Rumours Van Dyke could be off to Barcelona. There aren't any purely football reasons why he would leave . Having said that Barcelona are the legendary club for the Dutch . Climate, money ( after tax ) and just wanting to live in Barcelona are all reasons why all reds should be worried .

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol what a load of crap van dijk ain't going to barcelona and they can't afford him.

21 Aug 2020 08:40:30
Worst rumour ever lol. Just because he's Dutch he is being linked with Barca. Wont happen, not in a million years mate.

21 Aug 2020 08:41:05
There are 2 types of reds fans.

1. The ones who realize we have a world class squad already who are relaxed about transfers and just enjoy the transfer window show.

2. The reds who panic about everything and think we ll get relegated if we don't sign someone.

I doubt anyone can afford van dijk but I'm sure your comment will panic someone on here. Nothing surprises me anymore.

21 Aug 2020 08:43:23
This won't happen not in this window.

21 Aug 2020 09:58:02
Barca are broke AF. They can’t afford the phone call to Michael Edwards to get a rejection.

21 Aug 2020 10:50:13
If they are stumping up the best part of £175 million plus I don't think we would consider it. and then who replaces him?

21 Aug 2020 11:05:05
What if he goes on strike?

21 Aug 2020 11:10:56
You do realise tax rates in Spain are simialr to the Uk right.?

21 Aug 2020 11:28:22
Very well said Davey Sulls!

21 Aug 2020 11:37:03
I heard they are also interested in Gini, Van den berg, Hoever, and Ryan babbel.

21 Aug 2020 11:47:12
It's fooball you never know. If he goes all the best to him and hopefully his replacement would be adequate.

21 Aug 2020 12:07:13
Only a fee of 150 mil plus would even start to tickle liverpool's taste buds on selling Virgil. Even then I doubt they would. He's the best defender in the world and rarely makes mistakes, even though we have seen one or two now and again. There is only one world where I'd see selling Van Dyke, and that's to buy Mbappe, with pennies left over to sign two world class CBs. I doubt Barcelona will sign many players this summer unless they offload most of the first team, and if Messi leaves I don't really see them recovering for a long time. Both Barcelona and Madrid have had issues replacing players, Madrid less so, but Hazard really has under performed for them, so unless they find the cash to sign a superstar, I doubt Madrid or Barcelona will be threat for the next few years.

21 Aug 2020 12:56:04
I know this is a rumour site but this is a lazy one a Dutch. There ain’t a snowballs chance of Barcelona being able to afford him even if he did go on strike but he really doesn’t seem like the type of player to take such action. Plus he’s an intelligent player as much of a draw Barcelona is they are club at a major transition period and a period of a lot of uncertainty I don’t think Virgil would take that risk at this point in his career he can achieve the things he wants at Liverpool under Klopp.

{Ed002's Note - Doesn't seem the type of player top go on strike eh? The }

21 Aug 2020 13:12:19
Unless Ed001 or Ed002 says there is anything to it then it’s total garbage.

Might as well say Messi on season long loan to Anfield sponsored by Nike so he can win another Champions League before he goes off to Miami in the MLS.

{Ed002's Note - Virgil van Dijk (CB) Barcelona have significant other spending planned for the summer and will not be able to afford VvD. Juventus retain an interested with Chiellini at the end of his career and Bonucci not getting any younger. They see VvD as a good long-term solution who can also help MdL mature.

This was the situation before the January transfer window - I am very doubtful he will be moving this summer.}

21 Aug 2020 13:48:52
Thanks for putting that one to bed, Ed002.
LOL I do hope Weston90 was joking about VvD not being 'the type' to go on strike. A few folks down on the south coast might have something to say about that.

21 Aug 2020 14:11:14
Ha ha, italian league so poor, maybe when VVD is 34 he will go to Italy but not in his prime. I hope he is a red for the rest of his career.

21 Aug 2020 14:27:33
I can’t see VVD wanting to join a Barcelona side that are in such disarray as they’re in, notwithstanding the fact that they’re skint and simply don’t have the money to pay the sort of fee that would be demanded, whereas I could see them raising the funds for Wijnaldum, I just can’t see it for VVD. As for Juve, they probably don’t have the money either, nor do they have anyone worth taking in exchange and (regrettably, as it was a great league back in the days) Serie A has regressed into a bit of a farmers league nowadays.

21 Aug 2020 16:43:27
Apologies I should explain I mean in the context of him currently being happy at an exciting club that are competitive and successful it seems like it wouldn’t be beneficial for him to kick up a fuss and go on strike to move to a club in development with let's face it a sub par manager in Keoman ( based off recent club success or lack ther of and woeful transfer market dealings ) I just can’t see Barcelona a - having the funds to tempt us in to selling and b - have the funds to put him on 400 k a week

Just to be clear I’m well aware he has been difficult in the past but I don’t believe it makes sense for him to do so at the moment and I think he’s the type of player that knows this.

If we don’t continue our success I can see him leaving next year if another huge club comes in with the right price but I can’t see anything happening In The immediate future.

21 Aug 2020 17:56:29
If Matthijs wants to be mentored by VvD, he knows where to find him.

21 Aug 2020 23:34:11
To put it into context

Working with Koeman or Klopp
Playing with Barca's aging first XI versus ours in our prime XI

I doubt Virgil would be wanting to leave a club who adores him and will be challenging and winning major trophies for the next 5 years. A major change at LFC such as Klopp leaving may tempt players to look elsewhere but I think the succession planning is already underway with Pepijn as the natural successor to Klopp.

22 Aug 2020 03:08:12
Barcelona is going to struggle to recruit this year. The teams that they normallt poach for top talent have gone beyond them or are looking to overtake them and all the inner turmoil will cause them to ultimately overspend during a time when clubs can't even properly budget because of the C.V.. Koeman is definitely in the hot seat.

22 Aug 2020 08:01:46
Working under the best manager in the world is usually a once in a career opportunity. VVD is the lynchpin in the best side in the world, under the best manager in the world. Gini's situation is different as he might not be playing in his favoured position, and has been somewhat of a utility man.

22 Aug 2020 08:31:01
Never happening. Also, may I say I am pleased we have no money for Diego Carlos the man looks a liability. Quarters, semis and the final all conceding a penalty, must be some kind of record!

22 Aug 2020 10:33:15
Did we really need anyone to put it to bed? there's not a hope in hell any club COULD or WOULD WANT TO spend the money we'd want for Virg. He'll be 30 next summer and like our front three, is probably a bit too old for clubs to part with the money we'd want. Even besides all this lads it's common sense we have probably the most talented and just as important. SETTLED squad in Europe with the best coach in the game who actually improves the players. Not a time to be leaving.

22 Aug 2020 13:57:03
I doubt there's even a rumour. It's so left field that's it's likely that he's just made it up.

23 Aug 2020 06:49:56
Not a chance of Virgil going to Barca. No chance.

Wijnaldum on the other hand, is a possibility. I hope he signs a new contract, but until that is signed, there's always a chance he'll go.

26 Aug 2020 01:52:43
That was a pointless thread. No chance any part of that deal could be possible right now with both clubs situations on and off field, managers, squad morale, money he'd cost plus our lack of desperation to need to sell big. Long contract, leader and seemingly loving his role at us, always fit, always playing with focus. No way he's flirting with wanting out, no way klopp wants him out, no way the club want to entertain offers.
