Is anyone under the impression that Thiago will only sign subject to Wijnaldum leaving the club? For me that would make perfect sense. Seen as Wijnaldum is not signing a contract I could see us attempting to sell and using the money to buy Thiago. For one I believe that would significantly soften the blow, Thiago is a very good player injuries aside.

Potentially but I hope not. TBH I think we should be looking for younger players. Given a straight choice I would rather we keep Wijnaldum.

I don’t see how signing an injury prone player who doesn’t put in anywhere nearvthe same amount of hard work that Wijnaldum does would lessen the impact on the team? Besides, Thiago is off to PSG anyway so all his fanboys can stop setting themselves.

We need to try and improve the first team and for me Gini is the place an improvement could be made so if we get decent money and buy someone better it’s a win win. Keita will play more next year also and that would be instead of Gini or Hendo. Maybe we will be able to spend money on Koubily if Gini leaves given Klopp wants a CB.

Would we get more money for Wijnaldum than we would have to pay for Thiago?

Key point being injuries.

Football manager experts ranting again.
Thiago 'runs' the Bayern team according to the german journo who is friendly w Klopp. He is not only a better passer than anyone we have at the club, but is also amazing in tight spaces and so so creative.
Our football needs to evolve as the full backs were being stifled, hence the downturn in form since the Watford game. Klopp is all about evolving the way we play so that we are not predictable and have options.
Besides all that Gini has been a bit of a utility man until recently and his reaction to one of the goals he scored recently could suggest that there is stuff going on for him around how he is perceived. He scores plenty of goals for holland cause of how he is allowed to play and it as his peak, so who knows if maybe he wants to leave. Anyway, i trust Klopp more than any keyboard warrior .

We broke we ain’t getting Thiago! Gini will leave in January.

“Bit of a utility man”? Wijnaldum has literally played the vast majority of his games in centre midfield. He’s become a water carrier rather than an attacking player, but that’s what the team requires, mobile midfielders who are technically good on the ball and able to get stuck in. Besides all the talk of Thiago Is irrelevant, he’s going to PSG. Money talks and BS walks. There’s literally no money, we’re tyre kicking on a second rate defender from a team in the bottom half of la liga so what makes you think there’s £27m and wages for Thiago lying around? If you’re that desperate to watch Thiago play next year, get a PSG scarf and a BT Sport subscription.

Spaceman

Thiago started 20 league games for Bayern this season. So did the German Journo tell who ran the Bayern team for the other 14 games.

Also Thiago made 0 assists in the bundesliga this year. I think he is a good player and better than your midfielders but I don't think he is better suited to your current system. His age and injury record along with his reported wage demands means he isn't the most sensible signing you guys could be chasing IMO.

You can't sell someone if they don't want to move. If Gini wants to run his contract down, there much the club can do.

04 Aug 2020 11:55:59
Hey 6times no need to get bt sport to see what other players are like. We just need to ask you as you know everything about every player going. Thought bout being a scout as you must watch every player 100 times a season lol.

04 Aug 2020 12:10:21
Hahahaha beat me to it scousetim.

04 Aug 2020 12:23:31
To be fair Scousetim, there been nothing else to do do during lockdown but catch up on all the other leagues.

I would comment that if Wijnaldum does decide to run his contract down, then fair play to him. He’s been great value for his transfer fee as we’ve won the league and been European, Continental and World Champions in that time.

He can go with his head held high and rightly be considered one of the best midfielders to have worn the shirt, he’s like Ronnie Whelan to me, what he does, he does quietly and effectively, but when he’s not there, you miss his work immensely.

"Tyre kicking for a CB from a 2nd rate team in La Liga". Yeah because Robertson, Gini, Henderson, Virgil, Gomez, Mane etc all came from "top tier" clubs. No chance of Klopp and company making a player better through coaching is there? Genuinely don't know how you're not employed by a top 4 club considering you know more than anyone, anywhere the world over about any and every player ever mentioned.

04 Aug 2020 13:18:22
If he not going to sign new contract then they need to sell him get what we can for him as no good letting him go for free, need all the cash we can get atm.

Thiago injury record really worries me, wiji has a decent enough injury record and is consistent when it comes to fitness and work rate. Thiago is clearly the better midfielder and has more world class quality but wiji has proven to fit in our system and is a solid player himself. I do think midfield is an area we need to improve since certain players are leaving and Keita himself is very unreliable. That would leave us with Fabinho and Henderson being the two best midfielders we have with uncertainty surrounding millers future, keita being inconsistent and injury prone, Lallana leaving and ox also being injury prone and not seen as a starting 11 player. Thiago seems the best bet if wiji is to leave but only because we’re so cash strapped, because imo, there are more logical options out there that might suit us more. He’s an upgrade in individual quality but is he an upgrade to the team? I’m not so sure.

Irishman, it he was a player in his early 20’s I’d feel more positive about it as there’s always room to improve at a younger age, but he’s turning 29 and has spent his career in or around the bottom half of the French League and the Spanish League, so you can excuse my lack of enthusiasm and indifference to it.
