Ed's or anyone else, have you seen the links to Miguel Guitierrez of Girona? Looks a quality player but with Girona being part of the City group surely this would be a complete non-starter? I can't see them selling to us and/ or if he was that good would City not take him for themselves?

Agree1 Disagree0

Good going forward and poor at the back. Typical modern day full back. City are after Cambiaso. They don’t need him.

05 Feb 2025 15:03:47
City group aren’t going to sell him to us. There’s really no point sending scouts to watch players at clubs owned by premier league rivals, or who fall under the same ownership group. And that’s without mentioning that Real Madrid have retained 50% of his ownership rights and sell on fee. I’d hope that even Hughes isn’t that dim to waste any time or efforts on this player.

I do not believe it!

05 Feb 2025 18:24:15
I did forget that PL rivals don't sell player to each other.

05 Feb 2025 20:40:55
Why would city group sell a player who is evidently performing well at a high level to a direct rival club who they have a problematic relationship with, Rigsby. Or are you forgetting that incident where one of our current employees hacked into the City scouting database, which we had to pay rather a lot of hush money to them in order to stop them reporting us to the FA for. Which we would have got a kicking for btw.

05 Feb 2025 22:48:19
The City group might sell him to us because he's a poor defender, as you said.
Seriously, I don't know whether the City group would or wouldn't sell him to a rival PL team. I didn't mention him and I know nothing about him.
My point was about PL teams signing players from other PL teams. It does happen.
Are you saying it doesn't, Vik?

06 Feb 2025 06:22:56
@Victor if they don’t like us that much why didn’t 5hey just report us? I suppose your answer is because we gave them money? Do you go have any actual proof of that as it seems to me City requesting a bribe and us paying it would get both clubs into even more trouble.

06 Feb 2025 07:12:59
Rigsby you’re being pedantic for no reason. VV is spot on and his logic is sound. You know quite well that rival clubs 99% of the time don’t sell players to one another. The recent anomalies generally include Chelsea who are willing to pay in excess to get players through the door and the selling club happy to get rid. We can’t buy a piece of toast, rarely get drawn into what a perceived difficult transfers and “transfer wars”.

Frode/ Victor, I'm not sure that your undestandings are accurate. I can think of 25+ examples off the top of my head just in the last 20 years of players being moved between big 6 rivals for a fee or on loan.

Liverpool let Sterling, Benayoun, Torres and Meireles go to big 6 rivals.

Chelsea let Cech, Benayoun, Jorginho, Kovacic, Luiz, Sturridge, Werner, Mount and Havertz go to big 6 rivals.

Arsenal let Cole, Van Persie, Toure, Clichy, Adebayor, Giroud, Nasri and Oxlade-Chamberlain go to big 6 rivals.

Man City let Zinchenko, Sterling and Jesus go to big 6 rivals.

Spurs let Walker, Keane, Berbatov and Carrick go to big 6 rivals.

Man United let Sancho go to a big 6 rival.

Again, this is just off the top of my head and I can think of it happening pretty much every year for about 20 years.

Kippers, I see MK has posted a very good reply and he remembers far more transfers than I do ?.
I get yours and Vik's points but there are lots of examples and reasons why a PL club would sell to a rival club.
Don't underestimate the business side of it and how much more power players have these days.

Interesting stuff.

What was the best and worst inter-rival move over the last 25 years?

06 Feb 2025 13:29:01
Worst so far - its still early - Mount to United from Chelsea

We have not done well at all from top 6 incomings

Best - and I hate to admit to any of these

Van Persie to United from Arsenal - won Ferguson his league to go two ahead of us

Equal second: Walker Spurs to City (for longevity)
Sterling from us to City - still don't forget this one (for two seasons)

06 Feb 2025 14:15:59
Worst is probably Man Utd selling Wan Bissaka to West Ham. Big mistake selling to a relegation rival.

06 Feb 2025 15:46:48
Us selling Torres to Chelsea was a bad buy for them.
£50m and that was a long time ago and he was injured when we sold him.
We also flogged them Raul Meireles.

Van Persie to United is a great shout for a good buy ?.
I'd have to mention Rio Ferdinand to United, too. Leeds were a top side at the time and that has just jogged my memory to think of Eric Cantona.
What a player he was and they got him for peanuts.

06 Feb 2025 16:53:01
I can't believe you are all even debating this.

The best transfer between rival clubs was clearly the free transfer of James Milner from City to Liverpool!

06 Feb 2025 17:43:24
Great shout on Milly, Shipley.

Agree on Van Persie (good) and Torres (bad) shouts too.

Ashley Cole, as unlikable as he was, was a hell of a signing by Chelsea.

Sheringham and Berbatov were also pretty good signings by United too.

06 Feb 2025 19:52:22
Michael Carrick too i would say!

07 Feb 2025 07:36:03
Surely Milner can't be included because he was out of contract at City. And it's the same for other free transfers.
City or whoever couldn't stop him joining a rival club because he was no longer contracted to them.
Sol Campbell would have got a mention otherwise. Spurs to Arsenal is some move.

08 Feb 2025 21:39:08
City gave us Bellamy.
