With the move to Adidas kits next year, does that ever have a bearing on which agents push, what deals are to be had, or even if players are signed to placate the shirt sponsor with regards to image rights? I'm thinking of Trent's boot deal here with some small hope.

{Ed001's Note - it can make a difference sometimes. At the lower end and at the very top end, but rarely in between as the finances are not enough to make a difference. At the lower end, because a small amount can make a difference, a tiny bit of money from a kit manufacturer can be enough to make it worthwhile. Ie I know of a player who chose a club because it would include a boot deal in the lower leagues.

At the very top end, Nike, adidas etc will look to get their top players to the clubs they make kits for.}

I’m curious but why is the deal so much less per year compared to United? It’s reported at being 60mil a year sterling, yet United’s is 90mil a year. Why such a huge difference? Are we really so far behind commercially?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know, it seems very strange considering the number of kits we have been selling in recent years.}

I tried researching it a bit, suggestions are United’s deal is the total they can get in best case scenarios (winning trophies/ qualifying for CL/ etc), but even then it still feels like we’ve been lowballed given our recent successes, and our recent commercial strength. I don’t really get it to be honest.

Wouldn't it be great if it got played later in the season and we had carried on playing well topping the table and we could win the league at their place. bragging rights for ever.

Uniteds deal is going to drop by £10/ 15m due to missing out on champions league.

I believe the new Liverpool deal will be nearer the £90m mark.

Man Utd supporters buy more shirts as they keep burning their current ones every week after games.

The new Liverpool deal has been widely reported as 60mil, and there is nothing to suggest it will be higher. I hope you are right southern, but nothing suggests that’s the case right now.

Our previous deal was a much smaller flat fee with a larger than usual % of sales. It was a very unusual deal because normally clubs make next to nothing on kit sales.

The new deal with Adidas drops to the usual % of kit sales but has a much higher base fee than the nike deal. According to club accounts we didn't actually do that well on the Nike deal. Brought in far less money than was expected. My guess is that's why they reverted back to the usual licensing agreement.

Maybe if they drop the price of the kits, they might sell more! Ridiculous how much it is for a kit for my 10 year old…. no wonder so many fake kits around!

I remember a story some years ago when Messi apparently wanted out of Barca.

Adidas were keen to get him to Chelsea or PSG and were reportedly going to pay the transfer fee based on kit sales.

Summink like that, anyhow.

The difference could just be the legacy of Liverpool owners / front office people sitting on their hands in the 90s.
