool.}

05 Jan 2013 08:54:13
are reporting that Liverpool are close to agreeing a fee with Blackpool between 5-6 million for Tom Ince.

Mighty reds

05 Jan 2013 08:50:53
Hi eds
Not related to us, but which clubs are tracking Bent?

Cheers
VGRed {Ed002's Note - I understand that Southampton and Fulham have made enquiries regarding Darren Bent.}

05 Jan 2013 08:47:19
Eds u say Liverpool wer interested in galas selcuk inan do u think it would b jan or possible summer target also do u know of any interest in the young centre half semih kaya looks a good player too thanks mate! {Ed002's Note - Fortuna Dusseldorf and Inter have shown interest in Galatasaray's Semih Kaya but a move in January is most unlikely.}

05 Jan 2013 08:41:57
A few reports knocking about today of us making an enquiry for Micah Richards? Can any of the eds shed any light on this?

Regards

wigan red {Ed002's Note - I can't, sorry.}

We've a bout 20 RB's and no LB's, can't see why we'd spend money we haven't got in abundance in a position we've Johnson, Wisdom, Kelly who can play there.

05 Jan 2013 08:13:35
Will keep it quick n simple eds, do u believe assaidi will be sold or go on loan? Strange 1 if it does happen but lots of speculation on the net

Daniellambretta {Ed002's Note - I don't see him being sold in January. He will be off to South Africa any time now so a loan is probably not on the cards.}

05 Jan 2013 07:31:47
Eds,
Need ur opinion on this.
-according to certain report, David Villa if he goes to England he would like to play for Liverpool. Currently his agent is talking to Lfc & arsenal. is it true?

-Rodgers said there maybe no more signings? that means 12m is our budget this transfer? or do you expect couple player arrive on loan?

-what about Tom Ince? heard that he's going to hand in transfer req to push deal through. U got any info on this?

Joshua. {Ed002's Note - (1) I don't know of any discussions with Liverpool at this time. (2) I will stick by what I have said all along - Sturridge, Ince and possibly one on loan. (3) I know nothing of a transfer request, but I still think there is every chance he will join.}

05 Jan 2013 06:46:28
RUMOURED that David Villa is set to join Arsenal for 12.5m.

05 Jan 2013 03:24:11
Kevin Gameiro looks likely, but Ince deal is close to being broken down.

Looks like Gameiro on a 6 month loan and that will be the end of our business this window.

05 Jan 2013 02:39:43
Tottenham have signed Lewis Holtby on a pre-contract agreement. Excellent piece of business for them. Spurs have a great team.

Yes, and thanks to FSG we slip further behind them in quality. Their ground is smaller, fan base much smaller and their owners bank accounts smaller still. FSG still refuse to invest. {Ed002's Note - Liverpool's net spending in recent years is much higher than that of Spurs.}

Why not support spurs then if they have a great team. i support our club. so when we are a great team again will you come back to us then?
robbie

Go and support them then, don't worry what other clubs are doing, spurs haven't got no scouting team they just pick up the daily star and see who is after who and jump in... He could be another sigurdsson lol lucky escape for us I think

Sigurdsson or Dempsey haven't exactly set the world on fire, though I'd have preferred us to have signed Dembele.

Holtby is totally untried. As a bitter from a colony of bitters, it was always going to be a long shot, and let's not overlook the fact that many foreign players, or those coming from abroad, like the idea of living in London.

Spurs have a great team? yeah ok mate

Lets be honest here, Liverpool have a great team here no doubt. Infact so much so that you remove Bale and Lennon and Spurs are hanging on in midtable. However if you remove Gerro and Luis we would be in a similar position!!. It however still baffles me how he chose Spurs offer....

To reply #1

How do you know so much about the state of Spurs' finances? There could be any number of reasons why he has chosen Tottenham over us. Perhaps he was given more assurances about playing time. Perhaps the locale was a consideration or maybe the wages were better.

Maybe he wanted to play alongside Bale or maybe we had other targets.Liverpool have missed out on players before and will do so again in the future. Get over it and stop looking for reasons to bitch about FSG. Support the players and staff that are happy to represent the red shirt.

Robbie's Noseband

05 Jan 2013 02:28:40
Rossi joins fiorentina. I'm sure he's still injured. How much was he? Am sad we didn't go for him. I know fans r fickle n want every1. But it was the best tym to get him on the cheap. I doubt he wld cost same as injured AC. Probably less by miles. {Ed002's Note - He cost 10M euros.}

And is an exx manc, so no

05 Jan 2013 01:35:57
hi eds is there any interest in rapheal varane from liverpool or any other club? def a player for the future {Ed002's Note - I don't see there being any chance of Real MAdrid selling Varane.}

05 Jan 2013 01:04:09
benat etxebarria anyone got anything on this on, looks a classy player? {Ed002's Note - If Benat moves in January then Atletico Madrid might by an option. CSKA, Chelsea, Arsenal and Wolfsburg have shown some interest in him. Txiki Begiristain has, as reported, an interest in taking him to Manchester City. It is beginning to look like the summer would be more likely.}

Posted about two weeks ago that we were interested and told I was wrong, but mark my words, we will make an offer

05 Jan 2013 14:01:50
Benat is likely to move to Athletic Bilbao if he stays in Spain. They habe money to burn after the sale of Javi Martinez. He is Basque and wants to play for them.

Atletico Madrid have no money. They are in debt to the tune of over 500 million euros. Of which 155 million is owed to the taxman. I doubt they have the financial resources to pay for Benat. Goverment being pressed to recoup all monies owed from football clubs.

Orrin

05 Jan 2013 00:21:09
An old story which i saw after someone posted about selcuk inan and i looked him up and liverpool scouts impressed with him and teamate burak yilmaz

05 Jan 2013 00:13:58
Hey Ed

As BR has said he plans to sign a quality no10 in the summer, do you see liverpool showing serious interest in signing selcuk inan from galatasaray? I think he's very very good and I might say worldclass. Also, are any other clubs intersted? Thanx

LFC CPT {Ed002's Note - Galatasaray's Selcuk Inan has been interesting Rubin Kazan, Liverpool and Tavriya Simferopol but I cannot see anything happening before the summer.}

Ed do you see inan as a CAM ?
he looks more of a deep lying playmaker. {Ed002's Note - He is a midfield player - I don't necessarily see all of these new fangled CAM, DLP, RDMGF type roles that others do.}

05 Jan 2013 00:11:06
Supposedly a deal was agreed for D. Villa last January but then he broke his shin bone.

He won't be moving this transfer window however as his wife is close to giving birth.

04 Jan 2013 23:47:52
Eds if walcotts doesn't sign a deal with arsenal could we have a chance getting him {Ed002's Note - I would not expect Walcott to be moving to Liverpool in January.}
