Renato Sanches deal seems to be happening according to reports in Portugal and Spain. You know if they're wide of the mark Ed002? I know you said he was of interest last summer.

{Ed002's Note - I gave you an update a few weeks ago and explained:
Renato Sanches (CM) Lille are happy to let the player move on due to the constant muscle injuries he suffers; they wanted €20M cash or €30M with payments spread out although that could increase if Jorge Mendes can find multiple bidders or if there is no sale in January. Klopp has praised him in the past and he would be a more affordable replacement for Wijnaldum, but interest is not yet firm again but Liverpool could look to reducing the fee or even perhaps offering Origi in exchange - but Lille need cash. Barcelona had a sustained interest but they may have moved on. I had thought prior interest of Wolves would likely have left with NES but they could take a chance on him joining on a loan to buy deal after his recent injury - they may even be in a position to look for a cheaper straight cash deal in January. Arsenal would need to make space due to their imbalance between DM and CM. Milan may provide an option but would rather save money and utilise loanees Tommaso Pobega and Yacine Adli to cover for the departing Kessie. The concern would be injury issues and, although talented, he is inconsistent. Maybe something can be done.}

Talented but inconsistent and with constant muscle injuries, wonder where we've heard that before? 🤔🤔.

So we’ve got a lot of midfielders who like a fair bit of time off because of injury, so what is the logical thing to do? Bring in literally the most injury prone midfielder in European football?! I’m calling BS on this, It’s his agent drumming up interest. It would be batsh*t crazy to sign a player with as many chronic injury issues as Sanches, notwithstanding the fact he’s really not that good either.

My issue is more than I think a forward player is the priority and I can't see us buying 2 players in Jan.

Although we've had injuries in Midfield, we'll have a lot of options in the next few weeks.

We've two games to play till Sadio and Mo are back, and even if both get to the final on the 6th we should be able to beat Cardiff without them. Even in midfield, without sales who are we going to get in who would be a huge improvement on fab, hendo nd thiago! elliott also is on the way back.

Presumably Sanches would long to mediumm term replace Keita or Ox if he arrived, both of whom have had injury problems (and the former an effort problem) . Not really sure of the point in replacing one injury prone player with another.

Honestly I'd rather take a punt on Jason Knight for half the money. He at least has a good fitness record, excluding that one time his own manager joined training and deleted his ankle.

Vvvv I was planning on watching a Pilger documentary later, but I’m guessing you can tell me otherwise. We all know Sanches makes little sense given his injury record etc. But he has undeniable talent.

Since the Ox just got crocked yet again we must be signing Sanches to compete with him for time out injured.

17 Jan 2022 19:12:03
The cheapest option amongst all.

I'd rather go for sarr from Watford. Build for the future now.

Have you any injuries son?
Eh yeah I do!
Lovely just sign here welcome to LFC!

17 Jan 2022 23:48:17
What sort of response do you expect from the “fans” son?
The usual one.
Lovely, spot on son, YNWA.

talented, inconsistent, injury issues.

sounds like a Liverpool midfielder to me

on a serious note I've watched 2 or 3 Lille games and there are flashes of the skill and playing style that would suit our midfield. No call on whether he would be or not, but just saying that he has qualities that are understandable as to why Klopp likes him.

Sanches is not a very good choice in my opinion due to his injury record. However i do believe a midfielder is the right investment over signing a forward. We currently have Mane, Salah, Firmino, Jota, Minamino, Origi and now Gordon for 3 positions. None of them are particularly injury prone.

In midfield we have Henderson, Keita, Ox Thiago and even Milner now who struggle for fitness. We also have Elliott just returning from injury so can't rush him. In fact, Jones and Fabinho are the only reliable players. They have both had a freak injury in the last 2 season but neither were out for much more than 5 weeks.

But that's why i don't think Sanches is right. We need a reliable midfielder who can play regularly. Rice or Bellingham are who we should be targeting but almost certainly are beyond our financial capacity. Hence (in my opinion) bargain basement targets like Ousmane Dembele, Adama Traore and Renato Sanches.

Sanches is nowhere near an undeniable talent (that wonderful pass into the advertising hoarding always lives long in my memory), he’s bottled it in the top leagues and found his level in a farmers league. Thankfully it’s just nonsense as no one at the club would be that stupid to waste money on such an injury prone footballer.
