Hey Eds, is there any interest in ourselves in Ruben Neves, he is a class Defensive Midfielder and reports seem to be gathering a bit today. I would love for this to be true, he would have a lot to offer to our midfield, like his passing range, etc. He would carry a big price tag, like porto players do, but is it a possiblity
Thanks for everything you do on here.
Great site.

{Ed002's Note - Is it a Porto player a day now: Porto's Ruben Neves is subject to sustained interest from Chelsea, passing interest from Manchester City, PSG, Real Madrid and another English side, not Liverpool. Porto has no interest in selling unless a very significant offer is made - and the asking price might well scare most clubs away. It was suggested Liverpool looked at him earlier in the year but Porto are unaware of any specific interest.}

If we only play 40-45 games (depending on cup progress), why are we being linked with so many players. Surely the club would have to ship out players now rather than buying.

Its that time of the year kwk, always happens. Transfer window hasn't opened yet and were linked with everyone! When the window opens people will be on their way out.

Zielinski wants to stay in Seria A next season with Napoli interested in signing him. Mamoud Dahoud is now the main target to replace Joe Allen. Jonas Hector would be perfect for Liverpool but unfortunately they have dropped there interest due to the £24m price tag. Liverpool have tracked Ben Chilwell for months and he is likely to cost around £4m which seems far more realistic as Liverpool look to save money for other targets. Mario Gotze remains the number 1 target this summer but we will have to wait till after the Euros to see if that deal is possible. Any other players we are looking at? Tony Barrett, James Pearce, Paul Joyce and Melissa Reddy have all got links within the club and have confirmed interest in the players mentioned. If we get those 3 I think that'll be it for the summer business and the club will focus on clearing out unwanted players as we have no European football next year, another centre half maybe if Toure is not offered a one year deal as Skrtel and Ilori look nailed on to leave. Liverpool will be hoping to recoup at least £20m for Benteke but they may have to let Balotelli leave or free if no club puts an offer in for him.

Good summary. I don't think Dahoud will come though.

If you listen to what the eds have been saying for months, all those players have been massively discussed here. We don't journalists to confirm what we already know thanks to the eds.

Chilwell would be a fantastic signing.

Forget spending big when we can get this lad in his position.

If he signs he will surprise many.

No chance of dahpud unless we qant to spend 30 mil. I would be happy with that and a loan for siqueria.

Dahoud to replace Joe Allen?
What about Grujic? Stewart? Brannagan?

Joe Allen is not a regular first team starter and we don't need more players to replace him (if he leaves)

I just don't see Gotze coming. I thought it was possible with the Klopp relationship, but then what transpired recently suggests he is not.

It's been reported that Struth, his former agent, was pushing for a move to either BvB or Liverpool.

Gotze firmed that agent.

My guess is that Gotze *will* move somewhere, but he's hoping that a good Euros will lead to offers from other teams who are in better shape than us (eg, not mid table and selling our best player in Coutinho), and can offer CL.

And if no such offer will come, I think he'll stay at Bayern try to force his way into Ancelotti's starting XI this season, and then move elsewhere on a free next season. Bayern obviously want to sell him and not lose him for nothing next year, hence the comments from ownership/ Ancelotti. But if Gotze doesn't agree to a move, then there's nothing they can do about it.

I think an offer from Gotze *will* come from somewhere else, given that Bayern will likely reduce their ask on fee to force a move.

Last season Liverpool suffered a lot owing to the fact that some of our players got injured. we nearly turned some of our strikers to defenders and at a time Sturridge, Ings and Original were in Physio. Just because we are not going to Europe doesn't mean we don't have anything to play for. We need trophies this season. We will definitely get those recruitments.

I know it is not as simple as this but I find it ridiculous how players now are so attracted to a club just because it is in the Champions League. It's importance is so hyped and players go to clubs who have little to no chance of actually winning the thing. And I would put all the English clubs into that group.

Dortmund will be in the CL next season though. Gotze is just after as much money as he can get.

I wouldn't read to much into what he says in the papers it means nothing.

He'd be better listening to his agent they know best. just ask raheem.

I certainly agree CL is not everything; in fact, you can ameliorate that problem by offering sky high wages and deals for players, while showing ambition in the transfer market. This is essentially how City got to where they are now. Unfortunately, FSG are unwilling to compete with "oil money" as their executives like to call it. They don't offer those sky high wages. So, we have neither that, nor CL, nor title contention, nor Europe, nor nice weather to attract talent.

We have Klopp, of course, but it's clear that's not enough, even to get Gotze; a player who owes much to Klopp for his development.

Ed, I was wondering with Dortmund being opening to sell Mkhitaryan at the right price and with us wanting to buy a winger if we have had
any interest in him.
Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of. He and Klopp did not see eye to eye at Dortmund.}

It was not that long ago that he had a little dig at klopp about his tactics and how Tuchel has the team and him playing better football etc. I think he said it was something to do with the football being more intelligent or something. Before we played Dortmund.

Leekyanyew

Belief in a manager is good but blind belief is not good.

Even here in this site while Ed01 is very fond and holds Klopp in high regard whereas Ed02 has her own reservations and is not entirely sold on 100%.

I believe there is nothing wrong in questioning the manager and it is not a sin to be ridiculed.

To me Klopp is 100% good when he is handling press conferences where he is very clear and says things as they are with respect to performance on the pitch.

However like Ed02 I am not 100% convinced with respect to his tactics and antics on the touchline.

Cheers,
Samikewell.

09 Jun 2016 10:15:54
He's not 100% good at anything, no-one is. He's a genuine, honest man who will make mistakes ; but he's not trying to con anyone.
His antics on the touch line are designed to inspire his players and the crowd. He's trying to create an atmosphere where the players will compete. He's passionate and he doesn't hold back when expressing it because he feels passion is an important part of competing.
He spent a playing career and 14yrs management in Germany. He's had 8 months in England. Of course his tactics will need tweaking but he needs to be given a chance.
Too early to judge Klopp, but whichever way it goes I'll be behind him all the way.

Any interest in Mane?

Thanks.

Believable6 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - Knowing where the original story came from you can be assured that tehre is interest from Liverpool.}

I really hope not. Same old Liverpool policy. linked with higuain, gotze, hector, we actually get rondon, mane, and Gibbs. brilliant.

Hey ed, many apologies, but I was traveling abroad when the original Mane story broke out, and when I was back the search engine returned far too many answers - so where DID the story come from, and IS there interest from Liverpool?

Also, I heard that Klopp changed the frame of his glasses, which means that we are selling Benteke, and replacing him with Maradona.

{Ed002's Note - It is unimportant where it came from Drigan.}

08 Jun 2016 15:59:50
No interest in Mane. Far, far too inconsistent and overpriced for what he brings, which isn't much when you look closely.

Mane went from December until March with 0G, 1A. That's an 18 game stretch, literally half of the season, with Southampton's "star" winger literally offering Kolo Toure level offensive production.

He finished the season with 11G. "Not bad! " you say. But wait! On closer look, Mane literally scored more than half of his total goals (6 of them! ) for the entire season in the final 5 games, playing teams who mostly had nothing left to play for. For example, 3 of those 6 goals came against Man City's second string team, because by that game, there was nothing to play for.

However, in the previous 32 games, he had 5 goals. Woeful.

In fact, Mane did it last year too, scoring 4 goals in the final few games, 3 against an Aston Villa side who had nothing to play for. He seems to really wrack it up against weaker sides when there's nothing on the line.

Nothwithstanding these obvious shortcomings, I fully expect Mane to be our "marquee" winger signing, because FSG/ LFC can't seem to close a summer signing deal to save their life outside the EPL, but are happy to pay through the nose for overvalued EPL players.

I'd be interested in Mane if he would cost 5m. But Southampton are asking 40m. But we'll pay through the nose, and sign him to ridiculous wages, and then complain about his inconsistency when Mane disappears for 15 games at a time. It'll be Benteke all over again. And yet, the inconsistency was always there for anyone to see.

Agree21 Disagree10

08 Jun 2016 16:54:23
I can see why Mane is of interest.

He's quick (much needed)
He good in front of goal (needed)
He presses (prerequisite for klopp team)
Decent in the Air (useful plus)

Cons
player for southampton is not a con

He is inconsistent.
Discipline (but not in Balotelli league)

You pick any player and their will be cons. Mane has much of what Liverpool need and could be an excellent addition. If he consistently plays at his top level he will be a star. And that's for Klopp and the player himself to work on.

We need a player like this. I'm gutted we didn't get Dembele but Mane is a decent replacement for a player of this type.

I simply think Mane will improve our team and give a different dimension.

Who would you rather?

Agree0 Disagree7

09 Jun 2016 16:55:47
Also Price is much like Club comparisons.

You can't compare Mane and Benteke because they might cost the same.

Much like you can't compare Lallana and Mane because they both came from Southampton. You can only look at the attributes of a player and see what that brings to the table.

For me, If Klopp thinks Mane is worth a price, then I'm ok with it. I can see why he would be interested. that's all I'm saying.

If he doesn't feel like purchasing him for a high price, I can see the risk and understand.

Unltimately, Klopp has not given me a reason not to trust him in transfers so until that's the case I have full faith in him.

Just heard on the rumour mill that we are bidding for two England u21 players Dominic Iorfa of Wolves and Nathan Redmond of Norwich.

Is there any truth in it? Iorfa would be good for the future, but not sure if Redmond is good enough.
