Hi Ed,
Just saw Rabiot agreed a 2 year deal with Marseille. Any insight into this deal? Would be very surprised if they had the ability to offer a better financial package than us or some of the other clubs that were in for him but assuming they would have done?
{Ed002's Note - Adrian Rabiot (CM/DM) Juventus are looking to replace their midfield misfits. They are looking to sell and move off the wage bill players they no longer want in order to fund replacements they have already identified. As a free agent, Rabiot will, like every other player, be offered to Newcastle. A third party has been instructed to find him a new home and whilst he could have been used in part exchanges previously he has let his contract run down and has left as a Free Agent this summer. Liverpool offer an unlikely, at least to me, solution but they have declared an interest and know what the financial implications are - but they have made an offer seen by the player as too low. The player wants to move to Manchester United but their interest has been waning as they look to others and would at the very least require him to lower his wage demands. Milan offered another option. Arsenal, Atletico and Real Madrid offer unlikely wildcard options. Turkey could provide a solution but the player has no interest. Pablo Longoria and Medhi Benatia were approached by someone close to Rabiot to consider taking the player and their project to the player and his mother. There were discussions on Saturday at the game against Nice and agreement reached yesterday subject to a medical which is due later today.}

That’s a relief that he’s going to Marseille. Midfield misfit just about sums him up nicely.

Me too @KC. Always seem strange to me that some people take a natural dislike to players who, allegedly, ask for high wages. I assume most of these people work for free.

I also found it odd from the reverse angle that people were seemingly happy to have him onboard regardless, despite seeming to know very little about him.
Rabiot has fallen out with more than one manager, he’s a controversial figure IMO, also has said before that he doesn’t like to play DM, which is what we need, and had plenty of fans opposed to him at Juventus.
Good luck to him, but I really don’t see why signing him would have made any sense.

Olympique de Marseille have put together a decent squad, the players below may not set the EPL alight but they should do well in Ligue 1 and remember they have De Zerbi managing them

West Derby that’s not at all my reason for disliking the player. He’s a bit of knob by all accounts and that’s putting it mildly, and if there is a “no dickheads” rule in signing players it would make no sense signing someone who is a well known dickhead and has a known dickhead for an agent, then there is his cognitive dissonance between his opinion of his talent and his actual ability, he seems to think he’s the second coming of Zidane when he’s more like a regeneration of Salif Diao. He’s a very very mediocre footballer at best and he’s asking for the thick end of £300k for that privilege. Then there’s the question of whether he actually improves our squad. And he doesn’t, not one iota. I consider this a bullet dodged.
