Hi Ed2 hope your are well. To confirm it sounds like we have quite a job to convince Zubimendi to join? What is it that he is looking for and in your opinion are we wasting our time (another caicedo)

{Ed002's Note - He needs convincing.}

Agree1 Disagree6

Have to stay optimistic on this one, eggs and basket and all that.

08 Aug 2024 16:53:24
Gut thoughts Ed?

{Ed002's Note - He may want to hang on a year for Barcelona interest. The club could offer to pay over the odds to allow payments to be spread out.}

08 Aug 2024 16:54:55
In terms of game time or playing style Ed? Can you see this getting done given your previous reservation about the player’s unwillingness to leave Spain or should we move on. It’s strange to me we would move for a player and leak it to the media without some sort of guarantee or commitment from the players side. Thanks for your time.

{Ed002's Note - He needs convincing about leaving Spain.}

08 Aug 2024 17:06:05
I think we’d move swiftly on to Ederson or Varela if we can’t.

08 Aug 2024 17:13:08
I can see others as alternatives - Kone, Freundup, even our existing players (as Slot himself said, we have a high bar) .

Zubimendi would be great, but if we can't convince him to come, then so be it, respect to the player who wants to stay in his home town (and/ or his home country) .

08 Aug 2024 17:18:07
Ah, I also forgot to add Varela and Ederson, thanks VV!

08 Aug 2024 17:18:44
I know you don’t like to say Ed but can you see us getting it done? Would we not have had some encouragement he would join before going public?

{Ed002's Note - it can be done if …. As I explained yesterday and today.}

08 Aug 2024 17:54:29
The other players mentioned all know now they are not first choice, not sure that would sit well with the likes of Ederson.

08 Aug 2024 18:26:32
Didn't seem to do Salah any harm, mark.

08 Aug 2024 18:28:14
I expect Ederson would still be happy to sign Mark. I think if we messed him about the way we messed Lavia about last summer it would be a different case.

08 Aug 2024 18:28:39
Mark, pretty sure that applies to the majority of transfers. Wasn't Salah about 5th choice for LFC? Endo wasn't first choice either etc. Not sure it really matters, the club likely have a list of multiple players for each position.

08 Aug 2024 17:52:46
Thanks for info Ed, I just hope if we can’t get it done then we move on quickly to another target. Worse case scenario would be we push and push and finish up with not enough time to look at others.

{Ed002's Note - There are other options but MZ is a great player.}

08 Aug 2024 18:52:56
I really hope that if we don’t get Zubimendi the club don't feed the journalists the usual line of “we couldn’t get our top target so they didn’t want to just sign anyone for the sake of it”. We badly need someone in the 6 position, and we’ve had loads of success signing players that weren’t initially our top choices. Salah and Mane come to mind.

08 Aug 2024 19:10:57
I’d never heard of him before the Euros and even then I don’t really remember him playing so he can’t have done much.

I’m sure he’s a very good player but if he doesn’t sign for Liverpool that’s fine. We already have enough in midfield to compete.

If he does sign I hope he improves on what we have.

I get the excitement it’s been a slow transfer window but transfers are not the be all end all.

08 Aug 2024 19:19:42
Sounds like we’ve messed it up to me ?.

08 Aug 2024 19:20:47
One question and that is why did LFC let their pet journos know we were interested in a player AND allow them to spill the beans to the public.
Something isn't right.

08 Aug 2024 19:37:46
If he signs I'll support him and the club, but personally I can't see this one happening. Needing convincing to leave his home town club and join another club is one thing, but convincing to leave your country is another all together. Personally, and I know this won't be popular but hey ho I'm saying it anyway, I think our midfield is over stocked and I'd rather give what we have an opportunity to show what they can do in a new system before we splash a load of cash on a player that 'needs convincing' to join.

08 Aug 2024 19:43:06
It's third hand info but I was told it's not the leaving spain that's the issue it's that he has been told Barcelona might come in if they can sell de jong.

I actually don't know how accurate that info is because like I said it's third hand info.

08 Aug 2024 20:35:22
Salah was a different case. He really wanted to come to the PL to prove people wrong. It has been said Ederson is also not an easy deal. I don’t fancy the rest.

08 Aug 2024 22:13:41
Is Arthur Melo still available?

08 Aug 2024 22:45:01
This sounds all to familiar from FSG. Club under pressure from the fans to make a signing, as with Caicedo they let it be known they have made a huge bid, knowing full well the player won’t come.

Sound familiar?

But it’s ok, they have a high bar, any incoming 6 has to be better than Endo and Zubimendi is the only 6 in World football who is better, so no point signing anyone if we can’t him.

09 Aug 2024 00:38:56
Nabi ‘s on a free.

09 Aug 2024 02:01:29
@Super Hans, you do know FSG have nothing to do with transfers don’t you?

@LiverpoolFC8. - in what way have Liverpool ‘messed it up’? Genuine question.

09 Aug 2024 22:50:58
@ West Derby Wanderer3

You do know FSG set the transfer budgets don’t you. I’d say that was a massive influence on transfers.

{Ed001's Note - no they don't. This FSG hate is embarrassing and based purely on pig ignorance.}

10 Aug 2024 11:20:40
@Ed sorry? The owners of the club don’t set spending budgets? Really?

And I don’t see how stating the fact the owners set spending budgets equates to pig ignorance.

{Ed001's Note - they don't. Just stating they do when you haven't a clue shows you are pig ignorant. You have no idea what you are talking about but you are going to shout your mouth off anyway. It is embarrassing. Maybe you should actually shut up until you actually know something.}

Klopp repeatedly said it was FSG who set transfer budgets.

JWH says as much here too. It’s farcical to suggest anything else.

“Investment in the club is never for the short term, ” owner John W. Henry told the Liverpool Echo this week.
“This approach has been successful over the long haul with patience necessary from time to time.

“We’ve seen many football clubs go down unsustainable paths.

“We have and will continue to focus our attention on investing wisely in the transfer market and we remain incredibly proud of our squad. ”

Swiss Ramble reports that for the financial year 2021-22, the Reds managed a £7 million profit, something unusual for football clubs.

{Ed001's Note - Klopp said lots of things. The club sets its own budgets based on income received. Which is exactly what Henry was talking about by the club being sustainable. FSG loans money from time to time, for things such as stadium upgrades and other infrastructure projects but they mostly leave the club to run itself within its income.

Not sure what Swiss Ramble has to do with anything, other than to show you lack understanding. You think FSG spend every summer poring over the accounts to set a budget for the club to spend? If so I fear for you, as it is clear you live a life completely divorced from reality.}
