Hey ed, hope you are well mate!

I know January is always a bad month for clubs to do business, especially for us with what you have said about long-term payments being made but do you think it is realistic for us to sign a cb this coming window? And if so do you know of anyone we hold interest in?

Have seen plenty of rumours circulating about per shuurs, do you know if he is a feasible option? Only seen him play against us, do you rate him?

Cheers mate. Hope you have a good Christmas!

{Ed002's Note - Liverpoool were interested in 17/18 when Schuurs was Fortuna Sittard after loosing out on Mahamadou Dembele - obviously he would have been for the youth side then. I am not aware of a recent approach and Ajax have not made him available. Money remains an issue for the club. I am not aware of any efforts by Liverpool to add a CB in January to replace Van Dijk or Gomez for however long they are out - and it is always a difficult time to buy. You are aware of players Liverpool had previously shown an interest in and it would make sense to boost the Home Grown quota if they do look to an addition - but that has to be offset against cost and clubs not planning on selling in January. The likes of Dael Fry, Ben White and Ben Godfrey have been of interest in the past - only White would potentially make the grade as the starter Klopp wants (e.g. Diego Carlos or Lisandro Martinez). Whilst clubs are already trying to firm up their plans for next summer, few plan to buy in January - taking a player on loan might be an option.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks mate, appreciate it! Ben White would be a great signing imo but unfortunately I don't see us spending too much in January or the summer!

{Ed002's Note - The club need to start making changes in the siummer to start refreshing the older players - they need to be bold in selling to raise funds and need to listen to scouts and probably take some advice. Otherwise the fear is to Sancho > Traore route.}

Would Jack Harrison count as home grown?

{Ed002's Note - No he doesn't.}

Totally agree on the bold strategy Ed002 mentions. As much as I would hate Salah or Mane leaving it could give funds to get a younger player not quite at their level but potential with the right coaching.

Sancho> Traore route I like that Ed. A bit like craving a roller but finishing up with an Ford Sharran.

Hi ed002, when you say 'older players', do you mean players like James Milner at 34'ish, or those like Henderson at 30'ish?

{Ed002's Note - The side is getting older and Klopp will be aware of that and needs younger players added to integrate with the squad and eventually take over. The 30ish players still have value and an be used to raise funds.}

Agreed on the age of the squad being a looming issue. This is a fantastic group, but they're all aging together, and will eventually decline together. Obviously no one is advocating a large overhaul, but freshening things up with a couple younger contributors would help balance things out.

Can’t argue with that Ed.

Out of curiosity Ed, what would be the smart way to go in your opinion?

Who would you look to move on and bring in.

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - The club should look to raise funds through selling the likes of Grugic, Origi, Shaqiri, Keita and one of Salah and Mane and look to bring through Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott and add perhaps a CB like Ben White, a CM player like
Diego Rosa or Dominik Szoboszlai (both of whom are heading elsewhere), an AM player like Mohamed Ihattaren (who is young enough to become HG in England), and a young striker Isak Bergmann Johannesson (who can also become Home Grown. Liverpool will alos need to ensure that the have club developed players - something already impacting their Champions League squad. No doubt Klopp will still be looking to Adama Traore.}

I guess I could understand if Salah or Mane were to move on to a giant sum that would get reinvested in several spots, but its a bit like breaking up the Chicago Bulls IMO; if we win the league again (a big if at this point, mind), how can we advocate losing any of our starting eleven with the exception of maybe Gini because his contract is running out. Salah and Mane (28) are resilient, top athletes. You would have to make the case of getting rid of VVD (29) and Firmino (29) too because of age/ depreciation.

Thanks for the reply Ed.

What is the obsession with Traore? Could it possibly be the pace and muscles? I just don't rate him in the slightest.

20 Dec 2020 20:52:22
Have Liverpool shown any interest in the players you named Ed?

{Ed002's Note - White and the young striker.}

Thanks Ed.
