Ed01/ Ed02,

The head of football at BILD has reported that 3 clubs have contact Bayer leverkusen over Havertz Spanish, German and English club, he then stated that Liverpool are the english club and Bayer leverkusen are expecting a offer from LFC. Is this true? If so this is very exciting for the future!

{Ed002's Note - This seems rather like old news being dragged up again Alex. This is how I responded at the time:

Kai Havertz (AM) Bayern Munich will likely move for KH if the option on Philippe Coutinho not taken up, but interest from elsewhere - particularly Barcelona (if Coutinho leaves), Manchester City (as a David Silva replacement) and Juventus. Interest of Milan will likely not go anywhere. Dortmund and PSG have both certainly spoken with his agent. Numerous other clubs have had scouts watch including Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid who have watched him on a number of occasions but either don't see the value in the price now or have other targets (where Chelsea and Real Madrid are concerned). Whether Liverpool wish to throw their hat in to the ring is another matter. Bild wrote an article citing interest from Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid - and then went on to write another saying Manchester United and Manchester City have spoken directly with the player - which they have not. Somewhere down the line an English paper added Liverpool as one of these clubs. Right now, Liverpool has not made any approach to Bayer Leverkusen regarding the player.

The reality is that all four clubs want an AM player - and he is Bayern's preferred recourse assuming they decide not to take up the option on Coutinho. Manchester United are looking for an AM player and have been baulking at the price being asked for Bruno Fernandes (AM) and have not lost sight of Christian Eriksen (AM). They have certainly looked at him, but I am not aware of more than that and I am sure they have not spoken with the player directly. Real Madrid are also looking for an AM player and have been attracted by the low-cost option of Eriksen, buyt he is almost certainly heading elsewhere. Finally, Manchester City do have the need to replace David Silva but it would be a very significant investment in a youngster.

There may be a push for him to spend one more year at BL regardless of strong interest from elsewhere. THis would make a Bayern Munich move in 2021 far more likely.}

This rumor never made any sense to me. Where would Havertz play in the lineup? Hendo has just been stellar, Keita looks like he's finally figuring things out, Ox has had decent form, and Wijnaldum is on the brink of an extension. He seems like he'd have to be a Salah replacement, and if so, how does that make us better? They're different types of players, and while Havertz is great, but our knack for scoring takes a hard hit if you swap them for each other.

Well I can see keita going in the summer so there mite be space.

we've speculated about keita leaving a bit before in here, but keita has looked great when he's played. it's true, his health is a big issue though. i haven't heard of any teams having interest in keita, and it wouldn't be good business anyways to sell a guy at a loss, considering that he has shown some promise. i think we're stuck for now, and need to hope he just gets going.

Agreed Keita can be spectacular based on his record in the Leipzig days. But how many of us are willing to stake a winning season, next year, on Keita being there, based on what we have seen with him at LFC? And in any case, there is always a transition and there are always options. And Klopp loves options. Havertz can be the long term replacement for Henderson, immediate replacement for Keita or any other permutation Klopp wants to try. But Havertz is an excellent long term choice. Crucial part of midfield settled for the next 8-10 years if all goes well. Unless you think Curtis Jones is the answer (which I don't) .

We could always have Jones AND Havertz to take our midfield forward over the next few years.

Naby going nowhere and I’m cool with that.

i like nabby.

I personally think Klopp will give Keita 1 more season.
A lot also depends on what Nabby wants to do as well.
