Eds, do you see in doing anything in the January transfer market and if so who and what positions?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool still need to address the matters the flip-flopping by Hughes failed to address in the summer - but January is never the best time to buy. So a Centre Back and a DEfensive Midfield player will be top of the list. The club should by then understand the plans of van Dijk, Salah and Alexander Arnold by then and will need to start working seriously on adding replacements if there is n one already at the club who can step up. Perhaps Bradley will be an option?}

Flipperty flopperty.

Hughes is definitely under a bit of pressure. 3x contract sagas and 2x positions we have been trying to appropriately fill for over two years. He's been lucky that Arne has settled in so well.

03 Nov 2024 14:22:16
Just lucky landing the job. His signings so far haven’t made sense.

03 Nov 2024 15:08:01
Where does Ed002 expect this new DM to play and does he replace the best DM in the Premier League currently?

03 Nov 2024 15:09:20
Its been what 2+ months post transfer window and none of the three have extended. He's (hughes) been a massive mistake so far.

03 Nov 2024 16:22:24
I think hughes needs replacing before any of the squad.

03 Nov 2024 17:22:38
Imagine what pressure Hughes would be under if we weren't top of the league.

03 Nov 2024 17:35:03
Scraping the bottom of the barrel with Hughes. A really bad move from the club. I do worry with him being in charge of transfer negotiations, as from the outside he doesn’t exactly seem very good at it.

03 Nov 2024 18:46:43
R is hughes working under instructions from his superiors to cut the wage bill?

03 Nov 2024 19:27:40
@Kaiser. I think he would replace Macca who Ed had eluded to last season being on a list of options for Madrid. the way he has played so far this season he could well be out in the summer.

Who would be realistic options for us in midfield Ed? Is Bruno Guimaraes an option?

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - For now Real Madrid have moved on.}

03 Nov 2024 21:39:03
Defo not convinced by Hughes, not for anything he's done but more by what he hasn't and hasn't yet. Not making signings I can understand but the contracts is ridiculous plus reports that he is looking at Semenyo and Mbeumo from Bournemouth. Not convinced by either being honest.

03 Nov 2024 23:11:54
Hughes is on a hiding to nothing following Jurgen-Jurgen could pull almost any player in, however, he will be doing Edwards bidding, ans the club will sell itself for the most part so let's give the man a chance.

04 Nov 2024 03:00:22
Who, in peoples’ opinion should we replace Hughes with and why would you think the replacement would want to come to Liverpool? Not trick questions by the way.

04 Nov 2024 07:41:15
I don’t think Hughes will be getting replaced but why wouldn’t a potential replacement want to come?

You could make a very strong case for Liverpool being the most attractive destination in Europe outside of Madrid. It’s also not exactly going great at Madrid either. We have to make Liverpool as attractive as possible and Slott seems to be doing just that at the moment.

04 Nov 2024 08:27:07
Is Hughes the new whipping boy now?

04 Nov 2024 09:36:33
Team is playing well. Szobo has had his turn, not many other players to bag on I guess.

04 Nov 2024 06:57:52
Ed002
Was it not Edwards who wanted Hughes?

Another mistake brining him back -, imo

Cheers
Drogie.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, he was recruited by Edwards.}

04 Nov 2024 10:59:55
He just needs to pull his finger out, that is all.

04 Nov 2024 11:24:12
2009, 2014, 2019, 2021.

4 times we were top at Christmas and didn’t strengthen in January which led to not getting over the line. Can’t do the same when the window opens again.

04 Nov 2024 11:41:49
Can't blame Hughes for the VVD Salah n Trent not signing new deals . that should have been sorted, one way or another long before he got the job. that's down to the previous regime.

scouse John has it right.

Chiesa and Mamardsshvilli.

Chiesa is not suitable for the premier league and we didn’t need another keeper - certainly not a priority.

So I agree with SJ - doesn’t make sense.

04 Nov 2024 14:20:38
Cant be signing players from the likes of Brentford and Bournemouth, we tried that before signing blokes from Southampton, Hull and a terrible Newcastle and look how that turned out. We should only sign players from Real, Barca and Bayern.

04 Nov 2024 20:07:13
Perhaps our first signing could be Edu? No longer working for Arsenal, I see.

04 Nov 2024 21:29:25
I hope that was tongue in cheek Florian? (Can’t always tell on here! )

If so, spot on!

Mane, VVD and Robertson were phenomenal buys from lower prem teams.

04 Nov 2024 23:07:47
Love it Florian! Trying to think who we signed from Newcastle, Jose Enrique? Andy Carroll?

05 Nov 2024 00:17:36
We signed Wijnaldum from Newcastle.

05 Nov 2024 12:19:37
Very harsh on Hughes the contract issues were long before he was appointed and should have been dealt with! Slot openly stated he wanted to see the squad and was in no rush to buy and he almost had Zubimendi wrapped up only for the player to do a u-turn!
Look at Kerkez at Bournemouth a player we should be looking at and Semenyo cracking talents he's bought in that will go on to a higher level club. Give the man a chance!

05 Nov 2024 13:13:39
I can’t believe some of the views on here. If I didn’t live in the real world and actually go to the games and watch us play - if all my information on Liverpool was gleaned from the opinions on here - I’d think we were in a relegation battle and not on the best run of any new manager in the history of the club.

Lads, touch grass. Everything’s okay.

Remember, according to this site Salah left every single year.

05 Nov 2024 15:52:19
Those saying another top GK was not required. To get one that looks a very decent level, a lot of high end 1st team football in his pocket at his age. For £35 mil is good business. Looking again at another season of lengthy injury to Alison.

05 Nov 2024 18:13:35
Well as Kelleher has been looking for a transfer away for a couple of season's I think another top GK was needed. I know Jaros is looking decent, but if Kelleher leaves at the end of season and we hadn't got anybody, people would be panicking and ripping Hughes another new one.

Also I would prefer to give Richard Hughes a bit more of a chance to prove himself. I am sure if he was doing that bad a job, someone higher up would be stepping in. He can't exactly be blamed for Zubimendi, a player decided he wanted to stay at his current club. We didn't mind when Stevie G looked set to join Chelsea and ended up staying.

As people have said contracts should have been sorted a while ago, but I do wonder if they want to see how VVD was after his bad injury or as has been rumoured Salah's relationship with Klopp was getting worse they didn't want to offer him a longer contract at the time. Plus with a new manager coming in, Slot may not have wanted VVD, Trent or Salah to stay.

Plus saying Chiesa is not suited to the PL when he has barely had a chance to prove himself, is a bit much. I may be wrong, but I would prefer to give a player a chance, as Slot has said, he didn't get a proper pre-season and coming to a different, more intense league it's going to take time to get used to.

I maybe a rose tinted supporter, but I am happy to be that. :)

05 Nov 2024 22:21:22
Would you look at that.
15 games
1 draw
1 loss

Stupid Hughes.

06 Nov 2024 21:44:44
Those pointing out about the keeper need
to bear in mind he’s gone straight on loan, so if an injury crisis occurs he won’t be available.
