Ed's, is there any particular reason around the hold up on the move for Goncalo Inacio, if he has been identified as our number one target in this area. I mean, CB has been identified clearly as an area of need and Inacio should be back in pre season with Sporting after his holiday ended.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - There is no hold up. Liverpool know what they must do.}

Sounds like everything is clear for a transfer as long as LFC meet the asking price.

30 Jul 2024 15:01:56
Ed002, Are we still just finalizing the lists? And, looks like there's internal back and forth going on, which points to indecisiveness at the top level.

{Ed002's Note - The club need to understand the intentions of a number of players and this will impact the decision process.}

30 Jul 2024 15:23:40
Yeah. If I remember rightly though, Ed said that he would be seen as a VVD replacement so a move would depend on what happens with his contract talks.

30 Jul 2024 15:24:05
So, is it a matter of meeting the €45m release clause?

Does anyone know if he's good enough to merit the price?

30 Jul 2024 15:35:46
fantodant, if he's viewed as a VVD successor then I would sure hope he's viewed as a deal at 45M, but who knows.

30 Jul 2024 15:43:31
Fantodant i think ? it’s a case of depending on of VVD stays or not.

30 Jul 2024 16:03:11
VVD Trent and Salah just need to give a yes or no on if they’re staying or not. It should have been sorted out months ago if not 1 or 2 years ago. We can extend contracts outside of transfer windows.

30 Jul 2024 17:07:29
I'm not sure that waiting on a yes/ no from 33 year old VVD should be a reason not to buy Inacio (who we seem to have been linked with for a while now) . Let's be honest about how long Virgil can play at the highest level. If our scouts think Inacio is good enough then we should get him in now before he goes elsewhere.

30 Jul 2024 17:42:07
I agree Johnnyr1970 but it’s been said he would be a replacement for Virgil so I’m assuming if Virgil stays then Inacio doesn’t arrive, unless I’ve misunderstood.

30 Jul 2024 15:50:11
Ed, do you know if VVD truly wants to stay or is he just being careful with what he says on the record?

Or maybe it's a matter of him wanting to stay if they meet his high salary request.

{Ed002's Note - I do t know if he has made demands but budgets have all be authorised and Michael Enanalo is doing the rounds.}

30 Jul 2024 18:06:57
The club will know if they are staying there no way contact has not been made . I read a couple of years back it’s different cultures. Where we are used to adding to team every season they FSG like to squeeze every last drop out of what’s already there. Maybe that’s why we have tended to hold onto players longer.

30 Jul 2024 18:07:57
Agreed Johnny, virg is well past his best. Get inacio in now and if virg doesn’t want to sign an extension sell him now. Getting to the stage where I’m thinking more of getting shut of virg salah and even Trent ( but hopefully Trent gets a new contract and he gets the captains armband to force him on) but if wants to run his contract down, banish him to the reserves. Not totally against salah staying but if an offer comes in over 50m, he’s gone for me. Virg is done for me…. it’s time to move on.

30 Jul 2024 18:33:02
I'm hoping my response was a lot kinder than Magico's haha.

I'm thinking that VVD may have one more goof season in him, maybe two if his game time gets managed but at 33 we can't look at him being first choice forever. A replacement is needed now really and they can share games for a season.

30 Jul 2024 21:04:06
We need a CB and at €45m it’s a relative steal regardless of whether VVD renews or leaves! If Virg leaves then we need 2 CBs surely…pure madness to be relying on Gomes as a CB because he is simply not good enough, and before people jump on our title winning season Virg could have played with an academy player and we still would have won! There’s a reason why Klopp in later years opted to play Gomes anywhere but CB hence Quansah getting so much game time.

All the respected journos who have contacts at the club are saying that there’s unlikely to be much business if any, that midfield is considered a non issue and that defence isn’t considered a priority. So I’m expecting nothing happening over the next month.

30 Jul 2024 21:36:12
Does that mean you’ll be taking a break from copy pasting the same things every day for the next month? ?.

31 Jul 2024 01:05:35
@Victor didn’t Slot say, the day before the Betis match, that he would be “surprised” if Liverpool don’t make any signings? It’s just possible that he might have a little bit more of an inkling than reporters and social forum members?

31 Jul 2024 04:39:49
WDW3 - what we don't have is a confirmed signing. then what we get is a bunch of posters who equate that to being the same as not even trying and therefore the club are stupid and don't care about winning.

31 Jul 2024 07:54:50
To be fair though @Faith, July and August are the months when the Transfer Department take their annual break to Skegness.

31 Jul 2024 09:30:13
Some people in the club are obviously not the brightest as arguably our 3 most important outfield players all have only one year left on their contracts. This is then impacting on bringing players in which we can’t make a final decision on.

31 Jul 2024 21:59:35
@Mark, spot on as ever. I’ve absolutely no doubt whatsoever that it really is as simple as you think / say it is.
