Lots of noise about our interest in Isak Ed001, I know it's very early but would you think a deal for him is possible? It's muted they have interest in Quansah also.
{Ed001's Note - possible? Yes, they are tight on the financial regs, but he is one they really don't want to lose.}
27 Mar 2025 08:31:07
If he wants to leave though, and we have the funds etc then guess not much they can do at the end of the day.
{Ed001's Note - yes. If he wants to join us, it would make a huge difference.}
27 Mar 2025 09:46:33
Do you think with the amount of money possibly involve if its go through, that would put us in a bit of financial constraints Ed? We do have a lot of positions needed strengthening next summer.
Now its looking likely Trent will leave, that's another position to look at. That not counting if both Salah and Van Dijk signing new contracts or not.
{Ed001's Note - I have to say I would be very surprised if we spent that much, but it would probably depend on what sales we made. I would expect Nunez to go and need replacing.}
27 Mar 2025 10:04:11
If only had 1r2 players to buy this summer I could see us going for isak but I can't see us spending that amount with us needing at least 4 players, probably more, this summer.
27 Mar 2025 10:31:03
Can’t see it, we are linked with everyone all the time not going to break habit of a lifetime. Just noise.
27 Mar 2025 10:27:21
Ed 01, realistically speaking club will not want to change whole forward line in a window so do you think that jota will stay as backup for nunez replacement?
And if you have time then what about Diaz? Is he staying or club looking to move him on?
{Ed001's Note - I expect Jota to stay, simply because no one is going to pay a decent fee for a player who picks up so many injuries.
Diaz was the one flirting with Barca, but that is not likely to happen.}
27 Mar 2025 10:39:37
For a team that is sitting top of the PL, the faith that some of the fans have in the club is genuinely touching.
The right player at the right price.
27 Mar 2025 10:48:34
I'm sure I'll get sneered at, but if Isak wants to come to us and we want him to come, I'm fairly sure we'll make it happen.
I don't think a £100m+ price tag will put us off.
We paid £65m for a GK and £75m for a centre back, and that was a few years ago before transfer fees increased again.
I could see us recouping a chunk of any fee from Nunez, who the Saudi's apparently bid £75m for in Jan. So you could be looking at Nunez + £50-£60m for Isak.
A bit like Carroll + £15m for Torres! Let's hope, if we do get him, this Toon striker does better for us than the last one!
27 Mar 2025 10:59:48
I understand why Ed002 would always say that "we don't talk about finances here" but I genuinely don't understand why/ how we are so strapped for cash with all of the success on the pitch since Klopp and the reports of success off of the pitch (sponsorships, kit deals/ sales, etc) . Can anyone bullet point or do a simple summary of how we are so tight on the financial regs? Is it as simple as bad contracts and agent fees?
27 Mar 2025 11:16:57
The accounts are publicly available Stone and it’s easy to see how much we spend vs how much comes back in. When I last looked nobody was taking out money like the Glazers do at United so it simply boils down to the fact the club is trying not to pile up masses of debt to buy players I don’t see this as a bad thing, unfortunately there is no real level playing field because the rules around finances seem to be easy to ignore (see City and Chelsea for example) .
27 Mar 2025 11:26:18
Stone - wages including non-playing staff, increased costs hosting in bigger stadium, full payout to Klopp and co, reduced income due to no CL, bonuses for qualifying for this years CL were recorded in 23-24 results.
Overall we’re sound tho. Which is why it’s good we are run the way we are.
27 Mar 2025 11:47:08
Interesting you expect jota to stay, appreciate his value at the moment isn’t great but sounds as though Slot isn’t impressed.
27 Mar 2025 11:49:16
I think we are well within the financial regs stone but that doesn't mean that we have hundreds of millions in the bank to spend on new players.
27 Mar 2025 12:31:52
Hope all is well ed001
Do you reckon isak might be open to a move to us?
Crystal ball stuff I suppose…
Cheers
Drogie.
{Ed001's Note - supposedly he is a Liverpool fan hence the rumours.}
27 Mar 2025 12:57:26
Exactly Shipley, the club isn’t skint by any stretch but the owners - rightly in my opinion - don’t want to pile debt on the club that relates to buying players. Adding debt to improve the stadium is fine as it adds to the value of the club but adding debt for players who could be failures (e. g. Nunez) isn’t good business.
Sadly, us trying to play by the rules will hold us back when we have teams around us who can seemingly magic funds out of thin air.
27 Mar 2025 13:19:01
Am I the only one who doesn’t fancy Isak at Liverpool?
{Ed025's Note - yes..
27 Mar 2025 13:23:20
The faith that some of the fans have in the club is based on things like that time we tried to replace Suarez with Balotelli (apparently he was the right player at the right price back then. ), or Benteke. Or more recently when we sold Lovren before the 20/ 21 season and didn’t bother bringing in another centre back then when in the middle of a defensive crisis left it until the end of the January transfer window to actually bring anyone in (whicg was a balls up too, as neither Kabak or Davies were remotely good enough), then there was letting our midfield run itself into the ground resulting in a year out of the champions league and an expensive summer after that, leading us nicely into the current debacle of contract renewals for three senior players, so maybe WDW you should consider that some fans have reasonably placed misgivings over the ability and competency to get it right, or you can just sit there and be condescending in your ivory tower. I don’t care either way.
27 Mar 2025 13:40:38
Thank you all for the information. Much appreciated.
27 Mar 2025 13:46:57
Ah, this thread was seemingly going OK and quite sensible…. but then the overlord of doom turns up. How dare anyone offer a slightly different opinion than VV.
27 Mar 2025 14:09:02
You always need a difference in opinion though Johnny, as the truth often lies somewhere inbetween.
What VV has stated actually happened, he isn’t making it up to suit his argument. However, it really is doomsday stuff and I would hope the club has learnt from their previous mistakes.
27 Mar 2025 14:42:52
Got to chuckle at Vitor's comical post! Seems to ignore the points I made about breaking the world record for a GK and a defender in amongst all the doom and gloom!
I remember there being almost universal gloating that we got Keita too (albeit that one did have a sour end! )
But hey, let's bring up Balotelli when we have won every single competition since then!
27 Mar 2025 16:17:59
Agreed Zed. And StEttieneAmen, we know those bad things happened but we never get thoughts on the good things that happen from VV it’s always a whining noise, like tinnitus in written form.
27 Mar 2025 17:20:58
Clear out jota and nunez. Isak and Cunha could be us sorted upfront till we need replace salah. Take 25 to 30m for jota, he's had his time here. Injuries have done him for me. Nunez has to go. unfortunately.
27 Mar 2025 20:06:56
That Keita one still burns me. I was so hyped when he joined - i really thought he was going to be the difference maker in our midfield. And then to think what we couldve done with that money instead. Nunez has weaknesses but compared to Keita.
27 Mar 2025 22:56:59
VV is spot on in nearly every post in fact he should work at the club.
28 Mar 2025 11:36:07
Seems to me that Ed001 is right and that it will take a couple of summers to sort out this mess. I'd love to see Isak here but I'm not sure I'd blow my load on one player if it meant we didn't strengthen the back line as well. Regardless, there will probably be a lot of sales to help fund purchases. I can see a scenario where one or both VVD and Salah resign for 2-3 years.
