Apparently we are about to make a bid for Raphinha.

Hope so. But doubt anything will happen. Thanks for the tip off.

Counting the spare change down the back of the sofa and raiding the kids money box first?

Would he come to us to sit on the bench because he's only got 6 goals and 9 assists in 30 games so he’s not starting ahead of salah! He would be a good shaq replacement I suppose but would that stop Elliot progress. We definitely need a stronger bench and he would do that if he’s happy to.

I think he would be to expensive to to sit on the bench only see us getting him if Salah was leaving. So I hope not.

6 goals and 9 assists being 15 goal contributions is joint 10th most in the league. A good return but he had joint 5th most big chances created and 6th for key passes per game Bamford also had the most ‘big chances missed’ so those number can definitely go up especially in a better team. Raphinha on the right with Salah up top sounds good to me.

Ed's have told us many times that Salah's agent has been hawking him around for ages and that he is looking for a last huge contract. With Mbappe leaving, there is an opening at PSG, who clearly have the funds.
I have no fear about anyone leaving these days, since the team is never about one player.
IF we are about to bid to Raph, it must be because Salah or Mane is moving on.
Personally the Mbappe/ Salah swap seems to be the best course of action at this time. We can throw Matip into the bargain also.

Spaceman salah leaves and we drop a level his goals to games ratio is lethal!
I’d be not that confident if he left!
He’s not appreciated enough and like the saying goes you won’t miss it till it’s gone!

If Salah leaves we’ve got to find a player capable of scoring 25+ goals a season minimum. None of the mooted replacements such as Raphinha, Traore or Sarr are that player as there is absolutely no evidence that they can score at that level of consistency at a top level for more than one year (for the record Salah had scored 14 and 15 in the seasons preceding his joining us in a good league) .

if Salah goes, we may need 2 players to replace him. a RW and a FW with better scoring than Firmino. But can the FW do do what he does? or an absolute goal scoring CM in the mold of Gerrard / Lampard in their hey days. is there such a CM that is within our reach?

I think if Salah leaves, it leaves us with more than one gap to fill.

VVVV, isn't Patson Daka that sort of player? German league is pretty decent and he's scored 24 and 27 goals in the league over the last 2 seasons. Strike rate of around 0.8 goals per game or better.

Looking at SOFIFA (sorry! ) he has good stats for pace/ mobility and finishing.

{Ed0666's Note - Daka plays in the Austrian league mate.

Raphinha is class, anyone who watched much of Leeds would see he is at the heart of most things good they do. I would jump at the chance of signing him and think there is room in the side for him to get decent game time. Salah and Mane have AFCON plus I could see Salah and Jota rotating with Firmino through the middle leaving him a place outwide.
He seems to fit the bill with what Klopp looks for in a player and he’s tenacious both with and without the ball and he’s a similar profile to a few other signings he’s made that have turned into world class operators.
That being said the 32m being banded around looks rubbish to me, I’d say it will take double that to sign him.

{Ed0666's Note - 32 million for raphinha sounds like pie in the sky to me also mate. That’s 3 million less than Andy caroll and 23 times the player

Ah bugger! Sorry Ed0666! Its all Europe, isn't it :D :D

:hides face:

{Ed0666's Note - at least you got something right today lol

Can’t deny Daka looks a good player, seems like a natural finisher, is quick, good in the air, technique seems good and strong. Only question is can he step up from a weaker league, but then Mane and Haaland both did easily, so it could be well worth a punt.
