See sly sports saying Salah talks over a new contract are progressing well fingers crossed we tie him and Virg down for a couple of more years hopefully that will convince Konate to sign a new deal and that will give us 4 windows to get their eventual replacements in for the long term future.

Honestly think Van Dijk in particular could play in this league for the next 4 or 5 years, especially with better players alongside him.

09 Apr 2025 18:41:20
Given his form, Salah prob agreed his new contract about 5 games ago but as he’s disappeared off the face of a football pitch and not getting interviewed we haven’t heard the latest.

09 Apr 2025 18:51:46
They ve both been a little off it last 2 games but make no mistake, these guys a world class. Thank Fowler it looks like we're keeping these absolute superstars.

Few additions and hopefully we'll be right in the mix next year again for all the big ones.

An awful lot of hot air wasted over them not signing and FSG being misers.
I remember one poster here said something like 'Ive heard that Mo and VVD have been told, win something and let's talk at the end of the season' That person was one of the few actual ITKS here other than the eds.

Good old Julian Ward.

09 Apr 2025 19:54:55
Trent going is a massive blow if it happens. No coincidence that since he has been injured Mo and the team performance has dropped off
Up the pool.

Desperation to stop a fan revolt imo. Should let Salah go now unless he’s massively reducing wages. Mark this post - we will see a bigger than usual drop off next season with it being an afcon year. We really are just pushing the problem down the road a year while using a massive part of our wage budget.

Would agree if money was no option but guarantee club will use this as a reason to hold back on strengthening elsewhere.

09 Apr 2025 21:40:08
We also can't move on a player that has been involved in 52 goals this season and still has time to get more.
Granted it's big money wages, but if want the silverware that's what it takes in this day and age, we would be crazy to move him on in this kind of form.

Brummyred if salah signs 2 year contract as has been rumoured and his form does drop off dramatically next season, why not sell him next summer and get a fee? He bound to still be worth 30-40m next summer to a Saudi club, his wages for a year at lfc will be around £15m.

09 Apr 2025 22:02:10
I agree with brummyred there will inevitably be a drop off next year from Salah. And then he'll go to afcon for two months and do his usual 1 month of insanely bad form when he returns so he'll essentially not be playing for a good 10-15 games.

This summer should have been the club pulling the plaster off and sorting everything out in one window. Not a fan of extending the pain over two seasons or more.

09 Apr 2025 22:06:05
Brummyred, how do you suggest the fans would've revolted? I guarantee that no matter what happens, there will be 60,000 supporters at our first home game next season. And I'm as certain as certain can be we will strengthen in the summer. No one can predict how next season goes, but if it goes as well as this season I'll be happy.

I think VVD has looked his age the last couple of weeks. Part of that is Slots determination to use the same small pool of players in all matches. I am thrilled that the Premiership is almost wrapped up, for me, it is the ultimate prize. But, with a little bit more trust placed in squad players over the last couple of weeks, I feel that LFC would have been playing Villa tonight. The match against Fulham is the first time I have thought, maybe Virg is declining a little bit more rapidly than I thought. Of course LFC should hang on to him, but they need to sign a ready made replacement this summer to keep the pressure on him.

09 Apr 2025 22:51:49
Why do wages bother some of you? Leave them out of conversations if a player is worth keeping/ buying well good luck to them wages should be private all this he’s not worth x per week is daft. As for mo and virg being of an age that’s on the club. We have needed back up for both of them for years if we would of acted like a English football club and built on success investing in players each year instead of acting like an American franchise and realising the value of the squad drawing every last ounce of there legs we wouldn’t be here again.

Salah at 32 had a better season than Salah aged 31.

Perhaps Father Time didn’t get the he’ll drop off as he gets older script.

{Ed025's Note - he had a great season JK but as we all know time and tide wait for no one, things can change very quickly in football mate and Mo has been incredibly lucky with injuries, im not saying dont keep him because he is still a great player and he really looks after himself, i just dont think you should put all your eggs in one basket and expect him to carry you next season like he has this especially with AFCON coming up..you still need to invest in the squad imo..

10 Apr 2025 08:27:27
If they sort out his replacement it’s not really an issue in my books. But we have been neglecting that for years.

10 Apr 2025 09:06:37
Plenty of research shows that players have their best seasons when trying to negotiate a transfer away or a new contract. Their worst seasons (on average) are the ones straight after singing.

Maybe salah was only playing so well because it was negotiation time?

I'm sure he's still going to a be an excellent player next year but he Def won't be repeating this season, though he might repeat the end of it.

10 Apr 2025 09:47:35
What song is Salah singing?

10 Apr 2025 10:05:02
Anybody else think of the old Carry On comedies ? ‘The fans are revolting’, ‘they certainly are’.

10 Apr 2025 10:18:49
A month ago in paris"what a performance and great leadership from Virg". after Sunday its"virg is declining more rapidly than i thought". Even father time is moving quick on that one. Maybe it has something to do with a near 34 year old playing just about every minute of every game for club and country since August and him running out of gas a bit towards the end of the season. Even the great Van Dijk will have to be rotated more next season if we want them in top shape for the business end of the season, same goes for Salah.

10 Apr 2025 10:29:36
It's my opinion that next season will be the last season that Mo and VVD will be regular starters, that could therefore mean that next season is their last. The issue with looking to find replacements this summer to enable them to "bed in" is that next summer is a World Cup. I find it hard to think that players will sign, knowing that they will only play a handful of games, waiting for Virg and Mo to step aside. I've said on here, many times, that it was my belief that those 2 would sign new deals. I've also always thought that next summer will be massive, when we will actually have to replace them. I may be completely wrong with this view, as I often am.

10 Apr 2025 11:00:32
Rome i think the beauty of that mate is VVD and Salah have the full summer break. Mo has already notified the Egyptian FA apparently.

Our players have a good summer break whilst the likes of City and Chelsea's are off to this new World Club Cup.
