Any truth we are interested in Sportings Gyokeres? I know it's only one season in Portugal but his tally is very impressive with 43 goals and 15 assists in 50 appearances.
{Ed002's Note - Viktor Gyokeres (S) After only joining last summer Sporting have no interest in selling but fear a club could simply pay his €100M buy out clause in full and try to persuade him to move. Sporting fear Chelasea may do that and have avoided the subject during discussions over another player and a separate issue - and whilst Chelsea has a preferred option he is proving difficult to sign. He has attracted scouts representing Manchester United, Spurs and Arsenal with Arsenal seeing him as an option to Toney and can be seen as likely bidders - the issue will be if they are willing to pay the buy out clause in full and if they could nogotiate terms to avoid a single payment. They have been speaking with his agent. Spurs may offer a wildcard option but have a much preferred and more financially viable option they are actively progressing to effectively replace Kane which they failed to do last summer. Another wildcard would be Atletico Madrid. Sporting are looking to a new contract and an increase in his buy-out clause. Seemingly over his injury and just being eased back in to pre-season. I am not aware of any approach to Sporting by Liverpool.}

Tbh it’s a link that makes no sense as Nunes deserves a chance to be the spearhead of the attack, Slot has seemed to go for a mobile big lad up front and maybe he can get a tune out of Nunez.

Nunez so far-good against lesser teams, but generally goes missing when it really matters.
Can technique and consistency be entrained, i wonder.

How about focus on what he has and get the best out of that rather than the things he doesn’t, Vango. He could be a Drogba style menace with his pace and physicality.

God this is an old one from years ago resurfacing. He’s too slow and not good enough for a top tier premier league team going for the title.

How did he do at Coventry?

Nunez has had a year and a half - how long does he get to prove he is worth a spot in the team? If Jota could stay fit our best front three, imo, are Gakpo on the left Jota in the middle (for want of anybody better) and Salah on the right.

Nunez has a question mark against him for sure but what we can't question is that he's an absolute menace and causes defences lots of problems, can't question his desire and effort, can't question his tracking back if he loses the ball, can't questions the opportunites he gets himslef into, the question is his composure in front of goal, and I do wonder that he tries too hard because of his desire to do well and there fore snatches at stuff, like you say against big teams, in big games, etc If he can just get that composure with the 50% of his chances that he misses (IMO due to trying and wanting too hard which you can't fault) his goals return would be pretty impressive, its not too bad as it is to be fair to him if he can tweak that then I think we'll see a real high scoring goal scorer to go with the rest of him. (same with his off sides just a bit too eager to get ahead of his marker/ defencive line because of his desire) if slot and co can teach hims the ice cool compsure side of a good striker then I think he will be quality.

“If Jota could stay fit”
He can’t and doesn’t, so he shouldn’t be first choice as you can’t rely on an injury prone player, as Thiago, Ox, Matip, Keita have proven.

Funnily enough @Victor, that’s why I wrote ‘for want of anyone better’.
IF, dirty big IF, Jota could stay fit he would be my first choice striker from the current squad. However, as I’ve said two or three times on here recently, neither Jota or Nunez, is convincing as a centre forward for a PL and CL winning side.
If I was the coach of Liverpool FC which (unlike some people on here) I realise I’m not, I’d be focussing on a genuine goal scoring centre forward as a priority.
We scored a lot of goals last season but they were shared around a number of players. Whilst that is not a bad thing in itself I think a CF like Rushy, or God or prime Torres or Suarez that frighten the sh#t out of opposition defences is what we want.
Not only would they scores loads of goals themselves but they would make a lot more spaces (and chances) for others to build on last season’s goal tally - imho, that’s what will improve us and give us an even better chance for the PL and CL.

Nunez playing as a 9 running in behind from central positions or out wide to get on the end of chances will be an absolute pest this season, best believe. If he has space to attack and can play off instinct he is a devastating player. People suggesting we should replace him with gyokeres don’t know what they’re talking about, as an overall player Nunez is much more developed.

Hunkered is not the answer, I’m not saying he isn’t decent, but he is not what we need at the price.
I would however jump at the chance to take Alvarez from City for the reported £60-70m
That lad is quality.

I like Nunez and this will be his third season at the club. I really hope this is his breakout season when it comes to goals.
He seems to make the hard chances look easy and the easy ones sometimes comical.
I’m also a big fan of Jota and whilst I agree his injury issues are a real concern his finishing is pretty clinical but the best ability is availability.
Nunez despite being far more available than Jota has 3 more PL goals than him in the last 2 seasons but then Jota again the downside of Jota is he’s played half the league minutes Darwin has in that time.
So it backs up what most people are saying there.
