Ed is there interest from Klopp in the young winger Jeremy Doku?

{Ed002's Note - Jeremy Doku (RW/LW) Liverpool attempted to strike a deal for Jeremie Doku last but dropped their interest in the kid because of a misunderstanding about him going to see Chelsea (which turned out to be his sister not the club). There was a fear that Anderlecht would face further sanctions over past issues and an approach by Milan about the player saw them ask €20M. The situation has now changed and offers may be listened to after he has had a good season - but any deal is likely going to need a one or two year loan back to Anderlecht. This is where it gets difficult and would cut Milan out of a deal. Clubs are going to be less likely to want to tie funds up in such a way. When he turned 18 his agent was declared and that could be an issue that I don't want to address here. I am not aware of another approach by Liverpool at this time but at the right price there could be well be interest.}

"dropped their interest in the kid because of a misunderstanding about him going to see Chelsea (which turned out to be his sister not the club) "

I know it probably wan't funny for the kid, but you have to laugh at that. Who was dealing with him from the club's end? Mr. Bean?

Ed002, been meaning to ask but didn’t don’t know where to put it. I’ll ask here as you’ve mentioned an agent in this post.

How do young players go about becoming represented by an agent? Do some agencies have scouts where they will look for players to approach? Or would the player ring around and ask for representation? Would there be any cases whereby a club has noticed a youngster they would like to acquire, realised he’s without an agent and asked an agent they have a good relationship with to approach the player to broker a transfer? Or is that just adding a middle man who they have to pay more for?

Sorry for the length and number of Q’s. Hope you’re well.

{Ed002's Note - They are not allowed to be represented by an agent under 18 but many are. The agents are not allowed to negotiate for the youngsters before they are 18 and most clubs will not deal with them - the exception is two English sides (who tread on questionable ground when doing so). Agents will look to sign up the players expected to do well - others will end up with large agencies who will work on an estate agent type basis for a fee. The rules have been tightened and The FA and FIFA would like to do it, but it is a constant battle. There are better models in Germany for example.}

Ah I see, thanks, makes sense. I’ll have a look at Germany, who seem to have a better model for everything.

The greatest misunderstanding has to be still the one by Roy Hodgson (which I just read about) . He sold the wrong player. Two players named Alex and he sold the wrong one because he couldn't remember the surnames. Misunderstanding is a very mild word for professional incompetence.
