Hearing trent has informed the club he wants to join Madrid, I personally think he is very replaceable and him leaving is no big thing, if it is the case he has told the club he wants to leave I would rather play Bradley or get a replacement and bed them in. The club is eternally bigger than any player.

Agree31 Disagree0

28 Dec 2024 04:59:19
There’s a league title to be won, you play your best players.

28 Dec 2024 07:14:38
Win the league, let him go. Shame he is leaving and doubly ashame he will go for free but a RB will always be replaceable.

We will need to change the way we play and add more creativity though as we will lose a lot.

Nevertheless if you told me this year we can win the league but lose Trent, Virgil and Salah I would have taken it and still would.

28 Dec 2024 08:33:11
If his “asks” for a new contract are beyond what the club are willing to offer then it is what it is

Don’t forget, he’s the best right back in the world (Jurgen told us do) and has won everything there is to win with us.

Onto pastures new for him

Just gutting we don’t get a fee for him.

28 Dec 2024 08:47:48
Wish they would announce what’s happening, doing my head in this waiting.

28 Dec 2024 08:51:17
Shame never going to be in the legend bracket like gerrard or carra. Put it like this if it was spanish lad and from madrid and was r. b for them i would doubt we could turn his head and if we could you would question their mentality. All your going to hear from him is i've achieved everything here and want a new adventure. No lad this is Lfc it means more than that and you want to play for madrid, that's how much it means. Get a replacement now and bench him put him in the stiffs.

28 Dec 2024 08:56:08
What are people's thoughts on Sugawara as a potential replacement for TAA? People talk about Frimpong but it doesn't seem prudent to spend that amount of money on a right-back if we are to give Bradley a genuine chance. Sugawara should be reasonably priced as Southampton are going down and Slot has worked with him before at AZ.

28 Dec 2024 09:10:12
I mean the poster is repeating what Marca has said who have never been very reliable as with most Spanish media fed by Madrid PR. Obviously this is all too put a wrench in our chains so to speak as well.

28 Dec 2024 09:29:26
Not sure on others thoughts but I don’t think Carra is in the Liverpool legend status.

{Ed025's Note - the spitting incident disbarred him from any status at all JK..

28 Dec 2024 09:36:32
I agree 1000% JK23.

28 Dec 2024 09:39:03
Carra is a legend . Won the champions league with us and is a local fella who wore his heart on his sleeve always put 110% . Played with cramp in that final . Yeah the spitting incident wasn’t nice but it does not take away what he done for us as a club and fanbase . Definitely not the best centre half but I would say he is a legend.

{Ed025's Note - i would say spitgate proved he was more a bell end than legend, but each to their own i suppose mate..

28 Dec 2024 10:02:47
I would say carra definitely a legend, committed his full career to us and always gave 100%. 2nd highest on appearances for club as well I think. Spitting incident was a very bad thing to do which he has acknowledged, but I don't think a split second decision in heat of the moment should ruin his legacy.

{Ed025's Note - thats where we differ Digger, im not a very contrite person mate, just like i believe the likes of Myra Hindley should have been hanged by the neck in the town square rather than be allowed to take a law degree in the hotel they called a prison, i suppose not everybody thinks like me but i can live with that..

28 Dec 2024 10:03:01
If it’s true that we only really began the negotiations in October, then that’s shameful to leave it so late. As for Trent himself, if he’s decided to cut and run, that’s him done in a Liverpool shirt, I’d never want to see him play in a Liverpool shirt again or be employed by the club in any capacity, it amounts to sticking two fingers up at the fans here. He’d be as bad as Owen or Macmanaman. I’m also of the view that if he’s told the club this, then his role needs to be diminished, so when Konate is back it’s between Gomez and Bradley for starter. Trent gets the bench and the stiffs.

28 Dec 2024 10:08:02
Trent's overall defending, forward runs, free kicks, and even general crossing to an extent is replaceable yes, what we will miss though are the switches in open play that open up a lot of room for Gakpo or Diaz to work with. It's a huge part of our game to spread the play quickly in recent months and I do think we will miss that. I can't think of another FB in world football that can ping a pass like he can. I imagine Slot will need to tweak the system to suit.

28 Dec 2024 10:20:11
Look at how teams defend against us when Trent is on the field, they’re scared to death he’s going to find a runner in behind so they don’t push up to us, his presence has such a massive effect on the game even before he even touches the ball, he will be a massive massive massive miss if he does leave, which I dearly hope is not the case.

28 Dec 2024 10:21:23
Anyone who thinks 'LFC have left the renewal too late and are incompetent' need to read the Joyce article from yesterday.
If Trent leaves it because he wants to, not because of bad business practices.
If there is one thing you can't accuse FSG of, it is bad busines practices (other than buying Andy Carroll, but I hold Kenny responsible for that donkey move) .

{Ed025's Note - he may leave because he wants to Vango but thats not the issue mate, the fact that you will get nothing for him certainly is, which by any degree is incompetence of the highest order..

28 Dec 2024 10:28:07
Trent is a great player but out of the 3 players who are out of contract he is defenitely the easier to replace. Trent has unique talents and range of passing but it comes at a price and a lot of times that is his defending. For me it’s clear Bradley is not ready and we go all out for Frimpong!

28 Dec 2024 10:24:54
Your more than entitled to your opinion ed25 and I certainly wouldn't argue with your mira hindlay analysis!
I played football with a guy who once spat at an opposition player, he always regretted it. He was excellent player and always targeted by opposition for heavy treatment, I can nevermind him reacted in anyway before but this day he did.
Same guy is a very quiet, well mannered fella but whatever was going on that day with him he flipped. U just never know what going on with somebody personal life on a particular day and somebody says r does the wrong thing to them.

{Ed025's Note - everybody makes mistakes Digger but i feel you should always be responsible for your actions mate, should someone capable of such a vile act be rewarded with a bumper Sky contract?, if you are in the public domain you have a certain responsibility imo and if you fall short of that then there should be a price to pay, the same could be said of that scum bag Gino D,Acampo who was a burglar that broke into Paul Young,s house and stole his guitars and even video,s of his late wife yet is a "celebrity" on prime time television, maybe im a dinosaur but thats just me..

28 Dec 2024 10:38:18
If Trent goes on a free he’ll sour his legacy as a Liverpool legacy and from my view will be held in the same regard as Owen.

28 Dec 2024 11:04:02
Dhfc and Digger, cheers for the replies gents.

If Carra is in your legend categories then who am I to argue.

I thought Carra was very very good for us but Legend for me is reserved for the best of the best.

Good to hear your thoughts though ?.

28 Dec 2024 11:57:57
January is going to be horrible isn’t it?

In what world is Jaime Carragher a legend, either as a footballer or as a human being?

28 Dec 2024 11:59:00
Carra totally dropped off the chart in my opinion with the spitting. Totally agree.

28 Dec 2024 12:00:47
I saw the article Vango (thanks to 12ft. io), I saw nothing that persuades me from my view that the optics of leaving beginning negotiations of extending the contracts of three important players to within the last 12 months of their contract is poor decision making and poor management from the owners in not dealing with it sooner.

28 Dec 2024 11:41:30
Wouldn’t if Ed025 would say that if Carra had stayed at Everton. Let’s face it, if he did stay at Everton he’d be your best player ever.

{Ed025's Note - he would still be a scum bag though WOW, and would never be in the top 10,000 of Everton players mate..

28 Dec 2024 11:44:15
On a lighter note ed25 what about the blues, going well recently? 3 v good results against the top teams, only downside is draws don't do much for any team position wise in league, at same time can't argue 3 excellent results.

{Ed025's Note - 3 good draws Digger but it only equates to 1 win when all is said and done mate, and we have thrown away a lot of points against the lesser sides sadly..

28 Dec 2024 12:52:03
Spanish newspaper says it so, so it must be gospel.

British journalist (NJ) with links to the club, says his preferred option is to stay at the club. Must be lies.

As for Carra, over 700 appearances and won everything apart from the big one. Yeah some rat behaviour off the field just like Gerrard, who you all lord over. So yeah club legend for me.

{Ed025's Note - cart horse who punched above his weight for me..

28 Dec 2024 13:02:32
He definitely looks and acts like one Ed25 hahau.

28 Dec 2024 13:12:19
With regards to carra being a legend i would base my hypothesis on his one club loyalty and not neccessarily his ability on the ball Gerrard is an exception though on the ball all he has on carra is england caps if you want to say he's more a legend what stat makes him more a legend? The one where he nearly signed for Chelsea Or when he left for Dollars? Any argument can be shot down.

28 Dec 2024 13:42:36
Carragher looked good from time to time because of the players around him. In my time watching and being a fan I would honestly struggle to make it into the top 250. On his best day he was above average.

28 Dec 2024 13:25:39
Everton fans think Ferguson is a legend despite being a jail bird. In fact Everton signed a convicted criminal. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

{Ed025's Note - im certainly not a fan of his Endo, but in the end hes not in the public eye making his fortune as a "celebrity"mate...thats the difference..

28 Dec 2024 15:07:34
The thing I hate most about celebrity culture is that it almost rewards bad behaviour as the media love a scandal and a comeback story after it. Look at Logan Paul youtuber. The disgusting things he did in Japan were the best thing that happened to his career. Most people over the age of 14 had never heard of him before he made the news and, after a couple of months of heat, he had more exposure and opportunities than ever before.

{Ed025's Note - you are right BR, its scandalous mate..

28 Dec 2024 15:28:17
I always wondered why carra was not shoehorned starter for End during internationals as he was always available and sureshot starter here.

But reality dawned on me when I took out the LFC tinted glass.

He was very average at best and hence was never picked b4 JT.

In fact successive managers kept ignoring him for Eng which says a lot about his quality.

28 Dec 2024 15:26:55
@Ed25, not sure I agree with the point you made earlier about TAA. He has a contract of finite length. If he does wish to leave and decides to see his current contract out then there’s nothing the club can really do. Perhaps they could have offered him a ‘Chelsea style’ 25 year contract for his last contract but I’m fairly certain he’d have said no.

If he does want to stay then it becomes an issue if what TAA wants against what the club think is an acceptable offer, mindful of the implications to the e siting wage structure within the club. If TAA is adamant about what he wants then it becomes a specific decision on the clubs part about a (possible) wage restructure against the loss of a transfer fee and that would be a conscious business decision. Either way, I’m not sure that the club is being incompetent.

{Ed025's Note - now im no expert on how contracts work WDW thats for sure, but logically i would think that with 2 years to go on any players contract an offer to renew or re negotiate should be made, if that offer is not taken up within say 6 months then the player should be automatically put on the transfer list, at least if an offer is made from a prospective club then the recompense is the transfer fee gained and used to procure a replacement, if he does sign a new contact then all well and good, now i might be being a bit Steve Naive of course but it seems a tragedy that someone of his ability who the club has invested a lot of time and money on can just walk out the door leaving the parent club with a massive hole that will cost in the region of £100M or so to fill, as i say just my take on things mate..

28 Dec 2024 15:50:34
Name one Everton player better than Carra?

Daft revisionism. He’s a far superior player to anyone who has played for Everton. He’s won a two major European trophies. Maybe Alan Ball was the last player who could compete, or Ratcliffe. That’s it.

{Ed025's Note - have you ever watched a game of football?, Carra was a below average exceedingly slow centre back who had a decent career on the back of being a local lad who had some good players around him, its hard for me to name any Everton player who was worse than him actually, Labone, Lyons, Watson piss all over him and i would go as far as to say Michael Keane would be above him, i will send you a postage stamp so you can write down all you know about football..

28 Dec 2024 16:08:37
Have you watched a game Ed? Basing his entire career on a post career incident which was him being harassed by a member of the public. Should he have retaliated, no. But speak to a local down the pub and you put it into perspective that someone was shouting abuse at him on the road I’d have filled him in.

As for a football, greatest ever player? No. But played his heart out and punched above his weight for over a decade and was always a solid 7/ 10. Ed stick to controlling this pop up laden dump with that crap you’re spouting.

{Ed025's Note - you have been watching with red tinted glasses on FK, he was pretty average for me but im obviously not an expert like you, spitting at a young girl will define him for me..a total and utter scum bag..

28 Dec 2024 16:18:35
Your "HEARING" meaning you read an article from marca hailstones that trent has decided to join madrid. Marca ??, while the day before chis Boscombe reported liverpool are very calm over the situation and believe the player still wants to stay and sign a new deal. I know which one I'd be more inclined to go with and it's certainly not that Spanish equivalent of the Daily mail. So if you hear any more from. the Spanish twats take it with a pinch of salt .

28 Dec 2024 16:35:48
Yes port red I am HEARING not this is 100 PERCENT GOSPEL. I am totally relaxed about the situation I feel trent is replaceable . If he wants to leave he owes it to the club and fans to grow a pair of swollocks and lay his cards on the table . Everyone though when klopp left we would fall down ( I never! ) and no one is even talking about klopp, same with trent you want to leave then go and we will move on.

28 Dec 2024 17:11:50
@Why0why, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are a youngster. Do a search on Kevin Ratcliffe. He was a tad better defender than Carragher.

28 Dec 2024 17:16:04
You mean someone reads articles from the web to you ?

{Ed001's Note - it is all coming from Madrid's mouthpiece, Marca.}

28 Dec 2024 18:01:25
Just my opinion on the two topics here but for what it's worth

1. At the end of the day, i cannot believe that Trent will leave. I believe he is tempted, but I just don't believe he will leave
2. Carra was a bang average player. If he wasn't a local lad, he would not be in the Liverpool legend discussion.

28 Dec 2024 18:53:07
For me if Trent is going to go, I’d potentially rather he forced a move in Jan so we get some money for him at least. Otherwise my fear would be as we get to the tail end of the season he takes less risks etc as his heart lays elsewhere and won’t want an injury. In fact if I was him, and wanted Madrid that’s what I’d do - ask Liverpool to push for a Jan sale so at least I could say I want some money for my boyhood club etc.

28 Dec 2024 20:37:22
Carragher punched way above his talent, gave everything for the club and was a big part of what we achieved. He was an absolute warrior for us and deserves absolute respect for the performances he put in for us.

28 Dec 2024 21:49:10
Carra isn’t a legend. He was a bit better of a player than the ed is making out, but not by much. He was a leader on the pitch and he was vocal and could organise a defence, his tacking was good, his general awareness and passing were average. He was passionate and that always matters to supporters, he always left it out there, all admirable qualities . However he spat at a kid, job done, he’s a dick. Your conduct is what defines you. Ultimately you are what you do. He spat at a kid. Tells you everything about the man he is.

28 Dec 2024 22:50:34
I was at the 86 final.
Ratcliffe was a decent player, that’s why I mentioned him.
If Carra stayed a blue he’d be an absolute legend for them and many of their fans favourite ever player.

Any view to the contrary is nonsense. They’re utter rubbish. They had three decent years in the 80’s. They’re a terrible side full of absolute groks.

Their best player, Linekar, managed a year before legging it. Rooney saw their first team and in his words said “these are rubbish”.

28 Dec 2024 23:14:30
You do all realise that the club really do want Trent to stay, and they will have offered him the maximum that they are willing to pay, and that the decision will always be with the player……and if he wishes to move, then they can’t do anything about it.
Think we all wish he would sign a deal, but if he goes…. then I won’t lose any sleep. We have lost better players in better positions and the club will evolve.
Thanks for the good times and no hard feelings…. (other than I would prefer a transfer fee, but that’s life! )

28 Dec 2024 17:03:49
I'm sure Ed025 has been an angel all his life *wink* : )

{Ed025's Note - my middle name is Gabriel KC.. :)

28 Dec 2024 19:49:55
@ed25. Soz mate I let you have labone Watson etc but come on mate Keane? think the mulled wine kicking in.

{Ed025's Note - i think him and Carra could be twins mate..

28 Dec 2024 19:54:00
Some very valid points on both sides of the Carra discussion.
But sorry 025 old chap, I simply can't buy the "Michael Keane" is better narrative.
As a player Keane isn't fit to lace Carra's boots.

{Ed025's Note - very similar ability wise i would suggest Flash..

28 Dec 2024 22:38:04
Ed025, are you saying that Trent would have signed a new deal a year ago, had one been offered?
If he fancies a move, and has had that on his mind for a while, what difference would an offer have made?
How are these types of negotiations usually carried out? it seems like all 3 of them and the club were sizing up the situation.

{Ed025's Note - im saying that the narrative should have been...either sign or you are on the transfer list Vango, you cant just let a player go without getting a decent fee for him mate, especially a sought after player like Trent..

29 Dec 2024 02:29:45
Carragher will undoubtedly split the fan base when it comes to legendary status. He was good at times when we needed him and equally bad in others. He has longevity on his side but if he was a great player like Gerrard surely more teams would have registered interest to sign him.

I agree he shouldn't have spat at a child but one act shouldn't soil his name forever.

I think ed025 was being a little bit naughty using Myra Hindley as a comparison though. I don't think the crimes match up.

29 Dec 2024 06:43:57
@Ed25, it’s been said on here that Trent made it known a (long) while ago that he wanted to stay. It could be that he didn’t get pushed by the club. I agree with hindsight, that is a mistake by the club to not force the issue. As an aside that would not be an issue with the people at the club now as none of the three vilified now weren’t around 18 - 24 months ago.

Like I’ve said a few times on here, as far back as Sept 23, a lad who works at the club in a minor capacity told me, when I was over in Liverpool that Trent was learning Spanish.

{Ed025's Note - i just think its a shame if he does go WDW, and if he goes for nothing thats even worse mate..

29 Dec 2024 10:25:13
I was there in Istanbul and all those players get their deserved legendary status from me.
Including Jerzy Dudek, Vlad Smicer, Djibril Cisse, Jon Arne Riise, Didi Hamann, Steve Finnan, Harry Kewell

Would any of them get into my top 200 Liverpool players ever? Probably not.
But they will always remain legends for me.

Whatever they do off the pitch matters, but the spitting incident doesn’t take it away from Carra.

29 Dec 2024 09:40:33
Here’s the thing, according to Ed 025 we are consistently bad with regards to negotiations and every summer Mo is leaving.
Yet we have the leagues best team and Mo is the leagues best player.

Re: Trent. No player would’ve signed a new deal knowing Klopp was leaving. They’d want to know the new manager first. Secondly, we have no idea Trent hasn’t (via his agent) just flat out lied.

You can’t make a player sign. You cannot just accept the best run club in the world are incompetent, I know it’s the received logic here but evidence suggests it’s a bit silly and that Ed 025 is very good at winding you up.

{Ed025's Note - i have never said before this instance that LFC are bad at negotiations or that mo would leave...you are lying, if you are happy for your 3 best players to have the ability leave for nothing then who am i to argue?..

29 Dec 2024 10:40:51
Regarding Carragher.
Interview with Rafa.
If you want to buy Gerrard and Carragher it will cost £200m.
£180m for Gerrard
£20M for Carragher
Maybe a little tongue in cheek. But likely not a bad comparison in terms of ability. Not a legend in my eyes. But this site is all about opinions. As someone posted earlier why was Carragher not sounded out my other managers. Or was he.

29 Dec 2024 11:07:36
I am no expert in football finances but can anyone put a figure on the value of the three players out of contract? Fine to say we are Liverpool and we will replace said players. We have done so in the past, no player is bigger than the club. But what will the club need to spend to replace these players and will they be of a similar ability. Then there is the need for strengthening other positions. Mind boggling that we are in this position. I would love all three to sign new contracts but I am not confident.

{Ed001's Note - I think people are forgetting that two of them will need to be replaced soon anyway, whether they stay or go now, the club will have to replace them in, at most, 3 years. And that is best case.}

29 Dec 2024 11:08:00
E025 Carra was a champions league winner something no Everton player has ever done and unlikely too in our lifetime. And I can’t think of any Everton players in premier league time better than him. Lescot and Stones maybe but not a definite. Branthwaite Looks like a player but only time will tell. But ed025 be it banter or bitterness I don’t know but you have a very low rating of lots of our players if it be Bobby carra even trying to make out Digne was better than Robertson in his prime while most of football thought he was the best left back in the world at that time. The spitting incident was a despicable act and for me it shows what a person he is but with social media nowadays you don’t get away with things but I can’t imagine what players where up to years ago without everything getting shared. I thought sky should have sacked him but am not sure if they would have been able to sack him for that. As for club legend a champions league winner and second on appearances so if you like him or not he will go down as a legend and in years to come that spitting incident will be forgotten. Is giggs a club legend and Utd and what he has done is by far worse.

{Ed025's Note - i agree with a lot of that Grino but we all have different standards i suppose mate, i never defended Giggs as he is another scum bag in my eyes and i have stated that in the past, i have no bitterness towards Liverpool though and speak very highly of your last 2 managers and a plethora of your players as im sure you know, i always thought Bobby was over egged but thats just an opinion, i feel character is just as important as ability but thats just me i suppose..

29 Dec 2024 11:58:09
grino75
As long as Ed025 is around the spitting incident will not be forgotten, and neither should it. I cannot think there would be a situation were I would spit at another person. It was disgusting behaviour from Carra. I cannot accept what he did was because he was being taunted, I am sure he gets this all the time. Does he always resort to spitting.

29 Dec 2024 12:35:40
I find it disgusting too but what I would say carra was a better defender than people giving him credit for then thing that let him down from being top draw was his speed. But he would throw his body under a bus when defending. If he was as bad as people are making out he would not have stayed at the club and played that many games. He won plenty of trophies and during that time we had some truly awful players but carra never let us down too many times.

29 Dec 2024 13:34:08
I take your point grino75. But was Carra a good player in an average team. I feel being a scouser maybe he is considered better than he actually was. Not saying he was a poor player but maybe rose tinted spectacles. Would he have a place in todays team, I am not so sure. I think Stevie G would.

29 Dec 2024 15:17:31
Must have been another Ed 025 who constantly referred to Klipperty (oh so funny nickname) and his unethical dealings that has alienated loads of clubs who would never deal with us again OR that every season Salahs agent was pimping him to every club in the world because Salah wanted out.

I mean, that definitely wasn’t you?

Identify theft hey?

{Ed001's Note - that was Ed002, you are just making yourself look foolish now.}

30 Dec 2024 00:13:04
Getting back to Trent:

I’d play him even if he’s off. Get your moneys worth from him, put more mileage in his legs. He’s a highly paid player, it makes no sense to bench him unless he’s out of form.

30 Dec 2024 02:51:44
Everton had a very, very good English defender who played in the England World Cup winning team . He was, on his worst day, a lot, lot better player than Carra and off the field I believe he never actually got around to spitting on children.

I think some people are making a mistake the means being in a team or squad that wins a cup or title means you are automatically a good player, which isn’t true.
