The independent saying that Trent is tempted by RM for 2025, and will see how this seasons goes.
Square Tom was saying its done, and we know Real want freebies rather than paying the going rate.
18 Jul 2024 18:18:17
If he won’t sign then he needs to be sold this year.
18 Jul 2024 19:22:47
I hope Trent Salah and VVD can put a bit of pressure on us to bring in reinforcements. If they want to win trophies then we need to bring in players so they can stay here and win them. Have to put yourself in their shoes and think why would they stay if we aren’t looking to win.
18 Jul 2024 19:46:37
I don’t know how many times this needs saying but you can’t sell a player against his wishes. If indeed he wants to see how this season goes and move to Madrid on a free then we should send him down to the u23s for the season so that he isn’t impeding Bradley’s development.
18 Jul 2024 20:03:51
You say that Shipley, but apparently Lille are said told Yoro he’d not be playing any first team football at all for the season if he refused United’s offer. So there are fairly coercive methods a club could use. The morality of it is questionable obviously.
{Ed025's Note - since when did football have any morals VV?..
18 Jul 2024 20:25:43
That would make the team weaker Shipley. “Cutting your nose off to spite your face” springs to mind.
If he chooses to go on a free there is nothing we can do. I’m not so sure he will tarnish his image with the club by doing that though, but it will be his choice.
18 Jul 2024 21:00:10
This is very true Ed.
18 Jul 2024 21:41:46
He will sign a new contract in my opinion.
18 Jul 2024 21:44:45
If he wants to leave, fair enough, but sign a new contract and make RM pay the going rate.
18 Jul 2024 18:02:19
Ed’s can this ploy that Real Madrid seem to be up to these days, making it aware they want players when their contract is up in years time, not called tapping up? And if it’s ok for them could other teams do it? Or is the prem more regulated than laliga.
{Ed002's Note - Plenty of eams do it.}
18 Jul 2024 22:07:09
Vango, by the same token that you can’t exactly force Trent to leave, we can’t make him sign the contract. We should get a straight answer, is he going to sign or not. If he’s not going to sign then his role in the side should gradually diminish and Bradley be first choice.
18 Jul 2024 22:45:58
If he won't sign, he goes this summer for me.
19 Jul 2024 00:13:26
If he doesn't want to leave, or if he doesn't want to sign the new contract, but wants to honor his current contract, then the club should not play him as much, or even demote him to u23?
All the years he have contributed, some even with trophies, those just go to drain yeah?
Bravo! Yeah that's how we should do!
19 Jul 2024 00:21:11
Yep sign or go. The club need to stop putting themselves in this position. Contract negotiations should start at 2 years remaining and if not sorted put them up for sale right then and there. I'd like to think Trent wouldn't leave us for nothing as Ed001 seems to think he's not that type but I don't know.
19 Jul 2024 00:32:31
I don't think he'd tarnish his image if he left for nothing, no point accepting a low figure if that's all that will be offered, let's not paint him out as a potential villain, if he leaves its because those above him didn't want to get us to a level to match Trents ambitions. They'd be the villains.
19 Jul 2024 02:01:05
Out of all the players that could do us dirty, I doubt that Trent will be one of them. Yes, any player would be tempted to be playing for RM, given their recent success and having the chance to play among great players. However, Trent is a Liverpool Boy. We haven't mistreated him and he has much to thank Liverpool for his current position. Unless Liverpool are looking to sell, I think he will be signing a new contract soon. I think we need to give Slot a chance. We've not seen the new look liverpool but so many people are already making such negative judgements. But I do feel that we need some quality signings to convince top players to stay. If everyone else is strengthening while we're not, then we could be in trouble.
19 Jul 2024 04:38:12
So I'm guessing all the people saying Trent should be sent to u23s if he doesn't sign will also be saying the same about Salah too then since he is also running down his contract?
It does not give a very good image to future players if after years of good service in which the team has won every trophy possible his thanks is demotion just because he'd like to try a new challenge. Terrible terrible managment.
To those saying why doesn't Trent sign so we can get money -
2 reasons
1 - if he signs a contract real won't be interested. They're interested because he's a free agent.
2. Why shouldn't Trent be entitled to negotiate a free transfer if he wishes. Players are not indentured servants. Apply that same logic to any other job and see how silly and illegal it sounds.
19 Jul 2024 06:19:16
Has he even been offered a contract to sign yet? Give it a few weeks for him to return from his holiday and see what happens then.
19 Jul 2024 07:55:10
People pointing towards the Liverpool connection, McManaman did the same all those years ago and Michael Owen (from Chester I know) but through the academy for years also did the same a year out. Unfortunately it’s part of the game, his contract shouldn’t have ever got to this mount when everyone knows he’s such a key component 2/ 3 years out it should’ve been extended.
{Ed001's Note - both of those 2 were Everton fans as kids and would wear Everton shirts while training with the academy. Trent was always a Liverpool fan.}
19 Jul 2024 08:16:52
Macca left on a free to Madrid but never said he would sign a new deal and that hurt, Owen kept hinting he would sign and then the didn’t forcing us to sell him cheap and that p#seed me off, hope this isn’t happening again, I might be wrong but that’s how I remember it.
19 Jul 2024 08:42:27
Players come and go, I get that and don’t resent any player wanting to move on. What I do resent though is a player who’s been handed a chance with a club to run their contract down and leave on a free. That in my eyes is poor form and they’re no more than a rat in my opinion. Loved mcmanaman but he’ll never be a great for me for how he left the club.
19 Jul 2024 10:04:06
Trent has also the option to pressure Liverpool into putting a kind of clause into a new contract that Liverpool has to negotiate with Real Madrid should they come knockin’ or even a limited transfer fee.
Liverpool left it late and are in a very bad negotiating position unfortunately.
19 Jul 2024 10:27:39
"Square Tom saying it's done"
What's done?
19 Jul 2024 11:08:31
Love how people form an opinion based on an assumption that this is being done or hasn’t been done lol.
19 Jul 2024 12:30:31
In regards to macca and owen leaving, we were in a very different place in the food chain back then and it was obvious we were nowhere near consistently competing for major honours. Not saying real madrid don't still have a bigger draw than us from the outside but its different circumstances.
19 Jul 2024 12:37:15
So if madrid tell players they are interested in them when their contract runs out why don't LFC make it clear to players of interest they are interested in them when their contracts run out we are a world renowned football club? That Bosman fella has caused football clubs a lot of trouble over the years with madrid the main winner out of the law change.
