Posters on here have very very short memories. Most posters now believe that Mane should be sold. How disrespectful. He was the main man last season, better thatn Salah and one of the main reasons why we won the league. Then a few months later he gets C.V. and has a big dip in form and supporters turn agains't him.

Mane will discover his true very very soon and posters will have to offer a groveling appology. Mane I still love you man.

In an ideal world, Mane does not leave and we add another top quality player upfront to compete our front 4. But in reality, we need funds to come from somewhere to refresh and build a younger squad over time.
Mane is a brilliant footballer no doubt. But he has two years left on his contract and is approaching 30 years of age, just like Bobby and Salah. I cannot envisage FSG giving Klopp sufficient funds to refresh the squad while also handing out improved long term contracts to all 3 of the mentioned players.
Salah is our most marketable player while Bobby just won't sell for much. So its naturally Mane that a lot of fans assume will be sold if an acceptable offer came in.
From a long term perspective, it makes sense to sell an ageing first choice forward along with some of the fringe attackers (Origi, Taki and Shaq) . Use the money to get two younger but very high potential players, preferably one wide player (Neto/ Raphinha) and a striker like Malen.
You cannot keep bringing in the next best talent if the existing first team players don't make way.

03 Apr 2021 13:07:49
The thing is it looks like we need to sell if we are supposed to make this team better and we have to look at this situation from clubs future perspective.
If we look at our front three.
Salah is consistent with goals he has been all his time with us. Bobby is a big part of the system and it he who allows mane and salah so many opportunities to score. Mane is a beast but he has been off the boil for a good 15 months now and when on form what he brings pace and directness to our team. But He is most easily replaced amongst the front three.
I don't want to break the trio but say if a deal for a better player younger player is available and one of the 3 has to make way, mane would be my choice.

03 Apr 2021 13:26:45
Reality shows that either Mane or Salah will need to go probably, and Salah is the world class player out of the two, plus in Jota we already have a replacement for Mane, so be realistic.

03 Apr 2021 13:44:10
Off form for 15 months? This is what I mean a totally false statement. December last year was when Mane was bagging in all the goals and winning us the league. Firmino is far far less a part of the system, the best games recently are when Firmino doesn’t play.

03 Apr 2021 14:20:53
Not disrespectful at all. It’s fairly evident that he’s on the decline and he’s certainly not getting any younger so he’s not suddenly going to get better. The sensible thing to do is cash in while he has value and use that money to bring in someone to refresh the front line. It’s obvious that Jota makes a capable replacement, so that money from the sale of Mane can go to bring someone in to add goals to the lineup as beyond Salah and Jota there’s not many goals in the side.

03 Apr 2021 14:46:37
IB, absolutely spot on.
Mane is a phenomenal footballer but it makes the most sense financially to move Mane on. Moving mane on pays for his replacement and a striker. (Pulisic and Mallen are my picks) .
Of course it would be great if we could keep him and refresh the squad with some new players but unfortunately it’s not going to happen. Now is probably the best time to seek him too, his stock is still high and his getting on a little bit. The summer after firmino will likely be moved on, again a replacement will be signed. Salah the year after.

03 Apr 2021 15:15:29
No way should we sell our best player Sadio Mane!
We need a centre forward who actually scores goals .
I’d move Bobby on and maybe Salah if he wants to go . but certainly not Sadio.

03 Apr 2021 15:39:59
Haven't seen so much bollocks posted in a long time. IB miles away from the facts. Good opening post mark.

03 Apr 2021 15:42:01
Liver la Salah as outperformed mane season after season, how do you get to that Mane is our best player, very good but blows out and cold.

03 Apr 2021 15:47:19
Mighty are you saying Salah was better than Mane last season, when we won the league? I am sure no one else agrees with you.

03 Apr 2021 15:50:50
6 times, Mane was also the main reason we won it 6 times. Against Barcelona he was the man. If Firmino or Salah had played instead we would not have won v Barca. Mane if far from on the decline, he will massively prove you wrong.

03 Apr 2021 16:45:07
You are turning a blind eye to the obvious fact that mane has been severely out of form and 100+ million for him is just too good a sum to say no to esp if it gives the team a big chance to invest on its future.
And mane was not able to win nothing in that Barcelona game till gini came up and turned it around. If there was no gini and origi we would have lost.
And mane did not win us the league it was our defense that did. You seem to easily forget that mane wouldn't have scored half of his goals if it weren't for salah and bobby. And if mane won us the league how did salah not when he scored same number of games.
There are 10 players like mane out there so the fact is he is the most replaceable in the front 3.

03 Apr 2021 16:57:04
Very few teams could afford the fee for one of the front three in any normal times, with corona decimating finances I doubt any bids will come for them. PSG perhaps but Real and Barce are broke and the club wouldn’t sell to a domestic rival. Bayern Munich tend to hoover up the best of the bundesliga and Juve can’t match the wages of the premier league.

{Ed077's Note - Juventus can easily match the wages in the PL. Maybe you should look up tax rates in the UK and Italy for starters.

03 Apr 2021 17:26:27
Mane is out of form and look at what has happened to the team in terms of goals way down. I believe Mane is just recovering from his sickness and starting from today the real Mane will show up. Start playing mane up front with Jota and Salah and he will soon rediscover his magic. Up until the suspension of the title season Mane did get most of our winning goals not Salah and certainly not Bobby.

03 Apr 2021 17:30:30
Akita you need to watch the Barcelona game again. Mane ran them ragged in the first half. They doubled up on him allowing the space for Hendo and then Gini to exploit. Mane was MOTM.

03 Apr 2021 17:39:05
Ed77, Juventus need a full rebuild and are short of cash. I can’t see them paying £100m transfer fees.

{Ed077's Note - who said anything about transfer fees. The post said Juve can't match the wages in PL and I replied they can in a little different way.

03 Apr 2021 17:45:42
He’s not going to prove me wrong. He’s at the age where we need to be moving him on while we can get a big fee for him. Yes he’s been brilliant, but you cannot live in the past and on past reputation. He’s not done it at all this season and look spent. If he has another season like this next year for us then we’ll not make a good fee from him and then will struggle to invest in the squad. As it stands he’d easily fetch £70m+ which would go very well in finding a striker who can actually put the ball in the net and replace Firmino, Jota is more than capable of replacing Mane, stop living in the past and being sentimental, it gets us nowhere. We have to be realistic about how we continue funding our squad, and it is through sales. Cold hard facts.

03 Apr 2021 18:13:35
A front 3 of Jota, Fimino and Salah is way off what is needed to win the PL. If you get £75m for Mane why not take £40m for Firmino and replace him with a goal scorer. That would give us a miles better chance.

03 Apr 2021 18:20:22
I agree with both Markp08 and Indian Buzzer. Mane’s form has dipped dramatically but I for one am not writing him off. Can he return to his best form, of course he can but this is where Indian Buzzer brings up a valid point. It is well known we are not flush with cash. Mane turns 29 in 7 days and by next summer he will be 30 years of age with 1 year remaining on his contract. If a bid comes in for say, £100M this summer we would be foolish to reject that. That isn’t a slight on Mane as a player, it’s just forward planning. I love Mane as player and for the last 2-3 years he has been sensational but as Ed2 always says, players come and go and life moves on unfortunately.

03 Apr 2021 18:37:06
Yes Alonso I see that point of course. But let’s say you get £90m for Mane then what? An in form Mane is one of our 5 main players so who are you going to replace him with. Don’t say Sancho, Barnes etc that will set us back 3 years. Why not replace Wilson, shaq and Origi with another decent player who can challenge the front 3 and Firmino?

03 Apr 2021 19:00:18
Indeed, we need to evolve and refresh.
Mo can't be sold, and I can see the argument to sell Mane.
At the end of the day, it will really depends on who we get in place.

I would not blink an eye and sell Firmino instead.

How many times have we heard Liverpool play well when Firmino does?
Well, how many times have Liverpool played well over past year?
Relying on Firmino to play well, is like relying on Matip to stay fit. Not a wise plan.

With Firmino gone, Shaq, Origi, Wilson, and maybe the Ox and Naby too, we should really get good enough fund for 2 first 11 material.

03 Apr 2021 19:56:23
I love all are front 3 Jota comes in fir Bobby he might score more than Bobby but his hold up play is nowhere near what Bobby’s is and we look a bit week up too with Jota up there. Mane form has been poor this season but nobody knows how C.V. effected him. As for Salah he does for us what is the hardest thing in the game to do score goals and gets more assists than the rest of are front 3 don’t get why so many fans don’t rate him as much as Mane is goal rate is phenomenal.

03 Apr 2021 20:51:49
Wilson, Shaqiri and Origi will all be going in the summer anyway, we’d be lucky to get anywhere £30m for them which goes nowhere. Mane is 29 this month, his output really has never been as good as Salah’s, so I think it’s sensible to sell him and reinvest. I’d sell Firmino too as he’s also knocking 30 and his output isn’t as good as it was.

This summer we need to sell Origi, Shaqiri, Wilson, Grujic, Matip, Keita, Ox, Firmino and Mane.

One of the things we used to do well was moving players on before they got to the point of being past it and refreshing the squad. Given that we have to sell to buy, I think it’s sensible to sell now than wait.

03 Apr 2021 20:57:21
Who doesn’t rate Salah as much as Mane? They are both equally important for the team but Salah gets more goals and assists but Msne overall does more tracking back. Can’t agree on Firmino hold up play half the time his second touch is a tackle. Ps he has been better so far today.

03 Apr 2021 22:52:02
Money is scarce now, mane is top drawer but to think he will fetch a huge sum at his age is unlikely in my opinion. 50 million bar a prolonged payment would be my guess. Ps he's a hero.

04 Apr 2021 02:41:56
This is a team game. each and everyone of them have given us their all. let's cherish and love each of them!

04 Apr 2021 04:52:35
LFC have to consider what to do with the "Front 3".

They are legends, but their goalscoring has simply not been good enough in 2021. Will they carry this form into next season? Then we will struggle again.

Salah 2 goals from open play in the league in 2021. Sadio and Bobby one each, I think.

Jota has already outscored them all in 2021, after playing one whole game, and then half an hour yesterday.

Front 3 are legends. But they will have to make room for younger, more productive players.

That's not disrespectful. That's simply the fact of life if a club wants to challenge the likes of City year in, year out.

04 Apr 2021 05:31:24
For all stat lovers. if salah hasn't been the best striker in the league this season then no one is worthy to be told as that. he is the top scorer.

04 Apr 2021 07:02:57
Salah is a better footballer than Mane. That is not a slight on Mane, coz Salah is just that good.

{Ed077's Note - Agreed. Salah is easily the best player of the "front 3" for me.}

04 Apr 2021 07:54:23
LLTK- Juve must have one of the biggest wage bills in football, they pay Ramsey 400k a week for a start.

04 Apr 2021 08:06:58
I must have watched a different game but was Mane the one that tried the impossible pass to Bobby instead of having a shot, fluffed the control that let to Jota buried in the back of the net for goal number 3 and then missed the header to make it four.

Look he had a good game but it was not Mane world class standards and I do think it is fair to set the bar to those standard of the past 3 seasons we know he can achieve, anything less and on a continued basis will put some criticism his way.

I will take that performance as a confidence booster for Mane and hope we see the world class Mane on Tuesday.

04 Apr 2021 08:53:15
It’s great when people say Bobby is a big part of the system. It’s like no other forward in world football closes defenders down and Mane and Salah cannot score without him. You only have to look at the games where he goes off or doesn’t play and that proves that theory wrong. Mane, Jota and Salah can all play anywhere in the front 3 and still score goals. For me Bobby can only play in the middle and still doesn’t score a great deal. Fans are even calling for him to play in midfield just to get him in the team. With the current money situation in football i can’t see anyone spending big money so if we sell Mane it could be at a far lower price than what people believe. Bobby is a firm favourite of Klopps but so is Mane and Salah so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them all stay.

04 Apr 2021 09:46:54
I really don’t think you can judge any player on this season’s form. Football without fans is a completely different game and the difference between good players and great ones is their ability to play with freedom in front of 60,000 screaming fans.
We’ve seen the likes of Luke Shaw finally show that he’s a player this season as he’s not under pressure from the toxic Old Trafford terraces.
Once fans are back next season normal service will be resumed and chaff will be chaff again and the likes of Mane will be ripping defences apart.

{Ed077's Note - Shaw playing well is a result of him finding fitness and Telles providing genuine threat for his spot in the team. He was horrendus until Telles signed for us this year too.}

04 Apr 2021 10:41:18
Please stop with wage figures. No way ramsey earns anything like 400k a week. It is still very high what he earns for the output he gives but its nowhere near 400k.

{Ed077's Note - even if its half, its still too much for an injury prone player.}

04 Apr 2021 11:04:53
Sorry but for those saying mane has to leave, you are all clueless. Firmino has to leave, for me, despite what a great player her has been for the team, he doesn’t bring that anymore. He can’t score, he’s lost pace, he hardly tracks back, he was largely missing from the game against arsenal, which has been the case for most of this season. So for me, the first person out of the front three that should be sold should be firmino, as much as I hate to say it.

04 Apr 2021 11:05:10
the general rule of thumb seems to be that some fans just need to bag one player and insist they are sold. no loyalty, no big picture, just negative get rid mentality.

04 Apr 2021 11:22:15
Great thread by the way, good to have some differing opinions argued out properly! Having read all the posts, there is obviously a big split between fans of who should be sold.
My two cents worth: People need to also Co aider the bigger picture overall in that our front three are all nearing their 30's (makes it sound old! ) during one of the worst years in modern football financially. Realistically, a shake up if the squad is required, and not just at the front. Our midfield is also in a similar age bracket and the club have to be extremely careful to maintain the last few years success, and the only way to do that is by refreshing the squad with quality.
It is well known LFC do not have the funds of other big clubs, so it is vital that the club raise money through sales to afford this quality. Unfortunately, with the emergence of Haaland and Mbappe, it has probably taken the attention of Mané and Salah by the big spenders, who have now put their financial focus on the other two.
That may be a good thing for some fans, but it also likely means if bids were to even come in for one of our front three, it will likely not be anywhere near the valuation we fans expect.
I think the club is about to arrive at a cross road and needs to make some very smart decisions ions to secure the next 5-10 years of success. Yes, we have some good youngsters coming through, but the next 2 transfer windows will be huge for LFC in my opinion and the only way to do that is by selling a high value asset or two.

04 Apr 2021 12:17:08
Faithinworks, nothing to do with not being loyal or a get rid mentality, it’s about building for long term success and with Mane and Firmino both being 29 and evidently not as effective as before, it is economic sense to sell and refresh the squad.

Players are transient employees, Mane isn’t thinking about the supporters when he gets his agents go flirt with Madrid, Barcelona and PSG is he?

There’s absolutely no doubt he’s been a great signing for us, but he’s now at the age where he’s not as effective as he once was, so it’s sensible to sell as we don’t have the benefit of being owned by a Middle East government with limitless funds or a Russian oligarch with equally unlimited funds and have to raise funds by selling.

As it is we do need seriously improve what we have. Wijnaldum is leaving, we need to move on and replace the likes of Keita, Ox, Shaqiri and Milner as for various reasons they’re not good enough, injury prone or in Milner’s case, age has caught up with him (he was terrible against Arsenal), Matip is made of glass and can’t be relied upon, we obviously need a fourth centre back, but it looks like Phillips is good enough to be fourth choice and Kabak is improving game by game so that could save a fortune.

We have a ready made replacement for Mane in Jota (a player I was delighted to see us sign as he always looked quality for Wolves), Firmino does need replacing and selling both Mane and Firmino would allow us to buy a good quality replacement and bring in some quality in midfield.

04 Apr 2021 13:33:51
I’d keep all the front 4. Let another look too much into this season. Games every 3 days, no fans no rest period etc. I think they all deserve at least one more season in front of our fans to celebrate their achievements. Then at the end of next season maybe look to move one or two of them on. I would shift on Wilson, Ojo, Grujic, Shaq, The Ox, Origi, Gini, Matip and Davies. That will allow us to buy an attacking player to compliment what we already have and leave Elliot to have another year out on loan. No need to bring another midfielder in, wait another year for that to see what Keita and Jones can do. Keep Kabak and hopefully bring in Konate as well.

04 Apr 2021 15:29:50
If we are selling Mane solely on him being 29 does that mean Hendo, Vvd, Allison (in Oct) and Salah will have to be sold as well.

04 Apr 2021 16:25:55
I suppose time will tell that Ed77. My own feeling is though that there’s not much to choose between players at the highest level. It’s just that some perform better than others under the pressure of a full house baying for their blood.
I play a lot of golf and it’s exactly the same. I know some golfers that are brilliant until someone is watching and they crumble. It’s a completely different game in front of an audience.
This premier league season is very much like that it’s a huge leveller. It’s no coincidence that the teams doing well by and large are the ones that don’t rely on their fans to get them over the line in tight games and who’s fans can actually hinder their team like City and West Ham and in recent years Man Utd.

{Ed077's Note - I agree some people handle pressure really well and some can't. Some players excel under the pressure and expectations while others simply crumble.

But Shaw was simply poor end of last season, begging of this even without fans. He has improved since the arrival of Telles. Might just be coincidence or maybe not.

04 Apr 2021 17:30:25
Difference with Mane, JK, is that he is not at the levels he was, whereas Henderson has continually got better with age and experience and centre backs and keepers generally have an higher ceiling in terms of their age and being effective. Whereas generally speaking, a very fair percentage of wingers tend to become less effective with age, it seems that Mane is one of those. Salah is still doing it at the top level and I reckon he’s got another four or five years at the top level looking at him. It makes economic sense to sell Mane and improve starting 11 as he’s still got a high value in the market still, I can’t recall Chelsea being sentimental about selling Hazard, they just cashed in and spent the money.

04 Apr 2021 17:32:44
Champs2020, we’ve had three years of waiting to see what Keita can do and I can tell you, absolutely nothing. The guy is a waster and a big time Charlie. We do need quality midfield reinforcements as Milner isn’t up to it anymore, Keita is just not up to it full stop and Gini is leaving.

04 Apr 2021 18:33:00
6Times I can definitely see where you’re coming from mate and whilst I agree Mane hasn’t been to his usual standards if he had scored a few more of the chances he has missed then it could be a totally different conversation. To me he looks like a player that is trying to hard and is short of confidence in the box rather than a player in decline. The frustrating part for me last night was after he slipped the first 2 times why didn’t he change his boots to longer studs. Salah could have had 3 last night and so could have Mane. The only difference in withered performance was Salah got a goal and Mane didn’t. For me both are still as good as they have been but have both been playing in a struggling team. When you’re both the key men to opposition it’s quite hard to leave your mark.

04 Apr 2021 19:53:18
Cool debate.
I’m in a minority I think as I don’t see either of Mane, Salah or Firmino being sold this Summer.
They’re all just too good, too durable and represent absolutely zero risk for Klopp and Liverpool.
They’re the modern day equivalents of Dalglish and the like, the only way they leave is if they want to.
I can see quite a few squad / fringe players leaving.
But if we can add maybe 3 or 4 quality additions, we’re good to go again in my view.

04 Apr 2021 20:30:36
6tumes - if fans were in charge there would be new players and manager every season. Mane has been a key player for us, has the perfect attitude and style for Klopp. Got C.V. at start of year and all people want to look at is his lack of goals and are ready to move him on. Like people who wanted Klopp gone, he deserves more loyalty in assessment than that.

05 Apr 2021 00:48:07
I too don't think any of the front 3 will be sold this summer. The exception being Salah; if his head is turned and he decides to behave like Suarez and Coutinho. And even then, in this CV financial environment I don't see anybody wanting to put a 100 to 120 Million down (or close to it) on any of them; I don't see Edwards being ready to sell for less than that either. So it's a stalemate either way, and meanwhile there are contracts to be fulfilled until 2023. I'd be willing to bet that 2 of our front 3 will be here when their contracts are up and will leave on free Bosmans.

06 Apr 2021 22:03:36
Literally Faithinworks, forwards are rightly judged on goals, both those created and those scored and Mane has not been doing it for a very long time, as a microcosm, he was awful against Arsenal and again tonight against Madrid. Time for a refresh, sell him now while he has value, bring someone younger to refresh our front line. Nothing to do with loyalty, players are very rarely loyal to clubs, absolute fact. They’re just employees at the end of the day. Sell Mane, Keita, Origi, Wilson, Grujic, Matip, Shaqiri, Oxlade Chamberlain and possibly Firmino.

07 Apr 2021 12:01:36
i saw a post somewhere that the hair growth hormones that Rooney and Mane had can affect the whole system. Some Mancs claim that Rooney going off the boil coincided with his hormone treatment, which apparently reduces the male hormone.
We found Fab for a relatively cheap price, along with many other great players, and we will do it again, however we will not be receiving what we would have a couple of years back for any of the star players due to the situation. That also means that other players will be cheaper too.
