Ed this interest in Lovren from Zenit, do you no if they're looking to take him this summer?

{Ed002's Note - There was interest in January and there may well be interest now - but they could look for a loan or perhaps for a loan with an obligation to buy. The other option would be for Zenit to ask Liverpool to release the player from his contract - but Liverpool has already refused such a request in respect of another player.}

Agree0 Disagree0

That other player being Adrian, Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

Thought so, having seen the Real Betis links not that long ago. Thanks for the quick response.

Out of curiosity Ed, which positions do you think we could realistically strengthen this summer, if any?

{Ed002's Note - If Liverpool cannot improve the first team spending money on padding is not a great idea unless players leave or unless the younger players are not good enough. Klopp wants a first pick CB - but money is an issue. I am sure Klopp wants an attacking player to replace Shaqiri but again money is an issue and youngesters are emerging.}

Padding the squad takes me back to the Houllier and Benitez days. We had game changers like Cheyrou, Biscan, Nunez, Kromkamp etc to bring on off the bench 😂.

Considering there has been very little spent for almost 2 years now, and that we have just won the league and signed the Nike deal, it would seem odd if we had 'no money'.
Whilst i understand that things are quite different in these unprecedented times, is it so bad that we have zero to spend?
Do all incomings depend on outgoings Ed's? Are we expecting Wilson, ShaQ, Origi and Marco to stay now? If any of those sell, are you expecting Carlos to be the main target, and for a deal to go through?
Thank you.

{Ed002's Note - This has been done to death.}

Ed001 or Edoo2, quick question for you if you've the time. When the club signed VVD the fee was widely reported as £75m. Was that a straight up fee? Or was it £75m with targets? For example x amount of money for CL win, premier league win and him getting footballer of the year? Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - That was the fee which was an increase of £15M on the fee they wanted. The club paid very significant agent fees as well.}

Spaceman that question has been repeated over and over again and the answer to my basic knowledge is to try understand that our financial running doesn't break down into a simplistic idea of transfer fee net spend recently dictating the funds to splash now. Things such as big transfers in last couple of markets maybe being payed over instalments still due, new contract renewals rising the salary figures, player bonuses, agent fees, lack of star players being sold for big money, lack of gate receipts with empty stadiums, I'm sure a large decrease in merchandise income while the world stopped, stadium upgrades costing large sums since main stand expanded and future works in the pipeline, mega investment put into new training complex to pay for.

So many avenues that the club have spent big on over the years to get us to the top with all that still continuing to draw money while much of our income has halted and we need to plan wisely to manage for the stability in the future without knowing yet what timeframe could impact us in losing out precious income. I recently heard that during lockdown months our salary outgoing was 80mil+ plus paid to staff while no football was played. Without any incoming matchday funds and merchandise there's large losses. Those lost figures could easily equate the big number that many of us expected the club to be capable of spending this summer before the virus. But the people making the decisions have an actual insight into what's best for staying as strong as possible right now while also thinking about keeping strong in times ahead. We simply have to accept they are making the best choices with the factual projections they see and our constant questioning and doubt towards the planning is ignorant and naive with the complete lack of info we have. Constant posts referring to league winners and European winners somehow receiving over the top prize funds are not seeing sense in regards to where the big money comes and goes.
