Hi Ed,

Has there been any more interest in tsimikas? And are the club looking at any LBs that you know of?

Seems strange no one has mentioned our need for a future robbo replacement. Tsimikas doesn't seem to be the one (imo) and although Robbo has been one of my favourite players over the klopp era his injuries last year highlighted the need for us to think to the future. Maybe Arme wants to give Tsimi a shot?

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Kostas Tsimikas (LB) Agent previously said he was being forced out of the club to raise €20M or more. Since then it has been quiet and I am not aware of any approaches. Liverpool may resist a sale due to the cost of replacement.}

I think if tsmikas got a steady run at lb he would be v good as on few occasions he has got run he has v well. Unfortunately for him he had robbo in front of him and couldn't get run at it. Tsmikas I think is type of player who needs games regularly and when he comes into team on a once off r if robbo gets injured he struggles badly. If he gets 4r5 games in row I think he be v good for any team.

If Gomez doesn’t leave do we need a replacement? Always felt safer with Joe there anyway, and if there’s an injury, use the youth.

Tsimikas is average for me, not a starter for a top 4 team.

Imho, Joe is a very good defender and, with hindsight, if he could have avoided a couple of the injuries he picked up just as his career was taking off I have no doubt that he and VVD would have been our stating CBs for the past 3 or 4 years.

Sadly, given what has actually happened with the injuries, I don’t think he will ever be a regular starter, which is a real shame for the lad. I think he is always going to be a valuable squad member (if that’s enough for him) as he covers all the back four spots and even DM at a push.

All that said, I think he isn’t the solution to any problems at LB on a regular basis - he can be relied upon to not let anyone down (when has he ever let us down) but I don’t think he has the ‘x’ factor at LB.

Hopefully one or both of Chambers and Beck have made an impression. At the moment Robbo has another (niggling) injury which seem to be happening more often and Tsimi is a wholehearted good lad who, again, never let's us down, but not the solution longterm for LB.

I would move on Gomez and Tsimi and sign a left back that can play the inverted fullback role more effectively, if that is what slot is going to use.

Both players are fine defenders, but neither suit the role too well.

I like Gomez but let's be honest his best position is Centre half.

Just because we like him we shouldn't be keeping him so he can be 3rd choice square peg in round hole left back or right back.

If we bought a new superstar striker fans would be saying to keep Nunez as Adrian's replacement as 3rd choice keeper because he's likeable.

Cost of a replacement backup surprises me. Beck and Chambers are here already and Gomez can play there. I don’t think we need to sign a LB until Robertson moves on next year on the year after.

Id rather have a young player/ new prospect signed that him lurking around on 60k a week.

I’d sooner buy a 1st choice LB to rotate with robbo, then slowly over the course of this season introduce beck or chambers into the squad slowly…. whoever gets the nod over those 2 i don’t know but, but maybe next season he rotates with the new LB bought this season. Can’t see robbo going for another 2 seasons. Love robbo and hope I’m wrong but personally think now is the time to look at a serious under study.

Given a run of games Tsimikas is a very good back up left back.

If there was a comp video of his best Liverpool moments people would suggest we buy him. He’s happy with his role and plays loads of games.

Klopps football seems to shorten careers. I agree re Robbo needing some real competition.

03 Aug 2024 01:58:34
Who are the players whose career Klopp shortened? Millie was about 78 when he left and is still playing for Brighton. Hendo, Fabs, Mo, Sadio, Bobby, VVD, Ali, Robbo are all 30+ as is Thiago who Blind Pete could see was cricked prior to joining us.

It’s only about 18 months since we were all saying get rid of the pensioners and this season, one of our nay sayers has dropped the bar even further, saying we shouldn’t be signing veritable old men who turn 28 this year.
