Salah reportedly asking 500k a week to sign new contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Sep 2021 13:04:46
Sorry but that's a £250,000 a week rise. I know he has been superb for us, but really! This is like being held to ransom. Sell him at the end of the season, get someone else in.

05 Sep 2021 13:47:30
First if all, is it true? Is that basic or with bonuses? Details.

05 Sep 2021 14:17:47
Only reported on BBC via Sunday Mirror
Could see it being true if he is looking around at the sort of wages paid by other clubs for top talent.
I'd agree though the rift it would cause would be worse than the wage bill hit.
Cash out time most likely.

05 Sep 2021 15:53:00
I don’t know why we’d cash out he’s the best performer for years. Finding a replacement even close to his level would be very difficult.

05 Sep 2021 16:13:35
If we won't pay the wages (not saying we will or won't) but seems to be approximately double his salary right?
Then what cascading effect does it have on the rest of the team? Does Mane Bobby VVD etc all want the same sort of money? How do we balance those books?

Agree he is the best return we have had in a long long time but setting expectations of those sort of wages has caused issues for other clubs with much deeper pockets than LFC.

Anyway just a rumour. Could be total bs :)

05 Sep 2021 16:17:37
Why would he not ask for it? His record speaks for itself if he was playing for city, United, psg, Madrid, Barcelona he would be handed that without asking. What he brings to the table is worth it's weight in gold he deserves it.

05 Sep 2021 17:23:54
It’s reported in a number of outlets, given that his agent has been making noises too, I think there might be a grain of truth in it. Ultimately, I guess the question is, how easily replaceable is he if it is true. I would suggest that he’s not easy to replace and certainly it would be expensive.

{Ed0666's Note - if he wants 500k a week he needs to go. Simple mate.

05 Sep 2021 17:41:03
The question then is why don't we offer likes of halland or mbappe £600k.

05 Sep 2021 19:16:08
I assume those are the kind of figures that got him laughed out of Madrid, and that's when they had money to blow.

05 Sep 2021 19:38:42
This Liverpool team without Salahs goals struggle to make to 4 though. He's that important, he's absolute top class. Big decision ahead for the club.

05 Sep 2021 19:37:15
Ed666, and the alternative? Genuine question.

{Ed0666's Note - you really want someone holding the club to ransom? If indeed he is as I take what 99% of the media say with a pinch of salt. We can’t be bowing to such demands if they are genuine. There’s no reason we can’t get another high output player, I’m not saying it’s easy but it’s not impossible. If you give salah 300k, 400k or 500k the the other world class players in the squad will want the same or a similar amount and any prospective player you but who is on that talent level then you risk anarchy.

05 Sep 2021 19:46:07
Click bait rubbish from the Mirror and the S•n. Nothing to see here. Keep it moving, pls.

05 Sep 2021 19:51:33
Half of the time these tabloids want to drive hate campaigns against players trying to prove that they are exceedingly greedy, or they just run clcikbait for gullible fans. I would pay no attention to it.

The club has a business model which has already brought success. If Salah's demands are in excess then the club will find a replacement. Salah is not replaceable but the team can be tweaked to play to the strengths of another incoming player to give a somewhat equally effective outcome.

{Ed0666's Note - we need a bit of an overhaul in the summer anyway selling Salah in the summer would certainly add a few pennies to that transfer treasure trove. And if indeed his demands are too excessive then he goes with mucho blessings, love and goodwill as he’s been morning short of an exemplary employee of LFC. The king is dead long live the king.

05 Sep 2021 20:14:45
500k supposed to be not true. Fingers crossed he is more sensible about the increase in salary to stay with us and push on :)

05 Sep 2021 20:20:11
I don’t think we can bring in anyone to play LW is going to get near Salah’s numbers. £300k a week is fair.

05 Sep 2021 20:32:18
Is he/ would he be holding the club to ransom though? Is it not just free market economics?

Salah values his services thus. If we look at alternative performers of a similar capability, are we not in that sort of territory anyway.

Not saying the club should just pay if it's not sustainable. But if it's not sustainable for us then I worry what we will be able to fund in terms of future personnel.

Bearing that in mind is it not better to just pay (albeit after thorough negotiations) to maintain a proven performer than risk it all on unknowns?

I don't buy into all players will want to have their contracts reviewed. Look at Barca, in light of Messi leaving their wage structure has been heavily scrutinised in the public eye. From the figures published there are seemingly odd disparities across the squad.

We all love Bobby, Sadio, VVD but barring perhaps the latter if anyone else in our squad thinks they are up there with Mo then they are delusional. Mane has come close, we know, but it's not about your best season it's about your next season.

We've been told to expect two of our established front three to be moved on in 2022. So, we will see. Would not agreeing these terms now, let alone the length of contract, inflate his price next summer?

I think it's time to cash in, personally. And I think Mbappe is definitely doable if we can suitably navigate this situation with Mo. It will be telling, anyway.

05 Sep 2021 20:49:43
Ed0666 I said earlier on today I love Salah been great since his been here but if he has asked for £500k a week he needs to be sold. Paying him that would set the benchmark for all are players signing new contracts and new signings putting the club in long term trouble. And it does not look good to me Salah asking for that in the middle of C.V. when people losing jobs the clubs are losing millions you see players of clubs in other countries Taking pay cuts and premier league players still getting there full wages.
Looks like pure greed.
But I do not believe 98% of crap in the papers so I hope they can agree new contract with Mo.

05 Sep 2021 20:50:32
Is salah not already on a base 200 a week but can earn an extra 200 a week in bonus payments which I'd say he gets allot of the time?

06 Sep 2021 00:12:43
That has to be click bate rubbish. What player that is 29 could command such a fee? Let alone in a team such as Liverpool. I'd take it with a pinch of salt. If it was true, then i'd say thanks very much, you been great, but see you later. It will never happen and i think we all know that to be true.

06 Sep 2021 09:06:38
It’s probably not a ridiculous request when you think Sancho is on 350k.

06 Sep 2021 10:38:32
Salah was not a proven premier league performer when we signed him. There will be plenty of others to replace him which is what the scouts get paid to do.
Salah has been vying for a move for the last 2/ 3 seasons because he wants ridiculous wages. The club should be not held to ransom.
We survived before Salah, we’ll survive after Salah.
If reports are true, which I doubt, then I’d sell him in the summer and wish him all the best.

06 Sep 2021 18:04:13
Perhaps the 500k is with all the bonuses and extras etc.

07 Sep 2021 03:50:55
Would any of our rivals pay him 500K? Doubt it. Some fans genuinely aren't happy with club success unless it was achieved by spending as much money as possible.

07 Sep 2021 04:23:35
I’d take the tabloid quotes with a pinch of salt, full of rubbish most the time.

If though it were true, we’d have to seriously think about what we do. If we pay salah £500k per week, it blows the wage structure out of the water, with other senior players thinking “ hang on a minute, where’s my bumper pay rise.

I’d hate to see Salah go, he’s been superb but it wouldn’t be the end of the world. So many thought the team would fall apart when we sold coutinho, look what happened.

Lots of big clubs sell star players, we’ve done it all through our history- fergie was the master at it in the 90’s and 00’s - And just recently Chelsea, sold Hazard and a few others, invested well and now have a great squad

I.
