Saw on the Arsenal page ed002 mention that AC Milan or Liverpool could win out when asked about Marco Asensio. Was a huge talent a couple of years ago. Could Klopp bring the best out of him?

Agree0 Disagree0

JK could bring the best out of any player IF they are willing to work.

21 Jun 2022 13:33:03
Undoubted talent and could play anywhere ahead of Fabinho in our team.

With Nunez up top now to act as the focal point, more creative wide men would suit us better going forward. Considering Bowen would cost a bomb now, Asensio has similar abilities at probably half the cost. He definitely needs to work harder though, as that's what sets him and Bowen apart in my opinion; Bowen is a work horse.

{Ed0666's Note - The guy has a really sad personal life with the passing of his mother from cancer in his youth. To be fair I’m not sure he’s that good. Showed early promise but has faded dramatically.

21 Jun 2022 13:39:02
He’s not that good. He’s a big name because he’s been at Madrid but he’s not that good at all.

He will go to a team and do okay, he will be back in Spain in two years at Villarreal.

The premiership would eat him alive.

{Ed002's Note - It is Klopp you need rid of then.}

21 Jun 2022 14:01:32
For me if klopp likes him then it's good enough for me.

21 Jun 2022 13:56:42
That is sad about his mum 666. I am dreading the day either of my parents pass.

On his abilities as a player, i think he's another victim of the Real Madrid affect. If you're not Ronaldo/ Zidane, you're not good enough. I think he'd be a good replacement for Minamino and he may even go on to replace Salah in 12 months time. One thing he offers that many agree we lack, is a goal scoring threat from outside the box.

{Ed0666's Note - isn’t he a predominantly left sided player? Yes very sad about his mum the day he signed for Madrid or got his proffesional contract I can’t remember which he was in bits at the press conference.

21 Jun 2022 15:21:36
Is it looking likely ed2? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer "likely" questions like that I am afraid. There is interest as I have explained.}

21 Jun 2022 15:20:38
Good player, reminds me a bit of James Rodriguez. Unfortunately just lacks a bit of pace to be a RW in our system imo but could be a good player in CM if Klopp could convert him.

{Ed002's Note - Marco Asensio (RW/LW) Goals have largely dried up and his representative is working with a third-party agent to find a club willing to pay something like €40M for the player. The third party has said that the player ideally wants a club in the Champions League but the discussions he has had have been with Leicester City, Newcastle and Leeds so far, and admits knocking on the door of other PL clubs including Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Spurs. Player is almost certainly not open to moving to a side not in the Champions League. Milan and Juventus were approached but showed no interest, although MIlan have since met directly with his representative to discuss price having stepped back from another target. I suspect he might be seen as an option by Liverpool being able to play on either wing or in an AM role - and Liverpool have approached his reprentative. PSG provide a potential option. Real Madrid will be open to using him in a part exchange deal of some type but finding a buyer at the asking price might be difficult but will also perhaps try and do something with Dortmund. A new contract seems unlikely, but Madrid will not want him to run down his contract. Milan or Liverpool could win out.}

He mainly plays RW or attacking midfield mate.

Bloody hell, not sure i'd go ahead with a presser after that!

{Ed0666's Note - ok mate I was under the impression he played on the right

21 Jun 2022 15:42:37
Thanks Ed002, really useful info and glad to have you back.

Are his wages an issue for a potential buying club, or are they reasonable (compared to other top league European league clubs)?

21 Jun 2022 16:18:37
Actually I liked Asensio in his early years. But he didn't develop as he was meant to be. He should have left after his big injury 2-4 years back. Can't remember the year. Last season is his best in Real colors I think with respect to G/ A. Will be cheaper and better impact sub. If he signs then we have Bobby, Jota, Nunez, Diaz, Salah and him for front 3. It might block Elliott some game mins. If in AM then Carvalho might get less mins. But its going to be long season. Everyone will get game time IMO.

21 Jun 2022 16:19:51
Think he could be a very smart purchase myself, wouldn't cost way too much and has undoubted quality. Imo one of the main reasons for his stagnation is that he never played regularly at Madrid.

21 Jun 2022 16:25:58
He is on 140 000 € a week Zeddicus :)

21 Jun 2022 16:48:58
Really good article floating about from Lynch as to why LFC won't pay top wages to new incoming players unless they are Thiago level . He says we would have been in for Sancho fee wise but were only offering half as much wage as UTD.
He went for the money rather than the project. See how that's worked out for him thus far.
Ditton Tchouamenl, who is getting 300 a week from Real.
He does say at the end that Salah will be offered more then the top earner VVD, in a roundabout way.

21 Jun 2022 17:14:29
He could be the calculated gamble signing for this season, kinda like Shaqiri was, was signed knowing he had a couple of poor areas to his game but he still contributed to the titles we got.

21 Jun 2022 17:55:11
Ox out, Asensio in? I’d be happy with that scenario.

{Ed001's Note - why? Asensio is not very good, not sure how he ever got a move to Madrid.}

21 Jun 2022 18:02:08
Think he’d offer us something different going forward Ed, not saying he’s world class or anything like that but he’d be good option for us, would offer more than the Ox does now.

{Ed001's Note - I am not convinced he would. He would be a waste of a signing imo. Be better off sticking with what we have than bringing him in.}

21 Jun 2022 18:12:48
Another Klopp fancy, but likely a smokescreen. He is too flyweight for the EPL.
Naby is the one who needs a royal kick up the ass for his final season motivations, so its that type of player we should get in, only a player who shows up and is consistent and not made of crisps.

21 Jun 2022 16:22:17
Thanks Ed002. You are very sweet. He may be a cost effective and versatile addition. Doubt he will want big wages. More likely he will want to play more.

21 Jun 2022 17:20:07
Most of us on here really appreciate your info Ed002. Good to have you back :)
Thank you!

21 Jun 2022 19:06:00
Cheers Ed002?.

21 Jun 2022 20:46:42
Not a big Asensio fan. He’d only get slightly more than Minamino minutes because of the 5 subs. Would be on loan somewhere like Turkey within 18 months when we can’t find a buyer. Very surprised to see he got double figures in the league last season all the same.

21 Jun 2022 23:22:34
Could be a good signing or another Aqualina (spelling) Brilliant potential but never really settled.

22 Jun 2022 07:33:47
Was a fan when he was younger, has some bite in the tackle, but we can just have Firmino and others play the attacking midfield position until Elliot is ready. I know Ed won't like me saying this, but we might be better off with a year loan for Gini over signing Asensio, the fees outlay, the big wages he will demand.

Good info ed2.
