I think Moyes would be good for the bluenoses. A match made in heaven!

01 Jun 2021 18:24:55
There's a better chance of Gerrard managing the New York Yankees.

01 Jun 2021 17:35:03
Saw it reported in The Athletic. I think we can now confirm that The Athletic is absolute dross and we should never pay attention to anything they report ever again.

01 Jun 2021 19:43:05
Rufusthered, The Athletic is actually banned on the Liverpool subreddit, along with you know the one and Daily Mail so your opinion is already well shared.

01 Jun 2021 20:18:42
IronDan it's the way they've managed to brainwash their readers into thinking their journos are ITK and reliable to justify a subscription fee that gets me. Daylight robbery.

01 Jun 2021 23:19:03
I don’t know anything about the Liverpool subreddit but a quick glance at their banned sources and the Athletic is not one of them, so you appear to be lying IronDan.

People don’t read the Athletic because they have’ITK’ writers, they read it because it’s the best place to get in depth football analysis that takes longer than 2 minutes to read.

You guys are probably better off sticking to Twitter anyway.

02 Jun 2021 00:34:01
And who's doing that analysis Thunderbird? James Pearce? The guy has no more footballing knowledge than anyone else on this site. He just gets paid to write about what everyone else talks about in the pub.

An example. For months he was writing how what Firmino did other than score goals which was why he was so good (I agree Firmino's creative and pressing work is key for us by the way and it is a popular opinion of many fans) . However almost instantaneously he changed his position and was writing how Firmino's been poor for a long time and we need to replace him with a new striker. You can guarantee if Firmino picks up a bit of form next season, Pearce is going to write how it was inevitable and how he always knew Firmino would come through again. He's a complete joke.

As for his transfer target analysis, he basically picks a few random names from around Europe for positions he thinks we need to buy. He then compares their xG stats and writes a paragraph or two about each one. Anyone can do that.

What I have read from the other journalists on the site is much of the same. Their in-depth analysis is not based on any kind of expertise in football. None of them have worked in football coaching, recruitment, scouting or analysis. With a The Athletic subscription, all you are paying for is fans with journalism qualifications to write about their take on things as well as clickbait bogus articles.

{Ed0666's Note - To be fair the Athletic broke the Konate to Liverpool story before anyone else but granted most of the time they don’t have their ears to the ground and piggy back on other news outlets for exclusives and aren’t usually ones to break stories. As for a Pearce I agree I don’t think he’s been an ITK for a long while even before he left the Echo. What the Athletic do well are interesting lengthy articles on a variety of sports which are engaging reading. I especially like their Boxing, MMA and soccer articles. Oh and they do good question and answer pieces with their journos

02 Jun 2021 01:13:02
I'll give them that ed. It's good subscribers get the opportunity to ask the journos something they particularly want to know.

I have only really read them from a football perspective so I don't know how good their intel is on other sports. I know they are an American site so I guess they might have their ear to the ground on what's going on in those sports they established themselves in. They have only been covering football for a couple of years.

Yeah James Pearce is definitely practising if you can't make it, fake it. By that I mean he wants people to think he's a lot more in the loop than he actually is. I remember a few years ago he wrote some article about Lucas potentially leaving and Lucas called him out on it.

{Ed0666's Note - I actually enjoy the articles in the athletic as I do lots of publications/websites and periodicals. It’s good to have a varied perspective I think. Yeh Pearce is not even getting any exclusives I just think he’s regarded by his peers because he is a senior hack not that he’s especially great but I could be wrong as I don’t read his work as it’s not interesting to me but he may have improved?

02 Jun 2021 05:05:24
I’m sensing that James Pearce may have slept with rufusthereds wife.

02 Jun 2021 05:14:03
I know you've defended him before Thunderbird. I just don't know why you think the sun shines out of him because he is a fraud. It annoys me how he acts like he is privy to what's going on behind the scenes when he clearly doesn't.

02 Jun 2021 05:54:10
I was just talking about The Athletic rufus, which I think is the best sports outlet available, you are the one obsessed with James Pearce.

{Ed001's Note - I'm hurt! :-P

02 Jun 2021 08:11:30
Not really. James Pearce is the main Liverpool reporter for The Athletic so, as we're on a Liverpool page, it's completely relevant. If you want to waste your money on that, it's up to you.

02 Jun 2021 09:15:27
I know that Carra and Owen were Everton fans in their youth. Was Gerrard, or has he always been a red?

02 Jun 2021 09:42:23
Always a red Zeddicus although apparently an aunt or uncle dressed him in an Everton kit as a kid and took a picture of him when they won the league.

02 Jun 2021 14:58:16
Sports reporting is full of transactional relationships. James Pearce does a lot of good work and gets a lot of great scoops, but the trade off is that he also often gets fed nonsense purposely by his sources, as the club also uses him as an extension of their PR department. I'd love to know if he believes that's actually going on, and if he cares.
