The Echo are now reporting that "Anfield sources [are] distancing the Reds from such speculation" and that "he's not a target and never has been".

Furthermore "Reds bosses believe such reports have materialised from sources close to the midfielder in an effort to promote the Portuguese and drum up potential interest should he leave Porto. "

Make of that what you will, but expect the Melwood lean soon then!

{Ed002's Note - Assuming you mean Otavio. The club met with his agent.}

Yes, thank you Ed002, I forget to mention his name!

Did the club meet with his agent recently (in the last few weeks)?

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

The Echo is obviously being taken for a ride. Octavio has been on our radar since last summer, as confirmed by Ed002 and a few other media sources. No denial from the club, ever.

And after talks have begun, suddenly there is a denial? Sounds very convenient, to me. Classic negotiation moves.

I read the stuff on Otavio, where the club has distanced themselves from any speculation. What does the club have to gain in doing so? Makes me wonder if the Echo is being willingly careless, putting out a story rooted in a bad source, for the sake of views.

Hi Ed, i read that Luka Sucic of Salzburg was also one of the list for LFC's summer target. Any views Ed?

Thank you and have a great day.

{Ed002's Note - Luka Sucic (CM) There has been growing interest in the youngster with RBS fending off interest from Arsenal and Juventus by making it clear he is not for sale. This has not stopped the interest of Lazio who see the youngster as a Sergej Milinkovic-Savic replacement. Newcastle have spoken with RBS about the player and will make a bid. Milan have a declared interest but a move seems unlikely. RBS have said a number of other sides have sent scouts to watch him and this will include Liverpool, considering him as an alternative to Bellingham. The player has said he would like to play in Germany.}

This midfield while high in numbers unfortunately lacks durability and breadth of quality.

When Thiago doesn't play the midfield lacks a lot and without Fabinho looks very vulnerable. The likelihood is that Thiago will miss a number of games, especially as he gets older. Hendo looked physically knackered at times and even Fabinho cannot do it every week. Milner is ok for the odd game and there are still huge questions marks over Naby"s fitness and 90 min performance level.
The likes of Jones and Elliott are great at driving forward but aren't defensive players. That's fine, let's not try and make them into something they are not. Let them do what they are good at.
In all of our options though we lack an athletic, pacy, young, strong defensive midfielder to sit along side and then cover Fabinho. That makes us very vulnerable in transition, runners from midfield and players in between the lines.

With this recruitment team I am sure they have their eye on someone this summer. The reliable journos said months ago the club believed Tchou would end up at Madrid and so I think their main target is someone else. I think they realise we cannot wait a season but are putting that message out there to play a bit of poker with the buying club at the moment and avoid us getting rinsed on the price. A little like they did re Alisson after the CL final in 2018. With that player in we will be a match for anyone this season!
