Hi Eds, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is close to signing for PSG, which is disheartening. Do you believe this to be true as I was getting my hopes up. Thank you.

{Ed001's Note - yes he is defo reporting that. I very much doubt our interest was mentioned as anything other than to put pressure on Salah to sign a new deal.}

Well to clam the fans I would say. What a lying piece of paper Ornstein is. FSG got to spot one. Use a credible journalist to clam the fans.

11 Jan 2025 18:09:44
Sounds like FSG style of work.

11 Jan 2025 18:11:24
Thank you for replying and sharing your insight. Why does the club feel the need to pressure him? Salah appears settled and happy in the city, and everyone can sense that he is willing to sign if the right offer is made by the club…
Shouldn’t our focus be to enquire about players we actually need and intend to sign, as opposed to all this “smokescreen” stuff. I was hoping we’d learn from our flip flopping during the summer window.

11 Jan 2025 18:36:31
Shame as Kvaratskhelia would have been my 1st choice to sign . Bit of a side step going to psg rather than testing himself . Things happen in football fast so ??but i seriously thought if he was available we should be right at front of the queue as the lad has the potential to be elite level player .

11 Jan 2025 19:02:04
I think ed01 is absolutely spot on in his take here. It doesn't really make sense that we will bid for a Lw when we have Diaz and gakpo balling their arse out and also when we really need defenders, midfielders. that doesn't sound like a smart investment, hence our guys will never do that. Now pressuring mo to sign a contract? That they'll do. Absolutely.

11 Jan 2025 19:07:58
Seems like Arne's only weakness is, he's a Yes man?

11 Jan 2025 19:21:06
He’s a good player but why would we want to sign another LW? Especially when Gakpo and Diaz both have far better stats. I can think of 4 or 5 positions that need looking at before we go there.

11 Jan 2025 19:39:11
I seriously don’t understand the grief journalists are given. Ornstein is a good writer, and generally informative. His article simply said that we were monitoring the situation, and at no single point did it suggest an offer was imminent. The opposite of click bait - which is why I like The Athletic.

Re the anti-FSG stuff that comes out during every transfer window - surely everyone by now realises that clubs have to spend within their means, or they risk being docked points? No owner of our club can simply dig into their own pockets, transfers have to be generated by club income, not owner income.

The way to judge ownership these days is how they expand the club’s commercial income (and the larger stadium surely helps), and their acumen in the transfer market.

Nobody’s perfect, but apart from Keita and poor Darwin (nb both Klopp picks) our signings over the past 10 years have been superb.

11 Jan 2025 19:43:10
I don't think for a minute Slot is a YES man 007. I think he's a coach. He hasn't earned the power Klopp eventually got which led to Edwards, Ward and Co leaving. He will almost certainly have a say incoming and outgoings. Maybe just not the final word. As for Dickie Hughes the jury is out. I don't think he could finish his dinner. He seems completely out of his depth so far.

11 Jan 2025 19:58:46
All Ornstein said is we were monitoring the situation, which I’m sure we’re are. I would sincerely hope that those at the club responsible for transfers are monitoring the situations for a whole bunch of players. As Ed01 suggests the prompting of Ornstein by the club to mention this particular player may well be a message to Mo’s agent but at most it’s probably just a bargaining tactic for the ongoing negotiations.

As I said the other day I don’t think our actual interest is buying a forward in this window. I think we would be looking to reinforce the defence and midfield if we are going to try and bring players in.

11 Jan 2025 20:36:07
I hardly think our priority is yet another right footed LW. Unless Díaz or Gakpo are going imminently.

11 Jan 2025 20:39:06
We’ve been looking to bring in a midfielder and defender for 18 months. Even your waking up to this fact WDW.

11 Jan 2025 20:46:52
It's ok Hughes will whip up an Arthur style signing . Anybody know what he's actually done since he got the job? Has he even started yet?

11 Jan 2025 20:55:29
Not a position of need.

Great player but didn't see where he really fitted in.

Hughes needs to get the finger out on other positions that we do need.

11 Jan 2025 20:43:23
Hello jimble2005, only time will confirm either way, if he's a coach as you say, why is he LFCs Manager? if you say he has to coach the players someone else prefers then he is a YES man, if he insists on choosing his own preferred players then he's a NO man. to compete with his peers he has to have the same or more transfer funds do you not agree, instead of like Jurgen having to choose his second or third choice and sell to buy, talking of which whatever happened to FSG/ John Henry's Moneyball, "they think it's ball over"!

Another load of Yankee gimmicks. Very, Very surprised "Spirit of Shankly" have not put their heads above the parapet.

11 Jan 2025 21:47:48
@007 It’s a very common setup. Slot is the coach. He can give his opinion and potential signings and will provide his input into the discussions to identify targets but he does not have the final say or get involved in the process. It’s absolutely nothing to do with him being a yes man or a no man - it’s just his job.

11 Jan 2025 21:51:42
@007, not the ed, ill write it out to you nice and slowly, Slot is not our manager. Now I hope I don’t make things too complicated for you but FSG don’t run the club on a day to day basis and Hughes doesn’t deal with contracts. If you have any more confusion about the roles at Liverpool fc please contact your therapist.

11 Jan 2025 22:02:05
Hello jimblelfc2005, You have said yourself in your post above that Arne does not have the final word on transfers, that means he is coaching players that someone else (hughes) prefers that is a YES man.

If he coaches his own signings then he is his "own man" i. e. free, independent and not being controlled by others like Klopp was not as you stated above.

In accepting the LFC manager's job he said "YES" to all the terms and conditions in the FSG contract that was on the table in front of him, perhaps that is why Jurgen left because he rejected the contract that Arne accepted, we have to wait for his reasons on going, or he may take it to grave with him? as at the moment it's all conjecture.

11 Jan 2025 22:29:24
Nice and slowly! Arne Slot won the Barclays Manager of the Month award for November 2024.

11 Jan 2025 22:53:05
Should the club be happy with that trophy and just wing it for the rest of the season and hope nobody gets injured or actually get useless Hughes to do his job and get the players we need in to help for a title push. I've a feeling we won't sign anyone and fall away in the league now the pressure is on.

11 Jan 2025 22:44:31
@007 I’m sorry, I can’t type more slowly.

11 Jan 2025 23:06:15
Not sure how not signing a player we were never actually made an offer for and never likely to sign is disheartening, in my mind it was never happening and just a complete load of nonsense. If anything I’d hope that Ornstein and Joyce decide not to punt out stories based on briefings they’ve had from Hughes or Edwards for the sake of their journalistic integrity.

11 Jan 2025 23:31:46
Richard Hughes might be one of the greatest window shopper ever. Looking at every players available without any intention of buying them. We will keep monitoring the market forever and do nothing about it.

12 Jan 2025 00:13:28
Seriously getting fed up with so called supporters having a go at Hughes and FSG and the doom and gloomers.

Let me remind you we bought in the summer Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa

We tried to sign Martin Zubimendi who is a serious talent only for the player to reject us but it showed serious intent on improving the squad.

We also hired in the summer an amazing head coach in Slot which so far has proved all doubters wrong.

We have an amazing attack, blessed with goal keepers, a midfield as strong as anyone else and it is only the back line that requires some attention and thank the lord VVD has not picked up an injury.

We sold really well in the summer to balance the books and I really do believe we have enough dry powder to buy in this window should the right target become available.

We also have an academy that is producing talent as well which if not makes the first team will provide future funds to dip into the transfer market.

We are also 6 points ahead of our main concern, Arsenal, with a game in hand but Arsenal have yet to really put any real pressure on us and if they go through this transfer window without buying a goal scoring striker (good luck with trying to achieve that during this window) then I do not see that changing.

If we can beat Forest that will produce a 9 point gap with a game in hand so that could end that challenge and Chelsea are already 10 points behind and remember we have a game in hand.

If you cannot be happy with the above I seriously worry about you as it seems nothing will make you happy.

12 Jan 2025 00:24:55
Hello baker, "Kudos" to you, we all want the same ending, success however it is achieved. Google El Hadji Malick Diouf he's ye new 20 year old left back, an absolute beast, coach Arne-Field will polish him up, to go with our new left winger Rio n-"GOD"-omha.

12 Jan 2025 03:36:39
As a practicing professional psychologist I can say some people in this thread need help.

12 Jan 2025 04:39:25
All clubs monitor and take a look at players that they're never going to sign. Not sure why that is used as a stick to best Hughes and Co. I am not defending Hughes and Ward since I also think they are out of their depth with us but using narratives that we come up with and criticising them for it is a bit much.

12 Jan 2025 05:47:53
Was about to say precisely the same, Nevada, from all the adoration for Musk to these relentless paranoiac rants (unsurprisingly from the same terminally online people) the vibe on this page has shifted lately.

12 Jan 2025 05:53:28
Also is it just me but Kvaratskhelia hasn't signed for psg yet? laugh at me all you want but if the likes of ornstein, joyce and lynch all say that we are going to give it a go if he is available and if we have an idea of how much it would cost, then maybe it isn't over yet? The same thing happened with lucho and cody after all. And if it doesn't happen, does it really matter? it's not like this was a months long transfer saga that we lost out on.

Waiting to see what happens, rather than sprinting to your keyboard to bash hughes, henry or whoever else has become the antichrist in your eyes doesn't seem smart or healthy.

12 Jan 2025 07:13:58
@Nevada, I bet every single person who read your post thought “I don’t need help” ?.

12 Jan 2025 07:51:50
@Patrikberger, spot on! The hunt for Kvaratskhelia! To all who keep sayinh why we sign LW. C'mon! Salah was signed as a LW, see what position is he playing now?

Kvaratskhelia is same, even though left footed, he can play on either wings. You guys need to catch up wih modern football and tactics.

{Ed025's Note - we are all playing catch up with you Lee and will try and do better in the future...thanks for the advice mate..

12 Jan 2025 08:11:48
WDW: all 3 of us need help here. Me, myself and I.

12 Jan 2025 09:02:57
Ed25, Thank you, You flattered me, I am really just still learning but you are definitely not far behind. I really appreciate your humility though, and just like me, you have Liverpool DNA.

{Ed025's Note - you flatter me Lee, i think im miles behind you mate..

12 Jan 2025 09:05:21
@Nevada, I already have a therapist, but if you’re offering I’m sure I could use another one.

12 Jan 2025 09:22:52
I dunno why people thought we were going to sign him, when was the last time a player from Napoli was legitimately "Available"? De Laurentiis is the type to run contracts down out of spite if he's not being paid over the odds, always has been.

12 Jan 2025 10:14:05
That’s 5 of us then @StE, my id and ego are here but my alter ego is currently starring in a show on Broadway.

12 Jan 2025 11:55:10
King Carlos we wasted the summer on a player who was never going to sign for liverpool or anybody else for that matter and that is Hughes fault.

12 Jan 2025 12:16:07
Slot a yes man? Heard it all now ???.

12 Jan 2025 15:14:56
@KingCarlos, but FSG haven't bought a £60m player?

12 Jan 2025 20:21:48
Hello baker, "Kudos" to you, we all want the same ending, success however it is achieved. Google El Hadji Malick Diouf he's ye new 20 year old left back, an absolute beast, coach Arne-Field will polish him up, to go with our new left winger Rio n-"GOD"-omha.

- I'd be wary of buying anyone with 'El', 'Hadji' and 'Diouf' in his name.
