What do you expect to happen next summer regarding ins and out? I. e positions being focused on and players linked?

Also, will there be any business done in January?

Thanks :)

{Ed002's Note - I would expect Liverpool to look at the midfield next summer and still look to a LM and again an AM - they are two positions where there could be improvement. I suspect that a CB may well need to be added but that will depend on youngsters developing and how Gomez does. As for anything else it would likely depend on people leaving.

Clubs rarely plan for business in January.}

Eds, which player (s) in the squad do you believe have the most to prove this year? I think Keita needs to really show us something, and depending on how his year goes, that will greatly impact our transfer approach heading into 2020. I think if his 19/ 20 is similar to 18/ 19, we may look to sell him.

Other than that, I think the team feels pretty stable and strong overall.

{Ed002's Note - Gomez if he is to cement his place going forward, Keita has proven to be a major mistake so far and needs to step up & Lallana if he is to ever to be seen as anything other than cover. The club needs to find a way to keep younger players happy - it will be evident to them that the club will now continue to look to buy success and their opportunities will be limited.}

Thanks for the quick response, Ed!

Interesting note on Lallana. I figured his ship has sailed and it will be hard for him to get back to a form that will justify regular minutes as he ages. The paradox is how do you give a guy those EPL/ CL minutes to improve his form when other players are ahead of him quality-wise. Seems like a given that he will move on unless he somehow shows us something incredible in the FA and league cups. Very unlikely.

I agree on Gomez too. CB strangely feels unsettled right now considering it's a strength of ours, as he and Matip switch spots as VVD's long-term partner every couple of months because of injuries. There's a skill to staying healthy that comes with being a professional athlete that I'm not sure Gomez understands yet. I appreciate how hard he plays, but it doesn't do us good in the long run if he's spending over half his time in the training room.

I really hope to see an opportunity given to Brewster this year, and I hope he's ready to seize the opportunity. It's interesting to see young talent get minutes already at other big clubs like MU and Chelsea. Our younger guys are obviously seeing that too, and hopefully that continues to light a fire but doesn't lead to disenchantment. There's only so long before they will begin to get discouraged, justly or unjustly.

Thanks again and have a great day! The notes are always appreciated.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks.}

Ed’s thank you for the response!

Have you a small list of players you’ve heard we are looking at? Or alternatively who you would like to see fill the void.

Thanks :)

{Ed002's Note - Not really at this time. It would not be unreasonable to look at previous lists and see who has not moved on.}

There's also a very likely chance that it will be a talent that emerges this season.

At the end of the day, who had heard of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luka Jovic, Joao Felix, Jadon Sancho, Rodrygo and Nicolas Pepe 12 months ago?

Thanks! Do you mind just copying one over as I can’t find anything?

{Ed002's Note - Try searching on Joao Felix or Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld.}

mftonjes can't really compare are youngsters to Chelsea and Utd with Chelsea's strikers they had signed not working out that give Abraham's a chance with the transfer ban, and losing Hazzard has left a big hole with no chance to replace him. As for Utd when you look at there match day squad there signing have been so poor and on such big wages getting rid of them before replacing them is the hardest thing to do so it gives them not a lot of choice with the players they have signed and how they have played. It's hard enough for us to go and sign a player good enough to get into are team let alone a youngster get into the first team but we do have Trent and Gomez around the first team. As for Brewster he is still coming back from a very long lay off.

{Ed002's Note - There was no problem with Hazzard as the club already had a replacement.}

grino - i won't argue that the situations are the same, but there isn't a lot of complexity that goes into this from the point of view of these kids. these kids are competitive and they really want to play. i know if i'm brewster, and i see mason greenwood getting a look this year, and not looking out of place, i'm thinking i deserve my shot too. i've played with him and i can do that. i'm just saying i hope he gets that opportunity this year and runs with it. i really like him and would love to see him take another step in his career with the club.

ed your comment on "dependant on youngsters developing" i know it's been said that Klopp rates Nat Phillips, obviously had his bad injuries but does klopp still consider him part of the long term plans?

{Ed002's Note - I would think it depends how he gets on in Germany - but his age is against him.}

Ed002 who was hazards replacement and my point was none of young players would be getting into there teams if they had are first 11. But I hope Brewster does get plenty of game time. As for greenwood am sure if true be told ole would have liked to have signed another forward but with are transfer window closing early it did not help with selling Lukaku after.

{Ed002's Note - Hudson Odoi.}

So sth like:
Dael Fry Lovren
Lallana B Fernandes
-> Dwight McNeil (my pick not based on Ed002 info)

Also, great to hear from Ed002 and thanks for the insight, especially during this dull lull in the season, it's much appreciated.

As previously discussed, do you still see the LB cover for Robertson coming from within? I like Larouchi, but he does still seem like a rather rough diamond.

Which reminds me, isn't Anderson Arroyo going somewhere or what's the story there now?

06 Sep 2019 13:14:15
ed002 as an Englishman I hope Hudson Odoi turns into a player as good as Hazard but that's a lot to expect from a young player to fill his boots for me he had been the best player in are league for a very long time.

{Ed002's Note - Fortunately clubs do not assess players against each other in the same way you do.}

06 Sep 2019 15:48:49
ed002 it was you that said it was his replacement. so if so comparisons will be made and if Firmino had left us in the summer to expect Brewster to fill his role at his age would have been a big ask. And both them players might go on to be better in the long run. And its nice to see the young English players getting a chance. But my point was in Chelsea's and Utd time at the minute it will be easier for the young players to get a chance as Liverpool at the minute have a stronger team.

{Ed002's Note - He is a replacement - clubs do not make comparisons like that.}
