Away from the discussion of yesterday's game, Eds italy seems to be producing a raft of talented young goalkeepers-mattia perin, simone scuffet, nicola leali, cragno, di gennaro. are liverpool watching or interested in any of them?

{Ed002's Note - There are a number of clubs interested in Perin - who may well move but won't be cheap.}

Italy have always had really good keepers. I can't remember a time when Italy didn't have at least one international keeper who would be first choice most other places but couldn't get into the starting line

I can understand the argument that the performance offered an upgrade on the usual defensive shambles; still grave errors in the back four but we looked a bit more competent with the discipline of the midfield and the resultant ability to pick up the second/ lose ball on the edge of the box.

However, to sing from the rooftops about Borini and argue his performance is a case for a start on Saturday amazes me. What did he do besides run diagonally? The lad couldn't trap a bag of cement and I don't think he worked their keeper once!

The only positive to come out of that was the midfield for me. I could see what Ted was out to do and with a bit more quality, we could've pulled off a snatch and grab. If we had a striker who could hold the ball up and run the channels we may have got something. It's the lack of quality up top that's hurting us now. Put Sterling in for Markovic from the start and a striker of Costas profile in that starting 11 and who knows how it may have gone.

Bad bad move neglecting the front line like he has. Question for Ed002 if he's about. If We'd sold Borini to Sunderland for the reported £14mill, I'm presuming we would have brought in another striker.

I know we enquired about Lavezzi and I understand he was available for circa £18 mill. Would this have been something we would have looked at or would it have been the usual punt on a kid for resale purposes?

{Ed002's Note - I don't believe that there would have been any other striker beyond Balotelli so Borini would not have been replaced per se. Liverpool are overstocked by one striker even before you look to the capabilities of Sterling and Markovic. There was certainly nothing serious about Liverpool's interest in Lavezzi - who is closer to the likes of Markovic than being an out and out striker.}

How can you slag off borini for last night? He didn't do anything amazing but what u expect when we just thump it out of box and ask him to go chase it for 90 mins i think he may deserve a chance up front with balo but not because of hi sperfomwnce last night and markovic was a lot better last night he showed a bit of promise

We definitely didn't just thump it out of the box for 90mins, and just because Borini looks good in comparison to Balloteli at the minute doesn't mean that he's not the same player we were all offering to drive to Sunderland when they made a bid for him. He's still not good enough, he's just a slightly better option, and that's being kind.

I agree on Borini, the lad is basically a poor mans Kuyt. I wasn't the Dutch fellas biggest fan either as running around a lot and giving 100% should be the bare minimum, it's the quality to go with it we need.
Markovic although young is as soft as they get, my Mother could beat him in a 50/50! I would definitely play Lucas and if he has to play (don't think he does) put Gerrard more advanced. We have to play two up top as Balotelli and Borini are not good enough, Lambert does a job but we need a firing Sturridge desperately.
