Hi Ed mate,
Do you see us making a push for Sanches and Traore in January.

{Ed002's Note - Renato Sanches (CM) Lille are happy to let the player move on due to the constant muscle injuries he suffers; they wanted €20M cash or €30M with payments spread out although that could increase if Jorge Mendes can find multiple bidders or if there is no sale in January. Klopp has praised him in the past and he would be a more affordable replacement for Wijnaldum, but interest is not yet firm again. Barcelona had a sustained interest but they have moved on. I had thought prior interest of Wolves would likely have left with NES but they could still take a chance on him joining on a loan to buy deal after his recent injury - they may even be in a position to look for a cheaper straight cash deal in January. Milan may provide an option but would rather save money and utilise loanees Tommaso Pobega and Yacine Adli to cover for the departing Kessie. The concern would be injury issues and, although talented, he is inconsistent.
Adama Treore (RW) Valencia, Leeds and West Ham have asked Wolves about his availability and it would not be a surprise to see some interest from Spurs. Could potentially still interest Klopp who has had the hots for him before. Wolves will want a new contract agreed. Liverpool interest has not gone away and Adama Traore is not keen on a new contract at Wolves. If a move were to happen, one of the "front three" would certainly leave in the summer. To fund it Liverpool would either need to sell players, Wolves to accept a payment plan again or they would have to borrow the money. As I have said before, Klopp really likes him and it is certainly a possibility but there is little return in goals and Sarr might be a better option in that respect.

We see this “constantly injured player needs a move” scenario a lot.

I was wondering if anyone could think of a notable time where it actually worked out for the buyer? Danny ings maybe but his injuries were long term. I’m talking guys that can’t stay off the treatment table like Sturridge.

{Ed002's Note - Michael Essien?}

12 Nov 2021 11:52:36
Regrettably it is entirely likely that we’re looking at wasting money on these two, which is mind blowing given that Sanches isn’t capable of playing half a season without going on a long term sicky and Traore couldn’t score goals if you made the goals 10 feet wider either side and 10 feet taller and insisted that all keepers were the same height as Lorenzo Insigne.

JWH might as well light as just burn a huge pile of cash outside the front of Anfield as sign either of those two.

Talk in the Echo that Xavi at Barcelona may be interested in Thiago.
That could be a better fit for him than Liverpool?

{Ed002's Note - Thiago Alcantara (CM) Could be sacraficed to make space for additions.}

12 Nov 2021 13:37:08
That’s a good shout Ed. He had a pretty good run didn’t he 😂.

12 Nov 2021 15:24:36
In fairness to Essien, he’d largely been ever present for Lyon before he joined Chelsea, it was only when he ruptured his cruciate at Chelsea that he started being a bit injury prone.

Sanches has barely ever been available for half the games in a season whoever he has played for and never played more than 24 games in a league season, ever. The bloke was injured right at the start of this season for two months. That should be a huge red flag.

The only other time I can think buying a player with an iffy injury record has paid off was Chelsea taking a punt on Demba Ba. Though that didn’t work out well for us.

Thing is, we cannot afford to make the mistake of punting on injury prone footballers hoping that they might miraculously stay fit. A footballer is of absolutely no use if all they do is occupy the treatment table.

{Ed001's Note - Ba did not have an iffy injury record, he had a degenerative knee condition.}

If I was a betting man I would not be at all surprised to see TA going back to Barcelona.

{Ed0666's Note - they have less money than us mate. I wouldn’t bet on it.

I knew it was something injury related that put buyers off.

13 Nov 2021 03:24:27
If we get rid of Thiago and replace him with Sanches and Traore there are people on here who are going to need our help with their therapy programs.

13 Nov 2021 08:28:10
There are people on here who need help with therapy programs anyway WDW!

13 Nov 2021 09:28:20
If we sold Thiago and brought in those two, the recruitment team should be given their p45’s. They’re not players to sign if we have any intention of competing for the title.

13 Nov 2021 10:28:35
VVVV if you read half the posts on here we're not competing for the title anyway and will be lucky to finish in the Top 4.

13 Nov 2021 12:30:01
@VVVV - genuine question - in pushing on for nearly a season and a half, ignoring Thiago’s reputation, would you say that he has been a genuine, consistent force in our midfield? Being honest, I think he has been the stand out player on two, maybe three occasions.

13 Nov 2021 13:41:34
He has been Keita standard so far.

13 Nov 2021 15:48:11
I don’t think Thiago has lived up to his reputation. But that said, selling him to bring in a midfielder who is technically inferior and has a worse injury record, as well as bringing in the least effective winger operating in European football (if not the world football), that would be stupid beyond belief.

Oh mane mane, well Sanches and Traore aren’t players you’d bring in if you wanted to get top four either! They have a distinct whiff of Spurs about them.

13 Nov 2021 18:13:24
Keita and Ox need to be sold before Thiago leaves.

14 Nov 2021 01:57:33
I think Thiago played very well last third of last season, once he'd settled into the team and wasn't having to play the no. 6 role cos Fabinho was at center back.

14 Nov 2021 04:43:32
For me he played better towards the end of last season but very well only now and then. To be honest I was hoping for / expected more.

14 Nov 2021 12:35:34
Tbh out of our current crop of midfielders I do think we need to move 1 or 2 on who are injury prone. Fabinho and hendo - outside of Jones and Elliot - are the only two id say are 100% not for sale, excluding Milner as I don’t think anyone would ‘buy’ him.

If it meant bringing in a more reliable player fitness wise, I’d be fine seeing any of Thiago Keita and ox go, with Keita go - however in a purely financial sense, this may be the only time we could recuperate any money for Thiago with his age .

14 Nov 2021 17:58:15
He’s flopped. Like Keita. We’ve replaced Gini a couple of times and made a bit of Twit of it.

16 Nov 2021 05:01:06
I would let both Ox and Thiago go.
Keep Keita for the rest of the season and then get rid of him in the summer too!
I would hope Klopp reinforces big time in the summer, and I would personally go for Neuhaus and one other.
