So, reports are saying that The Nunez deal is done and he will complete his medical tomorrow. £64 mill up front with £21 mill in add-ons. 6 year deal.

Glad it's over the line. I think the blokes going to be a legend for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

It’s good if Liverpool get the player they want
It’s just I really don’t see it or see what
The interest is in the player

I just think he is clumsy and not clinical

But I am sure they see sth in the player so
Let’s give the dude time.

12 Jun 2022 15:34:13
A mixture between Torres and Suarez? We have a hybrid since we couldn't get the real
Thing all those years ago. If he can match and better manes goal scoring its a great move. We
Have missed someone to turn that draws into wins!

12 Jun 2022 15:47:55
Is this the first time we sign a player that Harey posts about a million times? i swear he was begging for him early as November.

12 Jun 2022 15:53:38
Red rebel id say u cried tears when u seen us sign Andy robbo!

12 Jun 2022 15:55:38
Nunez reminds me more of Cavani.

I have reservations about his signing, but Klopp and our transfer committee know far more than me. We clearly wanted him badly and, while it is an awful lot, he is considered the man to take the mantle from Mane, Salah who have been integral in the offensive phase of play (Diaz, Nunez and Salah will be a frightening front 3. Not to forget Jota, from the bench when needed. )

12 Jun 2022 16:08:11
No way jay
I didn’t blink because we got him for free.

{Ed001's Note - no we didn't.}

12 Jun 2022 16:33:26
Redrebel mate, Andy cost us a reported £8m. You can easily double check these things before you post.

12 Jun 2022 16:46:38
I recall posters having reservations when we signed Salah! Didn't turn out to be too bad a signing.
Time will tell with Numez, however any player that virgil admits is one of his hardest opponents must have something in his locker! If he can settle as quickly as Diaz, and Diaz can add goals to his game, I'm sure things will be rosy again next season!

12 Jun 2022 16:49:23
We didn't get him 4 nothing but stewart went to Hull for 7 million just after we signed Robertson.

12 Jun 2022 16:49:50
I’ve been wanting a goal scoring CF for 2 years.
I hope Nunez is as deadly as he looked live this season because the lad was a nightmare for our defence.
I just hope he improves that touch and we have another brilliant Liverpool player no question.

12 Jun 2022 16:51:52
Redrebel1 not clinical? Correct me if I'm wrong. but doesn't he have the best or very close to stats this past season for chance conversion?! He was absolutely clinical in the games against us especially at Anfield with 2 exceptional finishes (1 ended up offside)

12 Jun 2022 17:51:08
First touch, ball retention and link up play, all poor, according to Alfredo Fumacas of the Benfica Podcast.

I’d say his technical ability is something that needs quite a bit of development and improvement.

His first touch is not the best and often we’ll see his physicality and quickness have to make up for a looser touch.

The positive is that the effort level and the way he invests himself in the game are what you can expect from Darwin on a regular basis – it’s not uncommon to see Darwin still doing sprints late in the game. He is that type of player.

Darwin’s biggest current negative is his technical level.

He has stood out this past season because of his physical traits and because Benfica became too dependent on him for goals. Essentially, due to the lack of other solutions on the field, his performances became a highlight because of Benfica’s poor season, if that makes sense: he was a standout in a disappointing overall campaign.

In terms of his valuation, with so many of Europe’s top clubs enquiring, the price was always going to be inflated.

Honestly, in my opinion, it’s a bit high for the player he is now, but time could show it to be a bargain.

Everyone thought Ruben Dias was overvalued for example, yet today the feeling is that Man City underpaid for him.

Darwin is still young and the potential is definitely there – and importantly, Liverpool’s track record in terms of signings have proven they are not wrong too often, especially with Portuguese or Portuguese-based signings like Jota and Diaz.

Darwin operated much better when he could find room in the channels and with space in front of him to use his speed and strength.

He can operate as a No. 9 searching for pockets between the centre-back and full-back, or on the wing going one-vs-one with a defender.

There he can benefit from an advantage in terms of his speed and strength.

Operating in small spaces where touch is key is where he will struggle, for example holding the ball up right in between two centre-backs or in a tight area where the touch-and-run will not be an option.

Great news about Nunez! Just his medical now apparently.
I’ve heard he’s flying into Chester Hawarden Airport at 10.28am in morning on a Cessna Citation Jet from Almeria .
Hope its all true .

12 Jun 2022 18:37:38
La it's the Babelcopter ?.

12 Jun 2022 19:05:54
I’m no football scout but even I could see that Nunez gave us a torrid time in both games against Benfica. More so than any other player we’ve faced this season.
You can say that we hold a high line and give teams chances but that just doesn’t hold up when we’ve got the joint best defence in the league.
This lad is deadly in an average Benfica team. Imagine what he’ll do with Robbo, Trent, Thiago, Salah, Diaz, Fabinho, Hendo to supply him.
I’m excited.

12 Jun 2022 19:21:47
Thank god none of our fans are in charge of anything

Every signing we have I see people who think that they know better writing guff like.

Robbo. he's useless just got relegated, not up to our standards
Diaz . he did nothing against us, why buy him
Konate. fans of his club are laughing at us, he's useless

etc etc etc

Lets welcome incoming players and judge them on how they perform for US

JK rarely buys the finished product - he develops players

Also, I won't be surprised if we replace both Mane and Salah this window.

12 Jun 2022 19:36:18
A lot of experts on here today. Just give the lad a chance and your full support and be glad we are competitive in the transfer market.

12 Jun 2022 20:11:01
I’m with u zappasnake I think both might go.

12 Jun 2022 20:18:18
I'm surprised at the 6 year deal. Usually we read about 4 and 5 year deals. Tells you the club have decided they like him enough and want to tie themselves down to this guy (when's the last time anyone saw FSG take a gamble? )

12 Jun 2022 20:38:38
Anyone suggesting his finishing is anything but excellent needs to go back and look at his finishing vs Liverpool in the champions league. Liverpool create huge amount o chances every game and we still struggle for goals in games like cl final. We’ve needed a finisher he looks like he could be the answer.

12 Jun 2022 21:20:40
I really hope he isn't flying here in a cessna. Had a terrible experience in one of those once. Never again.

12 Jun 2022 21:41:42
@Beckers Pecker, great post mate. The thing is being good / a stand out in a useful side bodes really well for the. Potential to be excellent in a top side.

The thing about us is that the sum of the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, as the old saying goes. If the lad can settle in well I think he could be an excellent buy for us.

12 Jun 2022 22:06:31
Wdw that is the nail on the head for this Liverpool klopp era. When Salah was brought in from roma he was considered by many as a quick winger who was a chelsea flop. Now there’s talk that he’s One of the best players in the world. I don’t think the players in this Liverpool team would be as successful elsewhere but at Liverpool they are in a team that plays to their strengths. Klopp has brought in players that suit the style of football he wants his teams to play.

12 Jun 2022 23:29:31
Exactly WDW.
I’m not sure about everyone else but when we played Benfica I expected him to score every time he got near the goal. He just looked so calm in front of goal and always picked the right option. You just know I top goal scorer when you see one they just take chances differently than everyone else.
I’ve been lauding him ever since even though I thought we had no chance of signing him. I truly believe he will be one of the best strikers in world football.

13 Jun 2022 00:03:00
When I started following the Red Bird over 60yrs ago, I was put off Everton (who were the superior team) by the way that their fans acted.
Smug know-alls that never missed an opportunity to put down any player that LFC signed.
We on the other hand welcomed all signings, none of whom were “big names” and waited until we saw what they could do in our team with our style of play.

I think many, including Mane and Salah have forgotten that their starring roles only allow them to shine because of the way that the team is set up to play in a way that allows them the freedom to perform at their peak.
Now to “fans”… mostly on here I can recall posts welcoming new signings in these words along the lines of:-
Milner, he’s too old and past it now
Robbo… not good enough, he was relegated for a reason
Salah… Chelsea failure and he’s not got much better in the easier Italian leagues
Konate…. Not good enough look at the Leipzig fan forums, they think he’s useless and a liability and can’t believe we are buying him.
Diaz, He’s nothing special, did nothing against us when we played them.
And now Nunez before he’s kicked a ball, see above
What he ‘s done means nothing, the stats mean very little; What is important is how he fits into JK’s system and how he grows under the coaches guidance

I trust this manager more than any of our fans, he knows what he’s doing.
We seldom buy the finished article, we buy potential and people with the right attitude

One last thing, don’t be surprised if both Mane and Salah are replaced in this window.

Ask a string of players who have left for more money to tell you about their success and happiness that they found after we lost those “Stars” from our team.
Many posters would have binned Gerrard, Rush, Carra and many others who had appalling first seasons

For god’s sake let’s welcome new signings and let’s see what they become in time.

13 Jun 2022 07:12:52
From what i've seen and heard about Nunez he is fast powerful, good striker of the ball and improving in the air. He turns up in big matches and has good movement off the ball (does tend to drift left - but that might just be because of instructions from the coach) . More importantly Benfica fans see him as being humble, having a high work rate and apparently very keen to listen and learn. Skills that he was weak in he has clearly worked on and improved (eg he was constantly getting offside to being with but is much better) . For that alone i think he will succeed. He was asked to change his style of play this year and apparently has done a good job of that. Ed2 reckons most of the top teams were looking very hard at him. It does sound like he has a similar skillset to haaland but with les injury issues. I reckon we get behind him and give him time to settle.

13 Jun 2022 07:21:28
Spaceman has just regurgitated what a pundit has said. nunez looks good to me and I've only seen him a couple of times. His record speaks for itself. Let's let the experts choose hey!

13 Jun 2022 08:08:05
And the player chose us over ManU!

13 Jun 2022 08:48:09
I think he would have got a better salary at Man utd then what we are offering for now we can guess he wants to be rich and successful and not just former.

Whether or not we over paid to get his signature at a level where man utd were not going to go. not sure on that.

{Ed025's Note - he is costing a lot of money bhav. Upwards of £85m they are saying. Now perhaps you can all stop moaning about how much Man City are spending… people who live in glass houses and all that..

13 Jun 2022 08:53:30
Don't know how Salah was a Chelsea flop when he never got a chance there. De Bruyne and Salah are in the same boat as they actually never were flops and demanded to play and to be given chances hence why both left Chelsea. Many of us thought Salah was a brilliant signing.

13 Jun 2022 09:53:29
I had reservations about salah, and I was completely wrong. You just have to trust the team, they've got it right so many times before.

Nunez looked very impressive against us in the champions league, and certainly seems to know where the net is! Hopefully he's more clinical than what we have and all those draws start turning into wins.

13 Jun 2022 10:27:40
Great to get Nunez in early rather than at the end of the window. Gives him a full pre-season along with Diaz, Carvalho and hopefully Ramsay.

13 Jun 2022 12:06:24
I’m a new poster so a big hello to everyone! With regard to Nunez, if I’ve got this correct he averages a non penalty goal every 90 mins ish, which places him top in the big 6 leagues. His touch and hold up play isn’t as bad as may seem and he works hard and can press. Seems perfect for us and likes to drift left, so when he clicks with Diaz they will pull defenders all over the place with their movement and interchanging. which should also free up space for Salah/ Bowen/ Raphina to attack. Also gives us the option of playing virtually every system known to the footballing gods. Bellingham would complete the squad for me.

13 Jun 2022 12:50:17
It would probably help if we didn't get told on here every 2 minutes that Liverpool have no money and have to sell every time to get a player, we are still looking at midfield too, so money is obviously there, this lad is the next superstar we make, he has it all and will be an absolute player.

13 Jun 2022 13:08:29
He's faster than Torres do he must be one of the fastest players in the world.

13 Jun 2022 17:51:21
Yeah but Torres has lost that burst of speed since he retired and put on 10 stone of muscle, so it wouldn't be hard.

13 Jun 2022 18:38:17
Ed25 I think you miss the point about City. They can sign £100m players without selling which means they constant improve their squad. We are only having to spend this money because we are losing Mane and possibly Salah too.
We only bought VVD and Allison because we had to sell Coutinho.
There is a world of difference between what Liverpool spend and what City spend even with this deal going through.

{Ed002's Note - you need to get over Liverpool being so hard done by. They have just agreed to a €100m player. It is embarrassing to see posts like this.}

14 Jun 2022 08:40:15
Who ever said Liverpool are hard done by Ed? Certainly not me. All I’m saying is City are bankrolled by one of the richest countries in the world so we can’t compete with them in the transfer market.
They added Grealish for £100m without weakening their squad elsewhere. Not they just added Haaland to that and they are not finished.
Us losing Mane for £40m and replacing him for £85m is just not the same thing.
But hey it’s an excuse for you to have a go at us ‘kopites’ so whatever floats your boat I suppose.

{Ed077's Note - I know you were directing your reply to another Ed but I couldn't help but jump in. City too have sold players, for big sums of money. Ferran Torres sale covered the Haaland fee, for example. And they have a loan army that can bring in a fair Chunck either as loan fee or sale.
