Any truth we are after Lanzini?

What an underwhelming coutinho replacement if true.

Took the words rite out my mouth, when he joined no one knew anything about him he hardly played any 1st team football an was raw as hell, the platform of LFC helped him too progress too the world class level he at now, all players start somewhere lanzini could b a great player for us, different gravy playing for LFC under klopp than westham an Moyes.

Agree10 Disagree23

08 Jan 2018 19:33:30
Fatboy-He certainly wasn’t an underwhelming purchase, it was seen fairly perculiar as to why inter got rid, obviously not many thought he would be as good as he is but a lot had high hopes.

I am sorry for asking about a random player i know ed002 hates that but that guy Ironmike from the west ham page is adamant we are bidding for him and he usually knows a thing or two.

08 Jan 2018 19:58:11
Actually no he is not the answer his form is not great also he only a year younger than coutihno an no where near him I ability , lemar keita cabellos mahrez for me but we won't get any of them in January.

08 Jan 2018 19:59:15
I’ll support Klopp but god I hope not every time I’ve watched him he’s been pretty absent bar the odd pretty goal.

Agree6 Disagree4

08 Jan 2018 20:10:41
Yeah he’s usually pretty reliable for West Ham news.

He does say we are chasing Lemar as our priority tho.

Wouldn’t be totally against Lanzini price dependent. He’s got a lot of work to do but he shows flashes of some good stuff.

Agree8 Disagree7

08 Jan 2018 23:00:26
Lanzini is a one half decent game in seven or eight at best. He is in no way compareable to Coutinho and his situation when we bought him. Given that Coutinho was accepted as being one of the biggest talents in Brazil that a lot of top teams had chased but had stagnated at Inter and we got him when he was 21ish and still had lots of room to develop. Lanzini is 25 and this is as good as he’s going to get.

I actually remember when Couts was a very popular player. But that was last week according to twitter he is now a snake. (Thats the polite version ) I suppose that I shouldn't be surprised considering the amount of morons about.

Agree7 Disagree3

09 Jan 2018 00:19:20
Couts wasn't underwhelming when he first signed, not a lot at inter thought he would progress into what he is today. He was still quick and good with the ball and more importantly young. Lanzini is definitely not the answer for us!

09 Jan 2018 00:51:30

Coutinho showed glimpses of his promise as soon as he signed for us I remember some classy assists for Sturridge. Those two really created a great partnership before sturridges injuries.

Eds any substance in the Strootman rumours?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I don't know of any interest being shown by Liverpool and I only hear rumours here, but Roma are looking to raise funds and have a number of players they will listen to offers for - and certainly Strootman is one. He has kept fit for the past couple of years after a tough time. So we will see. Roma has a couple of targets but they can do little until they have funds in hand and after flying close to serious FFP problems in the past couple of years need to be careful They have a prized asset they want to keep and have others like Strootman who could be a source of funding. For me, I would see it as an unusual option for Liverpool at this time of the year.}

08 Jan 2018 16:11:48
Who's the prized asset?

Finding it difficult looking at their squad who that would be.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Lorenzo Pellegrini.}

08 Jan 2018 16:30:14
Now this would be interesting, a double deal for Strootman and Allison! Migs going the other way permanently and a loan deal for a young midfielder.

Oh wait, its not FIFA!

Would be good though!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Alisson is not one of the players they are looking to sell in January as has been made clear to the club who enquired.}

There's something on twitter from (as far as I can see) an Italian site called Premiumsporthd. it.

From what Ed002 has said above, it is not impossible. However, Strootman would be cup-tied for the CL, and Roma are still in it.

It's an idea that seems to have come from a Spanish on-line magazine called Diario Gol that was in turn re-gurgitated by the UK's Express newspaper.

Is groundless speculation that because of Coutinho, one of Barca's front line will have to leave to make room and he (Suarez) is probably the easiest to move.

Good Day ED's Not sure if you got my last post. When I wish you all a happy new year and thanks you all for doing such a great job. ED1 I sent you my condolences on your loss.
My question was any update on Daniel Sturridge.?

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Thanks for your nice words. There is noything n ew on Sturridge as far as I am aware. Money would be an issue for Real Betis if they had to pay his wages on loan. Besiktas are looking to add a striker but are concerned about fitness. Newcastle want Ings but Sturridge may work on a some sort of financially beneficial deal, but right now their futhure is still unresolved.}

08 Jan 2018 15:21:46
Not the types of clubs he would have been linked to a couple of years ago - such a shame for the guy and his injuries have massively impacted him (and Liverpool)

Agree11 Disagree1

08 Jan 2018 15:38:20
SG in response though Sturridge is renowned for making the most of the slightest issue not to play. From a clubs perspective to have the £100k plus a week wages off the bill would be a benefit to replace with someone else of more time for Dom S.

Sturridge's time is done and he has to accept some of that is the consequence of his own decisions.

Agree14 Disagree2

08 Jan 2018 16:08:29
I hear you and agree it’s time to move on JC, but would also note that if every time you played with a niggle you got an injury that put you out for a couple of months you’d be a bit paranoid too.

Not saying he’s right to take that view or not, and agree he’s made of glass, but I’m sure he would rather play than not.

Agree7 Disagree2

08 Jan 2018 17:12:45
Yes that would be a case however the hypochondriac levels and pre-madonna stages have "apparently" been to an extreme in DS case.

Every player should want to play when possible and no doubt he had some injuries that meant he could not but far too many times when reports/ rumours suggest he could have easily played and yet would abstain from training etc and have to spend time abroad to recover.

I could be unjustly apportioning slander in his direction but when you read so much and correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure the Eds have also alluded to this in the past its hard to avoid the "no smoke without fire" assumption.

Anyway let's hope we get some decent return and release the wages to re-invest where needed.

All the best.

Agree5 Disagree3

08 Jan 2018 19:50:24
Sturridge isn’t a bad player, isn’t a bad person to have at the club and isn’t a bad guy either, however he does have a high wage considering he hardly ever plays and as much of that is due to him being made of glass, as it is him being injured.

As one of the others above has stated, he is known to not need much to go off sick, even Klopp pretty much said he needed to strap a pair on!

I wish the lad well but think his time at Liverpool is done now.

Agree2 Disagree1

09 Jan 2018 00:15:36
Give him a pay as you play contract. That will be fair.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jan 2018 17:20:03
Cheers JC and you too.

Agree let’s hope we can get something for him and he goes on to play somewhere regularly while we can move on too with someone that is more robust and can fit our system better.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jan 2018 11:24:18
Do we genuinely have interest in Alisson?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Roma has admitted an approach from one side (not Liverpool) and they know of interest of others - which may well include Liverpool, but certainly includes barcelona.}

08 Jan 2018 12:12:02
Thanks Ed. He looks like a very very good keeper. Hope we’re interested.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I think there is interest and certainly he is well thought of having previously been of interest to the Manchester sides and Juve.}

08 Jan 2018 12:31:31
Would be a good shout. He’s big, agile and commands his area well. He is keeping Ederson out of the Brazil team so he is no mug.

08 Jan 2018 13:38:27
Even as a summer target, a good choice.

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Jan 2018 14:20:11
If we're going to make a real challenge next year we've got to be in for a quality keeper. I'd add to that a new CB to play with VvD, a creative type midfielder to replace little Phil (you all know the options by now), another midfield pivot to play alongside Keita and another striker - we'd look a little short up top if we had long term injuries. So 5 1st team additions - good enough to go straight in the team.

I'm assuming 1 or 2 of our current keepers will be allowed to find new clubs (Migs and Bogdan? ) + Can (shame - always liked his endeavour) and Sturridge. Possibly Wijnaldum and Ings may also be considered surplus + 1 of Lovren or Matip.

Obviously there may also be others leaving which I assume will help with FFP and getting those 5 new faces in.

Here's hoping. Either way I trust Klopp to do what he can with the tools at his disposal. I just won't understand it if he doesn't prioritise a new keeper. C'mon Jurgen - you played centre half - you must know the significance of a quality, organising, brave keeper? Makes the whole back line better.

Agree7 Disagree0

08 Jan 2018 14:27:10
I still think we’ve missed a chance with Ward. Question for the Ed’s, I know it has been said on here that Ward isn’t happy and wants to go somewhere where he will play, but do you know what the view of him at the club is? Do the coaches rate him as a potential EPL keeper? Thanks.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Well it seems Klopp has apparently told him he will be number one in the future. But I suspect he was fibbing. Typically clubs will use older experienced goalkeepers as third choice and have them giving advice and working with the youth and younger goalkeepers - but that is not how it works at Liverpool.

He is third choice right now and needs to look to move on in the summer.}

08 Jan 2018 14:31:08

I think that was the point SGR!

Agree4 Disagree1

08 Jan 2018 15:06:58
Thanks Ed002, big shame about him not getting that chance. Out of interest is there a deliberate policy of 3 relatively younger keepers or just how it has worked out?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I think you will find two of Liverpool's four registered PL GKs are around 30.}

08 Jan 2018 15:32:20
Hope you’re well Ed.

I have heard a rumour from a deep source that Klopp wasn’t fibbing to Ward, but it’s actually the players attitude since arriving back at the club that has cost him a first team place, or at least a shot at it. Not sure how true this is though.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - So why would Klopp tell him he will be number one? His attitude probably relates to a very good loan being destroyed by Klopp (who then didn't play him) and the a season long loan being rejected by Klopp (who then didn't play him). Klopp then tells him he is number 3 (so the chance to sit on the bench in the League Cup) and then Klopp tells him he will be number one in the future. There appears to be a trend here.}

08 Jan 2018 15:39:19
Ward, Bogdan and Mingolet all need to leave for various reasons. Obviously not all at once.

Wish Ward well he will be a top keeper.

Agree4 Disagree1

08 Jan 2018 15:53:44
I don't like what Klopp's done with Ward, but he could fix the situation by playing the lad. I mean, it's not like Mignolet or Karius have set the world alight here. Sure, throwing him in at the deep end wouldn't be fair, but he at least deserves a start somewhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He deserved to stay in Scotland and then deserved time playing for the first team at Huddersfield. I don't think he will get the chance at Liverpool Amerigo.}

08 Jan 2018 15:55:14
A fair point well presented Ed. A shame as the boy has definitely played well during his loan spells.

Are you going to promise me a starting position in the charity match and then bench me instead.?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I need to get on to that - I am running around for other reasons for a few days but at the end of the week I will be on to it. Or my PA will.}

08 Jan 2018 17:11:16
Says something that Mignolet is so far from where you expect an experienced keeper to be that I’d forgotten he is is almost 30 already.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jan 2018 17:25:20
Was obvious from the start the decision on Ward was a poor one, he could have played a full prem season with huddersfield (and a starting position in prem is a very rare opportunity for a young keeper) .

If he’d performed we could bring him back in the summer as no.1 with a full year of experience and prem tested, as it is we have no idea if he can cope. Feel very sorry for the lad.

Why would anyone ask that on the back of the FA investigation this week following the Derby?!?! I hardly think it’s priority number one right now!

Agree0 Disagree17

08 Jan 2018 11:25:06
Its priority no. one right now to make sure your important players are tied down to a long term contract and are happy.

The investigation is just a formality. The real investigation should be how holgate did see red for that push.

Agree16 Disagree0

08 Jan 2018 11:55:13
Fair enough PakRed. I can’t believe he wasn’t sent off or even get a yellow either, but subject to the outcome the dust would have to settle first before the thorny issue of a contract is approached.

Agree3 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - Firmino is contracted until 2020.}

08 Jan 2018 12:05:01
But in the end, how good is a long term contract. Both Suarez and Coutinho had been handed new improved and extended contracts multiple times. If a player wants out, he will eventually get on, one way or another. The only difference is that we can ask a higher price. I thinkbthe only way to avoid, or limit these enforcements, is to put in a sanctnificant sanction or fine for the player, if he mistreats his contract in a certain aspecs. But what "worldstar" would sign such deal, properly noone. Sometimes I would like football to have a draft system like in the NBA or NFL. Player prices and buyout clauses should be capped and priced by evaluation.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jan 2018 12:53:20
I think these long terms contracts mean little regarding the player actually staying with the club, however, they do ensure the club gets top dollar when the player goes.

Agree5 Disagree0
