First off, I’d like to thank each Ed for their knowledge and insight during the window. In a business where Liverpool tend to move quietly, it was helpful to get some info on here ?
Just wondering - if possible, could you let us know who we were trying to sign last night before.
{Ed002's Note - Liverpool opted not to pay the Buy Out clause for Varela.}

Do you think that the club will continue to monitor him in the next months or they deem him not good enough for that kind of money?
{Ed002's Note - I really do t know.}

Edwards loves window shopping.

They aren’t going to pay that the cheap skates, they wouldn’t back klopp fully and they definitely won’t back slot…. we will soon have to live with top 10 is good enough. Maybe the drop off won’t be so well clear this season, think we’ll make 3rd or 4th but wait till we lose salah virg and Trent. Same old same old standing still and not looking ahead. Oh isn’t Mac on teals list for 2025 also.

Hi ed002,
Why did we opt not to pay the buy put clause? PSR? I thought it would have been within our reach, surley
Cheers
Drogie.
{Ed002's Note - I imagine Liverpool did not see the value.}

Liverpool didn’t pay for Varella because they like to shop in Harrods but want to pay Primark prices.
These owners and those employed by FSG are purely business, balance the books, protect their investment and increase the value of the club for their future payday. Let’s not get it twisted these are not football lovers who want success they are investors who purchased a distressed asset and want a return on investment! Success on the pitch is incidental to them, they are more than happy for us to float in top 4 and collect the handsome rewards rather than take a gamble and invest funds to try unseat City at the top of the table, the risk is just not worth it given the very small difference between runner up money and league winners- what would it cost us to compete at the very top? Probably a 100+ million and what will they get back in return, probably 10/ 15 million…if the maths don’t add up it just ain’t happening under FSG.

These posts get more embarrassing by the day - clueless telly clappers.

Which part isn't true Drogie?
31 Aug 2024 20:04:26
What is it about football transfers that can make people lose their marbles?
Some pointy head somewhere should do a psych report on it.
Maybe it could be bottled and used?

Dow-ney part, it’s not difficult Endo 3,
31 Aug 2024 22:06:01
The failure to pay Varella's buy out clause may or may not come back to haunt the club. What intrigues me is why go through all the analysis and conversations if ultimately you aren't going to pay the price you knew on day 1. Surely it just wasting everyone's time.
31 Aug 2024 22:42:31
Clemence, when you go to buy a car do you try to haggle? How about a house?
Footballers are assets too and not trying to negotiate is not very good business.
31 Aug 2024 23:40:26
@Magico, I think it may have been mentioned once or twice on here that FSG have nothing to do with transfers or transfer budget.
@Drogie, it’s possible - even quite likely - that Liverpool had / have the funds to pay Varela’s buy out clause but the didn’t because it wasn’t worth it - he wasn’t ’the right player at the right price’.
31 Aug 2024 23:44:09
Clueless that’s hilarious Drogie, your the one who asked if we didn’t buy Varella because of PSR… maybe Google what PSR is before you try call people out with your playground insults!

Dow-ney
Oh I understand what it means this is my issue and I quote your text below
Spurting absolute nonsense about the owners, when you have no idea why the club didn’t buy Varela. Funny, didn’t see you piping up last window. The club is self sustainable and maybe you should look up the meaning of this before writing your nonsense
“These owners and those employed by FSG are purely business, balance the books, protect their investment and increase the value of the club for their future payday. Ok thanks Ed002
Are you still in Cornwall? Iove a pint of Tribute
My aunty has a place in Dartmouth and we were there for a week a few weeks ago. Interestingly, JW Henry’s Yacht was in the harbour along with Joe Lewis of Spurs, literally one behind the other for two weeks…
Just wondering, were you aboard either ed002?
Cheers
Drogie.
{Ed002's Note - I have a home in Cornwall. I was not aboard either.}

Maybe ultimately they didn't think there was value in paying the full buyout clause? Maybe they tried to negotiate and spread the payment out or have a different package with addons and it didn't work? Varela is a good player but he's only been in Europe for a year playing in the Portuguese league, maybe they decided to wait and see how he gets along and stick to the options that we have now? If Varela wasn't up to snuff you'd be beating the transfer team with a stick saying that they buy poorly and that they should have just played Morton, you just can't win with some people.
Sad that the only way that the club can show they want to win the title is by splurging large amounts of cash on players that most fans have never seen play.

After watching us walk through many, I’m pretty happy that we have a functioning team, no matter the price.
02 Sep 2024 09:09:20
If we’re going to debate the upsides/ downsides of a ‘pay any price’ approach, think it’s worth looking at Chelsea and how overspending on players is no guarantee for success. Yes they may gel and be competitive in time, but the grass isn’t always greener.
It’s also staggering this is still a discussion point rather than how well Gravenberch played at CDM yesterday. He has yet to be tested in the big games, but he’s showing signs of adapting very well to the position.
02 Sep 2024 09:24:10
I’m a massive fan of how the recruitment team work, not being held to ransom, looking for best value for money and seemingly only recruiting players that look absolutely delighted to come and play for Liverpool, I can wait to Fede play he certainly looks like a player with a point to prove, if he can recreate the form from 2020 we’ve got a great player on our hands, also if we’d paid 60 million for ryan and his last name was gravinho everyone would be saying we’ve now got that position nailed for the next ten years based on preseason and his first 3 games I think he’s been phenomenal.
02 Sep 2024 12:40:39
Drogie, maybe joe lewis and Henry were sharing some investment tips.
