Ed's

Do you see a bit a
Of a mass clear out of the club in the summer?
As things stand out 1st 11 can give anyone a game on their day but as a squad (particularly midfield) we are lacking for a real title challenge
Can we expect a lot of sales as their are a few that aren't up to it no more.

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know what a "bit of a mass clear out" is.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Why a mass clear out? We have a great squad, a mass clear out will equal transition, do it bit by bit.

Perhaps not a mass clear out as such but there is a significant amount of players who’s contracts run out in the next 18mths. Decisions are going to have to be made around them all. Are new contracts offered? Will they sign them? Do we sell this summer? Do we let them run down their contracts?

Milner and Origi contracts run out this summer.
Mané, Salah, Firmino, Kieta and Ox’s contracts run out next summer.
Thiago and Hendo aren't getting any younger.
The only “established” midfielder under the age of 26 is Jones, and he’s only 20.
Minamino isn’t really cutting the mustard, so what do we do with him?

For me, there’s a lot of questions around the squad that need solved in the next window or 2.

A squad that lacks quality in depth, we have been under funded since we won the CL, have missed a big opportunity to win another Prem or CL due to owners who like to build their investment and buy up other teams rather than invest in our squad, we need owners as focused on the team as they are about building a profile, success on the pitch is vital, i feel we have missed a big chance over these last 3 years.

Mighty reds I don’t think you can say we have a great squad. The squad needs quite a lot of work imo.

Lancaster, the only problem with your comment and that of everyone else saying the same thing, is that the last 3 years has also included a global C.V. that has decimated LFC's annual revenue for the last 2 years. Now, Ed002 will correct me here if I am wrong I am sure, but if Liverpool were to go out and re-invest in the squad in the last 3 years without selling players, we would have fallen foul of FFP I assume. The rules were relaxed slightly I believe, but coupled with payments required on previous transfers and loan repayments, we probably didn't have much to spare.
It isn't a case of the owners just injecting £100m to be spent on transfers as it doesn't work that way.

I think the longer Salah’s negotiations run on the more difficult it will be, can be almost certain that he’ll want to see improvement (and by that I mean high quality additions) to the playing squad as this is his last big contract and he’ll want to ensure he’s in a competitive team (much like Torres and Suarez), if that’s not forthcoming then I suspect that not even the much touted mythical figure of £500’000 pw would be enough as he could easily earn that at PSG/ Madrid/ Bayern/ City and be almost guaranteed trophies every year too.

A harsh reality.

Stuie, they have done their bit and been good for us, but they can't take us any further and we will continue to fall further back, we aren't living in 2010 anymore, what was the excuse before C.V.?
