Trent Alexander-Arnold turned down 3 lucrative contract offers from Liverpool FC which would have him earning over £15m per year. His deal with Real Madrid is significantly less, agreed on their terms only which Trent did not hesitate to question, nor his agent.

Local lad, my Arsenal!

Up to him what he does whether local or not.

29 Mar 2025 08:37:28
Based on a rumour.
Doesn't alter the fact that he's still a local lad though.

29 Mar 2025 08:46:48
Wow do you believe in Father Christmas as well ?

29 Mar 2025 08:47:25
That sounds straight out of a Madrid tabloid.

29 Mar 2025 09:01:53
Ward should have made him a 4th offer. Incompetent that man.

29 Mar 2025 09:06:50
Where did you read this Empuran? I tried looking for stories of this online but can't find any.

29 Mar 2025 09:09:00
He will be getting a huge signing in fee at Madrid that will more than make up the shortfall I would expect.

29 Mar 2025 09:13:39
You do realise it's only 20% tax over there. Real giving him 220kpw is the same as us offering 320kpw. Didn't matter what we offered his mind was made up.

29 Mar 2025 09:39:12
Perhaps his decision had nothing to do with money, and the fictitious amounts being thrown about are pointless.

29 Mar 2025 09:48:38
Interesting to hear where Ed got his info that Trent wanted to stay when all recent stories that have come out have implied his mind has been made up for at least a year.

{Ed001's Note - that info, as I have said, is from before Klopp quit. At the time they were going to offer him a deal and then never bothered.}

Refreshing that money isn’t the main motivator for once
Class.

29 Mar 2025 10:26:10
Exactly Rushies ‘tache. My thinking is that he was never going to renew anyway but you’ve got to love all the ‘fans’ blaming the club somehow.

29 Mar 2025 10:50:10
Don't know where you get your information about Spanish income tax. Their higher rate is 47% compared to 45% in UK and he would reach that after first week's salary.

29 Mar 2025 11:40:42
I’d heard the first contract wasn’t offered until January, but looking at an article in the Atlantic by David Ornstein the first contract offer was made around the beginning of the second week of December 2024, which is still pretty rubbish going. And that was for all three. Dress that up anyway you want but it’s incompetent and rolled a red carpet out for Madrid by leaving it so late.

29 Mar 2025 11:51:41
Kemlyncat, the Spanish tax system works differently for “non residents”, the top rate for someone non resident is 24% as Arnold would be a non resident and would pay a lot less than he would here.

29 Mar 2025 13:28:57
Why would he stay at LFC when Madrid come calling get a grip. The owners have shown their lack of ambition in allowing this embarrassing situation escalate like it has.
Don’t blame him if I’m honest.

29 Mar 2025 14:01:27
I think you're right Viktor. I think it became known as "The Beckham Tax"

29 Mar 2025 15:56:54
Endo3, what about Father Christmas? He comes to my house every year and brings me something.

29 Mar 2025 17:15:34
Clueless so many here about finances, if he spends more than half the year in Spain he will be a resident. Trent will pay the same high earner tax rate as all others in Spain unless he plans to live in another country while playing and training with Madrid. Hard to read pure nonsense all the time from some people.

30 Mar 2025 14:22:46
Is the tax, PIT then I believe it's called for residents not something as follows:
- 19% on the 1st €6000
- 21% for the €6000 - €50,000
- 23% for the €50,000 - €200,000
- 27% for €200,000 - €300,000

For non-residents (NPIT) I think the general rate of tax is 24% - either way much more favourable than here

Honestly though, I doubt he's going purely for money,
1. Liverpool have, by all accounts, messed this up. A contract should have been offered a season or two ago - then we are simply not sure what has happened behind the scenes this last season
2. He has won pretty much everything at the club, may simply wish to play his trade somewhere else

His choice, hasn't drowned tools nor had a bad attitude this season - I would still love him to stay, but if he wants to go then good luck to the lad.

Another wildly confused poster who refuses to use google or simple logic, how can you begin to imagine that someone living and working year round in Spain could be classed as a non resident? But following the constant flawed logic here, if you believe he will qualify for non resident status in Spain where do you propose he will reside?
