Hello Ed002! Do you know if we have any interest on Lazio player Milinkovic-Savic? I think he could be a good addition to the team and fill the hole Wijnaldum left.

Thanks!

Links today with Lorenzo Pellegrini. No idea if they have any foundation to them but there is a player who would improve our team. Scores goals, creates goals, works hard, and he's a real leader. Can't see why Roma would let him go but then i can't believe they sold us Alisson and Salah either!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Lorenzo Pellegrini (CM/DM/AM) Juventus have tried very hard to strike a deal but the player says that he is open to signing a new contract with Roma and Juve turned to Aouar. Previous interest of both Manchester sides and Arsenal was rebuffed by the player. Inter, Liverpool and Milan have had scouts watch him. It is unclear if Roma will be open to selling.}

Does this story have any connection to Roma's interest in Xhaka from the Gooners?

City signed Benfica's Captain and look what happened! I'd really like Pellegrini tbf, Him, Thiago, Hender and Fabs looks like a tasty MF with Ox/ Shaq coming in for cup games. Just need Daka and we'd have a solid window.

He's a talented boy no doubt and I believe he's played more games this year than any season, so perhaps growing pains:) previously.

Do any of the ED's know of his injury history, I have a feeling he's suffered niggling injuries consistently in the past. Without sounding like an absolute pessimist when it comes to midfielders of this ilk from Italy I can't but remind myself of Aqua!

At the rumoured £30mil mark it could be the type of deal that FSG like. Still young at 24 has a good amount of experience at club and international level.

The last bloke we bought from Roma has done pretty well for himself. Could be a good deal if true. Get Patson Daka as well and next season could be a good one for us.

Would love a good Italian player on LFC! The last few were merda!

{Ed0666's Note - I see what you did there colo 😂

Nice player, but Eds feel free to correct me but I believe only English players outside of premier league have lower success rate than Italians outside of Serie A. Plus Italian national team has been known to give favoritism to Serie A players, or even ignore players outside of Italy unless they peak years, peak star power like Canavarro or desperate in a position like with Graziano Pelle couple years back. Don't forget Roma has Mourhinho as a new manager, he has history with Liverpool and Klopp, very doubtful this deal happens unless Jose is truly desperate for cash.

I’m with mflis on this. I can’t recall many players moving from Italy and being a huge success in England. No doubt there are a few exceptions over the years but the majority have been underwhelming from what I’ve seen.

Zola? anyone? anyone? anyone?
Fabrizio Ravanelli had a good first season in the EPL a goal every other game IIRC
Roberto Di Matteo did OK as well as another Chelsea player Carlo Cudicini
And who does not love Paolo Di Canio?

The problem is the best Italian footballers remained in Italy, I am sure the likes of Maldini, Nesta, Buffon, Del Piero would have been absolute stars if they tried the EPL.

Like I said, there will be exceptions but you've gone back in time quite a bit there. Let's try Balotelli, Aquilani, Borini and Dossena for starters.

The nearest thing to Xabi Alonso since Xabi Alonso. Great player.

Ed's, is there anything in the Neves to LFC rumours that were floating about? Do you see him as being a good fit into our MF if so?
cheers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is no interest I know of from Liverpool and he would effectively be a Fabinho replacement rather than a Wijnaldum replacement.}

09 Jun 2021 12:53:49
@johnnyr1970 how many Italians have come to the EPL? not many I would say the best Italian either stay in Italy or went to Spain, I am sure Baggio, Inzaghi, Totti, Mancini, Nesta, Maldini, Del Piero, Buffon would be stars.

I would bet Chiellini and Bonucci would have been stars if they moved 5 - 8 years aand current players Federico Chiesa plus Gianluigi Donnarumma would do well.

Lot of theoretical thinking there King Carlos. Historically Italian players have fared badly in the UK. I'm happy to be wrong but this past experience must surely be a consideration in any transfer the club looks at from there?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Zola, Di Canio, Carbone, Vialli, Cudicini, Ravenelli, Di Mateo seemed to manage OK.}

09 Jun 2021 14:28:22
I get that Ed002 but show me a more recent example? Cuducini probably the most recent in that list and even he probably last played here 10 years ago.

Not trying to cause any argument but - barring the odd exceptions who have now been listed twice - there haven't been many successful Italian players over here compared to French/ Spanish players. My guess is because their league is more tactical than physical.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to sign this player and for him to be great, past history suggests that he'd be a bigger risk than players from other countries.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There have not been many recently - Ogbonna has been at West Ham for five or six years now. Emerson, Raphinha and Jorginho all count as Italian and do OK.. You have now changed tact to say that there are not as many Italian players as there are from other coulntries - it all seems to make little sense I am afraid.}

09 Jun 2021 16:58:14
The point about other countries was that maybe players from there may be better suited to English football than those from Italy Ed002. Hence why we see more successful players from France/ Spain in the PL.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The Italian players are not less suited - the players who are less suited to playing abroad are the English.

I am sorry but I went on a bit of a rant and took myself too seriously. Result? A self-imposed exile from a website I love and login to daily.

This post has made me swallow my pride and re-post. Thank you so much MK and Zed.
