Renato Sanches rumours are gathering a lot of pace this morning. Apparently some Portuguese Journo has said he'll be joining Liverpool for €35m.

I guess his wages are only a third of what Saul will be asking for.

Yep i think we have agreed a fee with lille to sign him. Some very good sources are claiming this now.

I really think its a bit of a luxury signing and he is not a very injury free player either. Also Does this mean it is the end for keita?
Apparently the fee is only 25 million. That cannot be true.

05 Jul 2021 09:48:16
Yh but he's less 1/ 10th of the player so it makes no sense.

I would be very concerned about his injury record and his ability to cope with the workload of a Klopp midfield. However, he has the raw materials.

Given Gini's consistent availability, Keita/ Ox non-availability and Hendo/ Fab's muscle injuries, this would be a pretty big gamble.

I can see the logic of Bissouma, Neuhaus or Tielemans - their injury records have been impeccable.

Sanches over Camavinga? Sounds like a bit of a gamble by the club if true.

{Ed002's Note - They are totally different players and Liverpool has no interest in Camavinga.}

Akira, Keita is poor and lazy. No longer concerned about him and if I had my way, he would be the first one to be flogged off even before Origi cos at least Origi actually gives a flip about the club, it's fans and the city which is why he is loved by the whole club and esp in team mates and manager.

As for Sanches, I would not mind him signing for us and if h does, be sure Klopp and his mad geniuses must have run the rule over him. I however, do not expect him to start right away as he will be eased in which is the way Klopp does things and it has worked. We shall see.

I'm completely at peace with just trusting Klopp and his team at this point, if Sanches signs then I'm all for it!

Only niggle is whether Kieta can get shipped out to accommodate him, don't want to be a hater but I sense he'll just take up a space in the squad and I'm quite happy with Jones taking that spot.

{Ed077's Note - I am starting to think the injury records in the player database at LFC is broken, with the signing of Konate and now, as per the posters, the probable signing of Sanches. Weird that considering the fact that LFC's season was thrown off the rails by injury issues last season.

05 Jul 2021 11:41:37
Ed, are we really signing him?

{Ed077's Note - people here seem to think so.}

I wonder how Naby would respond to being shunted down the pecking order. Tantrum or pull his finger out? His career is in danger of fading fast, from great hope to squad lurker.

05 Jul 2021 11:12:39
Too many stories floating around making out that such and such a signing is immanent . I won't be holding my breath over Sanches joining anytime soon and believe the ed's call that it will be Biss or Florian N, unless someone else is moving on and needs replacing .
Good to know re Camavinga Ed, thought he'd be on most peoples radars at that price.

Ed002, would love to hear your thoughts on Sanches. You seem to have a good insight into French football. Do you think it's a sensible signing if Liverpool can make a deal happen? And do you think he can be a success at Liverpool? I can't say i've seen him play at club level since he left Swansea.

{Ed002's Note - Renato Sanches (CM) Lille are happy to let the player move on due to the constant muscle injuries he suffers; they wanted €20M cash or €30M with payments spread out although that could increase if Jorge Mendes can find multiple bidders. Klopp has praised him in the past and he would be a more affordable replacement for Wijnaldum, but not the preferred option for Liverpool. There has been a discussion with Arsenal and he will likely be offered to Spurs as well. Prior interest of Wolves will likely have left with NES.

The concern would be injury issues and, although talented, he is inconsistent.}

Nobody should care about how Naby responds. There's no excuse for a player not giving it his all.

05 Jul 2021 12:53:01
Cheers Ed. Feels similar to the Konate transfer in that he's a very highly rated young player who is available for a relatively low fee due to injury concerns. Thanks for the feedback.

It doesn’t it well with me Ed002, not that I’m relevant in all of this but as a supporter…Our campaign was derailed by injuries last season

With the clubs finances not in great shape, If RS were to sign, would that signal the end of our interest in Bissouma or Neuhaus?

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Unless someone else were to leave, I would think yes.}

05 Jul 2021 14:29:12
Ok thanks ed002.

Chronic muscle injuries can mean a couple things. Usually it's that the player has a physical impediment that makes them prone to them, or they are not committed to eating right and training properly and push themselves too hard while in "poor" health. Neither bodes well for Sanches and Liverpool as a fit, especially when you consider that Klopp prefers a small squad with players that carry a heavy work load. This would be quite a project.

Following on from what you said mftonjes, I remember reading that Nat Phillips became vegan during his time at Stuttgart after being advised this could help with him having issues with regular swelling and niggles due to this. Could be wrong on a couple of details there but I wanted to follow on potentially to the eds, do clubs now and in particular Liverpool place a stronger emphasis on specialized individual diets if there are signs of consistent injuries or maybe even individualized training routines to either strengthen support muscles in problem areas or in helping to prevent stress on problem areas?

I think I remember ed001 (could be wrong) a couple of years back saying that while this side of the game was developing it was still quite far behind a lot of other top level sports I was wondering is there now more emphasis on this?

{Ed001's Note - yes, Klopp brought in Mona to develop individual diet plans and meals for the players. Lots of other clubs do similar things now and it is becoming a very normal part of the game. It used to be left to the players, but that is changing thankfully.}

Lewandowski doesn't eat meat on the day of a match as your body wouldn't have it broken down. Clearly works wonders for him, cracking player!
